Hello everyone, I shattered the glass screen on my T-989. Digitizer still works and the phone is running fine0. Im really bummed out ....anyways I have insurance but I would rather pay $50-80 for the part and do it myself than pay the deductible of $130. I have searched for the glass screen but I think our device is too new for anyone to make it...any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to whomever can help
digitizer and all is one piece.. it is 150$ and only can be gotten from samsung

Those are LCD replacements. They are not AMOLED.
Same thing happen to me the other day. I paid the $130 deductible and had a new one the next day. Unfortunately my Ghost Armor couldn't protect the phone from my butterfingers.
oh i c.. it does say LCD lol my bad... how great would it be if they can do an upgraded superamoled plus HD ?

thanks for the input...taking the time to get the screen and installing it into consideration i will just have to do the insurance claim. Thanks
Samsung charges $160 to fix the screen. It happened to mine two weeks ago. They also pay for shipping. I had no insurance but still feel paying full price to get it repaired is better than paying that deductible + monthly payments for insurance. Anyways I heard it only takes a week for the turn around time.
I have the Telus T989D (same screen) but am now living in the Middle East and cannot get the part here, any idea how I can get it replaced over here?
Samsung Middle East is sort of useless.

Kind of ressing a dead post, but found this. at 182 dollars, cheapest I can find out on the market right now... recently my phone has suffered a glass shattering as well....
i found an ebayer selling at 250, but became unlisted after a few days (prob sold out right now) and a few other stores selling for 250.
It's going to be hard to find a screen cheap. The screens alone are between 225-250 thats not including if you're paying somebody for the labor. Quite honestly you're better off buying one second hand. Due to the nature of the screen glass and digitizer being married together to create the slim feel it also brings more expense in replacement...and get the insurance next time...its only 25 cents a day.

reason why I dont get insurance is cause there's an extra deductible. of at least 110-130. On top of that, they' might send you a refurbished one, not actually just repairing your phone. And that one may come with more problems than its worth. I definitely don't think insurance is worth it.
You'll end up paying 250 to replace the screen through a 3rd party repair shop, 180 if you do it yourself, or 280 (130 deductible plus 150 insurance cost over 20 months) over the life of the phone to repair a broken screen. If you go the insurance route, you'll pay 150ish regardless if you break your screen or not.
$162 at Samsung
It is $162 directly through Samsung. That covers 2nd day air both ways and the repair. Six day turn around and real time repair tracking. It is truly the only way to do it.
They expedite it since it is such a new device really I don't see how you could choose any other way!

square trade has a 50 dollar deductible. And I believe the fine print says you can file a claim only once every 2 years. If you file a claim in the first year, you'll have to buy new coverage.
Essentially, insurance is a company that is trying to make money, so I don't see how it is a good investment. But if you do go for square trade, google 30% off or 20% off coupons. They send them out fairly frequent.

Are they selling the white screens? May pick one up along with the white battery cover if the price is right
So my phone fell out of my hands today onto my hardwood floor and the screen shattered. Of course since it was my fault I had to file a claim with my favorite company of all time [/sarcasm], Asurion. Well I filed my claim and was informed that I will be receiving a refurb. Joy of joys.
Now, the question is, the screen is shattered but I'm fairly certain that download mode can still be accessed and I do believe my counter is at 1. Is that going to void my insurance? Does anyone know? If it does, I have 15 days to figure out how to get the counter reset. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance all!
insurance doesn't care if its rooted . You filed because its damaged. Insurance covers anything not covered in warranty.

I have GMG insurance and i believe if you request a brand new phone, you get one.
Oh thats good to know. UNfortunately here in the states Asurion only gives you what they want. So I have no hope of getting a brand new phone even if I request one. They'll just tell me to be happy with what I have an shut the hell up. I am glad to know that I'm safe even though I am rooted. Makes me feel a little better. My current SGS2 is a beast and seeing as others have had problems that I NEVER had with my GS2 I really hope the new one I get is just as good. I'm praying hard lol.

@AllGamer: I thought about going that route. But I just feel like the phone would never be the same. Instead I'll pray that the QC Goblins at Asurion are good at what they do.
Maybe I'm just naive!
Our screen is that easy to break? I have the D30 case but i'm still concerned this could happen. Thought the screen was built with gorilla glass?
I think most people here hate cases including my self but I still wear one, this accidents always happen to everyone so why would people risk destroying a 550 dollar phone?
Dude that sucks! Gorilla glass even has a weakness. I've dropped mine once and got lucky but still left a nice little gash in the upper right corner.
That's what we have insurance for. I couldn't imagine not insuring this 500 dollar device.

This place lists as OEM, even if it is listed at LCD. OEM is OEM as far as I know. If it's not then it's false advertisement.
i can't say for sure, but a screen protector + a D3O case makes a pretty good formula
it saved my T989 twice on what would have been 2 fatal accidents
you can find both of my old topics in General
one was face down drop
the other was submerged in water
.../AG ***knocks on wood*** and hopes this doesn't jinx it the 3rd time
Gorilla Glass makes it more likely that the phone will shatter when dropped. Gorilla glass works because it hardens the screen to protect against scratches. The downside is the process that hardens the glass makes it cracking and shattering more likely

These ads are not written by tech people. It is physically impossible to fit an lcd screen and the needed digitizer into the same space as the amoled screen. It just won't work. They are thicker and need a back light, and that's just the panel. If it fits it is amoled. If it says Samsung on the back of the panel it is probably oem. I don't know if these are being counterfeited yet. It a very involved process to make the displays and probably not profitable to make fakes... at least ones that work.

