well, it is great news the cm9 is coming, so we have to give up CM7? cmdefy.tk/jordan-nightly/, the site never update since 4, Dec.
Any news?
if cm9 is coming i think the devs are focusing more for cm9
perhaps they will update cm7,but there is a small chance of that happening now
CM7.2 update is coming soon, i have a feeling that is the last update for CM7, After that CM9 takes over

Lol u're such a dumbass
I think the devs are trying to find a solution for bootloop problems, which sometimes occurs in CM7 (last nightly) and CM9
When that is fixed for both, think CM7 should be as stable as a rock and probabaly ends there...and we all move onto CM9
waiting for final 7.2 release and a stable cm9 release thereafter.
hope they work well with green lense

If the cm7 nightlys are pretty stable and super sweet might I add, (ty cyanogen and td) why don't we have an official stable release for cm7? This is in no way an eta question just wondering what the hold up is. TIA
I'm not sure what goes into a stable release, but maybe there's a lot more things they'd like to put in, maybe some options for tweaking... Or maybe something's still broken.
That's my guess... :x
I kinda wondered, myself.
more tweaks or more features in a stable rom is appreciated. overall im impressed with the development on this phone. glad i let go of samsung :x. lets be patient and see what uncovers... who knows maybe this phone will see 3.0. but im sure that we will all upgrade by then
there is nightlys for new builds and mods.. then there is RC's that are community tested to weed out any bugs there is.. and of course any new mods from nightly's that there is.. then there is stable that has 98% things working with most mods and extras in it
yes im aware of the differences in nightly, stable and RC. but thanx for that i guess?.

He was just pointing out why we don't have stable yet. Lots of phones aren't stable yet. They generally don't release stables for one phone until they are all ready. There are still plenty of things they are planning to put in, it might be a month or two or three. Who knows, but yes, the nightlies are fairly stable, so I recommend them
hello readers i was just wondering why people are jumping to cm9(ics) and we don't have a fully working cm7(g bread)

This was actually cyanogenmods decision. They decided to skip cm7 for the snapdragon gs2's (basically ours) and just jump to CM9. Were just waiting for source and an ICS leak so we can get drivers to run it. CM7 is good enough as a DD if you really wanted to use it.
............
i think thats bullshi, that they would do that so dumb y skip on it i dont think we are getting it ics till like august

Because I think they want to focus on the latest OS for our phones, then to work on an older one.
Also, rumors around the forums are that there might be ICS by the end of the month.

Try not to think about it, youll just want a new phone more and more, or an old one, which gets Alphas while we get nothing.
Use the search function next time. At least 20 of these threads. And Im sure we will all forget about cm7 when we get cm9.

Personally, i hate that they decided to skip cm7. I have so many apps so i hate the ics app drawer, i like the widgets, but those can be downloaded, and there are just too many issues for me with ICS. I was really hoping for a stock GB rom instead of Dewizzed, which is kind-of laggy. Guess im stuck with it until after cm9 and probably for another few months while someone else tries to port cm7.
Tbh I dont care how the ****ing thing looks you can always change that ,but I want a good working cm7 like 50% lighter mb wize then most roms

It's understandable you all want CM7, but there's no point in wasting time when they SHOULD be working on an ICS based AOSP ROM instead (CM9). It doesn't make sense from their perspective to work on an obsolete OS for a brand new phone. They'd much rather focus on CM9 for a variety of phones in the meantime of waiting for an ICS release/leak of our S2.
I too am a fan of CM7, as it was my daily driver for my Vibrant...but it doesn't make sense to work on an older version of Android on a new phone when old phones are getting the newest OS.

Have you tried Juggernaut 5.0? I've been running the CM7 alpha since I got this phone and randomly decided to make the switch the other day. I pretty much like everything about it better. Colors look better, no lag - even feels a bit smoother IMO. You might lose a bit of the customization, but there are so many apps out there these days that will give you any of those things it doesn't matter.

As everyone's stated, I think it was all about timing. Our phone, and the skyrocket were released really late in the GB game. ICS will come before too long. I remember the wait for GB years ago, now it's the same thing all over again!
ICS source came out (according to the CM website blog post about the CM9 RC1 release) 255 days prior to CM9 RC1.
That is a significantly long time to wait for an RC release from the CM team.
I understand the "why"...
ICS was a significant change from GB, that required a lot of work on the CM team's part to get the features/changes implemented that we expect in a CM release.
But what about JB? It isn't a major update like V2.x.x to 4.x.x that the GB to ICS jump was. This makes me think that when source is released, we should see some beta releases (maybe alpha) fairly quickly.
I would guess we have at least a few months to go before JB releases and source drops for it. (if any rough time frame has been officially released, I missed it) So that means the CM team has a little while to work out the last bit of tweaking needed for CM9, and then they will naturally want to shift focus to JB/CM10.
So... thoughts? Think we will see a faster turn around for CM10 than we did CM9?
Google announced at the jelly bean announcement that the ota for the nexus phones and source would be released mid July. So I'm sure as soon as that happens things will pick up pretty quick seeing as they now have a better handle on how the newer stuff works.

Sources for JB should be released Mid-July, so no need to wait months to get them. I don't think it will take a long time for people who had CM9 on their phone to get CM10. There is way less work to do to get from ICS -> JB than to get GB -> ICS (Specially because everything changed in Honeycomb and ICS had these change implemented). We should see CM10 beta soon when the sources are out. Codeworkx will do some magic for us .

