Very slowly download a rooted kernel from your phone and flash it with "mobile odin" from the android marketplace .... then download a rom like calkulin's rom using your phone's 3g/ 4g and boot into recovery and flash it ....
i think you would need something besides the stock browser to be able to download those types of files though ...

Download the auto root package from here using your phone
[ROOT][NCIQ][EG30/EG31/EK02] Auto root your existing stock ROM (w/o ODIN/ROM Flash)
Download the Samsung Epic 4G Touch USB/Android drivers to your phone from here
E4GT USB/Android Drivers
Connect your phone to your PC using USB cable. A MTP device will show up in My Computer. Open that device and copy the files to your computer.
Disconnect your phone from your computer.
Install the USB/Android drivers.
Then follow the directions in the first thread.
Choose Option A to root
Choose Option C to install EG30+CWM.
That will get you rooted with CWM.
To install Calkulin's ROM, download the ROM to your phone.
Boot to CWM by powering down phone and waiting until all the capacitative button lights are off. Then press and hold [Power][VolUp]
Choose install from sd card and choose internal SD. Then choose Calkulin's ROM file.

mobile odin
mobile odin requires root to be used ... could use
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340425
this works and you can download to your phone and transfer to computer and root it

Deleted.....

Wow!! u guys are awesome. im gonna try to do this now & ill let u know how it goes! really appreciate all your help!

[Q] Forced eL30 update Can i still root?

So my FF cam wasnt working along with a few other things on my phone so i took it to sprint and paid 30$ some odd dollars to fix.... When i get my phone back i realized they upgraded my software.... [email protected]#K.
I am now on GB EL30 2.3.6 and am searching for a root method... So far i have read that there is no solid root for this version yet and may not be for some time??
Here is where i need help... Am i wrong here? Is there a root for 2.3.6 GB out there?
Does the Gingerbreak work for this version... I have a feeling that it wont.... Can anyone confirm?
IF there is no way to root this version, will i be able to go back to an older version and root my phone ? like 2.3.whatever?
Thanks for the Help guys!!
Gingerbreak doesn't work....You have to odin in a recovery to flash su and it won't stick afterwards so make sure you have a su.zip flash the recovery make sure auto reboot isn't checked and 3 finger salute and flash su and reboot you'll be stock with su permissions.. I do think some kernels will actually work on it though I've read tw.bml samurai kernel works fine.

Let me know if im getting this right,
Step 1. Get my phone connected to odin (uncheck auto reboot)
2. Flash a recovery (do you know where i can get one)
3. boot pressing power volume up and camera button and Flash su.zip?
I have a feeling im doing something wrong here please let me know, and THANKS for the help!!!

That is correct, for a recovery look for cwm5 in the development stickies, make sure its a .tar file extension and not a .zip

It's volume down. And make sure you add the power button last.

Okay wait let me update there is now a custom el30 kernel so do this.
Make sure you have the custom kernel .zip before going step by step sorry wrote this up in a hurry.
1. Get your su.zip and your recovery.tar(which ever recovery) and get odin to recognise and so forth.
2. Odin in the recovery.tar and make sure auto reboot isn't checked.
3. Hold power button, camera button, and volume down to boot into recovery and Flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1460540 scroll to find the .zip link. Once this is flashed flash su.zip
4. Boot up and you'll be rooted with with a custom recovery

I cant get Odin to work on the computers at work, im assuming they don’t let users have the privileges that it takes to run this program and complete this operation so I will have to wait till im home to use Odin but I will report back later.
Yes this will be stock rooted... and there isn't an exploit for our stock kernels anymore samsung got smart I guess.... root calls for a modded kernel now anyways yes this will be just what you need for tethering

One more thing, will this recovery work?

Thanks again guys, been very helpfull.
Here's the steps I used, but, I understand that toadlife now has a clean Kernel EL30 that takes the place of deleting the recovery script (that overwrites your CWM on reboot):
1. Attach phone to PC and mount...then copy the su zip file to the root of your SD card. Then unmount and unhook phone from pc.
2. Open Odin and uncheck everything. Put the CWM5.2.0.7 tar under PDA
3. Power off phone and then hold the Keyboard "1" key and Power at same time until phone gets the yellow triangle and says "Download Mode"
4. Attach the usb cable to PC and wait for a Yellow box to illuminate on Odin.
5. Now hit start and wait until it turns green and says "Pass"and the script has stopped running (the last line is something like 1 Pass 0 fail)
6. Unplug phone and remove battery (to get out of download mode without booting)
7. Now reinsert battery and 3 finger salute to CWM...from there, choose and install the su zip (now you are rooted).
8. Reboot and use your Root Explorer or other root explorer to go to system/etc and find the installer-recovery.sh file and delete it (you have to click Mount in Root Explorer to allow it to delete a system file).
9. Now power off and go back to download mode again and go into Odin with the CWM tar again, but make sure you check Autoreboot this time.
10. Now reinstall CWM with Odin like you did above.
If you use the kernel flash we mentioned above you can save yourself steps 8-10.

yes, but I think you have to delete the .md5 extension off the .tar file. Mine just has .tar at the end.

