Hi,
This may sound really stupid but how the heck do you add your contact in text? I want to send a text but cant see where i can click to then pick the contact i want to send it to?

Hi,
Yeah i can see the "To" but if i click it or in the box it does nothing. Surely i dont have to start to type the name in and then click it?
Thats exatually what you do
select the box and start type the name of your contact
What else would you do ?

Every phone ive ever had including the galaxy s2 when you clicked in the to box it would bring uo your contact list letting you choose the contact.
Matt
You can also go to the contact list and choose to text
Go to Phone Icon > People tab, then click on the left box where their photo is.
Then on the right side of the phone number is an icon i can't describe, but that lets you text.
yeah many phones do that
But i would always search in the list anyway so for me this is a step less

What do you mean by two address books? You refer to contacts in dialer.apk and people.apk?

The phone application only lists your favorites and recent calls. (or your contacts with phone numbers if you don't have recent calls/favorites)
The people application lists your entire phonebook.
So it's not two address books.
They've always had this in all generations of Android.
Phone.apk and Contacts.apk -- nothing new, except now its a little bit more noticeable.

This is not true, my phone application has all my contacts.
LOL...
Contacts.apk is the People app, AND is the dialer.

one is from the SIM card
the other one is from your Google account
if you have additional Google accounts, you will see even more address book
if you have facebook installed, you will see yet another address book from facebook
if you have Yahoo mail/messenger installed, you will see yet another address book from yahoo
if you have Twitter installed, you will see yet another address book from Twitter
if you have Lnked In installed you will see... anyways you get the point, right?

Yes because I don't understand the difference between the two apps.
If both apps has all my contacts, why have two different apps?

They are shared contacts, not too different copies. So it's not two lists, just the same list viewed from different places.

In this case I don't see the usefulness of having two apps with the same list.
They are confusing and it seems a bad merge from gingerbred and honeycomb.
the people app is new and google is trying out something different i guess. the contacts app is the same as its always been on android. the people app i think is designed to try to merge all the social sites data together into each of your contacts etc. just ignore it if you dont use people or social.
I fully agree and understand,
My Dialer has a nice black smooth feel then my People has this ugly white look...
I use people because i have the button on my screen but then when i'm making calls i use the dialer and for a second or so it confuses me because of the different layout and style...
I think this is what he is trying to get at is why both of them why not just link people to the dial contacts instead of having a hole separate program...

Because the phone application is for calling people. It's the reason it only shows contacts with phone numbers, and when you tap on the favorites it automatically calls them. (phone call functions)
The people application is for information about people. When you tap the people it opens up the details of the people (email/chat/social/address/etc).
They have always been to seperate apps. phone.apk and contacts.apk.
The only difference now is that they debundled them appropriately.

actually it's not the same app. its two activities with different backgrounds, layouts, etc. they just contain similar information is all (i.e. your phone numbers).
contacts is the standard black background we've known for years.
people is white, totally different settings, etc.
so i have a question.. sorry im new to the new phone and still learning..
my mogul died.. but i had connected my new phone to my computer and it auto sync'd my contacts...
im missing a few people... so i emailed a bud to txt me his #..
he did... so i added him to concacts from there...from the txt..
well when i click on contacts on my main screen.. i search for him and he is not there..
anyone know what is going on.. well the real question..
what am i doing wrong or not doing right...
Please stop calling it "the droid", it's a galaxy s2 running android. Either you didn't save it or didn't enter it right in the contacts. You can also look and add contacts online through your Gmail accout.
Wow dude, relax with the hostility, he don't know yet
You probably saved the contact to your phone contacts. Make sure you save contacts to your Google contacts, let me know if you need anything else

Im sure if it was saved to phone it would still show up in searching.
Im leaning more to the contact didn't save.

it's possible, but my phone only showed google contacts out of the box. was a real head-scratcher for me for a few hours because I kept overlooking whether to check if 'phone' contacts were being displayed

Is your friend's name the same our similar to anyone else's name in your contacts?
Google will combine contacts that it thinks may be related. For example, if you have two contacts, one Bob Smith and one Robert Smith, they will end up combined.
Check any contacts that are similar to your friend's name. Edit the contact, and scroll through it and see if he's there. If he is, Tao the menu button and separate the contacts.
He will then become his own contact.

They only get merged on the phone. At least that's my experience.
If you start dialing the number in your dialer, does the name come up in the auto complete? Is it the correct name?

Hey guys,
Click the phone icon on the dock, and whilst on the phone tab....
Is yours full of google & facebook contacts that you don't want,
I also have multiple contacts for the same people,
How can I clear all these people, & show just my sim contacts.
I've managed to show just my sim contacts in the 'people' tab, but the 'phone' tab is really bothering me, I don't want all these people on my phone - nor do I want multiple contacts for the same person.
Any clues how I can fix this?

Mine was showing my Google+ contacts, so I went to the Peoples App and clicked on "Phonebook" in the top left and un-ticked the ones I didnt want to see.
You can link contacts. Can't quite remember how to do it manually but I'm surprised Sense hasn't already picked up that they are duplicates as it would normally automatically suggest that you link them

Hi, that's what I already did to fix the people tab.
I mean the phone tab, it's full of rubbish - google contacts, facebook contacts & even multiple contacts of my own contacts.
There must be a way to clear this up, I don't understand why it's like this...

Ah ok, I should have read your original post a bit better sorry. Mine is exactly like yours as well, but no idea how to filter that list, can't even see a menu or options button anywhere.

I know, I've tried to look for a menu sort list for the phone tab, I don't think one exists.
Stupid, as they have this filter list for the other tab.

Well, i bit the bullet and purchased a Galaxy Nexus to upgrade from my Touch Pro 2.
Problem is im having a hell of a time importing my contacts from the old phone to the new. I got them on the Sim ok, and they Show up on android, problem is it split all of the numbers so i have 2, 3 or 4 of the same contact. It splits Home, Mobile, and Work numbers into individual contacts instead of merging them like they should be. You would think it would be smart enough to see the same name and think "oh, these are all the same person."
is there any way to merge them without having to manually edit each individual contact?
If I recall correctly, try going into gmail on your PC and look for your contacts. There's an option to merge the ones that repeat.
Or use the customize option on the phone: people > menu > contacts to display

For trying to help? wtf is your deal man if you do not want help dont ask for it...
You can also turn of what contracts you want to be shown in the contact app, though my head says not to help due to attitude i believe in maybe you are just having a rough morning or something, go to contacts menu accounts viewable or accounts depending what your are running and you will be able to uncheck what you do not want to see