Thats what I was thinking... CM10 would be quicker.
(never seen the release announcement, so I guessed on time frame from past announcements)
As posted here:

4.1 source has been / is being pushed to AOSP.
CyanogenMod's response:
https://plus.google.com/117962666888533781522/posts/aRVWBbuWQar
During Cyanogens "keynote" before I/O he mentioned that the push from CM9 to CM10 was going to be MUCH quicker than the push from GB/ICS because not much has changed and they can still merge the ICS changes in to a new JB tree....TODAY! I'd expect to see CM10 nightlies in 2 weeks.
Anyone else hoping it gets called CMX instead of CM10?

The team is already referring to it as CM 10 in their posts.
And just like that we have source...
CMX would be cool.
I was just stirring up a little discussion... and a few hours later... source.
I also agree, it would be way cooler as CMX

Not to sound like an ass but honestly CM7 looks and feels really dated now and with a more stable CM9 for our phone and hopefully CM10 on the way I rather more effort is focused on ICS and JB ROMs rather than CM7 since we already have good GB ROMs for the SGW.

I'm not agree with you.
First, there is not a finished and stable CM rom and is not so good start with new projects at this point.
Why?
Because gingerbred on galaxy w is simply perfect and there is no reason or features in CM9 or in CM10 that justify porting and waste of resources and time.
I hope that someone will finish CM7 job.

Well your welcome to disagree, i'm not forcing my opinion on you or anyone just stating what I think.
There is no finished CM ROM but stable I honestly think the latest CM9 build is stable for daily use and not so good, lol CM9 runs graphic heavy games a whole lot better than GB even when its OC.
Oh yes GB is much much smoother and better than ICS and JB, sigh. There are already good GB ROMs for the SGW so is it such a big deal that someone wants to drop making CM7 and start doing the newest CM10 for our phone its their choice and if I had skills I rather take my shot and making CM9 and CM10 for our phone better rather than stick with ye old CM7.

Agreed. I just can say, " go for the CM10". I want to live the future not the past...
Sent from my GT-I8150 using xda premium
Actually, I'm supporting the development of CM9 and CM10 because 'in case of' the ROM becomes standard, I don't have to learn it.
Take an example of the ye old Win XP
Nowadays, Windows 7 has become the new standard of the computing world (of Windows, obviously).
Yes, you can still make Windows XP compatible program (with more cost and testing) , but can you assure that your program (which is made in .. say Win 7 with .NET Framework 3.5 / 4) could run w/o prob in Windows XP while your program works seamlessly in Win 7?
My point here is that we have to take measure on which ROM has brighter future? Will GB be updated again, with more fantastic feature, or will ICS and JB got them?
The problem is that there will be a hell lot of bugs, maybe even a brick... So when I try a new ROM, best I wait till it has only a few bugs that can be replaced with 3rd party apps (eg. Fm radio)
What do you think?

at least we have a good starting point, cm9 which can be considered as fully working now :good:
Well, If he's really going to port CM10 for us, I hope he knows that may need to rewrite all the drivers again, like in ICS. And I remember he said in CM7 port topic that he doesn't know very much about kernel and drivers development, Oisis was helping him. I thought he should finish CM7 first, but If he consider better to start CM10, so let's go. I'll try to start studying better of kernel development for helping'em out. Its the right decision, in my opinion - working on a Gingerbread-ROM does not make any sense at the moment - From features to smoothness, ICS is by far the better choice. Although RAM is a bottleneck for some purposes on the Galaxy W, the device as a whole has enough power to profit from the enhancements that came with ICS and JB.
@bangprovn, would you please release your CM7 source code/repo over github or other repos hosting share with maybe some note howto compile it, I have try it but no luck, stuck on brunch ancora command.
It says there is no ancora device code or sumtim like that
On ur cm7 threat osiris had some patch 4 wifi driver, but I'm sure there are some config on device.mk should be aligned correctly, and I think I could learn easily read ur porting process than I have to start from zero, with your mentoring maybe.

This will be a powerhouse and fast development in CM10 for our phone. A period of 3-4 months, we have a stable CM ROM.
Hi, I'm new to both the android OS and xda
Recently moving off the iPhone and to the SGS3, the first thing I wanted to do with my new phone is root and install the well-acclaimed Cyanogenmod on my new phone. I'm trying to decide between using the stable CM9 or the alpha CM10. I am currently having trouble deciding because I am afraid of using a CM10 rom that has bugs, bugs that I don't believe I have the experience to really deal with. (But i love project butter)
I was wondering if the upgrades to CM10 are worth installing a less stable OS. I was also curious if i would have to reinstall the OS after every few updates. Or should I just stick with the stable CM9 and wait for a more stable CM10 release?
Thanks

To be honest man try both. Cm9 stable is going to give you a great experience IMO. I was rocking cm10 and AOKP both tons of fun. But!! I could stand the glitches, but that's me and I end up using CM or AOKP on every phone once there's a stable build. At the same time I love the look and feel of the tw rom and I waited so long for ics. That I can wait a bit longer for JB. The phone is so fast and amazing I don't think I really matters.. cuz its better than the icrap. I would flash jb cm10 or AOKP and live the life of a true flasher then if you can't stand it use Cm9 til a stable version of the jb comes out. Or do what I do.. use one of the amazing stock Rom's til jb comes and go crazy on a stable build. But once again that's me. I use Netflix and I love have consent controlled volume on my phone. Now I'm not knocking all the hard work of TASK or Cyanogenmod both are amazing! I mean the preview builds are great! But I need stable for work and as of now my vaca.
