Video Review: SGP Flex Screenshield Install/Review - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys,
Got my hands on the new SGP Flex screenshield. This is a wet install screen protector that covers the whole front of your device, so those users that were not pleased with the coverage of the SGP Ultra Oleophobic should give this one a look.
Install was really simple and it cleared up within a day, while the screen protector shows fingerprints and is a little tacky, it is super clear and offers great protector.
Full review below:

Wonderful! I've been looking for a review for this, and it's finally here from someone!
I'm not sure how I feel about it. I loved the Ultra Crystal on my Droid X/Fascinate/Motorola Xoom. Also, in the video, the orange peel didn't really show up when you had the screen on. Does it show up when the screen is on or is it only if it's caught at a certain angle? Also, can you update this in a couple of days after you've used it longer? I've heard that the rubbery-ness goes away on certain screen protectors and I wanted to see if the same could be said for this one.
Thanks!

I am so torn! I love the crystal clear I have on my dinc but for the gnex I will be getting im not liking how sgp cut the protectors small due to the curved screen. I like that this gives edge to edge coverage but that rubbery sticky feeling is a complete turn off for me..what to do what to do...

nice review mate keep it up

sgp crystal = close to glass feel
zagg = rubbery feel
I ordered the anti-fingerprint... should be here in a day or so.. cant wait cause i dont like the feel of the zagg at all!
Let us know how they are.
Especially the anti-fingerprint..
My two biggest probs with this phone are
A. oil
B. not as smooth as an oleophobic coated equivalent. (AKA oil again)
in for the reviews...
Incredible... They are out of stock. FAIL
be happy you didn't get one. i got my anti fingerprint today and there are no holes cut out on it for the front facing camera. their design is wrong its probably the same as the HD2.
Just ordered the anti-fingerprint.
I've been using the crappy one from sprint, and it already has marks on it that won't come off.
I used to use powersupport crystal film on an iphone, and it felt like glass and lasted forever without getting any marks/dings/scratches on it, so I'll see how this compares.

Many of the protectors on the market don't have cutouts for anything but the speaker - this is not that unusual or "wrong"...
I have pretty much settled on boxwave as my sole provider of screen protectors for various devices after having tried many. They have the best custom fit (all holes cut out) screen protectors in my experience. I actually do not use the clear one, just the anti-fingerprint one.
For cases, I pretty much go exclusively with Seidio now too.

its not wrong... like someone else said.. i am not sure i have heard of ANY screen protector that has cutouts on the front for the camera or light sensor. Like i said in the other post, these are "99.9% optically clear" and they should not interfere with anything.
Well.. i got my Steinheil anti-fingerprint the other day and i am shipping it back today.
What i liked: The fit / cut was great! Didnt interfere with the camera and was perfect. I really like the material its made of (not stretchy spongy like Zagg) very hard and felt good on the screen. And the aheisive they used was really awesome! While putting it on, its very easy to take off and move so you make sure you have it in the right spot, but after its on, it stays in place well!
What i didnt like: Really the only thing i didnt like was the matte finish on the anti-fingerprint ones. It felt nice and was great to the touch. My finger glided very smooth over the surface, however, it seemed to give the screen a grainy look and with this beautiful screen on the Evo, you just cant have that.
I would absoulutely buy from them again if they had the clear in stock or could tell me when they would have more in stock. But they cant, so i am returning it and think i will try the handhelditems ones just to see if there is a quality difference in the "value" priced ones VS. the "premium" ones (my guess is there wont be)
zagg has cutouts for both. it's the only one i have delt with.

Just got mine last night. I have the same opinion of it. However, I applied mine anyway because I had the crappy universal Sprint one on there and they only cut a square to match the 4.3" display instead of all of the glass.
I ordered a crystal one also last night...I'm impressed with the anti-fingerprint one, but like you said, the matte/grainy finish is just a no-go on such a nice display.
Boxwave has these cutouts. I have and always will be a Boxwaver....

