spb shell? is it worth the cost? - Epic 4G Apps

16 dollars is alo to pay for an application especially a home screen replacement i would just like to know if there are any spb users out there is it really worth it?

It's visually entertaining. Other than that it's crap and not worth the price tag.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk

I didn't like it ...yea it was very pretty and all....but very slow and got real boring after just a few minutes. Not worth the money IMO

Have you tried "GO"? Its free, there are free themes, and an add-on that will put a little circle with a number on the according dock icon to tell you how many missed calls/txt/voicemails you have.

Nothing beats ADW EX

No it is absolutely not worth it. That's mine (and alot of others) opinion of course, but it's certainly not. It barely has any customization, so basically its like having a stock android launcher, with a few built in widgets that do 3d tricks, and the pretty 3d carousel view. Other than that, it doesn't do anything special besides eat alot of memory, battery life, and money out of your pocket. Mine friend bought it, and it was a total waste he's back on ADW Ex.

That depends on if you really like what it does.
If you "love it", then yah, it is worth it, as a launcher can reshape your entire phone interaction.
I got it for my GF, and she loved it on her EVO, but when I upgraded her to the ET4G, I switched her to ADW Ex, mainly so her new phone looks just like my Epic, (except a pink theme)
Would I buy it again,... probably.
Mainly because I jump on every launcher, given the massive changes launchers can do, I cant resist checking out each new one as soon as I get the chance.
Overall, I think it is overpriced for what it does, but a large part of that may be I am simply not a widget person, nor do I like icons on my desktop, and the main attractions of this launcher, at least IMO, are the animated widgets.

GO launcher is nice, but ever since I found out that it collects data from users, I comepletely stopped using it. Been switching off from Launcher Pro and ADW EX (although I prefer ADW for its usual updates. LP hasn't been updated since early this year)

Adw ex ftw. But you can always 4share spb shell I tried it and looked cool for about 10 minutes. And was a nuciance and was unistalled and I delelted the apk
Sent from my OG Epic

It is cool but not for that much money. It does few things very nicely and yes it is very attractive and I would buy for 1/3 for 1/4 of the price.

It's cool, I liked it, but honestly just try Regina Launcher, it's just as good except it's actually free on the market.

SPB Shell 3D

i've just installed SPB shell 3d on my ZTE blade, and i got to say it is a waste of money. It is very unpractical and useless. Sure it runs suprisingly fast and smooth on the blade (600mhz Cyanogen Mod 2.3) but it is very usless. Its just alot of eye candy and doesnt do much.
The WinMo 3.5 is much better! I am going to try it on my Tab, but just for fun. The SPB shell is a battery resource hog, and is very unpractical.
Share your opinions!
I liked it, but i only tested it ofr about 10 minutes.
But i believe you're right... should not be very practical.

man, use free Zeam Launcher instead:
market.android.com/details?id=org.zeam&feature=search_result
Its pretty good imo. My wife have used it from the start and i have tried it out some. Its easy, runs smooth, nice widgets, nice folders and the battery life have if anything gone up.
Im hoping they will add some more widgets and make it tab friendly with landscape and some more settings.
I used it on and of, didn't like it at the start but is more or less getting use of it. Works better after the last upgrades and with a Heap size of 48 rather that 32.
I bought this app and after 1 month tried Go launcher and love it.
SPB has some nice effects but once you get over that you find it isnt as good as others sadly.
Really nice but unpractical launcher, but no chance it worths almost a tenner for a launcher

Nice, that's all there is to SPB Shell 3D. It sucks memory, reeeaaaalllly slow start at startup. Go Launcher is free and fast.
The concept is interesting, but it needs to adapt to many daily needs most users have.
Bling wise, it is awesome, but compare it to some other launchers, Go for example, and SPB lacks important features.
I had it for a while, when i was using Win Mobile. I can`t see any significant difference between the windows and android version, so i can confirm that it is a lot eye candy and not so practical. In my opinion, the best shell is the original shell!

Quick question:
Every time I open the app drawer in SPB Shell 3D, it starts at the top of the screen.
Now, I have a lot of apps, and if I want to open some at the bottom of my list, I have to scroll all the way down every time.
Is there any way to make Shell's launcher "remember" the position of the last opened app and start from there, instead of making me scroll all the way from the beginning?
SPB Shell is bad for ZTE
thank you very much for your work friend.

Who would prefer Sense on the ET4G instead of TW?

