[Q] How to send files over Bluetooth? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi, guys. I having trouble sending files over bluetooth. With my GSG2 it's working like charm, but with GN I need to start third party app lik Bluetooth file transfer in order to receive file. Is it possible to do this in normal way? On the GSG2 I was authorized the phone to accept files from my PC without prompting me, but GN even didn't ask for this. When I try to send a file, I receiving only the error message on the PC and nothing on the phone. If I start BT file trasnfer app, it's work.

+1 on this problem, cant transfer anything to GN but not a problem from it to any device
when I try with "Bluetooth File Explorer" it says Bluetooth FIle Receiving Service cannot start.

Did you try making it discoverable?
I face no such probs, i rarely use it anyways, wifi is way way way way faster.

Yeah I know it's faster with wifi, but when ur not at home bluetooth is the way anyway, have u tried sending a file from ur pc to ur phone or from another phone to ur GN? If yes then I guess it's time to wipe everything and reflash the firmware and if this doest help, oh well, RMA it

I have had a few problems but have found a solution myself:
Just put everything in a zipped folder, transfers fine every time without third party software!
Hope this helps

Hmm I'd like to know a solution to this too. Sending files from my phone works fine, but I tried sending something from my laptop earlier and it didn't work

if you say "bluetooth is the way to go when wifi is not available" why dont you use wireless hotspot, and run a http server, or a ftp server, or simply dropbear on your device? then your friend can connect to your phone's hotspot ssid, and get whatever he wants. it works great if the other person isn't using some last century phone.
enjoy

Yes ur suggestion is good for big files, but for small files bluetooth is more convenient, for me at least i think once wifi direct is more common, "bluetooth file transfer" is gonna die

Does anyone have another solution? Zipping/unzipping things is a minor hassle but it's still a hassle, I bet the iPhone doesn't have this problem..

[Q] Sending files wireless to evo

Is there a way to send a file to my evo using my wifi connection at home or do I have to use the cable?
this is kind of a backwards way to just to straight file transfer, but I use Dropbox all the time. It has many more uses as well, but will get File A to Evo B too.
You would think theres an easier way though right?
Thanks for the quick reply though.
+15 internets to you sir
I use bluetooth from my pc to evo, works like a charm

Dropbox, then send the link with chrome-to-phone. Still not quite the same as a direct send, but if you are on wifi it should be fairly fast.

Take a look at Wifi File Explorer Pro. (Can't post links, but a search on the Market or App Brain will turn it up)
Less than a dollar and works spectacularly.
Dropbox is great imo. You get about 2 gigs to keep whatever you want on there. And it keeps it synced between all devices.

You can also use wifi file explorer pro, very wonderful app. Dropbox is also good but with wifi file explorer you can just open up a web browser and go to the ip address of your device and you good to go.you can delete files ,browse file and add files to your sd, all done from the web interface...

yes Bluetooth is my favorite choice.
especially nice for syncing contacts and calendar stuff from phone/computer, or any reasonably smart Bluetooth enabled device.

[Q] Android market not working in Italy

So I brought my A100 to Italy and android market does not work. My email app doesnt work. All it keeps saying no connection. I've restarted it several times and every time it will say i have an update. But when i try to update it will give me no connection again. I've tried updating the market by downloading it somewhere else and even resetting it to factory. Stil nothing... Also its not rooted.
Has anyone had this happen to them traveling abroad?
Have you tried checking to see if you actually have internet access? Sounds like your either not connected to the internet or your internet connection is being heavily limited by a firewall.

well cant really access the market to download that. Also tried connecting with another wifi spot and nothing.
Just to clarify wifi is working just fine. i can connect to the internet and browse normally. Just wont allow me to access the market and my email for some weird reason.
Ok so i found out what the problem was. Market auto updated to a bad version. Only way to fix it at the moment is a factory reset... good bye pre-loaded gamestop games

