Advice Please :) Just tried revoked to root - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just ran revoked, I did not click yes to accept clockwork. I then clicked recovery and now my phone has the picture of a phone with a caution symbol - The power button doesn't work, whether I press it or hold it - same with VD+Powerbutton. It's been about 5 minutes so far, I'm fine with waiting - just would like to get some advice from a seasoned rooter I had my old EVO rooted but broke my phone and haven't bothered to root my new one until now.

I'm assuming the only way to power it down is pull the battery - but again, would rather get some advice - I know sometimes you just need to wait things out.
Thanks!

If you have gingerbread 2.3.3 don't use revoked. Use revolutionary

You just don't have a recovery just drop a recovery onto your SD card and rename it PC36IMG.zip and the bootloader will scan for it and accept it and you should be set ONLY DO THIS IF YOUR S-OFF

Also think you mean revolutionary and not unrevoked

Just read through the sticky and found that (Didn't realize it went past the first post)
Step 1 on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218386 says to download SuperUser - Is that the recovery? If so, I didn't rename it and I guess that would be the case.
All I've done so far is run revolutionary. Is it okay to pull my battery and reboot? And will I lose root/need to re-do revolutionary if I do that?
Thanks!

If you look in the evo 4g development section search amon RA and it will be in PC36IMG.zip that you flash in the bootloader. No superuser is what you will be flashing through the recovery once you have it setup. Should be okay to pull the battery

If your s-off you should be fine and you should have revolutionary on the top of the bootloader so you wouldn't have to use revolutionary again

Alright - Thank you for the help, looks like I have my original issue fixed! Now I just have another one though, if you all could be so helpful again
I *DO* have S-OFF; however I just downloaded ROM Manager and it's stating I'm not rooted: "You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "system/xbin/su".... "
Keep in mind, I'm still running my original setup and have not flashed any ROMs yet.
Any ideas?

You have to be rooted to flash roms. You can't just run them off the sdcard on this device

You'll be able to flash roms on your sdcard. Also to get that much space your going to have to have a highclass sdcard to use a2sd
Sent from my Warm 3.5 Evo using xda app
Evo4gnoob is right you will have tto run a2sd to get more space, the only way to get roms to run directly off the SD card is thru an app called bootmanager, and you will need a class 4 or higher card class 6 is the best option class 10 wont function at full capacity on an evo4g as its limited by hardware capabilities

Problem booting into CWM

I just recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Sprint) and I am having a hard time getting into the CWM recovery. Granted, the CWM recovery stays put, but getting into it is the problem. I hold down both volume buttons + power and my phone brings up "shell has been granted super user permissions" over and over.
The only way I can get into CWM is by installing ROM manager and selecting the option to boot into the recovery. I'm just afraid when something goes wrong and I need to go into recovery, I can't and basically screwed lol. If someone could give me some info or help me diagnose the problem I'd greatly appreciate it.

[Q] [10.1] [GT-P5210] Rooting?

Hi,
Is there anyone who managed to root his/her Tab 3 10.1 ?
I tried it several ways, but, no luck
I now have firmware version JDQ39.P5210XXUAMG6 and SuperSU installed (by rooting/flashing via Odin), it was a pre-rooted firmware. (Android version is 4.2.2.)
But the problem is, SuperSU wants to update the SU binary, or else it won't work. Then I can choose between CWM/TWRP or Normal recovery.
I've tried everything but it just doesn't work.
When I choose for Normal recovery, it just reboots into recovery and then doesn't do anything.
When I choose for CWM/TWRP recovery, it's the same problem.
I already have flashed the other recoveries and tried both options, for both recoveries, but, again, no luck
Oh and using Superuser instead of SuperSU, doesn't help either. It has the same problem.
Other superuser apps don't work, too.
Yes, almost forgot, enabling USB Debug Mode does not help, neither with flashing pre-rooted firmware again, with USB Debug Mode on.
Thanks in advance...

I followed this guide for root and recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432467
Only things to beware of:
uncheck the reboot option in odin and just hard power down the device after flashing the recovery.
Cwm only will use an external micro card (sees it as sdcard) so put the root zip there.
Vol up and down seem backwards to me.
Good luck. -- Bud

It worked by flashing/installing the root.zip through TWRM (verification disabled, else it failed).
So now I have root access, but, I encounter another problem... I can't update the SU binary...
When I try it through Superuser (that one with the green Android logo), it says the following:

I followed this guide for root and recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432467
Only things to beware of:
uncheck the reboot option in odin and just hard power down the device after flashing the recovery.
Cwm only will use an external micro card (sees it as sdcard) so put the root zip there.
Vol up and down seem backwards to me.
Good luck. -- Bud

Same worked for me without issue. I would go with factory reset(wipe everything if your having issues with SU) and then use the files from DutchDanny's thread.

