Screen Problems? - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I'm planning to buy myself A100 or A500 from frys or bestbuy so that I'll make myslef huge gift for Christmas. I've seen a lot of youtube reviews of A100, the ones in polish and in english language. Then there is quite huge polish community on the android.com.pl site. They make really good reviews for different Android powered devices. They also made a review for Iconia A101 (is it the same as A100?). The author is really disappointed because of the screen surface. He says it's very harsh and rough, and it is very difficult to make precise moves on the screen, which actually disqualifies this tablet, as the screen is one of the most important things in this kind of device. Did anyone had same problem? I'm planning to buy it on sunday this weekend, and ask for shippment to Poland. Unfortunatelly there is no A101 in my home city Gdynia, so I cannot check the screen by myslef. As asked before is A101 same as A100? Or the Frys.com/Bestbuy.com model is quite different? Anyway I can see that it's very hard to buy A100 in California. Frys.com unavailable, bestbuy unavailable,tigerdirect,target.com sold as well, so maybe I will change to A500. But if I'll find one, can someone say something about choppy, harsh, rough surface? Anyway if someone would experience that, he would write a post about it.

My understanding is that the A101 is the optional SIM card version.
not sure what they mean by harsh and choppy.....its physically a smooth surface. there is an angle at which the screen is slightly distorted, but no different than a laptop screen. I rarely view my A100 at 170 degree angle.
do you have a link to this review? just out of curiosity.

Yes I do have but I believe You need to use google translate, and I don't know if it will translate correctly
Actually I cannot paste it because : " To prevent spam to the forums, ALL new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages. After approximately eight posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thanks for understanding!"
At the begining of the "screen review of A101" he says about those view angles, and then (below the pictures) he says :
Google did translate it quite accurately saying
"Another annoying feature of screen used in the A101 Iconia Acerze concerns its surface. I had the opportunity to commune with virtually most commercially available tablets, but none of them had no such ills as the tested model. This device has an extremely rough surface of glass, which does not interfere with selecting objects, but makes itself felt in operations that require dragging your finger across the screen. Prevents too nice to play with games that require high precision targeting, such as Arma II. The rough surface does not allow to achieve high precision, and with prolonged contact is very unpleasant. It does not help in this regard regular cleaning, or are other treatments, you just have to get used to it."
After I showed You this part, I admit that Your reply to this post would be much more then appreciated.

Heres a picture of my Frys.com purchased a100. As you can see its prefectly smooth like normal glass. Notice the smooth perfect reflection.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what he's implying. He must've had his fingers in the honey pot. I think he's being a little hyper critical. I haven't had any problems playing games.
I mean I guess it really depends on the condition of your fingertips. I wouldn't say it's much different than rubbing your fingers across any other clean glass surface.

X1 Deskstand (DIY 1.0)

I saw a very interesting topic and I trans. it here.
We used a geniue desk stand by Sony Ericsson, model appears to be CDS-71, brought it online, cheap stuff.
The most important things to do is add a small MiniUSB port on the side of black plastic opponent. Pretty simple, huh ? (refer to the pics, please)
In my opinion, my stand is way much better than those 3rd party's product, and kept the original Sony Ericsson style.
And please choose the real good USB cables and not too long, otherwise it will weaken the signal.
Here comes the pictures!

thanks 'ewurk' from sebbs.it168.com for his craftmanship!
That's amazing! Would you be up for me buying one from you? If so PM me how much, and I'll paypal it to you.
Was there a reason you chose to go portrait? It seems harder to plug the X1 in that way
Would like to make one myself but it's hard to find CDS-71 in the states....
how much u sell for
i looked in ebay for this CDS 71 and did not find any. the same for the official SE site
I think Lucif3r was simply quoting another poster from another forum
looks awesome but just wondering if you could have got a 90 degree mini-usb connector to divert the cable to the base of stand?

