Does anyone else get a really small reddish almost burgundy light by the camera? Not the main L.E.D.(on the right side of the phone) and when it turns on your phone is powered on, but you cant wake it. I know that cuz I had to power off my phone and the blue light (main L.E.D.) came on, then I pressed power button again and main blue L.E.D. came on and phone re-powered? I am at a loss?
I'm sorry, but I cannot make any sense of your post. Please try some punctuation or something to break it up a bit.
Not trying to be an ass, I just honestly can't understand it.
Yes I see it to in low light areas. Its always been there. Someone else had a post about this too
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
The faint red light is from the proximity censor. You will notice it most often when in a call that is not using a headset or speakerphone. It should only be on during the call.

We got two tilt 2's yesterday. First, MINE (ugh) makes a click sound when putting the tilting screen back to flat. Doesnt do it when moving the screen anywhere but just as it gets back to completly flat to the base. A little click or snap noise like a peice of plastic breakage. It keeps doing it every time. The other one doesnt do this.
Secondly, right after we got them and left, i noticed her led was blinking showing power was on. Mine wasnt blinking at all. I just checked and i dont get a blinking blue light with blue tooth enabled either. I am not able to check the other tilt 2, but i suspect hers would be blue if the blue tooth was enabled.
Im thinking about hard resetting. If that doesnt cure it, exchange? Problem is, they were the only 3 the store had and some one else took the other as we did our thing.
I don't know about your other problems, but my phone also makes that noise when closing the screen flat. It doesnt really bother me that much so I don't plan on returning it unless it becomes worse.
How about the Tilted screen? when you touch it tilted, or shake it slightly when tilted, does the screen wobble? I got mine yesterday, and if I hold it at an angle to straight in my hand, when I touch the screen it 'plays' back and forth 3-4 degrees... very annoying
And yes, it clicks too when closed flat...
Me thinks it goes back for another unit.... how do your units behave? Is the screen firm when tilted, or does it wobble?
I've never gotten a blinking light with power on any HTC phones.
Maybe it's a voicemail indicator?
I haven't learned the ins and outs of the LEDs yet. I know with EnergyROM installed I don't see a Bluetooth blinkenlight when BT is on, but currently I'm set as not discoverable and not paired with anything.
duplicate... where's the delete?
This is bothering me too. Lights don't do anything unless it is connected to a charger. My old Tilt would at least flash to let you know you had a signal (and it was on). I also don't get a flash when the GPS is active like I did with the Tilt, nor WiFi. If you go to the notifications section, there are "flash light for ..." options for things like new txt msgs, new voicemail, missed call, etc., but they can't be enabled: they are all grayed out. Someone had a cab out for the old Tilt that would let you customize the behavior of the lights, but I don't think I ever tried it.
As far as the click, mine clicks too, but it doesn't bother me. I'm just glad my screen doesn't wobble (rotate) back and forth like the demo unit in the store did.
We have 4 old tilts and every single one the lights work. If the phone is on, left led blinks every 30 seconds or so indicating power or signal (not sure). Turn on wifi right led flashes (yellow?) every 30 seconds or so, and enable blue tooth and right led blinks blue.
Now with the tilt 2's
Checked my wifes phone. No blinking at all. Then we noticed a left flash when there was an unread anything, think it was text at the time. Both have solid left led for charging.
I had hard reset my phone for nothing, i guess.
Went to att this morning. He was gonna get me another one today or tomorrow. Checked my wifes phone and came to realize the leds just arent doing what i expected them to do.
The tilting back to flat and snapping sound.......
He had a demo and it was doing it to. Ok, so maybe my wifes phone is messed up cause hers aint doing it. He is gonna call me when they get another one in tomorrow and tell me what tht one does ..... off to the mall
Go to att in the mall, find another tilt 2 on display. It makes the snap sound too.
NOW i am thinking my wifes phone isnt right cause all the rest are making that noise. And if you go real real slow, it feels like it is supposed to do that. Indicates that it is closed? I DONT KNOW
To me it almost feels like the hinges are magnetic, but that sounds strange and unlikely.