Hello,
I just pulled my tab out of the box and when I turned wifi on it started downloading system update. In fact just finished downloading it. I'm wondering if I allow it to upgrade will I still be able to use Bindroid's root method. Anybody allow the upgrade then root? I have the att variant of galaxy s4 and i know there were a lot of people that got boned when they allowed the build upgrade before rooting because of the bootloader... I'm currently on MI8 build on my P5210. Under update info it just says size and "improved stability." I'm probably just paranoid from the s4 but just curious if there was any insight out there. Benzo I quoted you because I've seen your name a lot helping out.
Thanks!
no video in vudu or netflix after root via bindroid
Hi I rooted my gt-p5210 a coup,e of times thru bindroid. All works well, a little laggy but thats expected. Only problem ive found is that netflix and vudu both load all tbe way but neither will play the video its goes to video buffering then restarts the app. Any Ideas? Btw I used oden and cwm.

Excuse my ignorance here, but "laggy" ?
My rooted Tab3 doesn't seem to show any lag at all ?
Is it the general consensus that 'rooted' devices experience lag ?

Agree. Probably meant the recovery app (cwm or twrp) is laggy which it is. I would guess the chip is in a power saving mode under the recovery apps and no one has figured out how to fix this. -- Bud

How to Unroot HTC one M8 using a Mac

I am looking to unroot my HTC one M8. I followed tutorial from sakitech on YouTube to root the phone.
I am not sure if I am s on or s off, I am pretty sure part of the above process made be back up to mysd card using twrp or something like this. I have seen an option to fully unroot in SuperSu. I am in the UK and use Tmobile/EE network.
Is that all I would need to do? Or could someone provide step by step process using a Mac.
Thanking you in advance.
Hmm, I'm not sure what a mac is but maybe you could set it up to dualboot ubuntu and go from there?

First possibility is to perform the fully unroot in the SuperSu app and after this uninstall SuperSu.
Another Way is to download the unsupersu.zip and "install" it using a custom recovery. The script will then delete su.bin and all other su data.
To flash custom recovery you can simply install adb and fastboot on your Mac. I'm running it on a Mac myself and it works flawlessly, as OS X is programmed on a Linux base.
And yes you can dual boot a Mac with OS X and Windows or Linux. I had my MacBook even set up to tripple boot OS X, Windows 7 and Linux Mint

So if the fully unroot option within supersu works... Will it still require the custom recovery as well?

No if it works you can just go Info Play Store and uninstall the SuperSu app as well to be unrooted..

What about exposed installer being installed? I haven't installed any custom Rom at any time as all I wanted to get was pop-up notifications. But I didn't realise so many apps would detect the rooting so would not work. That's why I want to return it to normal. Will the above lock that boot loader thing as well?

What about APPs like RootCloak. Would try to use this first to cloak the root access to those APPs which won't work if the phone ist rooted. There is an XDA Support thread for this App as well.
As if you uninstall root you can right away uninstall xposed, as it won't work without root.
There is a free Heads-Up APP on Play Store. Just if you would like L like notifications on your One. without root. You can define which APPs are allowed to display those notifications and which are not as well.

Believe me it is.
But to be absolutely correct I would have had to write
Linux is based from Minix a type of UNIX.
Mac OSX is based from BSD, which is UNIX.
So they are in fact very familiar. Had to analyse it in a computational science lecture at university . But wrong forum and thread to discuss this topic.

Ok. This is where I am. I opted for the complete unroot within SuperSu app. All looked fine. Deleted/uninstalled then sense 6 toolbox and the xposure app. The OTA update then popped up again after the phone rebooted itself. I. Selected the OTA it downloaded and upon installing. On rebooting the phone...it goes to Team Win Recovery Project v2.7.1.0 with the options to install, Wipe Backup Restore Mount Settings Advanced and Reboot. I am Stuck now not sure what to do. can anyone help me to get the phone back to how it was before rooting.

You have to flash the stock recovery first, as OTA doesn't work wit a custom revocery such as TWRP.

Please run the
fastboot getvar all
in bootloader and tell me which version-main is displayed.. If no number is shown tell me the Software-Number shown in the settings menu in Software-Information as you need a corresponding stock recovery.

Already guessed that the OS entry is empty. It's a known Bug with some of the TWRP versions at the moment.
What is written if you got to settings > about phone > software information > software number?
Just asking to find out which stock recovery you really need.

Yes it is. So you have to download and flash stock recovery. 1.54.401.10. You can download it from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
After you downloaded it copy the recovery.img to adb folder and
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Reboot phone, download OTA and you good to go and install it.

Just edited my post above, with it
On a Mac you maybe have to type it the following way (but first try as I wrote above):
./adb reboot bootloader
./fastboot reboot-bootloader
./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Edit: Oh man I forgot to ask. Do you have adb and fastboot installed on you Mac?
