1) EG30
2) EG31
3) EK02
4) EL13
G=July
K=November

The EG30 is what came stock
The EG31 is what was sent to sprint techs
The EK02 is what sprint just pushed out as OTA update
The EL13 is a leak with CIQ removed, Samsung authentic, just not sprint official (yet).
Pretty sure that's correct. Someone correct me if I'm off.

Hey man, been quite busy lately. I've got a bit of time today ill put into the wiki for us. Adding themes is on the list, as well as rounding up some 404d downloads and reposting them. Thanks to the others that have contributed!

you can flash the el29 modem, that is the newest. Different modems sometimes work different for different areas/phones. I always just run the newest, but you can play around with them and find your favorite

Almost caught up with everything new popping up. If you've got something out there that you don't see on the wiki and you'd like to see it up, I either just haven't had time or I've missed it. So post it here and I'll make sure to add it
I've actually subscribed to this thread now, so I'll be able to catch posts quicker.
Ahhhhhhh! looks like you already started what I had started. I was talking to sfhub because the modem database was a mess and of course out of date.
I will use what you have already done to finish what I was doing. I was going to ask you about the thread links and you already removed them. While I wasn't going to go that far I was about to say no offense to qbking77 (I gave him a mirror to help with this) but the thread is also a mess with broken links. Wasn't sure if you wanted to continue pointing to the same thread for everything when the source for the modems are all available from sfhub with maybe a couple exceptions.
Links are still broken for some of the top posts. sfhub has 2 mirrors and cwm and odin files for ALL of the modems except EG12 and EG31. So it was my intention to set it up to have 2 mirrors on each one, 2 lines for each (one cwm one odin) rather than having a line for every mirror like it was for a couple. Unfortunately I wont be able to replace the one one click modem that id10t made since his upload is dead and the EG12 that still exists in someones drop box appears to not be correct so ill leave that link alone for the moment.
Seeing as how you went good and clean with one line for each modem, I could do the same still with the mirrors but it changes things a little. Starting with your table now. I will be around to help with this from now on.
Alright I merged what I was doing with the recent table change. I feel like the links are too close together I did what I could. I too felt having lines for each mirror and each format were not going to work for the amount of modems we have now. But I almost feel like format lines might have "almost" looked cleaner.
Hope you don't mind the addition. I was just figuring (and based on how the table was a couple days ago) since we had a consistent mirror setup for all the modems and one server being able to go down at any given time it was a good idea.

I would agree it was getting a bit messy so I tried to clean it up. I love where you took it though, much better. Thanks for contributing, as that's what it is, coming together to make it better for everyone. I appreciate, as well as I'm sure others do as well, the time you spent on that. Thanks.

sorry for bumping this topic. im looking for a good modem to work with my aokp milestone 6 rom.

Hello, everyone!
I'm getting my ET4G tomorrow. I have been reading up so I can be familiar with the device.
I've had an Epic 4g and I loved the development for it. Since then I have had Evo 4g, Evo 3D, and the photon. The development in all of them weren't as fluid as my good ol' Samsung.
So I'm back for round two with the ET.
I am trying to get familiar with everything, so if you could point me towards important/interesting threads, that would be great.
I mostly want to know what is going on with ICS
There are so many ICS roms that I'm lost (Photon only has 1 CM9 port)
Is there anywhere that I can read the difference between the leaks and the cm9 port, which are best, the bugs.
So yeah, looking forward to some good reading suggestions, I will keep browsing.
Just wanted to say hi, I recognize you from some of the many xda communities I have been apart of. Looking forward to some of the roms from the developers I knew and loved lol.
Thank you for reading, and post or send me a PM if you'd like.
Fortunately for you everything works like it did on the Epic with Odin, etc. If you choose to flash any of the ICS leak ROMs please read up because the recovery isn't 100% yet and you can brick if you don't take the safe route. Just remember that Odin is your best friend like it was on the Epic but even that can't rescue you if you get the data partition error from ICS recoveries. Feel free to PM me with any questions you have

I used to have that issue on my epic. But it was always fixable (usually it was because I used the samsung usb) until one day when it just went black and never came back lol
MIJJz's "the goodness" rom is amazing. Just be careful of the recovery issue using ICS rom's. I had to download mobile odin today just to be safe.

