Well here is the bone head move I did.I flashed unrevoked forever S on zip and a error came up so I panicked and pulled battery and reset phone ...
So now I have sprint ROM back on with no super user app on it..Looks just like when I bought it .
But still have S off and don't know what to do..And have to send it back in three days to insurance place ..So i checked HTC update and had one so i acccepted it thinking it would turn S on after I do a system update and still S off on 4.54 version ..confused
Help please ,thanks from the noob

Well, if you took the OTA, you should be on the newer hboot, in which you go to revolutionary.io and follow the instructions. All the files you need will be there.
Thanks, and that will help me get back to S on ..it still looks like a froyo ROM even when the first update said it was gingerbread so i accepted it and phone never changed so i did another update the 4.54 update and still have S off ..

You are going to be forever doing it that way, because now you will be S-OFF twice, once in the bootloader (from Revolutionary) and again under the nv radio (from unrevoked). Then you will have 2 of them to get rid of before you are S-ON, but getting S-ON is going to be complicated regardless. It's much easier to just leave the phone S-OFF and with the latest stock ROM.
First, you need to flash a custom recovery so that you can downgrade your radio, then flash the unrevoked-forever-son tool.
Here is the PC36IMG file for the custom recovery

The radio that you will need to flash through the recovery is here

The unrevoked-forever-s-on tool can be found on this site (you might have it already)
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
And, finally, you need to to run this PC36IMG file to update back to the latest stock ROM

Unfortunately I don't think so, because I'm not sure if he'll have to flash files in recovery, but he'll still need to be rooted to finish the process, and I know its a round about thing.
I would just run a 4.54 ruu or flash a 4.54 stock pc36img and leave s-off and return the phone. Since you said "send" the phone, I doubt its even gonna matter. What r u returning it for?
Support TrevE !!
You really don't need to unroot, IMO. I still have yet to see one case where Sprint techs checked for s-off on a stock ROM.

He's already S-OFF, so he does not need to reroot. He needs the unrevoked-forever-son tool, since he seems to indicate in the title that he is unrooting unrevoked 3, which is only going to work on an older radio.
If he used revolutionary, then he needs Captain Throwback's PC36IMG file to turn S-ON. Either way, he doesn't need to reroot.
Regardless, it's much easier to just leave it S-OFF.

Hello everyone,
I just got my Droid Incredible and have rooted it using Unrevoked3. I'm really enjoying it, but I have a few questions:
Am I correct in thinking that rooting consists entirely of getting su and Superuser.apk on the phone, and the hard part is setuiding and chmodding them?
What exactly is meant by "radio" in "flash a new radio"?
Why is it necessary to flash the stock recovery before applying an OTA update? Shouldn't ClockworkMod be able to do anything the stock recovery can?
(Somewhat related to the previous question) What would happen if one accepted an OTA without unrooting or applying the stock recovery?
Thank you all and sorry for my noobishness.
1. It also consists of replacing the stock recovery with Clockwork. It's ridiculously simple thanks to the unrevoked tool.
2. Radio = Baseband.
3. No, Clockwork cannot currently flash the radio.
4. I doubt anyone could answer for sure until it comes out

I'm not trying to criticize Clockwork in any way here, but why can't it flash the radio? Does it need the NAND to be unlocked, and if so, would it be possible to use Unrevoked to put on a new radio?

1. Root consists of getting the MOST access to the device so things that we're normally out of our privilege range can be accessed... i.e. flashlight/titanium back up etc. It also pushes busybox su and the custom recovery to make ADB easier.
2. Think of the radio as the bios on your PC....very important...mess with it and you can EASILY break your machine of choice.
3. The reason I am sure Koush left radio flashability out is because of the ridiculous amount of noobs that would simply destroy their device by being curious/not reading the giant red letters in most posts/just not paying attention to what they are doing. It is VERY easy to brick a device with access to flashing the radio...dangerous and probably a fail safe to keep as many bricks down as possible.
4. What would probably happen with the OTA is you will either A. Loose root and be completely stock WITH NO WAY of downgrading to gain root. B. Brick Brick Brick. C. Profit? D. It might not let you even continue with the installation because of the custom recovery...not sure though because it hasn't happened yet....just DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OTA REQUESTS.
The PB image is the only way to downgrade back to stock. Completely stock. Out of the box stock. No root...no nothing! BUT it reopens the unrevoked exploits so you can reroot and also allows you to flash the OTA is your version is older...some tricks need to be taken though to get your version older then the ota.
The OTA is said to patch the exploit to RUU to stock. That means no mores roots if you OTA. Wait it out...when it drops it will be rooted and ready for the flashness.
Hi -
I just rooted my Incredible running the 2.2 OTA using the new Unrevoked release. It worked great! I installed the clockwork mod using the advice from this article (didn't use clockwork after all, used Root Explorer to move the apps I didn't want to folder I created)
jonamerica.com/technology/remove-bloatware-from-htc-droid-incredible-2-2/[/url]
I didn't know that I could use Root Explorer and do the same thing myself....
Is there any easy way to uninstall the Clockwork Recovery mod? I couldn't find any info online on bringing it back to stock. - My main concern is that any future OTA updates will be messed up with this installed.
I have heard stories about it bricking phones after the install???? If need be I will return the phone to stock and start over (link to how to do this anyone?)
I'm new to all this, any info/links would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I'll be honest with you..I've never heard a story of clockwork mod bricking someone's phone...Usually bricking occurs when someone does something out of order or fails to follow directions. Either way, take a look at this guide..if you want to return to stock...

