We got two tilt 2's yesterday. First, MINE (ugh) makes a click sound when putting the tilting screen back to flat. Doesnt do it when moving the screen anywhere but just as it gets back to completly flat to the base. A little click or snap noise like a peice of plastic breakage. It keeps doing it every time. The other one doesnt do this.
Secondly, right after we got them and left, i noticed her led was blinking showing power was on. Mine wasnt blinking at all. I just checked and i dont get a blinking blue light with blue tooth enabled either. I am not able to check the other tilt 2, but i suspect hers would be blue if the blue tooth was enabled.
Im thinking about hard resetting. If that doesnt cure it, exchange? Problem is, they were the only 3 the store had and some one else took the other as we did our thing.
I don't know about your other problems, but my phone also makes that noise when closing the screen flat. It doesnt really bother me that much so I don't plan on returning it unless it becomes worse.
How about the Tilted screen? when you touch it tilted, or shake it slightly when tilted, does the screen wobble? I got mine yesterday, and if I hold it at an angle to straight in my hand, when I touch the screen it 'plays' back and forth 3-4 degrees... very annoying
And yes, it clicks too when closed flat...
Me thinks it goes back for another unit.... how do your units behave? Is the screen firm when tilted, or does it wobble?
I've never gotten a blinking light with power on any HTC phones.
Maybe it's a voicemail indicator?
I haven't learned the ins and outs of the LEDs yet. I know with EnergyROM installed I don't see a Bluetooth blinkenlight when BT is on, but currently I'm set as not discoverable and not paired with anything.

This is bothering me too. Lights don't do anything unless it is connected to a charger. My old Tilt would at least flash to let you know you had a signal (and it was on). I also don't get a flash when the GPS is active like I did with the Tilt, nor WiFi. If you go to the notifications section, there are "flash light for ..." options for things like new txt msgs, new voicemail, missed call, etc., but they can't be enabled: they are all grayed out. Someone had a cab out for the old Tilt that would let you customize the behavior of the lights, but I don't think I ever tried it.
As far as the click, mine clicks too, but it doesn't bother me. I'm just glad my screen doesn't wobble (rotate) back and forth like the demo unit in the store did.

Hello there... just to let you know... clicking sound is completely normal... (mine as well as 3 other I have got in my hands... all do the clicking... so not to worry... (your wife's tilt 2 not doing click... yeap... that's the one with issues not yours) about led... I have Original Tilt and now Tilt 2... just to confirm again... yes... original Tilt flashes left light about every 15 sec... while new Tilt 2 flashes only on new email/text/mms
I wonder if there is a way to remap the blinking lights via registry in order to set them like Original Tilt...
RTFM & search. there is only a green & orange LED. there is no blinking lights for bluetooth/wifi/cell phone signal. there is nothing wrong with your phone. The light only blinks for whatever you set in the Sounds & Notification settings, low battery, & charging.
as for the clicking when you go back to flat: my Tmo TP2 has done this since day 1 as did the first one i had. I just think of it as a auditory confirmation that the screen is back to where it's supposed to be.

Too bad that's grayed out so we can't set them. Mine appears to be set to only blink for five minutes. That's fine if I happen to look at the phone within five minutes of the event.

Any fix for this? Ideally I would want to see if I have missed event past the 5 minute cutoff... I wonder if there is a registry setting. any help??

Page 26 of my Manual says;
* The Notification LED shows a:
*Flashing green light when there are new SMS, MMS or email messages, missed calls, or reminders.
*Solid green light when the device is connected to the power adapter or a computer and the battery is fully charged.
*Solid amber light when the battery is being charged.
*Flashing amber light when the remaining battery level reaches below 10%.

I don't think the clicking noise when the screen seats in the flat position is due to plastic flex. It sounds metallic to me -- as though one of the components of the metal hinge is seating into another -- i.e. sort of a mechanical clickstop when the flat position is reached.
The screen wobble in tilted position is due to the continuously variable tilt angle feature. Doesn't bother me, as long as it doesn't get so loose with wear that the screen doesn't maintain a set angle. The alternatives would be either fixed tilt positions (click stops) instead of a continuously variable tilt; or making the hinge so tight that it would be a pain to tilt it.