Boxwave boxwave boxwave. All the correct cutouts and perfect feel and look.
I received the Steinheil Ultra Crystal Clear protectors in the mail today. I like the feel of it-no rubbery feel at all. The installation is a dry method and very easy to apply and walk away with a perfect looking screen. There is no wait time like with some other brands out there where you need to use liquid for the installation. On the EVO I've tried Ghost Armor, Phantom Skinz, and ExtremeShields and now Steinheil. Steinheil by far is my preference though wish the protectors were cut to the actual size of the screen not smaller than it. I'd much rather have a more difficult installation with 100% of the screen covered than an easier one with portions of it unprotected. Of all the protectors I've tried cut wise-Phantom Skinz covered the most screen of all them.

Steinheil Screen Protectors Out for Thunderbolt

Just an FYI as I know I like to have my screen protector on the day I purchase my phone. Steinheil has all three of their major products for the Thunderbolt now available. Just ordered mine.
Ultra Crystal, Ultra Fine and the Ultra Oleophobic.
I will have to say that I have tried a ton of different protectors in my time and nothing compares to Steinheil.
Crossing fingers for a TB release tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads upon these, I always like to purchase their screen protectors.
Anyone used the Incredible Shield they offer? I put my Incredible in a case when i got it and took it out to clean it a month later and it was all scuffed and scratched up. Dont want that to happen again.
This is my first smartphone, so whats the difference between the three?
Just got mine in the mail yesterday and got to order my Seidio case. That way I am all ready whenever they decide to drop this phone.
As far as the difference between the three:
The Ultra Crystal is bascially the defacto standard for Steinheil. Crystal clear and to me actually enhances the actual screen.
The Oleophobic is new to me but thats actually the one I purchased. Its supposedly like the ultra clear but with an anti-water/oil coating (the iphone has this caoting on the default screen itself.)
The anti-fingerprint one I have also installed on my wife and mother-in-laws's Facinates. Its basically a matte finish that doesn't show any fingerprints but does in my opinion not do justice to the screens on these new phones. But some users just really hate fingerprints.
Hope this helps.
-Lil'
lilsalmon, have you ever seen the Incredible Shield they offer? I was thinking of getting this instead of a case.
Not first hand.
All I can say is I have tried quite a few different cases and screen protectors with my Incredible, Droid 1 and my wife's Facinate and Eris and Steinheil's screen protectors are far superior to all in my opinion.
-Lil'
Can you post pics of the Oleophobic? Ive always used the ultra clears and love them but I wonder how different the Oleophobic is?
Thanks
I've been using the Ultra fine ones for the past 2 days and I love it. I only use SPG screen protectors.
Can't wait to hear what you think of it.
I made the mistake of buying the VZW screens and wound up w/ a scratch on my screen...ugh.
The picture won't show much difference than the Ultra Crystal. Honestly I had always used the Ultra Crystal myself and just wanted to try the Oleophobic. I have been really impressed. Its basically the same clarity etc as the Ultra Crystal but resists fingerprints a bit more. You still get finger prints but not as many.
I hope this helps.

Steinheil fit
How good does the Steinheil protector fit? Does it cover the
complete screen?
Thanks in advance
Fits perfect. You wont even know there is a protector on it.
Got mine installed this past weekend. Best screen protector I have used Had a Zagg on my D1 but hated the rubbery feel. Using the crystal clear and it glides smoother then nothing at all..
Just ordered the Ultra Fine from Amazon. Should be arriving on Friday.
Sounds like the Oleophobic is the way to go, I hope I can get my Zagg off without to much trouble. Has anyone removed a Zagg, what did you use to accomplish it and get the screen clean?
The Zagg should come off no problem. I just removed mine.. nice protection but hate the feel of it.
I got the SGP ultra fine, the first one had problems where the pull tab is for peeling it. The 2nd looked much better, i love the way it feels, finger usually just glides across the screen without grabbing or sticking. The fit is good, just enough room to get it on without it having to be exactly perfect.

They cover the screen but the fit is not "perfect" by definition. They are slightly narrower and shorter than the screen but I've never seen a screen protector with a "perfect" fit. Not sure why it's so hard to make a protector exactly the same size as the screen but apparently it is.
I'm satisfied with mine but I'm not sure it's worth the price premium over the cheap protectors I was using prior to this one. I guess time will tell.