I love the ET4G. I came from the 3D and as much as I hated the problems with the signal on that phone I liked Sense better.
Which would you prefer?
I love my EVO but I actually despise Sense. I think HTC has done a very thorough job of creating an identifying UI and I can see why some like it, but I can't stand the bloated pretense it harbors. IMO.

I am one of the few who likes HTC Sense. TW is a nice change.. something different.
No way. Hate sense. "touchwiz" is just a launcher. We are as close to bone stock as we could be without being totally bone stock and I love it.
To each his own, of course.

coming from the OG Evo, i really like touchwiz 4.0 over any version of sense i was running - tops 2.1

Nexus is always stock Android.
prefer the look of sense but like the fuctionality of tw4
Give me a pure AOSP with adw ex anyday over sense/blurr/tw
They all have great little functions but when it comes down to it all of them have something I hate
Id choose tw over sense if a gun was to my head and I couldnt ever get pure aosp

Really only miss my Evo 3D lockscreen.
Aosp is boring as hell. I use LauncherPro.
From what I've seen Ice Cream Sandwich will be something worth jumping to.
ICS launcher is already in XDA

I keep hearing this sentiment echoed. Is touchwiz any deeper than a launcher? I don't see any evidence of that. Sure, there are a few Samsung customizations here and there. Device specific options like the Screen mode, etc. Then there is the camera.apk and dialer.apk which is often different from phone to phone. But aside from that touchwiz seems to be just a launcher.
Sense, on the other hand, has it's hooks way deep down in the OS and at times probably in the hardware as well.
I haven't rooted yet, I've been busy, but I will tonight and I'm going to try to yank out touchwiz completely and make it as 'stock' as possible...something tells me that is going to be very easy.
All that said I've gotta admit Touchwiz is nowhere near the abomination that the Sense loving HTC crowd has always made it out to be. Sure, the icons are kinda goofy and the stock homescreen configuration (especially the main screen and wallpaper) is just embarrasing. But that can all be fixed with 10 minutes of no-root-required changes. It's fast, it's straight forward, it's light weight. It just looks like a mildly modified form of the stock launcher. I don't understand what the hate is, but, I also don't see how it is anything more than a launcher with native widgets...there are tons of those out there.
...I've always hated Sense....
I like TW because they aren't trying to do too much. I prefer it over Sense, but just by a little bit. I've gone back to Launcher Pro+ though. I am experiencing a little stutter at the start of switching homescreens however, but it's not horrible. I have widgets on every page which is causing this, but I know it's not the phone, but the OS.

Not sure what problems he's having with launcherpro onEK02, it's running fine on mine but I could swear the options for themes had more than just a selection for what icons to use - which doesn't work. I can manually change them on the home screen though. Other than that everything is perfect.
I highly doubt development for launcherpro has stopped so the "just use go launcher" statement is a bit much. I've used it and love it but the general consensus is it drains the battery pretty quick. Other than that it's great but most people like to get that extra edge on battery life.
Development on LPP has been dead for almost a year. Users are pretty disappointed, and some flat out upset, judging by the hundreds of posts at the dev's last update feed (about gmail notifications being broken).
I have yet to make the jump because the paid version suits me so well, a bit better thsn GO/ADW.
With that said what problems are you experiencing with LPP and ek02? I'm running this without issues.
Launcher Pro has always worked well for me. I picked up ADW on the 10¢ sale, but haven't played with it much yet. But, my question is what problems everyone is having with Launcher Pro. I've used it for years across all my devices, including a Nook Color and it has always been great.

First Android phone that I've preferred stock launcher...

As title states...every Android I've had (and I've had a bunch), first thing I do is install Nova Launcher. I did that with my Note 2 immediately and kept it that way for a couple days without ever playing with touchwiz. However, a few days ago I figured I'd give TW a try and found that I actually prefer it to Nova! I was shocked, but pleased nonetheless. I find it (for the first time) every bit as smooth as Nova and I like the idea of Pagebuddy and the s pen utility icons that pop up in the notification tray. I have also found that the stock launcher seems to use less system resources than Nova...at least from what I can see by available ram.
Anyone else experience the above, or have I lost my mind?...haha

My exact same experience from nova prime to the default launcher. Having the S calendar widgets is a bonus too

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm still using Touchmywiz after a full two weeks now. that's amazing. Me changing themes all the time with Go Launcher or Nova got boring...every theme had at least one ICON or something I didn't like to sticking with stock launcher is kind of a nice. Especially since it's so smooth.

Every carrier or OEM that tries to add to the Android experience should be forced to spend time for crimes against humanity.
As soon as mine gets here on Tuesday: Root and flash to the closest thing to AOSP.