When in call and placing the phone face down on a surface, the speaker phone should get activated. In my experience it only seem to work like this on the odd occasion, the green icon comes on every time on the back of the phone but the speaker doesn't turn on all the time.
I presume it is a firmware issue as the speakerphone works o.k when activated form the screen and the G-sensor works fine in other applications and when you try to calibrate. Also on the occasions when it did work, there was an annoying lag (around 3 to 4 secs) before the speaker phone turned on.
Anyone else experiencing this?
In my (short) experience with the phone it has worked well as long as the device is completely flat on a level surface, I had a single sheet of paper on my desk and placed the phone down to make a speakerphone call and it kept cutting in and out... once I moved it off the paper and onto the desk fully it started working properly.
it all seems a bit too fickle for my liking but when it does work it is pretty amazing.
I've had one call when I think the second microphone didnt cut in as the caller was complaining that they couldnt hear me at all until I picked it up again.

I think you might be right, I had only tried this feature by holding the phone face down in my hand. When placing it on the computer desk, it seem to cut in and out, obviously not level enough. They must have done this to prevent the speakerphone coming on accidentally (which could be embarrassing).
It's worked fine for me I've just tried it on slightly raised cardboard CD cover which is on top of a USB drive, which in turn is on top of a desk drawer unit, which in turn is on top of an old carpet. It's a feature I didn't think I'd use, but actually I do.

I've been doing some experimenting using a level table and hard place mat
There is a very low tolerence for the tilt of the phone - approximately 5 degrees from true level (any direction) within which the speaker-phone will activate.
Any thing outside this "envelope" and the speakerphone deactivates.
I thought that the proximity sensor maybe involved in the decision making - but it doesn't seem to be!
IMHO Something like having a slightly wider tilt tolerance and using the proximity sensor would have made more sense.

I've had my G2 since the 9/29 and on several occasions I've noticed the trackpad triggering itself when my finger is no where near it.
Once, I was in the market looking at a list of apps. Normally, when you swipe on the trackpad in there it selects an application and highlights it orange. This randomly happened all by itself. If I touch the screen the selection goes away, but then it would suddenly appear again a few seconds later.
In Subsonic it even jumped around between a few controls.
Another time I was playing Wordfeud and it spontaneously highlighted the Pass button. This time I grabbed my old G1 to shoot video of it happening. I must have shot at least 10 minutes of video and it happened twice more, as I recall.

Anyone else have this problem? I can't reproduce it at will. It seems to happen randomly while I'm holding the phone.
naw, but i've noticed my trackpad will occasionally bring my display back to life when it's timed out - will not do it predictably, but 2-3 times out of 10 tries, it will
have no idea what's going on, but would love to be able to use it to wake the phone up - much easier than using the power button
Hmmm, I have my phone plugged in via USB right now. I have debugging turned on, and "keep screen on" enabled. So it sits there dimly lit after 2 minutes. I was going to leave it alone and see if the trackpad spontaneously moves when I'm not holding the phone.
So far it has not, but just now the screen lit back up to full brightness all by itself. This normally happens when you touch the screen, a button, or the trackpad.
In all previous cases of my bug, I was holding the phone. I heard that the trackpad is capacitive, just like the screen, so maybe holding the phone a certain way can mess with it, but sitting on a desk it won't. If I let the phone sit here long enough, maybe I can refute that idea. If a home screen icon suddenly becomes selected, I'll know that it can happen even when I'm not touching the phone.
In any case, I can't explain why my screen woke back up from being dim.
Yea the touch stuff is set off by heat so maybe it felt some heat from somewhere and thought that you touched it. Thats about all i can think of on that one.
I'm pretty sure it's triggered by electrical capacitance, not by heat. It's either optical or by capacitance (and I heard it's not optical). I don't think any sensors like this use a heat detection mechanism.
To test this, you should be able to hold something cold with a similar capacitance as your skin, like a cold hot dog, and operate the trackpad using it.

Yes , I noticed mine doing the same thing. If my finger were to hover anywhere near the trackpad it would flash and move around. It doesnt happen all the time but it has happened. I also have had some issues with the sim card and memory card not being read. The memory card I had to put it on my pc transfer all the data, re format and scan the card then reinstall my data to the card. Which has fixed the issue. I suspect a download from the market may have corrupted my memory card.

So, at first I thought the trackpad was optical, but someone on reddit assertively said, "no, it's capacitive." So I believed him. But now I think he's wrong.
I believe that if the trackpad is capacitive like the touchscreen, then anything that can interact with the trackpad can also interact with the touchscreen. I used a piece of cloth to interact with the touchpad and it did not interact with the touchscreen.

