Is there a way to send a file to my evo using my wifi connection at home or do I have to use the cable?
this is kind of a backwards way to just to straight file transfer, but I use Dropbox all the time. It has many more uses as well, but will get File A to Evo B too.
You would think theres an easier way though right?
Thanks for the quick reply though.
+15 internets to you sir
I use bluetooth from my pc to evo, works like a charm

Dropbox, then send the link with chrome-to-phone. Still not quite the same as a direct send, but if you are on wifi it should be fairly fast.

Take a look at Wifi File Explorer Pro. (Can't post links, but a search on the Market or App Brain will turn it up)
Less than a dollar and works spectacularly.
Dropbox is great imo. You get about 2 gigs to keep whatever you want on there. And it keeps it synced between all devices.

You can also use wifi file explorer pro, very wonderful app. Dropbox is also good but with wifi file explorer you can just open up a web browser and go to the ip address of your device and you good to go.you can delete files ,browse file and add files to your sd, all done from the web interface...

I hope I'm in the correct forum...
I have rooted and flashed VirusROM on my HTC EVO 4G. I used to be able to use Sprint's Hotspot app to tether Wifi to my carputer. I was using it Thursday on the way to my in-law's place for Thanksgiving. I left and then could not get it to work again. The computer connects and the signal is at full strength but all browsers say "Page cannot be displayed" and my weather updates down load anymore. I tried using other computers/devices and all connect but none show an internet connection. I can use Google Maps, send/receive pics and videos, and use the internet on my EVO but I cannot share it. Did Sprint cut me off? Is there a setting I mistakenly changed?? I was under the impression that I can tether for free when its rooted. I even download to different tether apps and got the same results. Anybody have any suggestions? Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance...

Although I am not using wifi tether, I am using the built in wireless tether through Miui. It is working flawlessly on my Mac. I suggest you change your SSID and maybe your password. If no success delete your network settings and try again.

I've never heard of Miui. I'll try that next. I already tried changing the SSID, the passwords, and even the encryption type and nothing worked...I'm gonna go back and try it all again. Thanks for the input, dude!!
Didn't know Miui was a ROM...I like the way I have everything set on Virus so I was hoping to not have to change ROM's. Thanks again though! Please keep suggestions coming, guys!

Try this link, not sure which one will work for you but the pre-14 works for me. Just try each one untill you find one that works on your ROM, sorry I can't point you to ont that I know will work on that rom. I know the link says Nexus one but they will work on the Evo just fine. Most of these act just linke a router, not an ad-hoc.

Sprint's HotSpot and Wifi Tether don't give the option and Barnacle was already set on Channel 1 :/ Thanks though
Wireless tether is what I was talking about I use pre 14, just open the app and menu/settings, its the 4th option down.
I don't know how I missed that option. I went in and changed it to Channel 1 but no change...my roommate came home and sparked up his Incredible's hotspot and it worked perfectly of the bat...something has got to be wrong with my EVO
does your evo say that a device connected and does it show that anything downloaded under the wireless tether app mine used to get stuck at just over 1kb of data then i modded my framework_res.apk and somehow i can tether again
It does seem to stay on a very low KB like 1.1...although it does show the devices that are connected...
Mine did the exact same thing although im not entirely sure what I did that fixed this I edited the xml code for the notification bar and edited the notification bar which somehow caused my tethering to work

Hi, guys. I having trouble sending files over bluetooth. With my GSG2 it's working like charm, but with GN I need to start third party app lik Bluetooth file transfer in order to receive file. Is it possible to do this in normal way? On the GSG2 I was authorized the phone to accept files from my PC without prompting me, but GN even didn't ask for this. When I try to send a file, I receiving only the error message on the PC and nothing on the phone. If I start BT file trasnfer app, it's work.
+1 on this problem, cant transfer anything to GN but not a problem from it to any device
when I try with "Bluetooth File Explorer" it says Bluetooth FIle Receiving Service cannot start.
Did you try making it discoverable?
I face no such probs, i rarely use it anyways, wifi is way way way way faster.

Yeah I know it's faster with wifi, but when ur not at home bluetooth is the way anyway, have u tried sending a file from ur pc to ur phone or from another phone to ur GN? If yes then I guess it's time to wipe everything and reflash the firmware and if this doest help, oh well, RMA it

Just put everything in a zipped folder, transfers fine every time without third party software!

if you say "bluetooth is the way to go when wifi is not available" why dont you use wireless hotspot, and run a http server, or a ftp server, or simply dropbear on your device? then your friend can connect to your phone's hotspot ssid, and get whatever he wants. it works great if the other person isn't using some last century phone.
enjoy

Does anyone have another solution? Zipping/unzipping things is a minor hassle but it's still a hassle, I bet the iPhone doesn't have this problem..
Does anyone know of any WORKING apps to control the Galaxy Nexus from your PC over 3G or even WiFi but not same network? I mostly need to be able to interact with the screen and type.
I tried:
droid VNC server - doesn't even start on my GNex
lazydroid web desktop - starts but the address is messed up (uses IPv6) and doesn't work
webkey (if this were working, it would be what I needed) - starts and some features work (seeing contacts for example) but most features don't: can't see phone screen, typing sends wrong characters to phone, gps and network location unavailable, etc.
If anyone has any ideas or knows something that works, please do share!
PS: i know there might be other topics asking this but I couldn't find anything fully relevant to my needs.
Thank you!
Airdroid. File transfers are slow but most everything else works fine. There is some delay as well but they did a good job implementing a desktop feel for controlling your phone.