Sending files to a Mac via Bluetooth

I am currently running the Google I/O JellyBean OTA on my non Google I/O Nexus (hope that makes sense :S) and I am trying to send some MP3's from my Nexus to my Retina MacBook Pro via Bluetooth.
I have paired the devices together and they both see each other no problem, however, when I try to send the files I get a "Connection Unsuccessful" error from the Nexus and the file does not send?
Anyone else get this, and do you have any ideas how I can fix this?
Cheers

I get this error trying to send a file over BT. "File transfer failed: internal error".
I've not had very good luck using BT with my Galaxy Nexus and MacBook Pro. Bluetooth tethering can't be trusted for more than 5min without disconnecting.

Heh, the reason I wrote it (and subsequently forgot to write it in the OP) is that the Retina MBP had Bluetooth 4.0, wasn't sure if this made a difference?

I have noticed that some of my files on my SD Card are not showing up in the list on Android File Transfer? I have 2 MP3's in a folder which I want to transfer, but they don't show up? I tried putting them into a .zip file also, and that doesn't show up either?
Anyone have any ideas?

All my files show. You can use some apps to have the phone re-scan for media and update the listing, although mine's always done just fine.

The files show fine on the phone, just not on Android File Transfer.
Might just email them or fire up my bootcamp partition!

Cannot transfer files via usb...major pain in the butt!!

I have tried all options, to get my files to transfer using my usb cable, to my computer. I can't download a file to the device, nor can I copy/paste files to and from it, either. I have tried multiple cables, and even when it shows the phone is connected, I still cannot do a thing other than copy small files to it. This is a MAJOR problem, as I do not want to use AirDroid...it doesn't see every file I want to transfer...and something so simple as ancient usb file transfers are not working with this phone. My SGS2 worked just fine...but any help that you can give me would be appreciated. And yes, I have googled the hell out of the inquiry...just none that seem to fix my issues. :good:
what happens when "it doesnt work".
what operating system is your computer? windows I'll guess? Does it show in my computer? can you browse the files on the phone? Or do you get a message from the OS? whats the message it gives you??...
many important facts missing from your request for help....

Windows 7 64-bit...It DOES show in MY COMPUTER...yes, I CAN browse the files, yet I cannot move them, nor can I download or copy to the folders. There are also times where I get the Hardware Id Missing error, even after installing Kies or uninstalling it. Sometimes it shows up as USB Mass Storage Device in device manager, other times it shows up as Samsung I-747.
Out of curiosity, have you tried a different cable? I had a similar problem on my phone. I'd try to upload a file to the phone, even a small one, and it would go very slowly and eventually time out. I tried another usb cable and it worked fine.

I think you have a legitimate phone issue sir; sounds like you're due for a replacement. The folks on Verizon are having to replace there's left and right. I think samsung let their quality control slip on this one.

Why would I ever back up my IMEI? What is the point of that? I don't recall ever using any program to do that or that did that! What number did you type? Thank you!
Because earlier lots of people lost their imei from flashing stuff. So imei backup tools were made. If you never have done that youre fine. Might be something else like reinstalling drivers

Your not using any Custom ROMS or custom kernels? I had that issue with my S3 and I was using a kernel on stock touchwiz and couldn't mount. I had to use a micro sd adapter for the computer to change softwares on my micro sd card then flash it on my phone.

First of all, I never try bobcat rom. Therefore, I dont know what samsung bloatware has been removed by the developer.
But for your information. Everything related with *all share* app must be exist or installed on your rom. Otherwise, wifi direct only able to connect but no to send or receive file.
Good luck mate.

Great. I was experiencing the same problem (pending transfer). After defrosting allshareplay and allshare Service, everything is working. Unfortunatly many users recommends freezing these services without knowing what they are for. Don´t forget to get enabled the following services:
Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-fi direct share.
The problem is that after turning wifi direct off they remain active on backgroung. I greenified the following apps.
All share play
All share service
If you don´t use wifi direct you can freeze the four mentioned apps.