Hello there... just to let you know... clicking sound is completely normal... (mine as well as 3 other I have got in my hands... all do the clicking... so not to worry... (your wife's tilt 2 not doing click... yeap... that's the one with issues not yours) about led... I have Original Tilt and now Tilt 2... just to confirm again... yes... original Tilt flashes left light about every 15 sec... while new Tilt 2 flashes only on new email/text/mms
I wonder if there is a way to remap the blinking lights via registry in order to set them like Original Tilt...
RTFM & search. there is only a green & orange LED. there is no blinking lights for bluetooth/wifi/cell phone signal. there is nothing wrong with your phone. The light only blinks for whatever you set in the Sounds & Notification settings, low battery, & charging.
as for the clicking when you go back to flat: my Tmo TP2 has done this since day 1 as did the first one i had. I just think of it as a auditory confirmation that the screen is back to where it's supposed to be.

Too bad that's grayed out so we can't set them. Mine appears to be set to only blink for five minutes. That's fine if I happen to look at the phone within five minutes of the event.

Any fix for this? Ideally I would want to see if I have missed event past the 5 minute cutoff... I wonder if there is a registry setting. any help??
TIA.
LEDs
Page 26 of my Manual says;
* The Notification LED shows a:
*Flashing green light when there are new SMS, MMS or email messages, missed calls, or reminders.
*Solid green light when the device is connected to the power adapter or a computer and the battery is fully charged.
*Solid amber light when the battery is being charged.
*Flashing amber light when the remaining battery level reaches below 10%.
Hope that helps.
I don't think the clicking noise when the screen seats in the flat position is due to plastic flex. It sounds metallic to me -- as though one of the components of the metal hinge is seating into another -- i.e. sort of a mechanical clickstop when the flat position is reached.
The screen wobble in tilted position is due to the continuously variable tilt angle feature. Doesn't bother me, as long as it doesn't get so loose with wear that the screen doesn't maintain a set angle. The alternatives would be either fixed tilt positions (click stops) instead of a continuously variable tilt; or making the hinge so tight that it would be a pain to tilt it.
so i think one of my LED lights died... b/c when i turn on my flashlight only one of them turns one... and the one that stays on seem to flicker sometimes... anyone know anything about this?
so update:... apparently the led's can become loose if you have this problem also, press down onthe leds with a little bit of force and it will start working perfectly again
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-HTC-Evo-4G-Dual-LED-Flash/3066/4
if u look the design is sorta flawwed, the connection can become bad over time.. since its only pressure
hey so has anyone else had this problem? it happened again and i had to push on the LED to get it to turn on again...
Why not just try and flash it back to stock (or brick it lol) and warranty it?

i mean im just curious on the problem, since it seems like a design flaw, i like mine no screen seperations and cracked power button so far... and novatek screen, i love my evo i dont feel like trading it for one that is diff, but i dunno i might end up having to ... if i barely push it it just turns back on... and so far it hasnt happened agian...
The whole time I had my original EVO 0002 version, the backlight for the 4 round hardware buttons at the bottom of the screen, stayed lit whenever my screen was on, period. Now that I had to get a 0003 replacement device, it seems like either HTC changed something or my replacement is borked. Now the 4 buttons seem to light sometimes and sometimes not. I can't tell if there is some kind of deliberate pattern, or if it is tied to the sensor for adjusting the display brightness, or if its just broke. How is the backlight supposed to work on this version?
Thanks
my 0003 does the same thing, wish I could just keep them off.
Interesting, I noticed the other day that mine would light up even with then screen off so i wiped cache and dalvik. This fixed that issue but from your post I noticed mine does the same thing... Are you running a custom kernel?
Edit: I went into a dark room and turned my screen on probably 20+ times and they lit up every time. So my guess would be that it has to do with the brightness sensor. When its bright in the room its probably set up to where they are not supposed to come on.
Yes its designed that way.. it only lights up indoors or when its not really that bright ... pretty damn cool huh? I think htc was trying anything to increase battery life..