One big difference I have noticed is that modems are flashable from recovery. Once you are up and running on ICS you can easily switch between modems and kernels. The dicey part is going from ICS back to GB or going from one ICS ROM to another. The only guaranteed safe route is to Odin or sfhub one click back to Gingerbread and go from there. All of the Gingerbread ROMs are totally dialed in. You may have more of an adventure finding the right ICS ROM right now because everything is so new

Welcome to a great phone, and a smallish, but quickly growing, tightknit community here! We have a set of Great devs, and (mostly) mature, helpful members, and all very excited about where things are headed for this device.
You've already been answered by one of our most active members, super helpful guy, very knowledgeable.
I would get to know a few threads here, since you are likely somewhat familiar with ODIN, and obviously flashing concepts in general.
If you are feeling the ICS bug, read up on recoveries, and JC mentioned, it can be a dicey risk, if done improperly, you can get a permhardbirck: How Not To Brick Your E4GT
Where to keep up on ICS leaks, Samgung ICS testing, etc: ICS for Epic Touch!!! Now on FC24. Sadly, there is no actual "change log", but if you took the time to read that whole mess, you'll get it. And if you search throught the dev sect, you see all the leaks, repackaged by Calk and sfhub, and if you read them through, you can get an idea of current bugs/issues. Although, you'll quickly see that while some bugs seem to be consistent for all, YMMV.
I would highly recommend that you think about upgrading your modem, regardless of what you do with ROM flashing. The LoS issue that was a problem with this phone on release has been fixed, but the newer modems have Great improvements with GPS/aGPS. (for ... most people? for many it's night and day...)
Further, check out qbkings videos, everything you need to know, about everything. ;-)
Good luck!.
Make sfhub and qbking77 ur best friend lol
What he said. Follow qbking77's YouTube how-to videos and you're pretty much guaranteed to never brick your device (I'm certain he's done a review/how-to-install for most, if not all ROMs for this device).
Welcome aboard the crazy train, you're really gonna enjoy the ride.
Congrats on the new phone!
I third the suggestion of getting to know sfhub and qbking as well as Calkulin, Steady Hawkin, agat and others you'll pick up on along the way.
I would suggest staying away from anything ICS until you get more familiar with your E4GT.
well I loved ice on the photon except for not having 4g, and it looks like it is much further along here, I will probably be running pics by the weekend lol, thanks for all the guidance
Don't worry if you have half a clue how to follow directions/flash then you will be ok.
Had a Photon for like a week when it came out. Loved it, but the development for it seemed like it was going NO WHERE lol. This phone is MUCH different.
Is FD02 still the latest repack option that we have, or have I missed one?
I try to keep a check on sfhub's handy autoroot tool to see if there are any updates but wanted to make sure there hasn't been a development since his last update.
We may have lost Steady to the Gnex and there being no reason to do one other than to be up to date with a decent build such as FD26.... we havent seemed to convince anyone to do one quite yet?

Thanks for the reply. I know I've seen a few names bandied about in reference to picking up the repack reins but hadn't found anything confirmed.
I should add I'm one of those anal retentive types who likes having everything in sync (baseband and kernel) regardless if it matters or not. I Odin stock kernels onto custom ROMs then lose access to cwm, so when I want to flash something new I have to autoroot back to a cwm repacked kernel. It's a vicious cycle I put myself through. lol
If there was someone to mentor me I am willing to pick up the job since I am staying on this phone for 2 years. Stalking sfhub i picked up 2 very good threads on kernel development for this phone. But without a little help its something ill get to eventually instead of right this moment.

