[Q] Apps that need root access not work. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Some apps like root explorer, rom manager and faster fix, which needs a phone rooted to work, are not working anymore. I have noticed these apps are not working when I flashed the latest radio- 26.14.04.28 and kernel Lordmod 8.5 cfs.
I reflashed to radio 26.09.04.11 (the recommended radio to use), reinstalled the apps but still none works.
I'm currently using cyanogenmod 7.1.0.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Try uninstalling super user and then reinstalling. Also when you re install check for update through program.

It won't let me to uninstall superuser but by denying i got fastet fix to work. Thanks

That means superuser is in system/app. You can uninstall superuser using adb if you know how. In terminal you would type "adb uninstall /system/app/superuser.apk". Then type adb reboot. After it boots install superuser from market. You may have to type "adb root" before trying to uninstall to receive root access.

That also didn't work. I just flashed the rom again, which was a bummer but it fixed everthing.
Thanks for your help mate

Youtube installation unsuccessful

I have uninstalled it with Titanium Backup (Youtube.apk disappears from /system/app), rebooted, tried to install but has gotten "Installation unsuccessful" instead. Upon rebooting Youtube.apk magically re-appears.
ROM: OpenDesire
same here, running miui.
It's the same issue that affected Maps, etc. Updated fine on RCMixHD btw, installed over the top of the stock app via the Market

Installing over stock app doesn't work on OpenDesire, neither does uninstalling and rebooting.

Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Okay I wiped my phone and installed DeFroST instead. Had not used DeFroST for a long time.
and now it works?
Adb is kinda long try this first see if it works, replace the YouTube apk in gapps(system/app directory) with the new YouTube apk and flash gapps(with the new YouTube).

just S-OFF your device, which enables REAL write access to your system and you can uninstall. with S-ON, you cannot write to /system and other partitions - the SPL denies that.
Use titanium backup to delete it, reboot your phone then install it.
Sent from my HTC Desire
Ganjdroid, he already did that and it didn't work for him :/
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
With Titanium backup it only works for S-OFF phones for all other :
reboot to recovery
mount system partition
plug in to usb
open terminal and wirte:
adb shell
push C://Downloads/Youtube.apk /system/app/
or use Android Commander Instead.

[Q] I need help, Please read and help if you can.

I seriously need help. I have perma-root and have flashed clockwork recovery properly and have installed bacon bits but when i rebooted and went into setcpu to overclock it said that it doesnt have permission. so then to see if superuser permissions was working i went into rom manager and tried to do something and it said not able to perform privileged tasks. so i uninstalled superuser permissions and that didnt work. I reinstalled setcpu because i remembered i had a similar problem before when set cpu wasnt getting permission and required reinstalling. i can get into the clockwork recovery and have ran the vision bacon bits a couple of times to see if it would work. nope. i went into superuser permissions' settings and check for updates and found one but the thing couldnt install it so it saved the .zip in my sdcard and told me to flash it from recovery. wehn i do that the clockwork recovery replies back that the file is bad. I dont know what to do. I dont want to reset the whole device becauseu i dont want to loose all the apps i have. please help. please. I am a noob and this was my first android phone and i think i might have screwed it up.
Try running visionary then go into terminal type su hit enter then type sync and hit enter, reboot and you should be fine

When I type in su it says that it couldn't get permission. That's my problem ntohing can get super user permission

Did Superuser re-install when you ran Visionary again?
Go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications and hit the 'All' tab. scroll down to Superuser and Clear Data. You might have denied 'Su' at one point. Go back and try to 'Su' in terminal and it should ask for permission again. Click 'always allow'. Hopefully that fixes everthing.
Nope I did that and it still says permission denied.

Uninstall visionary and SU completely. Reboot the phone. Grab the newest visionary apk from modaco (not on market anymore) and install it via whatever method you choose (adb or on-device package manager, whatever). Run visionary and let it do its thing and try setcpu again.
Also, I highly highly recommend downloading and learning to use titanium backup once you're fully rooted. It's a lifesaver.
The visionary method is a pain in the ass... The rage method is much more reliable... I sent you another message with better instructions... Just uninstall visionary first
Nevermind omarsalmin helped me fix it. Thanks man.

Can't use superuser permissions?

