I apologize for this question in advance if it's already been answered. Forum & Google searches haven't really given me a clear-cut answer.
I'm currently running Stock DI18, rooted, with CWM 2.5.1 installed.
As with many, I'm patiently waiting the arrival of the Official 2.2 Froyo Update.
Will I still be able to receive this update OTA, or will I need to flash DI18 in Odin to restore Android Stock Recovery in order for the update to push through?
Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you have to go back. I have read it before just not sure where!!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
You will need the stock recovery to OTA, but if you have the patience to wait a bit over an hour from the release the OTA will be pre-rooted and packaged into a flashable .zip
Thanks for the quick replies, folks. I may do the flash. However, since I don't really plan on flashing custom ROMs on this device (My TP2 didn't really give me an option not to), I may just flash back to Stock Recovery and re-root using z4Root.
Does z4Root grant SU and keep Stock Recovery?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
z4root gives su (root) and doesn't touch the recovery. I don't know if it installs busybox or not (which may not be important to you)
You can flash back to stock when the update comes or you can wait for the pre-rooted cwm flashable update that will come out within a day of the official release.

Thanks. Just Googled to see what Busybox does, and it doesn't seem like something that's important to me. Only reason I've rooted is to use Wireless Tether.

How long does it take the devs to root the OTA and slap it into an odin with CWM injected?
Since the OTA starts tomorrow, are we looking at 1 more day? or a week?

Probably 20 minutes after someone gets the file to a DEV. It doesn't take long to repackage with CWM and root.

That depends on the DEVs free time. Custom ROM's with all enhancements generally won't be see until full source drops with a tar. This has been generally been done the night of the OTA but so far nothing on Samsung's site except the kernel. You will see themed ROMs with kernel enhancements real soon though. Usually before your get the OTA notification if you are in the last 50% in the queue.
I don't see why you wont be able to just odin acs recovery and then flash su.zip

i'm hoping this is soon, easiest way for me to do the stupid modem is with odin espeically since i'm on eh17.

My thoughts exactly.
Afterwards go into your system\app directory (using root explorer) and make some room (delete the Asphalt Demo) and then install BusyBox (busybox installer on the market).
note: my busybox wouldn't go in until after I restarted my phone.
I don't want to fuss with deleting one thing to run another. Seems like the best option is an Odin package but looks like that will be a while. Everyone is focusing on zip packages and multi step processes.

^this. I'm waiting on a one shot package that will wipe my phone and I can start from fresh.
Right now there are a lot of things I want/need so that's why I'm holding off on updating to GB, if I ever do.
I see fixes for some issues:
Logsprovider
Hotspot hack
No CIQ
Root
Busybox
Super user
But nothing really in one odin .tar file yet.
If you choose to do the OTA, you must Odin a custom kernel before Odin of clockwork or else clockwork won't stick and you will be shot back into stock recovery. I used mkasik's EI22 keyfix kernel but nubernal should work as well.
Not really what you are looking for, but if you get tired of waiting and try to go stock OTA or just flash the google download you will run into that issue which stumped me for a bit.
I'm gonna wait... im just surprised that more people aren't asking about this.

HUGE thanks to kingsway8605 because without him, we would NOT have gotten this done. He spent hours getting a hold of this .zip, flashing this, odin'ing that, please appreciate what he did for us!!
Thanks to everyone else for getting the constant help - shabbypenguin, chris41g, T.C.P, graffixnyc, digits, and everyone else who helped out!!
No one but you is responsible if anything happens to your phone!
Please read everything before flashing and proceed with caution!

EK02 Baseband/Radio
EK02 Radio
You can flash this right over your current ROM right from recovery but ONLY IF YOU ARE ON EG30 RADIO!! This is an update for that radio and that radio only! Don't be alarmed, it will take a few seconds to flash it. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that we don't have a stock EG30 radio, only EG12 or EG31. You can flash those if you want to get off of the EK02 modem, but hopefully this radio will eliminate LoS!