I wonder if you could PM SteadyHawkin, Shabbypenguin, or chris41g. I'm not 100% certain about the latter but I think all those people have worked in the kernel repack field.
I wish I had the time and technical knowledge to take up the project. You would have my full support and thanks
As important as ROMs and firmware and kernels are, I put modems at the top of my list. After all what good is all this flashy functionality if I can't get a decent signal. I'm pretty new to the Android modding scene so take that opinion with a grain of salt. However I've noticed it seems like every week lately there's been a new modem release. I'm currently running FH13, it was just the last one I read anything about. However I logged on today and saw all these new versions.
I guess my main question is what currently is the "best" modem to be running?
But also why all these releases? Are we just lucky enough to get them leaked or are the developers manic? Again though, FH13 was a step up for me but I'd like to go better, so please share with me if you'd had better results on your E4GT. Thanks!

Modem comes down to your specific device. For me, I still consider EL29 the best.
And why all the modems? Well they are all the modems that are leaked/released from Samsung. Developers don't make modems, they all come from Samsung, which is why they all conform with Samsungs naming method.
For example F(2012)H(August)13(Date)
Hey guys,
After many attempts and long hours of research and trial and error, I have decided that none of the Sprint GS3 roms will work completely on the CSpire GS3. All functions work properly with the exception of data. I have pulled my stock PRL and loaded it to several different roms after a fresh flash and not once was data achieved. That tells me that there is either some settings that need to be altered or some code needs to be changed. I unfortunately have a very limited understanding of coding in linux. I as well as many other new GS3 owners would really appreciate a dev looking into this matter. Contact me and I will be willing to get you whatever information you need. Thank you very much?
I apologize if this is in the wrong area, but i felt that since this could result in a new rom, that the devs needed to see this post.

OK so i pulled my RIL file and flashed CM10 pasted RIL in LIB and rebooted, still no data. If this is not the correct way for use stock RIL in CM10 please let me know. It appears as if CM10 does not know how to control my radio. Any devs wanna help tackle this project? If so there would be many CSpire GS3 owners that would be very appreciative.

Trust me, I voiced what most people think. If every one who had a question for a dev, would start a new thread in development, then it will just become a question and answer thread. Only development belongs there.
Thankfully it's in the right section now and hopefully someone can help you guys.

No. Currently on cspire 20005 prl. And without a flashable prl file I'm not willng to risk flashing a sprint prl.

Cant get dfs or qpst to see my phone so cant back up prl. But I'm in agreement that I dont think the prl is the issue. I think it has to do with something in the code being different for our phones. Maybe something along the lines of the issues that the verizon users were having with the RIL. I'm away from my computer so I cant get u a copy of my stock nandroid backup, but will do that as soon as I get home from work around 3 this morning central time.

I got one posted in the other thread. Straight up restored it to my sprint gs3. Works better than the actual sprint one. I made a ROM and Odin restore which I'll post in a minute.
AND TO ANY STOCK ROOTED USERS ON SPRINT: I recommend flashing it. Works perfect and stock tethering is fully functional. Worth trying out
Did you try to flash any tw roms? It might be something in the rom. Try the jb leak for the sprint one. Might get lucky

I just purchased a new to me SPH-D710. I need some name/compatibility clarifications.
I see that both the SPH-D710 and the I9100 seem to both be called by the Galaxy S2 name.
It looks like the chipset and cpu are the same on the D710, and the I9000. Are they close enough that they both use the same roms?
I also see that the D700 and the D710 are called by the Epic 4g name. Is there a easy way to identify which kind of rom I am looking at? It looks like the D710s are referred to as E4GT most often. Is there something else I should look for?
When I go to pick out my new rom and related things what should I look for to help avoid bricking my new toy?
Is there a thread that talks about this somewhere, which I have missed?
Thanks.

unless you want a fancy paper weight, never use roms from other phones. They have different model numbers and are under different forum threads for a reason
NO no NO no No no NO noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Onle use roms, kernels, recovery etc made for this specific phone. D710, Epic 4G Touch, Sprint Galaxy S2
Please read the stickys and many other threads here before flashing anything. Also if there are directions on how to install a rom they are there for a reason.
Hey wiz, just stick with the "Epic Touch" forums and threads.
The key word is "Touch", that's what distinguishes your phone from the other variants.
Be a real wizard and read as much as possible in the "development" thread.

