Hi guys i want to know if there is a chance to secure my Mirco SD on my Arc or Android device like blackberry ?
cause in blackberry when i put security on all the new files that going to install in my SD card will be encrypted so if you put my SD card in another phone it will ask for a password and if you put it in your pc you will see encrypted files that can't be read at your computer..
so is there a chance to see something like that on Xperia Arc or Any Android device?? is there an App for that or a way to make that happen ?

Hi guys,
I've been using my dhd with a micro sd samsung 32gb for five months with no problem ...
Yesterday (in vacation in mexico)out of nowhere the card stopped working, i'm having a message saying that the card is damaged, and proposing me to format it .... i have like 10 gb of data in it ... my question is : is there a way to recuperate the data ?
i have gingerbread 2.3.3
build 2.50.405.2
thanks for your help
If you can survive without it until you get back dont format it and have a look if your pc can read it. You'll need another way of connecting it to your pc like a usb adapter. If your pc can read the sd card copy all of the data to your desktop, format the card and copy the data back. If your pc cant read the data you might need something like Recuva (Link) to scan the card and see if anything is recoverable. Hope you get your stuff back
thanks for the quick reply ...
i downloaded recuva, and will try to find an micro sd adaptor to check it on my laptop.
Search on ebay theyre dirt cheap, unless it would be faster to drive to a brick and mortar store.
I have two microSD cards:
- 1st one came with my SE Xperia Arc S, and has 8GB
- 2nd one came with Samsung Focus (Windows Phone7) and has 16GB
...And thats all I know about them.
I pulled out the second one from S.Focus, and tried to use it in Xperia Arc but the phone acts like there is no card inserted, also tried the other way, with 8GB from Sony in Samsung Focus, with the same result.
Do I miss something here? Is there a preparation needed or something like that?
You will need to format the card from within the phone to get the right file structure.
If you need the data back up to pc,format card, then re place the data back again.

Is there a possibility that Samsung's card is not compatible with Xperia and vice versa?
Tried to format it from within Xperia but that 16GB simply not detected, also format (prepare?) options are greyed out. Maybe would need to format it first on PC them move to Android hm.
If both are "Micro SD" cards, and looks the same(size and shape), then it should be "compatible". If it doesn't work, I reckon the card is damaged, and therefore can't be read by your phone.
From settings did you unmount the card to format?
If card not recognized by phone then only option is to format with pc. Make sure you format with right properties ie fat32.
If after this card still not recognized by phone then think it is damaged.

Try using a PC to copy the contents first (if you need to).
My cards are fine, and working well on their origin phones, the problem begins if I try to swap them.
Well gonna try again, with unmounting first.
Finaly managed to do it after some research....
I will write how I did it, so maybe someone else can find that usefull:
0. Dismounted 8GB card on android menu and pulled it out
1. Backed up data from 8GB android card on my pc
2. Unlocked Focus card with SD unlock (thru the Windows Phone app)
3. Formated 16GB Focus card with SD Formatter 3.1 (full format with erase) on PC
4. Copied saved data to 16GB card and inserted to android phone - everything fine and working well
5. Inserted 8GB card to Samsung Focus (I didnt do anything before, it still has Android data inside)
6. To make new sd card work had to reset the phone to factory but it had custom bootloader and I couldnt do it via hardware keys (soft method was off limits) so I flashed it to WP7 rogers rom (a carrier official rom)
7. Samsung Focus booted and 8GB android card were detectable and working fine.
Not that easy as it seems, cant we just swap the cards eh?
Glad to hear you got them working.....
If the cards are out the box then yes they clean plug straight in .but if used before on different Phones which run different os then the file structure on the card will be different..... So neither can read the other card.

Heya,
I just received my repaired HTC Desire Z and seems they reset it and removed (and stole -.-) my SD card.
Now until I have a new SD card, I already wanted to try and root it again. But is that possible without one? Guides say that I need one with enough capacity but can't I use my internal space with 1GB?

(Evil people.) No u can't, u don't have access to this memory, even when u connect the phone to ur computer, u will not get any popup. When u will try to push something into the phone though ADB, it will say something about sdcard not mounted.

Yes You need an SD card, it's the only area of memory that you can store files to be flashed/restored/backedup/etc as rooting/flashing etc is going to wipe that internal memory anyways depending on which action.
Did you least notify them that they did not provide back an SD card?
But yea you'll need to get a new SD card for you to do anything recovery/rooting/etc wise.
Well I'm quite sure that I won't get my SD card back since it was the HTC repair center and I guess it is a standard procedure to remove SIM card and sd card before resetting anything. I was warned by the shop with the sim card but guess he forgot to tell me about the sd card. Gonna try it but well...
Anyways, can I borrow an sd card from a friend, root my smartphone and give it back afterwards? Or are the files on the card required?
Nope you can use the borrowed sdcard and then not use an sd until you get one. Any files put on that sd are not of use for the most part after root. You can save them to your pc and download them to your sd when you get it if you'd like but you'll be fine with out them as well

or your phone's sd reader chip thingy is broken somehow? if your pc can detect it, but your phone cant, it is mostly related to be more a phone problem than a sd card one.
backup all of your data on your sd to your pc, and than format it.
put it in your phone again, and if it still doesn't connect, there might be a problem
