Wimax - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I NEVER use 4G, can I freeze all of the WiMax stuff without causing any problems? I am trying to find ways to stop so much usage by Android system. Usually showing about 80-90 percent.

That is accurate. Like Windows all apps running on your phone go through Android system. It is the OS. In Froyo it was incorrectly pushed to the display percentage. If you have light usage and after about 12 hours your percentage should be between 60 to 70 percent. Freezing WiMax won't do anything since they only run if you turn on 4G.

Thanks Kenny,
Most times I am in the 80's, so when I saw things like WiMax line test, and mode change and Net test, i was wondering if those were things running, even though I never even bother with 4G. but i guess it makes sense that if I am not turning 4G on, ther services most likely are not causing any issues...i guess i will keep digging!

What is showing up for the most time in Betterbatterystats?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

If you want, you can run CM7. It doesnt have any 4G stuff in it, and I hear typical android system usage is in the 20%'s.

That's the thing. Everything is negligible. Under 1%. But my awake time is almost 50%. When screen on time is about 17%.

With CPU Spy how much deep sleep does your phone get? Reboot, put it down for 30 minutes. Open it and check CPUSpy. You should have most of that as deep sleep. Of course this is off charger. Charging keeps phone awake at 100 Mhz.

911 is fixed, before a new build is posted Decad3nce needs to be home(school/work) as this is a serious matter, so it'd be best for him to handle it because his name is on it, as you can understand. mkasick found out what the issue was and fixed it, the Fascinate has it as well, the fix is for CDMA phones....the Vibrant might actually be f*cked... UberPinguin, mkasick, and noobnl did it yesterday though but called 911 today through proper means and verified that it works. And pushed the fix upstream to official CM so that it can be included in.

Q: Evo battery overheating on regular basis

Ok so I'm running cyanogen mod nightlies(September update) coupled with tiamat 4.0.7 + SBC. My battery regularly overheard while charging or when my screen stays on or using certain apps suck as angry birds, music, gameboid, snesoid, etc. Any ideas why it may be doing this and how it could be fixed? I've also run the cyanogen kernel and the regular 4.0.7 tiamat kernel. I've run decks roms, synergy equipped with the freedom kernels, and salvage-mod. Every configuration I use, I have the same problem. My battery hasn't been exposed to the extreme heat of the summer and its always charging in a cool place. I'm using the original HTC charger that came with the phone. Help would definitely be appreciated because its killing my battery. Thanks guys.

So it does it, even when it's not on the charger?
You may have a bad battery or a malfunctioning phone.
It does this all the time. Right now spare parts says its at 43.8°C but before i plugged it up i left it off for 20 mins and turned it on and it was at the regular 36°C. I'm hoping its not the phone. And this was a replacement battery I received from the sprint store after my last battery drained within 2 hrs on a daily basis. I've tried calibration and it doesn't help. Battery life is slowly degrading as well.

Try a diffrent no-sbc kernel.

Well it sounds like either the replacement battery is bad, the charger is bad [causing the battery to be bad] or the phone itself has a problem.
Could be the charger. Half the time it registers as a USB charger but its the AC outlet charger and when it does switch over to AC it becomes even more prone to overheating. I know that when the battery overheats it can cause internal damage to the phone if it gets hot enough. Hope it hasn't done that yet.

On my gfs epic she's running aokp build 4 She has had the battery since the phone first came out.. She routinely leaves it on the charger every night.. everything is turned off except for wifi in the settings and gtalk has been signed out off and I have tried everything to conserve battery from rootdim which didn't do anything to build.prop tweaks in omairs thread.. It is probably time to get yourself the SGS2's 1800mah battery. It fits in our original case, snug, but fits.
Before getting the battery, odin back to FC09, boot up and synch PRL and profile. Then odin CWM and flash the current AOKP build for Jelly Bean. Only restore SMS and/or call log from backups if you must. Doing those steps will ensure you have a clean install and anything affecting your battery will either be a rogue application or the battery itself.
Gotta be careful with the Gs2 battery. The Tmobile version doesn't fit our phone. I would play it safe and get the epic touch battery.

Need battery tips for 6+ hrs screen time

Hi guys using wicked with trinity 7b. See a few people posting 2 days on one charge and over 6 hours screen time. Would like to know how as i cannot get anywhere near that. I use system tuner, odex my Rom and kill my tasks whenever possible. I use lh2 modem.
Anyone with huge battery time please help us out here. I'm sure many of us would like some help. Also if you tweak your build.prop press share that.
Looking for details. I'm not a noob
sgs3 : wicked v6 Rom : uv : odexed : trinity
They are not using the stock battery. If you want battery like that, buy an extended battery. That is the only answer.
What I find most telling in many of these screen shots is that Device Idle and Cell Standby are almost always in the top.

Cell standby is actually lying. It was coded with a decimal in the wrong place and so it shows that it uses a lot more than it actually does. Purely cosmetic really, but can be annoying when testing battery issues.
Edit: many custom roms have corrected this btw.

Ya, I saw that before. There is a zip floating around here somewhere that moves it from .34 to 3.4 and fixes it. But you're right that most custom ROMs have this (Cell Standby) fixed.
I just mainly think that Device Idle even being in the top 3 or 4 is a very telling sign that the phone is not being used very much.
Install the easy battery saver app.
I hate to be the jerk... but OP has spammed every rom thread nearly bugging about screen time. Nowadays its hard to get 6+ hours of screen time. Maybe switch to an older, dumber phone with not as sexy as display and you will have better luck. Or carry a spare battery... or strategically place chargers in common spots.

I do all those things (-underclocking and undervolting), and more, because I don't need most of this on all the time, and my screen time is great. Plus, I bought a 4400mah extended battery & get 4-5 days on a single charge.

Has anyone noticed any increase reboots and shut downs? I've updated integer solar bit this is the only one that purports to do anything with how the phone works.

Totally normal.
Also, I haven't had a single crash. I'm running Lifeless ROM and haven't had an issues, but have noticed increased battery life.

So I'm running this app now and my data at work is faster than wifi and I'm on 3G so this is sad lol but I'm pretty sure the app keeps turning wifi on. :/

Tried it. It's pretty much worthless. Turns off wifi when away from your access points, which is cool. Otherwise, all it does is prevent your major apps from updating to a varying degree. It's better to just control this yourself in app settings and "Accounts and Sync" settings. I think the app was designed with people who don't have a clue about Android sync settings in mind. For the type of person who spends time reading Android forums, it's a waste of time. Sorry
If you do choose to use it, be aware that depending on the setting you or it chooses for Gmail, push notifications may not work.

The optimizer finds the best connection strength between wifi and cell.
This app controls the cpu.
Opps..my bad. So to correct my above statement in a nutshell... the optimizer just doesn't work as good as it does on other phones. Guess I should have read the article first instead of assuming.

Incorrect. This app has nothing to do with CPU. It automates turning on/off wifi, and blocks or reduces syncing for various major apps.
Thanks, Epic! Love this app for myself, and I tell customers at work about it now, they love that there is a trustworthy app that can save battery life

I've stopped using it as all it did was stop my syncing and turn Wi-Fi on and off. These are things that most users here control pretty well already.
