Hi
Need your help please. I have read though the topics similar to this posted earlier but it does not solve the issue.
My phone is not detected either in mtp mode or mass storage mode by the computer.
I think i deleted a stock application Connected To(i think thats the name) and thats when the problem started. I need help in reinstalling this app if possible.
Additional info:
- The app mtpappgb is already installed in my system/app folder.
- I get no options in the notification bar regarding debugging or connecting the SDcard.
- Have already installed the correct USB drivers on the pc and also the latest version of PC companion on the phone which leads me to believe that its a missing app from the phone.
Appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks
Shayne
Hi Mods,

Does anyone know if the Galaxy S is supposed to transfer drivers when attached to a machine via usb? I've tried installing samsung usb drivers/multiple kies versions on both xp and windows 7 x86 machines however I've not once got the device installed. The first machine I tried it on did register the device Samsung_android had been attached however after factory resting it now appears as 'unkown. If it does install drivers, would it be possible to retrieve them from the galaxy s source? Would flashing the phone with a custom rom include the device drivers?
I would really appreciate any suggestions, I love the device but I've been trying to resolve this issue since I bought the phone
By default it uses Kies when you connect it via USB, go into options - About Phone - USB Settings and choose "ask me what to do" then you can choose MTP to mount it as a USB drive, choose it as a modem, etc. You need to go into the slide-down notifications menu and click on MTP mode then. For Mac's you need to enable USB debugging as well.
Thanks for your reply however I've tried connecting using each of the connection options. I am given the option to mount the internal SD card and lists 'MTP conneced' but the machine it's connected to still lists 'unkown device' within dev manager. I've also tried enabling USB debugging but even adb doesn't list the galaxy s.
Regardless of the device setting windows still displays 'device not recognized'. I've looked at the drivers within samsung\usb_driver but the folders are listed by development alias so its hard to determine which driver is for the i9000 I read on a forum that someone had this problem and Samsung replaced the drivers on the galaxy, I'm not sure if that's true or it was some other fix but if the galaxy does provide the machine with drivers maybe I can extract them and install directly to the machine
I don't have access to the NAND as I have not rooted it, but if you want I can do a directory listing of the internal SD and you can see what you are missing. I can then copy the files for you.

I like this community already, thanks mate but you don't have to go to the trouble. I returned the device to vodafone for a replacement. The replacement connected first time and I can now access the device without any problems
No doubt others will have this issues so...
Galaxy S "unknown Device" - If you have tried
Installing Samsung USB drivers for your operating system (There are both x86(32bit) and x64(64bit) versions of these drivers for windows.
Setting the Galaxy S to MTP on usb connect (Settings>About Phone>USB settings
Resetting your Galaxy S to factory settings (Settings>Privacy>Factory Reset)
Enabling usb debugging (Settings>Application>Development)
Formatting your internal SD card (Settings>SD Card..) Unmount before and re mount after formatting
Installing various versions of keis bloatware
and your Galaxy S is still listed as "unknown device" within windows device manager. Try taking it back to the store and asking for a replacement, this was the only step which worked for me and it worked first time Remember to explain all the steps you've taken and if you have to, ask for a demonstration of the device successfully connecting before you accept that there isn't an issue.
No worries, glad you are sorted now.
First of all hello to all and thank you very much for the provided info on this forums.
I just got my first smartphone and I want to get root access on my phone.
After searching this forums for 2 days and asking some people around here for some help no one could give me an answer so here it goes.
I wanna root my Gio using SuperOneClick. Downloaded the latest version followed all the steps but my problem is that when I set me phone on debug mode from Settings > Application > Development and then connect it to the pc my phone does not go into debugging mode. The only option that I have on the status bar is "Select to copy files from/to your Computer"
I have latest Kies installed, latest pc drivers, latest usb drivers. I have tried on a second pc with win7 32bit version and with a secondary cable. I tried hard reset and also removing phone battery and all that stuff.
Running 2.3.3 firmware.
Any idea what can I do ?
Make sure anything related to kies is off, use task manager on pc, browse to processes and kill kies related services
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
Already done that. Except for this everything else works on the phone.
Also tried with sd card on and sd card off with sim on and sim off both sim and sd off still nothing.
Ok is done.
For some of the phones that are in Romania atm you can enable usb debugging but nothing will happen no notification no nothing so the only method to root your gio is with Universal_GB_Root_v5.
I found this after 4 days of constant searching for a solution for my phone.
Thank you very much to all the people that pmed me and the people that reply here.
If anyone needs some help with this and links to donload the root zip you can give me a pm.
Topic can be close.
Dear members,
After connecting the HOX with the USB cable, the phone is not recognized
as a SD card/Disk Drive, but as a camera only.
Is it a permanent function of JB, if NO, pls help to rectify it.
Note:- USB debugging is ON
My phone is stock
Sync manager uptp date, but still not recognizing.
JB uses the mtp file transfer protocol, please search for this. It has been mentioned a lot here ! And there are enough posts already regarding this "problem" !
here is the thread you need:

Maybe your phone was damage. Did you recently bought that phone? If yes, then the concern maybe is the device itself.
But try install the latest driver for LU6200 [Make sure to download it in LG Mobile Korea] and maybe it would help. Make sure the computer is detecting your phone as you connect it.
Hope this will help you.