Read up, and you'll find if you pay attn, it's very hard to actually hard brick this puppy, as long as you stick to the E4GT roms. Happy flashing!

Read the stickies, stay in the sprint epic 4g touch forums, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT flash anything for any device other than the sprint/boost/virgin galaxy s2/epic 4g touch/e4gt/sph-d710 any other model and you have a new doorstop/paper weight/clay pigeon for skeet shooting, etc. Read, read, read, when you think you got it read some more, then read it all again. Recovery is packed in the kernel in this device so before you do anything get a copy of chris41g's el26+cwm5 recovery/kernel in both tar and zip formats, you'll be using it often so keep em on your PC and SD card, go ahead and put em both in your dropbox/box accounts too.

Is the boost Mobile sgsII the same as the e4gt? Everything I read says yes but I'm having a hard time distinguishing when I should heed to the "only for sprint" or brick warnings.
Trying to help a friend out and don't know much about the phone myself. It is apparently rooted already. This is the info I have on hand. Would like to get a jb aosp build working on it if I can

Yes the only difference is the mmsc/mms apn's everything else is identical. If you use a sprint rom you need to edit the mmsc/mms apns to get picture messaging (MMS) functioning and you're good to go. There may even be a zip for boost that will set the APNs for you, but I'm nkt sure if anyone's made one yet for the et4g

Evil is exactly right. I have a boost galaxy s2. It's exactly the same, sph-d710, just has bst on the end which stands for boost. All E4GT roms in here will work just fine. Just get your MSL, edit mmsc url to mm.myboostmobile.com and life will be grand. Search, read, read, some more. But whatever you do don't flash the i9000 or epic 4g roms!

Thank you both for your time. I'm still reading. I read not to use the recovery to flash just use Odin. Correct? Seems pointless to have a custom recovery and not use it. Recovery is packaged with the kernel I understand so I have to make sure it's e4gt compatible not necessarily boost specific since the partitions are the same I believe. Is there a thread I can get specifics on flashing? Thanks again. This is new territory for me so I have a bit of reading to do as always

The screenshot shows you're running agat's kernel, so it's definitely rooted. This is MY opinion only. I only flash through custom recovery when the install calls for it. For me, I flash a lot of mods, tweaks, etc, just to get unique, customized "feels.". Cwm is perfect for that. Alot of custom ROMs come with some type of custom recovery, you are correct about that. However, the jb roms that are out so not, because the source hasn't been released yet. So that may be what you've been reading. Agat has a custom recovery but from my experience it's hit or miss, and shouldn't be used to restore or flash roms, obit mods and tweaks. Every E4GT rom out there will flash to the boost variant, just know you'll have to change the mmsc url as discussed before ifs it's a sprint rom. All the roms also have specific instructions on how to flash them. If it says use a stock kernel, you can't go wrong with Chris41g's EL26 stock cwm kernel. It's safe and you shouldn't run the risk of bricking. Just flash it through odin, pull the battery, reboot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, flash rom, and you should be golden. Again, read the install instructions on the dev's thread for that specific rom. These guys are top notch, and won't steer you wrong. Good luck, never stop reading! Let me know how it goes.

Thank you very much. I never stop reading. This is some new learning for me. A friend had his friend root the phone and now it's running rough he says. I have little experience with CDMA and no experience with Odin or boost Mobile. The guy who rooted it for him told him to unroot it all he had to do was factory data reset. I don't have to tell you why I'm shocked he even got it rooted in the first place. I have to pick up the pieces now and fix it. Didn't see any flashing procedure on carbon ROM op. I'll look again. I got sent through my research to a kernel repository and everything said sprint e4gt only. I'm guessing that is not true and I can ignore it as long as it is an e4gt. Not sure of the process of flashing jb but I'll figure it out. Are the jb builds stable on this device? Just out of curiosity. I have a nexus 4 so I have no idea. I'll continue reading. Thanks again for all the guidance here