$130 deductible? How much is the monthly insurance payment?
Hoping to hear from people who have dealt with this before. Cracked my screen pretty badly but luckily (relatively...) it still works as far as i know. I don't have insurance and while I'm gonna deal with it for now I'd eventually like to get it replaced, fixed, or upgrade to a new phone. What are ballpark figures for cost considering my contract isn't up for another year and a half and i don't have insurance? What would you do if you were in my situation?

newalker91 said:
Sprint will not repair the screen, so that's not an option. Replacing the phone would be around $250 cheapest for a used device, $550 for a retail price device. Sending it in to a 3rd party repair company would cost you the $150 for the screen plus hourly labor, making it closer to $200. Factor in shipping cost and you may as well buy a phone.
Replacing the screen is easy. Undo the 6 philips head screws in the back housing, work a thin plastic wedge around the rim and pop the housing off. Undo the two screws on the board, unclip the ribbon cables, reverse the process onto the new screen. Takes about 15 minutes if you haven't done it before.

Sprint won't allow that. If that were the case everybody would be doing that.
If I were you I would buy dude's screen who is posted above this post and after that I would go on YouTube to see if I could find a video on how to assemble or replace the Epic touch's screen. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
If I helped you out in any way please thank me. Thanks.
If the Insurance was added the best you could do is process and insurance claim and get a refurbished phone for $100.
Changing out the screen is pretty simple. Just make sure you watch the camera connection at the top and the one at the bottom of the board. Every DIYer seems to miss those two.
It's very unfortunate that our assemblies cost so much, when the iphone assembly is like 40 bucks and to get it installed will run about 90 if you don't do it yourself. Our phone seriously needs cheaper replacement parts.

You can search on Craigslist and eBay for phones with bad esn. And simply make one working out of two.
You can ask on forums for people who bricked their phones beyond returning point and sprint refuses to help them.
But of the guy above gives you a good deal. Take it.

Yes, I went in the day it happened and asked if they could replace it or what my options were. Other than buying a new phone for retail price, they said they couldn't do anything and didn't even do the repairs themselves. They just referred me to World of Wireless (I called them and they were charging $250 for the 'custom order' repair they'd have to do).
Buy a new one off Amazon for $8.00 and install it yourself. It take about a half hour and save a bunch of money

I just got my Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) replaced and am so glad I have Asurion insurance. Yeah it costs like $6 a month, but when I needed a new phone it came in really handy.
I set up a claim online (mine was lost/stolen but this could apply to yours too) and then paid $99 and got a replacement (probably a refurb) the next day. It was actually less than 24 hours from when I set up the claim online and when my phone arrived via UPS. That's pretty good service.
So if you would spend $60 on only a screen but have to do major surgery to install it, maybe it would be a better deal to pay $99 and get a whole new device.
Id really appreciate some tips on changing the glass on the GN. I have watched a few youtube clips on removing the frame/chassis/body but none on removing the glass.
Any tips or pointers on changing the glass would really help me incase i really screw it up!
The small bit of glass which fell out looks like it was held in by double sided tape. Is it a case i need a heat gun and just gently heat the glass and pull it off to replace it?
Thanks
N
My advice is buy the glass with digitizer already attached. I did the swap last month using glass+digitizer and it was very easy to do. I got it from this seller on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190766646656
Afaik the front glass is fused together to the digitizer making it very difficult to replace, a heat gun could be used but be careful. As a few other posters mentioned, buy the glass with the digitizer attached already. Much faster and easier repair. I will be doing it soon as I have purchased a cracked but otherwise working i-9250 nexus.

Broken Screen
My 23 year old daughter paid for the phone and pays for the service. She still lives at home. But a daddy still wants to make the hurt go away.
We have the insurance but the $175 is more than the $149 down payment. It will be a life lesson that she can afford. The funny thing is that I bought her a $6 (it's not really a case) soft cover that sticks up a little past the screen level. She said it slipped out of her hand. I've done that many times with my S3 with no problem.
I was hoping for a suggestion to get around any payment. All I could find in a search was that the S4 broke easier than a Iphone 5. If, sometime in the near future it is shown that the screens are "defective" that I was hoping to make a claim.
Back to reality. She'll pay for it. Then maybe a heavy duty case.
Thanks for the comments.

If you paid with some kind of credit card most companies have a 90 warranty on the phone, covering loss (wink wink) and other accidents. I would get in contact with my CC company and find out what kind of purchase protection they have before dishing out any more cash

There is almost no way it's been 30 days considering most T-Mobile pre-orders shipped within the past week or two.
He can still buy the $99 SqT warranty.
I broke an N2 screen and the cost to repair by Samsung was $178 including taxes and 2 day shipment bot ways.
If the glass is cracked but the screen still works OK (mine did), there was a tread where the glass only was available for $25 and the OP replaced it only. I requires skill and patience and some other materials and possibly tools, but it was the cheapest path.