Future OTA updates? haha, i dont know. 2.2 is out. HTC fufilled their commitment, i think we have a while especially if the incredible is being upgraded to magical gingerbread. Good luck!
Thanks for getting back so quickly!
I assume I would use section 6 - the PB31IMG is the 2.2 RUU correct?
Is this even possible? If you flash back to the RUU, it will wipe your ROM. Doing so will put the bloatware back on to the phone. In order for Root Explorer to have su access to remove the bloatware, you'd need to flash "SuperUser.apk". Wouldn't you need to install a custom recovery to do this? At this point, you're right back to where you started. I guess there might be a way to install SuperUser.apk through adb.
Don't take this as gospel. I'm still getting my feet wet. I might be missing something...

I was mainly looking for a quick way to get the phone back to %100 stock just in case I have to send it back to VZW. When I worked at VZW certain RUU's wouldn't flash if the version was the same, not sure if that's changed or not. Just wondering if I ran the RUU would it return everything to stock?
Yes. Since you are s-on, the ruu would take you back to full stock.

CWM
There are at least 2 schools of thought on CWM, but this is the first place I'd read where it could brick your device.
That said, following the guidance on how to use it found here and elsewhere, CWM ~ while not pretty or particularly intuitive ~ won't brick your device, in and of itself.
I know your Qx has to do with getting it back to shelf-status, but the threads posted above should get you where you want/need to be -

Does anyone know where to get a copy of the stock inc2 recovery image? This is something I failed to backup before installing Clockworkmod recovery image.

If you follow the link provided by TB13, you will see the download link for the vivo_w which is for the incredible 2. Launch the application to let it extract everything (its Windows only) and check your temp directory for the directory created by the application (guid format). You will see a Rom.zip file which contains what you need.

I was able to successfully revert back to stock Froyo 2.2.1 (non-rooted) using the RUU image RUU_Vivo_W_VERIZON_WWE_1.34.605.3_Radio_0.99.01.02 25_2_NV_VZW1.92_release_181303_signed from TB13's link above. Only thing is, I'm not sure that's what shipped on the Inc2's. From what I've read, I think it might be 1.34.605.4 is what shipped. That said, same results here. I did go ahead and end up reinstall clockwork and have Gingersense back from recovery. Wonderful stuff.

Interesting. No quite what I was hoping for out of that RUU, but I guess I can't complain. The real interest is seeing if someone who is S-ON and running OTA can use it to downgrade and get S-OFF.

I am getting another Dinc 2 in the mail today. If it has GB on it, I will attempt to flash 2.2.1 RUU and see what happens. I will post the results here. Only thing is, how do I attempt to flash that on a stock s-off GB phone? I do see un1c0de has some instructions, but what should I do with Rom.zip once I have it? My other problem is I have to return the one I have, which is s-off. I will have to flash the RUU on there too, but I just hope they don't catch the fact that it is s-off. (I'm not trying to pull a scam. Bought the Dinc 2 at retail, then found out I could trade in my POS Fascinate for a free Dinc 2, so now I have to return the one I bought. Nothing wrong with it, just want my $475 back)
Edit: Looks like someone tried and posted their results in another thread. Oh well. Hopefully for me it still has froyo on it when it gets here.

I used the AlpharevX Windows beta to S-OFF my Inc 2, then rooted using CWM (still on stock rom). I can see the OTA, and can download it, but it won't install.
The progress bar gets about 1/3 the way full then comes up with the triangle with the !.
I've tried it two or three times, did factory reset, have no idea what to do. Do I have to S-ON for it to install? If so, how exactly do I do that?

First, you cannot install an OTA when you have a custom recovery such as CWM installed. You at least need to install the original recovery image for your particular ROM before you try again.
Since the OTA in now available and official, why don't you just wait a few hours and someone will have a fully rooted version of the ROM that you can flash using CWM and not worry about losing S-OFF?
Let me give you a fair warning though, I'm not positive how Alpha set up their root, as I used XTC. BUT I know if you install the OTA with replacing CWM with regular recovery, you MAY be turned back to S-ON WITHOUT an option to get root back, UNLESS using the XTC clip. Enjoy.
Okay, I was afraid of that. I'm used to not even being able to see OTA's at all with CWM (came from Droid X), so it kind of threw me off.
Do you have any idea if the OTA is really any different from the leaked Inc S GB rom that's floating around? If, for some reason, it takes forever to get the ota rooted and they're not that different I may just install the leaked one I have.
Not trying to be a pain, just curious.