I rooted my phone and installed Cyanogen Mod and as part of the process of installing it I made sure I had it rooted and had superuser permissions. Now, though for some reason whenever my phone tries to ask me for the permissions it says that the app superuser permissions has errored out and needed to be force closed. What could be causing this? I used unrEVOked to root my phone and it's worked fine in the past. Any ideas?

Go into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Superuser, then hit clear data. That may fix the problem.
If not go into Rom Manager > Fix Permissions, let that go through, reboot, and see if that worked.
If neither of those work I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the SU app.
Thanks a bunch. I went ahead and did them both so I couldn't tell you which one fixed it but thanks!

superuser force close

hey guys superuser force closing alot on me im so-off.6.98 boot
it closes then sometimes its fine, titanium backup wont find root then it does seems very strange any ideas?
I also have the same problem
ok i deleted superuser 3.04 and installed 3.02 seems to be working ok.
heres zip if anybody needs,
Anyone know why the update crashes?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
I had updated SU and had the same issue but flashed the zip file above in recovery and it sorted it, so thanks for that. Currently using version 3.0, are there any advantages or new features of the new version?
Did anybody try clearing data for su via manage applications? Usually works for this
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yeah i tried it dan , didnt really help me much.
A new update came out last night, does that fix this?
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
maybe somebody can try mines ok at the mo. and if its working for u why update!
I had problems with 3.02. I then tried to uninstall it and flash 2.3.6.3.
No joy.
Then again the market update for 3.02 showed up and I installed it.
No go.
I went to running apps and cleared data for super-user.
This solved all problems and since then I have updated via market to super-user 3.04 and all is well.
Why use old versions when newer is available
Thanx gerhard i had the same problem and your solution was the best.
I got FC with busybox but after i cleared the data everything was ok.
Thanx again.
-------
Edit : i had to clear data again...it seams i have to clear data every time i want to use it with another app.
An i'm using su 3.0.5
3.0.5 is buggy as all get out and causing all kinds of problems. Makes me wondering if the dev is trying to get people to buy the elite version?
Sorry for the "conspiracy theory" here, but there's been a bunch of SU updates, several of them FC all the time.
I've gone back to 3.0.2 per the zip on this thread. Gotta have my wifi tether working.
Use super user 2.3.6.3
Use super user 2.3.6.3 it solved all my problems.
I read somewhere that if you uncheck the "remember" option, it won't force close. Let me know if that works
I had the same problem with Super User and wasn't able to solve it . I tried cleaning data and then su started up without fc, but it couldn't get root access. So I just wiped everything via recovery (Titanium Backup before that) and reinstalled my current rom. That solved my problem.
I think the latest update fixed the force close error.
edit: No, I hadn't updated yet... my bad, I thought it did.

I am fairly sure 3.0.6 fixed it, I updated it and haven't seen any errors since.
Also updated the binary to 3.0.1 in the Superuser app preferences.
so pi$$ed off with superuser !!,it either force closes or binary will not update ..... i have installed several zip files that are supposed to fix it,tried the one from the market numerous times !!!
i have just got my rom working great, now i cant reset my voltages cant access titanium back up or rom manager.. only one option left full wipe and flash rom again ...... bugger ...... i have tried everything ....
I have the same problem, and i must do wipe all.
Know is working.

[Q] still no root acces

Hello Hox owners,
I rooted my hox a while ago.
Just before the latest update came.
To get the last update, I needed to go back to stock recovery.
This went well I thought but since I have the Wifi problems i was looking at my phone closer and saw I got the stock recovery but SU app still installed.
I want to gain root access again, remove the superuser app, and unroot it fully because I need to send my phone back for repair soon (I hope).
The clockwork was installed succesfully, the latest version of superuser as well, update binaries also flawless but somehow still no root access according to es filemanager and titanium backup...
What do I need to do to get this fix?
Thnx in advance!
Ralph

Maybe those apks were denied permissions for some reason. Try going into superuser & clearing all app default settings & reboot.

Thnx for the reply but no apps are visible inside SuperSU.
Titanium was installed after I "rerooted" my hox.
There is no clear cache option inside SuperSU, right?

Can you get root checker from the market. & confirm that the Su binaries we installed correctly? If that app says your rooted then maybe try clearing superuser data. & reopening your apps.