Instructions copied from the general forum.
1. Odin flash cwm 5.0.27 with reboot checked off (nothing checked), put file in pda.
2. when its done, unplug data cable and pull out battery.
without rebooting system.
3. vol down, camera, power, to get into cwm recovery
4. install su.zip and reboot the phone (now you have root)
http://downloads.androidsu.com/super...fgh-signed.zip
5. install es explorer from market
5a. under menu/setting, check the box root explorer and mount file system
5b. browse into phone /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
delete "install-recovery.sh" script
(long press into that file and delete option will come out)
6. shut off your phone
7. odin cwm 5.0.27 again with reboot checked
8. restart, cwm and root will be stick forever.
Also Toadlife has a prerooted EL30 kernel over in the Development section.

[Q] Bad flash what are my options

Had was trying to flash to Blazer rom and i think i had a bad flash phone stays on Galexy s 2 bootscreen the one with the yellow triangle cant get in to cwm but i can get in to download mode.
Went to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101&highlight=odinand tried this method but phone wont show on computer and the drivers are installed
thanks for your help in advance
first download sfhub's el29 full restore at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
then put your phone in download mode and follow his instructions this will restore your phone to el29 stock everything with root... modem, kernel rom...
having stock kernel means no cwm and you have to flash a kernel...HOWEVER if you just download a kernel and odin it in it will give you that yellow triangle... to keep from getting the yellow triangle download the kernel you want wheter it be from team rogue or who ever else and also download flashzimage.zip from http://chris41g.devphone.org/index.php?dir=EpicTouch/
extract the files from the flashzimage.zip...should be a folder that says "flashzimage"
go to the location of the flashzimage folder open it up u will see a bunch of files...one of the files will say zimage...that is the kernel...which u are REPLACING.
open up the kernel you downloaded...from, lets say team rogue, extract the zimage...you only want the zimage... copy the zimage into the flashzimage folder replacing the zimage file that is already present
next enable debugging and connect your phone to the computer...open the flashzimage folder and click on install.bat
PLEASE NOTE... you will have to pay attention to ur phone because you will need give superuser permission
the phone will reboot when done properly
after you have your custom kernel you can put your phone in recovery mode and flash whatever ROM you were trying to flash in the first place...
if you dont mind the yellow triangle and want a less confusing method...then download the kernel package for odin and flash through odin
ALSO NOTE...you will only have to mess with the flashzimage folder once...and that is when you are putting in a custom kernel the first time...
for more specific instructions and a video see chris41g's post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297999 just skip down to where he says "this is where I come in"
thanks for reply but I Tried the steps in that thread and in download mode my phone does not recognize on my computer
That's not a very good sign...

Do you hear a "ding" when to plug into the usb port?
Just curious, did you have the touch recovery installed and flash through it?
I ask because this same thing happened to me last week. I recovered using the methods above but it took 2 tries.
Still trying to figure out what went wrong.

[Q] Help it's stucked on the samsung logo

Hey, i am kinda new to android. I first had a Samsung galaxy s, and there i had no problems flashing roms. Then i would try the Omega rom on my Note 2, and started following the instructions. I flashed the rom, but nothing happened, i was still on android 4.1.1, and it was still stock samsung rom. But then my phone started acting weird, and it became very slow, and when i put it in sleep i couldt wake it up again. Then i thought i just could flash the stock samsung rom, and it would be normal again. So i flashed the 4.1.2 from France, but i still had the same problems. So now i tried the 4.1.1 Germany, but now im just stuck at the samsung logo. I can still get it in recovery and download mode. Please help me :crying:
And sorry for my english, i know it isn't the best

Read and follow each instruction to the word and everything will be alright.
1.Download a ROM. I suggest Omega . Link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915036
2. Take out ext sd card from phone and connect to pc via card reader and transfer the downloaded rom .zip file to the card .
3.Put the card in the phone.
4.Assuming the phone is switched off, press down volume + home button+ power button(in the same order) . Keep holding it till you get Samsung logo and get into recovery mode(I hope you have clockwork mod recovery)
5.choose install zip from sdcard> choose zip from external sdcard and then select the ROM .zip file and flash it.
6.The rest should be self explanatory. Do backup your efs when the installer asks to do so. When the rom is installed , reboot and then wait. The first boot takes time. At the most 15 minutes or so.
7. Enjoy
Good luck friend.