[Q] Anyone have SGP Ultra Olephobic with a case on?

Hey everyone!
I wanted to ask if anyone has the SGP Ultra Oleophobic screen protector on their GNex with a case? I know the SGP is cut real short but I'm hoping the front lip of the case covers the unprotected edges? I currently have the xo skin with the seidio surface case, but there is a little more drag+rubbery-like feeling than I expected. Wanted to see if anyone has pictures or can give me a little advice as to how well this combination works.
I also noticed that seidio released there ultimate screen guard for the Gnex. Has anyone had a chance to try them on previous phones?
Thanks in advance.
i just put on the sgp ultra oleophobic screen protector last night, and i have a quiebits snap on case. i must say im' disappointed in this screen protector. I've used sgp screen protectors before (iphones, blackberry, nexus one) and have always gotten the crystal clear. I figured id benefit from this uo version with the fingerprints, but its on par with the crystal clear or even worse. the oil from my fingers tends to build up on the screen and causes a grainy rainbow like distortion when i'm looking at my screen. I admit, oil wipes off rather easily with just a t-shirt, but who wants to wipe down their screen every 30 seconds. for 14 dollars from amazon, i should have just bought a 30 generic crystal clear screen protectors. but anyways, its protected, and that should be the priority i suppose. oh and btw, yes, it is cut very small- there is about a 2-3mm gap all around. not too worried about that though, i'd rather have this than deal with bubbling issues on the edges. gl.

Quick question about screen protectors

Sorry guys, I know there are about three thousand or so threads about screen protectors and whatnot.....but yeah...
So here's the thing. I ordered the UltraTough Clear ScreenGuardz from Bodyguardz and I am thinking about returning it.
After reading around in forums, I am really leaning towards getting one of these two:
SGP Samsung Galaxy S3 Screen Protector Steinheil Ultra Nano Clear
Skinomi TechSkin - Samsung Galaxy S3 Screen Protector Ultra Clear Shield
Would you guys think that these screen protectors are a better alternative to the bodyguardz screen protector...or should I just stick with the one I bought? Do you know better ones?
What I am looking for is a screen protector that won't affect the screen quality.
At this point I am also considering going naked.
Thanks ahead of time!
In the past I have used many different screen protectors. Lately i have been sticking with SGP. I have the ultra clear now, but seems they have replaced it with the Ultra Nano Clear. Not sure how that one is. I have ordered the
Skinomi TechSkin - Samsung Galaxy S3 Screen Protector Ultra Clear Shield but have not received it yet. I could be wrong but in my opinion the best for screen quality are the ones you don't need to spray with a solution like SGP. Seems like Zagg and some others that you spray to get on just affect the screen too much. Again thats just my opinion.
The ReaLook Flex HD won't alter the screen quality. It's the only wet screen protector that I've seen that doesn't have any type of orange peel.
Dude you already have the BG so just slap that on and give it a shot. I like that its a hard shield and not the rubbery film like the skinomi or zagg. If it doesnt look good then go for the nano, at least this is the path I have taken, I just got my BG yesterday. If it dont work out I will try the nano
Hmm, thanks for the feedback guys!
I did slap the BG on yesterday, but after about 3 hours there was something about it that bugged me.
I think I am gonna go ahead and order the nano and see how that works out. I am gonna put BG back on for now.
Let me know what else you guys think! I am loving the feedback! =)

So far no luck finding a good screen protector. Suggestions?

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but for now it seems like we can't get a good screen protector for the S3. All the flexible film based protectors dent too easy. This includes protectors like the SGP Curved Crystal. This review below clearly shows what I mean about easily denting. It also has issues with tight fitting cases.
Then if we go for a screen protector that doesn't dent so easy, they end up not covering enough of the screen. The SPG Ultra Clear nano and Ultra Crystal (2nd version) both don't dent like the Curved Crystal, but they don't cover enough of the screen. Especially the sides. So swiping near the edges you can easily feel the ridge. Ruins the smooth experience of the S3. Would be nice if Spiegen does a revision of the Curved Crystal like they did with the Ultra Crystal and made it so it didn't dent so easily. I definitely don't want to go with tempered glass as its just too thick. I am currently using a Realook Flex Film, and it covers the whole screen nicely, but has orange peal and dents easy just like the other flexible films out there. Realook now has a "3D forming crystal clear" protector. It covers the whole screen and uses their PET material for the main part of the screen, which should prevent the denting effect. I'll give this one a try, if it's not that great, I may just use no protector and go with a flip case. Anyone else have any suggestions.
Here's a pic of what I mean with not covering the whole screen for the Spigen SGP screen protectors.
This is what I just bought.. not sure when it's going to arrive but it should fit your criteria better?

