EK02 update makes 4g connection worse - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I finally got the EK02 update this morning, so this is going to be the first full day of use out of it. So far I'm not impressed and want to maybe even go back to the original version.
My 4g radio which normally is connected throughout my workday appears to be disconnecting. If i turn off and back on 4g, it will reconnect with out any issues. Wasn't the idea of this update to strengthen the radios?

Made mine 100% better than before !!!

No 4G issues here with disconnects after update. And still get up to 10-15Mbps.

try updating to EL13 I had the same problem EK02 made my 3g & 4g slower where EL13 fixed that i'm getting 900kbps 3g 9-13mbps 4g where yesterday my 3g was 177kbps 4g was 2200mbps.

[Q] 4G LTE connection

I can get 4G reception at my home but it occasionally drops. My wife has a 4G Xoom that never loses connection. I was rooted and running 4.0.4 radios which seemed to help the reception somewhat, but would still lose connection from time to time. I went back to 4.0.2 unrooted and woke up this morning with no connections (had to reboot to get it to connect). 3G works fine unrooted and rooted.
I am about to contact Verizon but am afraid I will be one of those who goes through 9 different phones.
Is there anything else I should try before contacting Verizon? The support on here is much better so that's why I asked here first.

[Q] LG8 Connectivity Issues?

Some basic info: Sprint SGS3; rooted, manually updated to LG8. Otherwise, stock.
Since then, I've noticed that my phone doesn't "hold on" to 4G as well as it did pre root and update. For example, the 4G icon will be next to the signal strength in my status bar then it will disappear, there will just be signal strength with no connection indicator then either 3G or 4G will appear. I don't ever remember this happening before root/update. I haven't flashed anything else on the phone, and the main reason I rooted in the first place was so I could easily tether.
Has anyone else had this same issue?
Its funny that the LG8 update was supposed to help users that were having LTE connectivity issues... this happens to me on occasion too. i would venture to say that a combination of LTE still being in early development and coverage being spotty at times even in areas where u may have gotten full coverage at one point plus the "Connection Optimizer" that often jacks with ur data connection switching between wifi, 3g and 4g(LTE)... try doing a ##72786# to reactivate ur phone on the network... this will automatically re-associate ur data profile with the network and update prl info as well...
+1 I have the same issue

Thanks for the reply. I'll try the ##72786# and report back with results.
You make a fair point about LTE still getting off the ground, but I will say that pre-root/update, my phone held 4G consistently. Whatever the issue is, hopefully it will sort itself out soon, or enough people will have the same issue that it spurs some action on Sprint's side.
I'm in Houston, FWIW.
Edit/Update: ##72786# seemed to do the trick. HOWEVER, about 15 minutes ago, I attempted to turn on WiFi Tether. My laptop connected with no issues, but about 5 minutes into it, neither the 4G nor the 3G icons appeared next to the signal strength meter. ##72786#'d again, just to see if it made a difference, updated PRL and Profile. Things are holding steady so far, but we'll see how long this lasts.
I'll try to update later in the day.

Glad to see it worked. This is by no means a permanent fix. As u flash different roms thru out ur phones life span its a good idea to run this code every so often as flashing can overtime degrade baseband performance as those files dont get replaced with a rom but different roms interact with those files depending on the tweaks made at software level...

I can't wait either. For those that have 4G i'm curious as to what the battery life is like and how much faster the network is on the SG3.

The issues cropped up again throughout the day, though not as frequently. I made a post in a reddit subforum and someone there suggested I flash new radios. Any idea on whether that would work, and if so, where/how/what?

It won't, till Sprint gets their network done. I've been back and forth on all radios, no difference IMO.

I am up here in Sugar Hill. Sprint Map shows you deep in LTEville. I worked in Tucker last year when a co-worker got a Verizon Tunderbolt. His 4G was screaming. He was getting 40+ down!
But the map also shows Cumming in LTE land so I drove over there just to see what LTE looked like and I saw the icon flicker on for about 30 sec. but it never really was there.

Super slow Wimax Problems in NYC with ICS

Hi guys,
Sorry to be turning to the forums, but I have no where else to turn. I was hoping I could find a solution here from someone (or a group) of you guys that might be having the same problem. I live and work in lower manhattan, and I have the Sprint Epic 4G touch. I upgraded to ICS manually the day the update came out and people gave directions on how to manually update. Ever since I've upgraded, I've had SUPER slow speeds with 4G. 3G works fine, but for some reason, I cannot get download speeds on my E4GT to get above 43 kbps on the speedtest.net app.
And it's not just there, on anything that requires an internet connection, it does NOT get above 43kbps. Typically it's 2-7 kbps. I mean this is abysmal. When I use 3G it's usually pretty decent (expected 3G speeds). I've gone to the sprint store and the techs there keep telling me that they haven't heard anything in regards to this. And when I try to prove it to them, it always shows regular 4G speeds of about 4-8Mbps. But I mean it's obviously going to be fast, I mean they have a tower right there in the store or above it.
Whenever I'm near a Sprint tower, the speeds are fine. But if I'm 2-3 blocks away, speeds go down to 2-7kbps. It's so frustrating.
I've done a PRL update, Profile Update. Samsung software update, and update firmware in the System Updates section in system settings. I've been updating all these settings countless times over the past month, and I'm still getting the same speeds on 4G.
It's so bad, I'm seriously thinking of reverting back to Gingerbread (EL29) just in the hopes that it fixes the problem. I initially had problems with the ICS update (overheating, batter running out in 2-3 hours, apps crashing, things just all messed up), so what I did then was a factory reset from the System Settings section and it fixed 'some' of the problems. Battery life is still awful, but its at least fixed other issues. But the 4G part is still horrible! It's been that way since I upgraded to ICS manually.
I searched the forum and haven't really seen people reporting the same thing. It's sporadic, but I was hoping maybe someone on here would have a solution or an idea of what might be causing the problem.
In case you need to know, I'm currently on
Model Number: SPH-D710
Android Version: 4.0.4 (Stock ICS update OTA except manually updated)
Baseband version: S: D710.10 S.FF18
Kernel version: [email protected] #3
Build number: IMM761I.FF18
Hardware version: D710.10
If anyone out there has a solution, please let me know. Or any advice. I appreciate anything you guys can offer. Please let me know. If you need to know anything else, please let me know... I'll write back quickly. If anyone else is having any of these problems, please let me know too. It would be nice to know that I'm not the only one having these problems.
Thank you so much everyone. Hope your having a great day.