P.S. Do hit the thanx button if you find my post helpful
Before starting to install
Clear in the order-
Data
Cache
Dalvik cache
Factory reset
System
Sdcard.
This will delete the minuteset piece of rom and data from your device.

YOu mean when you connect phone via USB?
YOu want mass storage mode?

[Q] Samsung Note II N7105T Broken

Hey All,
I have a current predicament on my hands.. I have a N7105T that I had rooted and I noticed my TWRP was out of date..So I decided to update it using an app I downloaded from the play store (Name has been lost to me) but it downloaded it and installed and updated..But I had presumed that something had gone wrong because It didn't reset on its own, so i reset it myself and after that it wouldn't load and was stuck on the boot screen (Where it tells you what phone you have)
I looked on here and found a solution, downloaded Odin and a restore TAR for my particular model..after that successfully worked I then decided to try and install a new rom on my phone...Well that was a bad idea, I did as was instructed wiped the data etc: clean installation..but for some reason it kept failing to install..
So now I cant even get into the Boot Manager and all its showing is that there was a problem with the firmware and to use Kies to fix it up, So I downloaded a stock rom from sammobile and followed the instuctions to load the rom onto my phone from another topic on this site...
It is now constantly failing when I try and use Odin to load the rom...It just hangs and then says failed in red.
I am stessing because I really need my phone and I know I should have just left it working but I like to try and experiment but unfortunately it has backfired on me.
I have the samsung drivers installed and I have one stock rom for my particular phone but I am in the process of downloading an older version.
My Provider is Telstra.
I hope I have provided enough info and not rambled on too much.
Regards
Justin
I had the same problem with you... I've learned that I shouldn't trust thing I don't download my self and read what it says.....
Anyways what I would suggest is go to twrp website and download the .tar of the recovery and use Odin to install it on to your phone and see if you can get into the recovery mode
(Volume down+power or volume up+home+power)
If that does the work install Kies onto your phone and under tools -》firmware upgrade and initialize (note you should only do this as your last resort since it'll put a boot loader that you won't want onto your phone

Ok...First I thank you for the help with Twrp
I have installed a stock rom from sammobile, I have got Twrp working but I have some problems atm
1. I cannot copy files onto my External SD Card
2. My Phone Memory is showing as Minus Storage
3. My Sim Card cannot be read from my phone.
Would you know of any fixes for these issues
Really wish I can help you but my best suggestion is to use Kies and do the firmware upgrade. ....
Sorry~

[Q] HELP! I cannot boot or enter Recovery

Ok so today I tried to flash TWRP on my Note II today through the GooManager app from the Play Store, it went well and then asked to reboot. After the reboot it is stuck on the SAMSUNG Galaxy Note II screen in all white, with a black background. I know I should try to flash the stock firmware with Odin but when in download mode (which it can enter but not the Recovery or OS) it is not detected. I have tried on a Windows XP, Vista and 7 computer with no luck on each. I have downloaded Heimdall for my Mac and again it is not detected. I have read that there could be an eMMC problem or something like that but I was working just fine like two minutes ago. Again it will not boot into either the Recovery or OS after sitting there for minutes, I can upload a photo if need be but I dont think its that hard to imagine. Oh I was on OmniRom the release the one before the one released yesterday with CWM. I wanted to update but since i was on CWM i needed to flash TWRP and it was not downloading for whatever reason so i went with the app method, which has worked before on my Xperia X10 so i was semi confident, anyway I'm rambling now... Again if anyone would be able o help me I will buy you a beer! wait I can't I'm underage, well when I turn 21 I'll buy you a beer!
Thanks!

Your phone was on OMNI ROM with CWM recovery, you installed TWRP via goo manager and since then it's not booting up, right ?
I think the easiest option now is to flash stock via ODIN. Did you ever connect your phone using USB ?
Are you trying with the cable that came along with this phone ? I know samsung drivers can get messy, try installing KIES it will automatically install the appropriate drivers, then exit KIES and start odin with Admin right(right click-> Run as Administrator).
If you have a full back-up and if Odin works try flashing CWM first via ODIN and the reboot in to recovery and restore your backup.

I tried installing Kies, closing it with Task Manager and then using both Odin v3.07 and v1.8.5. With both they never detected my phone, and in Heimdall it still does not recognize my phone. And yes that is exactly what happened.
Oh and Windows finally said something and it said that the usb device connected cannot be recognized...
Sorry fixed it!
Yeah so... The USB cable I was using was broken or whatever so I changed it and yeah its detected, thanks anyway!
Glad to know it's fixed.