Did you mean it only lights up indoors when it isn't in a bright room? Because mine does not always light up indoors?!
Ok thanks everyone who resonded. I suspected that it was a new "feature" introduced on the newer hardware version, meant to extend battery by only lighting the buttons when it was dark for whatever reason. Makes sense since the nice silver etching for the circle and icons makes using them simple in even low lighting. Its just annoying as heck watching them turn on and off randomly, when you are so used to them just being lit all of the time you are using the phone, like I am from my original unit.
Now I know my refurb isn't just screwy.
I have noticed lately a little red light above the S in the *S*amsung logo above the screen. Anyone else notice this? A reboot fixes it but is this damaging my phone in some way?
*no its not the notification led* lol

To my knowledge there is no l.e.d in that location. To the left of the "S" is the proximity light sensor. Could it be that light is reflecting off the screen and emitting itself in a way that seems like a light source?

You're the second person that I heard that has this problem, but that post goes way back though and can't remember what he did to trigger it. Almost doesn't make sense a proximity having any light source though. Maybe it's a sign the sensor is failing

I'm noticing my phones been getting hotter than normal so something might be wrong. Tomorrow calls for a fresh flash and I'll keep it posted if I ever see it again or my sensor failed. Thanks.

Just triggered the red light playing with the proximity sensor.
Weird how it was on without me being on a call but I found out the light is normal.
Thank you

I honestly wouldn't worry about it. You might even not notice it if you switched to a dif rom with dif proximity sensor settings. I dont think its unheard of for an IR device to slightly glow red, prob just slightly more sensitive than another model. If you search for glowing proximity sensor you will see many devices that have it sometimes, and is even dependant upon updates/rom changes.
The only thing I would keep an eye on is, if you really think your phone is getting hotter than usual alot. It may be that the IR is receiving too much power, in which case it also may glow red, or the IR led may be dying and putting off visible light instead of IR

I was the one who posted about this a while back. It's the proximity sensor.
This guy has some application installed that keeps the proximity sensor on. It does pit out some light that you can see in a dark room.
For me I believe it was a notification application that I had set up to not go off if the phone was in my pocket hence the need to use that sensor.
If you make a call in the dark take a look, you will see that it may light up.

proximity sensor or the light sensor, gotta be infared, normal tho, cause i can see mine sometimes at night too.
Yep it is the proximity sensor. You can actually go into tasker and tell it to turn the proximity sensor on or off and the red light will show up and go away. It has to be pretty dark to see it though.
No Hal 9000 references?
I searched this thread and googled it but cant seem to find why there is a lil red light next to my front facing camera.. It comes on sometimes and the only way to turn it off is to reboot.. what is it from?? Should that light be coming on like that? It's a sensor to detect distance from face or surfaces etc. It shouldn't be constantly on. Has your battery been draining quickly?

One of them is the ambient light sensor (For use when you set screen brightness to auto). The other one is the proximity sensor, which is the red light you're seeing. It senses if something is in front of the phone (i.e the side of your face during a phone call, so it can turn screen off.). It may be on because of the direct call feature. Go into gestures and turn this off and it may turn your "red light" off. However it is not very hurtful, and is not usually a problem for most.

Hopefully just a bug. If you are stock, try a factory reset. If he sold it to you with a custom rom, reflash one from here that you like. Basically, start fresh.

If you're in any messaging app or call log and have direct dial enabled it will be on as long ad you're in the app. If you have a flip cover screen off mod it'll be always on. It's called a proximity sensor and the red light you see is from the infrared sensor that detects distance from a surface to automatically turn the screen on and off such as when you're on a call.