(Shot with my G1) The cloth easily moves the trackpad around, but it's impossible to get it to register a touch on the screen.
Also, the trackpad is perfectly usable even when your finger is completely covering it. Try it with your thumb even. You can completely cover it then still move around your thumb and your selection will move around. I do not believe a capacitive device would detect the difference between full contact on one place on your thumb and full contact on a different part of your thumb, and especially not the direction of change as you move it. Capacitive touch screens rely on moving the point of skin contact, which never happens if you're touching the whole thing at once. An optical sensor on the other hand would be seeing your fingerprint move.
Thirdly, when you look at the trackpad in direct light, it looks like dark, transparent, purple plastic. I believe it's transparent yet purple because the wavelength of light it emits can go through the plastic, but is not visible light. Infrared maybe? Ultraviolet? I think it's very similar to the "black" CDs for the original Playsation gaming console. They were actually very, very dark purple but that was completely transparent to the CD player.

Fourth, I can't get this bug to happen if I hold the phone perfectly still. It only seems to happen when I move it around in my hand. I think the sensor is "seeing" movement when I do that.

Electrical tape doesn't stop a capacitive touch screen, but it renders the trackpad useless.
It's probably a simple IR LED and photodiode operating in much the same way an optical mouse operates. One way you could check is to point an old camcorder at the trackpad. Old camcorders tend to have weak or no IR filters.

My old G1's camera has no problem seeing the IR from my TV's remote, but it detects nothing coming from the trackpad. However, the remote is designed to reach a lot further than the trackpad, so maybe the trackpad's LED is just very dim.
I don't have anything else to test it with.
yes, i have had this problem!!...it did it on my home screen, just starts switch home screens left and right...this was like two days ago...it hasn't done it since,still debating if i should get a new phone
The trackpad is optical/IR. It responds to infrared. If you go out on a sunny day, your trackpad will go wild. The new blackberrys have the same problem. I really do not think there is a fix, and it's pretty annoying. I've owned a Blackberry 9700 since January and I never could find a way around this, no matter what sensitivity setting I had it on or how much I updated the OS.
I've noticed the same thing with the G2.. in sunlight, the cursor goes crazy.
If there were ever any sun in Rochester, NY I would test this. I assume It's only a problem if the phone itself is in direct sunlight. Is the the case? So, if I shield it with my own shadow I'd be ok?

I just noticed this with my G2, kind of annoying, ha. So I experimented and found that nothing happens while holding the phone still or while it sits on the desk, or with the room's light off. But, if I tilt it around with the light on, it acts up.
I think it's detecting the light behind me.
i think its kinda cool. doesnt bother me cuz it makes my phone feel.... alive in a sense. but it is very light sensitive. im freaking loving this phone. not a single complaint
Last night I was out and during the night I pulled my desire z out of my pocket to find that the screen was dead, the soft touch buttons were still lit up and working but no display. I pulled the battery and tried to reboot and no luck, you can hear it booting and even unlock/receive calls and txts etc once it has booted up just the screen stays blank the whole time so have to do everything on feel.
Essentially does this just mean my screen has a hardware fault? is it worth trying to fix? I assume the only option would be to purchase a replacement screen and dissemble and reassemble it?
(warranty is not worth it as I live in New Zealand and would have to send my phone back to the UK where I bought it from, also I have dropped it quite a few times so probably voided anyway...)