But Whats About Debugging Not Working?
Also Its your Suggestion Possible Without Root?As USB Debugging is not working and im unable to Root
Hi all...I am new to XDA forum, but have been browsing in the trove of information to help with my problem. At the end I am resorting to posting a new thread to hopefully help me in resolving this problem or provide a good explanation why it does not work.
Problem: I am trying to use the USB cable to transfer files to my SD Card. (I am not sure what reason, but someone has informed me that either Samsung's proprietary software Kies does NOT work, you can only transfer using Samsung KIES Air...which is painfully slow.)
Now here is my situation:
1. I have a Bell Canada - Samsung Galaxy Note-2
2. The Phone has been unlocked and rooted (using Odin)
GOAL:
- I don't care if I need to transfer files to the SD card, and then sort the files out afterwards on the phone.
- Primary goal is to allow me to transfer files (music, mp3, etc.) via USB cable.
Your help is greatly appreciated...in providing some sort of clear cut instructions or directions.
Thank you in advance.

I know you didn't ask for this, but could you possibly use Airdroid? It has always been reliable for me and honestly it's my best solution for myself because we don't actually have UMS anymore, sigh.
Airdroid Vs. Kies Air
Thanks for the response and recommendation.
So is Airdroid? better or the same as Kies Air?

I've never used Kies so I can't say!
But basically, you download the app from google play and go to web.airdroid.com and you type in the code that you see in the app. From there you can read your phone's text messages and transfer files and do other things via your wifi connection. File transfer on my (good) wifi network is fairly fast (about the same as using a usb cord) and it's good for me because I personally use Ubuntu and Chrome OS, so the USB storage options don't work or don't work well.
usb driver
All you need is go to samsung website and install the usb driver. You should have an option to do this during the kies installation too.

Just in case, make sure that MTP is checked in USB computer connection.
*Settings>Storage> Menu button>USB computer connection> check Media device (MTP)*
I know it may seem obvious to some but it does get overlooked sometimes.
Cheers!

In regards to the downloading the 'Samsung Driver' I have already attempted that, and with no luck of cooperating. Under 'device Manager' in Window 7. The listed device when I plug-in the phone is "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" with an exclamation mark. I have been trying to try the driver files so I can 'direct' the appropriate drivers file. But no luck locating it. The Samsung Kies installation mention that it has installed, but no luck.
MTP Option:
In regards to the MTP, I do not have that option available on my phone, the only thing avaliable is through the 'Developer option -> Checking/Unchecking USB debugging'
Please Help! :crying:
I have download the driver form the Samsung.com website.
Now, It doesn't technically allow to choose my specific phone model, with my carrier (BELL), so I went with the closest ATT.
I have located the folder with the USB driver, and force window to look through it.
But still windows says it cannot find the correct driver for my device....this is getting frustrating.
HELP...help...help...

That is odd. Do you have a Storage category under System Settings? It should show you available space on internal and sd storage. What happens when you hit the menu button? (button to the left of the home button)
When you connect your USB cable, do you get a notification that says "Connected as a media device"?
Heres what you do.
Make sure you have current samsung usb drivers. Redownload just for fks sake.
Yeah idk wtf ms prob is but its got issues with samsung phones.
So ok drivers gtg?
Plug in phone
Wait for annoying pop up.
Leave phone pluged in and on restart computer.
You should get the all clear but first it may give you the cant recognize drivers thing give it a min should work.
Other solution
Download this

Basically just keep going back and forth witj mtp and mount you should kick it in.
And you may need to restart computer.
Sgs3 easy wotks pretty good for me.
You gotta make sure you have the microsoft mtp update installed.
Pia I know.

I'm sorry. That is my bad. It looks like those options are not available on the stock rom. I thought they were. The option is there on CM.
It looks like it is probably a driver issue. If your computer is not recognizing your device when it is plugged in, it could also be a bad USB cable. If you can try a different cable, see if something different happens when you plug in your phone.
Worst comes to worst, you may just have get a card reader and connect your sd card to your computer that way.
1. Is cable good? It may be sending incomplete signal. The fault could be your device's usb port or cable or pc usb port.
1a. test device with another known working usb cable
1b. test cable with another known working device
2. Is PC port good?
2a. Plug a different, known working USB device into port, do other devices work?
2b. Plug device into another usb port on PC, not into usb hub or front usb ports.
2c. Does it successfully connect for transfer with another PC?
3. Is driver good?
(This is most likely your problem, but a bad usb device, cable, or port can make it more difficult to troubleshoot. )
3a. Re-download driver. BUT BEFORE YOU DO...
use a different browser to download or delete your browser's cache. (Attempting to redownload may just be grabbing the already known poor copy.)
3b. Run Windows Update after driver is installed.
If still having problems.
Search for, download, and run the portable program usbdeview. Attached USB devices will be highlighted. See if it shows up to the system and what it is being recognized as.
It sounds like either a bad driver install or conflicting program/setting.
Turn off antivirus temporarily to rule that out.