I am certainly no expert, but what I have figured out through trial and error, it's that jb roms can be a bit tricky to flash at the moment, simply because the source isn't out yet and the pros here haven't been able to work their magic as thoroughly as say, an ics or gb ROM. My advice, start slow. Flash an "easy" very stable Rom like Calkulin E4GT or Vemum's epic venum rom. There are a ton out there, those are just a couple that I really enjoy, and are a breeze to flash. Once you get that done, and have picked up the pieces from the shady rooting that your friend had done, then you can do a good nandroid backup, and tinker to your heart's content with some of the jb roms. I'm currently running Shadow_God's Jellyverse 1.0 and it is super smooth. Have limited knowledge but am happy to help. And another thing, the repository was probably rwilco12's. Save that to your favorites. You'll use that regularly. And yes, all of his E4GT modems, kernels, everything, works on boost. Fyi, boost is on sprints network. Hope this helps

Thanks yet again. I was thinking the same thing about choice of ROMs. I'm sure I could figure or how to flash it fine but it might not be stable enough for someone who is not here at xda. I'm certainly no noob to android, rooting or customizing at all but he lacks the knowledge I have gained over time. I think he would be better off with the ICS build. I will try the one you enjoy as I'm sure he will enjoy it as well. Thanks again for everything.

If he's not accustomed to ROMs, the most stable for me has been EL29. There are several really good ones on here, but personally I really like the epic venum, xplod xe(but make sure you read thoroughly, that I've can be tricky), and the Blu Kuban, but they are all really smooth and solid. For pure, simple, functionality, you can't go wrong with Calkulin's either. Good luck! Glad to help!

I think I saw a venum build that looked interesting. May try that one out first. I read that mobile Odin isn't optimized for this phone. Have you tried it? Seems like that would make life easier. Do kernels for this phone work like other phones in the area of say over clocking or under volting? I got a lot of reading to do.
At least I'm comfortable with the boost aspect of it now. That was the part that was most confusing. All the handset specific parts I'll learn pretty quickly

Disregard last couple of questions. Answered myself reading through a couple ROM threads.

The venum ROMs are all very solid. Team Venum are awesome developers and themers. I particularly like the epic venum, but I morphed some stuff over from Team Nocturnal's xplod xe ROM. I have used Mobile Odin on this phone, as have alot of folks on here. Personally, my flashing method of choice is cwm. Agat makes some great ones, but with the EL29, I actually flashed Team Rogue's gunslinger kernel so I could overclock(that answered the other part of your question). Yes, it can be done. I used setcpu myself, but it's all about personal taste. There are tons of mods and tweaks for a lot of the ROMs out there. I flash all of them through cwm, just because that is what I'm most comfortable with. Plus in one shot I can wipe, do a backup, flash stock cwm if needed, and then flash the mod/tweak. But I've read plenty where guys on here use Mobile Odin. Oh, and I just read Carbon ROM's thread. I wouldn't flash that to your buddy's phone yet if I were you. From the sound of it, it's still in beta, and being tested. Stick to the solid, confirmed, stable stuff for starters. Hope that helps!

I was thinking the same thing. If it was my phone I would have no problem with beta testing and helping with further development. Seeing as it's not and he might have problems until I see him again (could be a week or 2) I'll stick with what is stable and easy to work with. From the screenshot he sent me that I posted earlier it seems as though that kernel has since been updated so I guess I'll start there and go with an easy build he can work with.
Time to start the downloading and figuring out Odin and recovery to be ready when I see him. Thanks again for all your help. HTC and nexus seem easier to work with in a way. Just new things to learn and broaden my knowledge of Android

Good luck with everything. Glad I could help. If he has agat, you shouldn't need Odin since agat Wii have a custom recovery built. Just load the rom to his sd card, boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, flash the rom as per the instruction and you should be good. Or use agat cwm to flash a.safe el build kernel. Chris41g's el29 is a great one. Good luck! Let me know if you have any issues.