I certainly have. I just don't own one yet. Had a day on the Verizon one yesterday. Used the T-Mobile for a few hours the day before. My personal AT&T one is coming in the mail. And my original Note is running CM10.
I have to agree, the TW launcher and Note 2 software are spot on. I love CM/AOSP but the stock rom is going to give CM/AOSP a run for the money. Now, if CM/AOSP can integrate the S-Pen features (note, memo, calendar and gestures) then will definitely be moving over, but for now stock (with root) is staying put. Well done Samsung!
Keeping in mind we are all sharing opinions and everyone is very velcome to voice there own. Mine is a torn one. Im very aware of the sweetness custom launchers and roms offer. My conflict is the TW launcher has so much proprietary and necessary fuction in direct relation to the phones core features I feel I woild be missing out on some potential with anything else loaded. I have been useing a modified TW launcher since day one and feel its the best experience. Considering all I have done is removed all bloat and added all the features everyone else has. Then wave around the middle finger to whomever is responsible for ATT borking it in the first place.
As its been mentioned before. If a CM or other shows up with all the TW apps and SPen compatible I would dive right in. Considering Samsung had a good lockdown on anything document related to the chipset I dont see that hapening anytime soon. The CM team has already stated they are not happy about samsungs lockdown and have suggested they might drop it all together to focus on other phones. :banghead:

Wow. First I've seen of CM thinking of dropping support. I might just return the Note and not even open it then. Where is the best place to go for CM news?
Stock was great and all, but this is the first phone i actually ran a different launcher on it instead of stock. I was just way too annoyed about the icon size and the space between them. Got nova launcher to fix that.

Says the brainwashed "AOSP OR NOTHING IT PWNZ0RZ" Nazi. Seriously of you're gonna load CM and ultimately kill one of the 3 main selling points (spen) why the hell would you even consider the note 2? Seems like the Droid DNA, where running CM/AOSP wouldn't cost you a single feature, would be a MUCH better choice for you.
As for CM: drop the Note 2. I don't care as ill never use it. All CM does to the note 2 is remove features. Want a "stock" look? Get apex or Nova launcher. Looks like CM and still gives you full spen support.
The note 2 is *****ing fast. It has killer battery life. Those were two main selling points of flashing cm/aosp. What do you gain by flashing cm/aosp? You lose features and can almost exactly replicate the look via a launcher. Its simply not needed on the note 2.

You lost me when you wrote the words “feature" and “S-Pen". I'm also really not keen on being compared to a Nazi.
Obviously, this can get into another pointless forum thread where we waste time and effort and energy posting back and forth. The OP asked a question and I answered with my opinion. You are certainly entitled to yours. And good for you, I'm glad it works for you. I'll move along.
Totally agree, bone stock here. Not even rooted. Haven't found a need to. The device is aces. Samsung nailed it.

The main reason I flashed a ROM was multi-view. Once the AT&T version gets the multi-view I will probably jump to a rooted stock ROM. The other thing I would miss on stock is the ability to choose the notification toggles.
I am running Nova just because I like a tighter icon layout. Right now I'm on 5x8 (including the dock). Samsung loves adding in little features, I wonder why choosing more layouts wasn't one of the things they added to such a large phone.
I loved AOKP on the S II. Sorely missed a stable build with decent battery life on the One X. But, the Note is a wholly different stock experience.
I chose the Note for the TouchWiz stuff and S-Pen. It really isn't that much bigger than the S III (my coworkers S III + case is bigger than my naked Note). I knew I wanted stuff like smart stay and smart alert. All the stuff I would lose on AOSP bases. Even multi view is coming to TouchWiz JB update to the S II. Samsung has this software down, really brought their A-Game. If I stretch I can only think of two things I would have wanted stock: more freedom in row/column in the launcher, and ability to select and order the notification toggles. Nothing like the laundry list I can come up with about Sense 4+.

Rather confusing launcher, I think I will try it out again and try to get the Chrome theme on it, but honestly wasn't impressed.

Congrats guys, very innovative. More innovative than apple and Samsung all together
Gotcha, now after watching the tutorial video I see the potential this launcher has. Great work!

Its alot closer to SSL Launcher but in a clean more user friendly interface. Can't wait for it to be stable now. I put the Chrome theme on it that was shared earlier and its sick! Trying to replicate the Chrome theme on other launchers like Apex and Nova using Multi-Live Wallpaper and its becoming even more tedious. This makes things alot easier when creating a theme for mycolorscreen.
Corrupt colors and textures.. I was seeing alpha channel instead with some textures.