To be honest, I've searched far and wide through the threads and Spigen seems to be the protector of choice. But once I look at reviews of those protectors elsewhere (like the YouTube video I posted) I end up seeing that they're not that great. I'm beginning to think that we have to go with either the flip cover protector or go with a hard film protector that doesn't cover the whole screen in order to get that glass like experience. All the soft film based protectors just dent to easy or have some orange peel effect. It just ruins the beautiful display of the S3.

You are correct, the Ultra nano does not cover the entire screen. Really though, it makes it perfect for use with a case. The amount no covered is so minimal when using most cases that it's not concern, for me anyway.
I use the screen protector that came with my otterbox case and it has served me well so far. It doesn't cover the whole screen but then again, if it did it would come off when I used a case.

I use the genuine Samsung Super Slim case which I feel gives the scratch protection I need for the back and sides of the phone, while adding practically no bulk to the phone. So an edge to edge screen protector would have no issues for me. If only Spigen would use the same material they use for the Ultra Nano or Ultra Crystal in their Curved Crystal protector it would be perfect. It's really too bad the Curved Crystal dents/creases so easily as shows in the above video.
I like what zagg did for the iPhone. They make a case friendly screen protector. I like having that option. If you plan to use a case then it's a perfect choice. If going to use no case or a snap on case then a regular screen protector suits just fine. It would be nice for companies to show android some love in this respect of options.

you can pick up the SGP Flex HD. They cover the entire screen, and is hard to see that it is actually there. It feels smooth as well. Also it doesn't leave much finger prints on there
It seems you haven't looked hard enough, I have a thread on a skinplayer 3D mask film, 99.5% full coverage and has a self healing surface, flexible PET screen protector.
I use the zagg invisishield. Best one I've used yet. I also use it on my tablet. It's more expensive, but worth it. Of course I got mine from best buy the second day the phone was out. So there were only two to choose from ,and I didn't want to wait for one to be shipped to me.
It's designed to fill itself in for minor dents and scratches (I possibly butchered that explanation, but I think you understand). Also, it can be removed and reapplied.
The best part though, is that it's so clear it doesn't detract from the screen. In the past when I would use a screen protector it would always look like a filter was on my screen. Hated it. They've come a long ways in that aspect.

not 100% coverage, but excellent quality.
I hate when people ask about screen protectors because that means they obviously don't know about the best one out there. It is called clear-coat. Google it. Ive had it on all my phones. It is perfect. It doesn't come off unless you peel it off and leaves no residue behind. Most malls have a station that sells it and puts it on for you. If you watch videos of it you will see a guy scratching his iphone against rock and then peeling it off and no marks on the screen. Best way to go by far. It is also covered by a lifetime guarantee.
Skinomi - - - - very nice!

Vikuiti!
I'm currently using Vikuiti screen protectors, and they're working out pretty well. It attracts fingerprints a bit, but nothing a quick wipe doesn't get rid of~
I'm not really so sure why everyone is so worried about the very edges of the screen that the Ultra Nano doesn't cover. It's a great protector that you can barely even tell is there, and it covers all of the important and useful parts of the screen just fine. I've been using it for 2 months and it still looks great, plus I've had no issues at all with scratches on the edges that aren't covered. Using it with a Diztronic TPU case. Put a case on your phone and the combination seems perfect to me.
I've been using vikuiti ( a less mentioned brand for screen protectors I think) and it's been working perfectly fine with the genuine galaxy s3 clear TPU case. No scratches on the phone or screen protector, I never really understood how people had to cycle through so many screen protectors. Best of luck to you finding your preferred sp!