Because then it is probably a hardware problem.
Since the soft touch buttons do still work I think there might be a little crack or something in the flat cable that connects the bottom half with the top.
Maybe you could check whether you can see if the cable is broken or not?
The best thing to do then is to look for a replacement and try to fix it yourself or bring it to a shop where they can do it for you.
No it never displays anything, completely dead the whole time. The touch input is still working though as I answered a phone call this morning on it by making the usual gesture just without being able to see anything. Doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the cable itself as far as I can see. Yea might have to get someone to have a look at it.
My phone is acting the same. I dropped my phone in the pond before, but pulled battery out on time and had it in rice for a day. My phone was still working for about two weeks after that incident. I dropped it and had one little crack at the top of the screen and about a week after that it died when I had a water balloon fight with the phone in my pocket. D;
Do any of you know if the replacement lcd screen/digitizer for the Desire Z would work for the G2?
I had the same thing happening to my G2 screen, only it was intermittently working for a little while, then just completely died and wouldn't work. It was doing this crazy flickering thing then the back light wouldn't go on at all. If I held the phone at a certain angle in the sun, I could see that the pixels were indeed working on the display, but there was no backlight to make them normally visible.
So I purchased a replacement screen from ebay and carefully followed the directions on a youtube video for a G2 take apart. Its not a hard task to take apart and get down to the screen itself. It was rather easy. After putting it back together the screen still didn't work! Sounds work, i can also receive calls etc. But the screen still doesn't work!
Is there any way that this could be a software issue?
Oh and PS, I believe the LCD replacement would work for both the desire Z and the G2. They are identical phones after all right? I'd say its a safe bet. The screen I bought was only 35 bucks. Didn't think that was a bad deal.
Another dead screen or something else?
Few days ago my phone fell of the couch onto a rug - no big deal, so far it has survived much worse, but when I picked it up, the colors were all messed up - overly green and red. Tried restarting - no luck. Everything worked fine, except the colors, but then the screen turned of completely. I could hear notifications, phonecalls, but the screen was dead. After some tapping on the screen, it turned on again - with ****ed up colors. Then started flickering and was gone again. Few more times I could turn it on by tapping before it was dead for good.
Figured, after all these drops it survived, maybe the screen connector is a bit loose. I mean, I could sometime get a contact when tapping it, so I dissasambled it completely, secured all the connection, put it all back tougether and fired up - same thing: dead screen, phone working.
Has anyone had such problem before? Is it screen that is dead, or connector or... I have no clue... I would like try to fix it on my own, with some replacement parts I could get on ebay - but, what gave?
Has anyone else noticed that the bottom lights on the phone only stay on for 5 seconds and then turn off even when screen is active? Its annoying as hell.
Most (if not all) phones with capacitive backlit buttons do this, to conserve battery life and reduce the amount of needless ambient light when doing things like reading and watching videos. There are only three of them and they're in the same place on every Windows phone handset, so it shouldn't be that hard to get used to, especially compared to an Android device.
Very true, but when a screen is turned sideways when watching said movie or reading, it takes a bit to discover what direction to turn the phone because you can't see the buttons. This is especially true when you have a case on the phone and the physical buttons aren't viewable. Just a comment and was curious if anyone knew how to keep them on while the screen was on. Obviously this is a windows thing but we curious. Like the phone otherwise.
Well actually it's a Nokia thing. My Surround lights always stayed on. They thought it would be good for the battery. Took a few days but I am used to it now.

Correction, its actually a Lumia 900 thing. My lumia 800's lights always lit up when the screen was on (as long as it was in auto mode)
Ok, so mixed reviews. Is it driving anyone else mad? It sounds like my previous comment about it being windows was incorrect. It appears to be a firmware issue.
I have noticed they don't stay on very long. It is sometimes annoying. If they could just have them lit up for a little while longer it would be very helpful.
I don't need them on constantly.
Also, I had a Lumia 800 for a while and those buttons would stay lit for a lot longer until Nokia pushed out an update and one of the things they changed was a shorter time for those buttons to stay lit and I couldn't figure out why because it was so much better before that.
Drives me crazy too. Might as well not have the lights at all - forever missing the spot and hitting the screen multiple times to register. At least make the dead space around the back arrow register as "light up"!
Ok, at least in not the only one. I am probably going to contact Nokia about it. But obviously that will do nothing. ohwell, I guess it's something I will have to deal with.

Drives me nuts too. And I hated it on the Captivate, but a little Root action fixed that. I'm so used to having physical buttons on my Desire, which didnt matter if they lit up or not, I could still feel them.
Only thing I don't like about physical buttons is in very circumstantial situations it is unDesireable (see what I did there?) to apply the required pressure to press the buttons (like whin in a gooseneck car mount for instance)
I have factory reset the watch and everything. I dont run Fit and all the Moto Body notifications are turned off on the watch, yet it comes on every 30 seconds to 1 minute. Charging, on my wrist, on the table, doesnt matter.
Also my battery life, while still decent, isnt as good as it was before 5.1
Anyone else seeing this?

I have noticed the heart rate sensor activating more frequently after the 5.1 update. However, it's not every minute like your does. I notice the green light every time I take it off the charger. Then, I notice if it detects any slight movement thereafter, it will turn on. Like when it's laying on it's side on my night stand, if I pick up my phone and put it down next to it, the light turns on because it feels the slightest vibration from putting the phone down. Pretty much, if I lightly knock the night stand, the green light comes on. A little annoying, but whatever.
i don't care to notice the heart rate sensor light... and after upgrading to 5.1, my battery has stayed the same!
How do you think it does off body detection? Accelerometer alone won't cut it, it looks for a living wrist when its "too still".
mine always comes on when i take my watch off. its trying to detect a heart rate but since it cant find it itll keep looking and it does eat the **** out of the battery.
for example if i take the watch off the charger and let it sit to cool off before i wear, i will always notice the green light on and if i dont wear it in time ill lose ~5-10% battery

Yeah, I've noticed this as well. Before the update, one was able to turn off the heart rate feature altogether by disabling the health tracking stuff.. but now it doesn't seem to matter, it comes on regardless.