I just created a PG32IMG.zip containing. Android-info text file and CWM recovery img renamed to recovery.img and placed it on root of sdcard

You will recieve the OTA update and get Gingerbread. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED BY MANY that you will NOT be able to -reroot. if you can that's because of the hboot alpha gave you. but if it changes ur hboot you need XTC clip to re-root. RMK already posted a ROOTED ROM of the current OTA. SAME THING, why chance root for OTA. THEY ARE THE EXACT SAME FILES. BUT WITH ROOT! just use his ROM. my 2 cents. do as you please

Why are you unrooting his device? If it's to get the OTA 2.3.3 update, wouldn't it be easier to flash a rooted stock froyo rom, go to the system update setting and then update? Of course, I'm assuming that is what you're trying to do so forgive me if I misunderstood your post.

Ok, sorry for not being very informed. He tried to update to the ota but it failed. I assumed that it must be because the s-off since he hadn't done anything but tether.
He really has no need to be rooted because the only thing he wanted todo was tether. Now, I have turned the s-on, but the pc36img fails to update.
Is it safe to just check for/install the system up? Or does the phone need to be unrooted?

If you already have S-On, all you need to do is flash the ruu that coincides with software 3.70 or 3.29. You can download any of the ruus for the EVO by clicking on the RUU link in my signature. Also, there's a link to rooted stock roms in my link, as well.

If you already have S-On, all you need to do is flash the ruu that coincides with software 3.70 or 3.29. You can download any of the ruus for the EVO by clicking on the RUU link in my signature. Also, there's a link to rooted stock roms in my link, as well.

Awesome! Thank you very much. I'm on my phone now, so I'll check it out when I get to my laptop.
Before you do something you will regret, go back and use unrevoked asap. Get back to S-off. If you turn S-on, and then take the update, you can not go back at the moment.

Honestly, my bro-in-law doesn't need root. Here I am trying to fix his problem. I've spent more time on this than I should. I mod my X, but the evo confuses me some.
Are you saying he can take the ota rooted, with s-on?
You need S-Off for permanent root and ability to flash custom ROMs. So before you take the OTA for him, as long as the phone is 2.2, run Unrevoked once again and install AmonRa.
Does he even like Sense? I would suggest trying one of the setups from my sig, or even MIUI if he doesn't need 4G.
You could have S-On and get the OTA, which would make his phone unrootable and boring, or you could just root back and flash a ROM with better battery life (I hear that Calkulin's works great, but so do other ROMs)
Before you do anything, try showing him pictures of MIUI, SalvageMod, MikG or another ROM and ask what he likes best.

Oh, and he would need a custom ROM with tethering unlocked for the ability to tether for free. And he would need S-Off to put that ROM on.

I understood from your earlier post that your brother-in-law didn't need root and thus the reasons for the answers I gave. Yes, he can accept the OTA while S-ON and he will indeed upgrade his device to 2.3.3, however, should he wish to unroot afterwards, he won't be able to until an exploit can be found. I take it your friend isn't the type of person who flashes roms, mods, kernels and such.

Alright. I own a droid x and it is extremely simple to root and unroot. My bro-in-law had me help him root his evo using unrevoked3. Now he wants the GB update but cannot get it. Long story short. I flashed the s-on file and it worked. However, when I put the pc36img.zip on the sd card and enter the bootloader, it automatically starts searching the image and I get the error below.
Main version is older!
Update failed
2.15.00.11.19 baseband
Android 2.2 stock everything.
Can someone please help me get his evo unrooted?

check your hboot version and S off status
if its hboot 2.16 and S on, you are boned since you unrooted it when you took the gb update
so basically...dont tell your friend that you screwed his chances to root yourself lol
the correct route would have been to flash with a rooted stock GB ota wich was already out there, but its too late now : /
welcome to the "wait for root" boat with us, leave your bags by the door you will be here a while

you can thether without being rooted
download pdanet app on phone and on pc you want to tether on
hotspot requires root or paying sprint though
I really appreciate everyones help, don't get me wrong. However, I'm sitting here doing all this research and trying to get help for my in-law who thought he needed root and wanted to tether. He doesn't even use tether. I'm not showing him any custom roms. He lives three hours away and i'd be doing all his leg work/fixing his problems.
All I want to do (and him as well) is get him to gb stock unrooted and be done with his phone.
So, if the s-on is on, but the su app is still in the app drawer, and the pc36img.zip failed. If he selects settings>about phone>check for updates, will this get him to gb?

Yes, he should be able to do as you stated above and be updated to 2.3.3?