Thanx,
I already use AirDroid and yes, it is nice but it has 2 things missing which I really would like:
1. see the actual phone "desktop" - its screen - and interact with it (scroll, start, stop apps, etc)
2. only works over WiFi
Other than that, it is a very nice phone management tool
have you guys tried android web control??
it looks to use the phone interface. i havent had a chance to try it yet.
do you mean https://market.android.com/details?id=genux.android.webcontrol?
if so, then it doesn't use the phone interface. it's just another "normal" web-based platform to send/receive SMS and see your contacts.
I'm also missing this kind of remote control app. Nothing is working. :-(
LazyDroid does work just fine, but you have to go into your wifi settings and get the IPv4 address and enter that in with the port number.
To get your IP:
Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Menu -> Advanced
- OR -
Settings -> Wi-Fi -> tap the network to which you are connected
***Looks like LazyDroid updated today or yesterday and now shows the IPv4 address right on the app instead of IPv6
Remote Web Desktop, its on the market.
Very good and featurerich app.

remote to android ICS Galaxy Nexus
After reading thisa thread I tried both LazyDroid and Remote Web Control and they both worked fine over wifi. Both apps are available through Android Market.
In fact the two apps look almost exactly the same. Both use a browser to access from your PC. Both display the IP address and port to use when you start your browser. Pretty simple. Real remote view requires root.
I am on a Galaxy Nexus running ICS.
I think the OP's point has been missed.
He is looking for a remote control app, that can function without wifi. I too am looking for an app such as this, as I use my phone to tether to my pc, and it acts as my internet connection, hence I cannot be on the same wifi network on my pc!
If anyone has found, or made, an app that can do this I would greatly appreciate it!
There is a free app on the market called webkey that does exactly that.

I honestly think this is a great feature on the stock ROM. I could send app apk's to a buddy of mine and everything. Even HD movies.
So I'm only left to wonder, is this a feature of S Beam? Even though I didn't touch the phones, we just paired via WiFi Direct.
However he does have a S3 as well.

There are a few apps in the play store that do essentially the same thing. Bump being one I've used since my iPhone days.
But I have to admit, sbeam and the integration in the TW interface is much more user friendly. Would be nice to see something of the sort in CM10 but I wouldn't count on it

Bluetooth or try something called xlink in playstore. But with xlink you need to be on same wifi but its really fast.
This should work stock if you are on CM9/CM10. Google added Android Beam in ICS. It uses NFC to pair and transmit files, contacts and whatever.
The video here shows how to make sure it is turned on and how it works.

I see... Jelly Bean uses NFC to set up a bluetooth connection which is faster but not as fast as Wifi...
Google added support for wifi direct in ics. Sadly it is just sdk. It took samsung to make an app. Even more sad is that in play store nobody took up the mantle and develop a third party app using that sdk.
Tried sending files with nfc with galaxy Nexus and my sgs3 and even that does not work properly, well it does send bookmarks, contacts and opens apps or opens play store to download that app, but it does not send actual files.
The only way is manually sending via bluetooth, but that's way too slow.
Also note that even with Samsung, the current file size limit for wifi direct is about 1 gigabyte.

Send files over WIFI
What I do is:
on Phone 1 make a wireless hotspot (tethering)
connect phone 2 to this hot spot.
use ES File explorer (free) to create a ftp server on phone 1 (in the settings)
Use ES File explorer on phone 2 to log into phone 1 by putting in the settings on your notification bar on phone 1 (the one that says FTP server is running)
then you can see all your files in phone 1, just copy what you want over or even stream a movie from your phone to your tablet...
then benefit to doing it this way is you can stream from another phone and you can also access files from a PC using filezilla(free)

Just a suggestion but if you root your phone which is not very difficult you can get wifi hotspot for free. I dont understand why we should pay for something that already comes with our phones.
I know I can, but I've rooted previous phones--HTC Hero and the Samsung Epic 4G. I had many issues with the Epic 4G after root that I didn't have before rooting. I like to play with the phones, but I don't like things going wrong. I don't have as much time to tinker with them to get them to work right. I could spend a whole weekend doing nothing but root and reflash different roms. Was fun, but a time suck!