It's possible that your phone doesn't play nice with FF18 modem. Every phone reacts different to different modems, so its possible that EL29 was just the modem for your particular phone. From what I gather you aren't rooted, this however, would be your only way to install a custom modem of your choice.
I have the same issue revert back to gingerbread if you want data speeds back. Ive sone evrything in the book to try to fix this and nothing worked.

No need to be rooted to flash a modem with odin, PM me if you need some info.
You can try flashing different modem versions and find out which one work the best for you
You need to try a new modem. On FC24, I have gotten 12+mbps on 4g at work. I used EL29 for a few days and I couldn't get past 2 mbps in the same spot.

Im also in NY and yesterday i tried a few different modems as well as Calk's ICS and Blue Kuban and i was only getting about 1 kbps down. No matter what modem i tried. I went back to Calk GB 3.0 on FG31 and that gave me the best 4g. Im also a manager at RadioShack and i've notice that the 3g on GS3 is alot slower than the 3g on my e4gt...so maybe it does have something to do with ICS.
Gingerbread good.
Ics no good. Bad. Crappy.

I also work downtown but I am close to the Seaport. I have always had spotty and inconsistent 4G in my office but when I go outside it gets very good. I am running the latest FG20 Boost modem and it was working well (even in my office) up until there was a bad storm a few weeks ago, I think a 4G tower was affected. That day both my 3G and 4G service went down at my desk, 3G came back a little later but 4G has never been the same.
Trying some speed tests at my desk now on 4G and I am only getting up to 1111kbps but it is more around 600. 3G speeds are bad today as well, I usually get between 200 to 300 and only getting like 50 today.
Update: Just updated to the FG31 modem and my 4G speeds are still the same but my 3G speeds got better while sitting at my desk today. There has to be a 4G tower problem around the downtown NYC area because I never had speeds this slow before.

Super Slow Data Speeds (incl. wifi)

I have running the Blazer ROM 1.7 and for some reason all my speeds are crawling slow. This includes 3g, 4g, and wifi. I've tried multiple wifi spots that are faster on other devices. Do I need to update my radio's or what options do I have to help the speed?
I hate to try and unroot and go back to stock.
It could be Sprint working on your area, tower maintenance, or an outage in your area. I get good speeds on Blazer v1.7 so it's definitely not the ROM.
EDIT: Try reflashing the LG8 modem, maybe something's up with the currently installed modem?
Try a bunch of different radios. You were probably on an old radio and updating to the LG8 radio included with Blazer ROM ****ed you up. I recommend trying 1 radio a day and doing multiple signal (dB) and speed tests throughout the day. Use the one that gives the best results.

And its not sprint, its been occurring for weeks and wifi is also affected
Also you could try to reflash rom.

I'm having the problem also. I just got mine 2 days ago, but side by side with the wifes Evo LTE she's getting 18 mbps while I get 9 mbps on WiFi. We are both stock. She's not into the rooting, and mine is only days old so I'm getting there

When WiMax signal drops, my whole data connection goes away for about 10 seconds.

Hello,
I am currently running CM7 nightly sept 30th. Whenever I am in a 4G(WiMax) area i can connect, albeit slower than I would like, but once I move around a little and the signal degrades I have noticed that when the signal quality reaches a certain point the 4G connection drops, and when that happens my 3g connection goes out. All i am left with are my signal bars or my signal level in dbm (depending on which i have it set up for that day).
However, today I was feeling like I wanted to tinker with my phone a bit. SO i flashed back to mikg 3.11. And noticed that my 4G signal never dropped once, where usually it will drop 1-2 times on my drive home. I also noticed when it finally did (after I passed the last exit with 4g in the area) that my 4G immediately was ready for the handoff and my data was working fine, as if nothing had happened.
SO my main question would be: Is that a known issue? Is it a CM7 issue? AOSP issue?
I did upgrade my radio to 2.15.00.12.19 after I flashed MikG 3.11. But I have had that same radio installed along with CM7 and had the same issue, so I dont think its that. But I did the usual profile and PRL updates so maybe that is the reason.
I will be flashing back to CM7 shortly, however I wont be able to update you guys until either tomorrow on my drive to work, or tomorrow on my drive home.
Any input or help is appreciated.
Thanks
Update: using cm7, it dropped once after having full bars. while sitting still haha.
The rest of the drive home it didn't drop. Speeds were slower than mikg, but still never lost data.
Looks like radio update helped. Because when I was out of range of wimax it shifted to 3g flawlessly.

Wimax and 3G are two separate radios and they don't always trade off correctly because they don't run at the same time. Same thing with 1x and 3g. Plus Wimax is spotty and not reliable, hence the switch to LTE.