Thanks, once again, to kingsway8605!!
Just a note on some of the posts I am seeing in the thread:
(1) I haven't had the update long enough to say if it fixes the LoS for everyone, but since I received it yesterday I have not received an LoS when I used to get them all the time. Your mileage may vary. The screencap below shows what you should have if you install everything correctly.
(2) I am not a dev, I am just lucky. The great devs viper mentioned in his post spent a lot of time helping me get the update off of my phone. Methods of extracting the update.zip that worked with older phones did not work with this phone, which only complicated the process.
If you cannot install it, it is not our fault. You knew the risks when hacking your phone. I only received an OTA and the great devs were able to help me extract this OTA from my phone. At this point, it appears that even when the official OTA update is pushed to your phone, that it will still fail. The moden update only works on EG30 phones, period. Unless a dev can pull some amazing hackery or Samsung gives us a full tar, you are just going to have to wait. The kernel update should work just fine. If you are not EG30, I recommend Calk's EK02 ROM in another thread.
(3) As pointed out in (2), you hack your phone at your own risk. While this is an official OTA pushed to me by Sprint, it was pushed to ME by Sprint and not you. I have a person to call if this OTA screws up my future update path, but I have no idea how this will affect your future update path. INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK.
(4) The update includes some very minor UI enhancements and minor bug fixes in addition to the LoS fix.
yay we did it
cant WAIT to see what comes of this. thanks!

You have to be stock EG30 as Chris said, but still working on it.
Flashing the modem .zip returns an error... file is 170kb? Possible upload error?

I believe you have to be stock EG30 to flash the update.zip - you should be able to flash just the modem regardless of what ROM/Modem you're currently running. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Read the Auto Root thread, it will give you pointers to get EL29 rooted.
Basically just flash the pre-rooted EL29 ODIN One-Click in my signature to get root. If you want CWM, use the Auto Root package, Option C, to install EL29+CWM-Rogue.

well for some urge, i just want newest bootloaders, official untouched software loaded onto my phone. I'm finding these ROMs to be not as good as stock. For example dialer codes on deodexed ROMS can't do "*#0*#". I just want temp root to gett rid of bloat, apply the tethering mod, and then remove root. I just dont want my files to be pre modified or touched by someone.
There is no root exploit available in the way you want at the moment. However, I can assure you that if you flash the pre-rooted EL29 ODIN One-Click, then do whatever cleanup you want, then use Auto Root Option B to unroot, you will be at 100% stock Modem, Kernel, and ROM (except for the changes YOU made)
I'm not sure the distinction you are making is really significant, as adding 3 files to the ROM, doing your thing, then removing them isn't going to result in any "changes" in behavior, certainly not the ones you listed above.
The packages I put together are not custom ROMs. They are the minimum needed to get root. Nothing else is changed. The changes made to add root are completely reversible by running Option B in Auto Root.

How come people installing AIO over your EL29 are having issues compared to those who put AIO on Calk's pulled odex stock EL29? Those type of discrepancies get me frustrated. I'm not saying anything is wrong, but idk :/
the issues on the pre-rooted EL29 can be pointed out in the AIO thread
I think i found a way to try out tomorrow.
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper
I can use that to keep root after taking an OTA. so i can use auto root from EG30 stock and use that app to preserve root with the OTA
A review from the app:
"Kept Root After Upgrade to Sprint Epic 4G
Epic 4g is the Sprint version of the Galaxy II. I installed the app before doing an OTA upgrade today. I backed up root. I did the over the air upgrade, no more root access. I opened OTA RootKeeper, pressed the button for restore, and I have root again. AMAZING!"

Hi Im new to XDA and I have the Epic 4g touch, now I just saw that Sprint is finally releasing the ICS update on July 12th and I was wondering if there is a way to root my phone after the update WITHOUT losing any data. Or should I root the phone before the update on gingerbread but would I be able to update to ICS with root still intact?

As long as you don't apply a rom or remove any bloatware you'll get the ota, and when you accept, you'll lose root.
Thought apparently there's an app called ota root keeper or something along those lines in the market that'll alow you to keep root

Great Advice Thanks
Score
I had the same question. Thanks for the heads-up.
Im digging the new xda theme!
If you just want stock + root you can get sfhub's Odin one click NODATA package in the Dev forum. Based on the screenshot from AC this is the build that is going to be pushed by OTA.
And for people thinking that they may pack something else in - any change usually requires a new RDF. No new rdf means it's 99.9999% the same that we already have. So no need to wait for OTA either IMHO.
So just to clarify, if I download the one click from odin without data restore on gingerbread the dev team will have a OTA update for this version with root access still intact? And how will I know that they released the OTA update and how to download it?