*Very* nice. Can you give details on where you purchased the stand from? Also, where did you get the USB cable? It has a nice long end on it, perfect for this.
Wow, so many replies....
Thanks for replying. I am in China, and these deskstand is made by a Chinese. It's pretty easy to buy CDS 71 stand in china. So if anyone really want this, maybe I can talk to the guy who made it.
This stand is so handy and I used it for a while. and we are planning V2.0 of this stand, it will be more improvement.
Well, I found some CDS 71 stands. Email me to [email protected] if you interested. send your location infomation along with the email so I can check the postage. Maybe the shipping charge is more than the stand!
I'm working on a final version of this stand. I hope it could be standing vertical and horizontal. Seeing X1 laid the the desk horizontally with keyboard open, should be nice.
Hello, guys!
my suggestion is DO NOT BUY IT FROM ME because the shipping charge is tooooooooo expensive. the stand is cheap, just 3-4 bucks, but I have to pay around $40 for shipping!
That's insane.... So i am so sorry about all this. Hope you guys good luck for find some CDS 71.....
Damn post office.....
nice - looks pretty good ;-)
I guess it's not a big problem to buy the original 'CDS-71' and adding such an USB-Cable manually - probably I'll build one in the near future
Kind Regards

Are you sure the CDS-71 was used - this looks very much like the CDS-25 which you appear to only get in the UK (and of course, it has the SE Fastport) - not cheap though, approx $32 US (http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-ERICSSON-D...3.l1177&_trkparms=240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50)

Just looked by Ebay and the CDS 71 is available for less $ 10.00. Can you make some detailed pictures so we can modify the deskstand for the X1? Please advise what and how it has to be changed. Is there a way to make it horizontal?

looks good. do you actually have one? if so could you answer the following questions/
does it add much weight? whats the general quality like? if you take the keyboard out does it still feel ok as a case or does it feel a bit empty/hollow/squishy?
also, if you just wanted to use it as a tablet as you would normally want to when you are out and about, does it flip over nicely to allow you to do that or is it only really designed to be used landscape in the case on a desk.
£37 is a little expensive for what it is so a little unsure. would have preferred Bluetooth too as it limits your options with using a usb stick or even a 3g dongle (when support for it is eventually implemented). friend has just got his ipad one similar to this and thats BT and cost £35

hi thanks for your reply. although it didnt really answer my questions. I had already read your "review" (albiet translated by google) and it didnt really cover anything i asked other than the weight.

umm, ok.
well maybe it would be nicer if you actually discussed the things you post on XDA then rather than just posting links to either your website or newmp3technology (which coincidently I see you are an affiliate of so you get money everytime anyone from here clicks your links).. you dont tend to reply to the thread much or at all with any meaningful responces once you've posted them.

usb for teh winz
I bought one off ebay
I bought one off ebay
The pros:
-Wow you can play games with keys!
-Works simply
Cons
-the usb is covered by the grip, this is not so much of a problem unless you are using something that doesn't flip when the tablet is rotated, but even then the grip can be flattened to put it out the way.
-little heavy
All in all a surprisingly good buy.
the one on ebay seems a fair bit different
about the mp3: is it worth the 40-50 euros ?
Might be handy to have, but i'm not wasting 40-50 euros if it's flimsy

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro (NOT X10)

EDIT: I've now seen that in the sub forum for the "old" Xperia Mini Pro (which SHOULD have X10 in the name, tbh), there is info regarding the "new" Mini Pro. Would i not be simpler to make two SEPERATE sub forums (the phones look COMPLETELY different after all)

Hi [email protected]
please could you create a sub forum for the new Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro. This is NOT the same as the Xperia X10mini Pro (the one with silver buttons and a slide out keyboard). I am talking about this
This is a beast of a phone under the hood, but being a brand new phone, there are some tips and hints I have to share with people already!
Thanks in advance and, as always, thank you for making all this pooling of knowledge and ROM making and more possible!

Xperia Pro SK17a(i) "Mango" & MK16a(i) "Lyoken"
This is called the "Mango" and model # SK17a (North America) SK17i Europe. I have a black SK17a, just got it yesterday and playing with it. (This is follow up model to the U20) I'm also waiting for th MK16a (i) which is the Xperia Pro "Lyoken" and have played with it in Black. Awesome phone but all black surfaces are glossy and terrible finger print magnets. The SK17a, so far has a matt black keyboard surface and is much better in this regard. It is a smaller phone and smaller screen than the Pro (lyoken) version.
Amyone know where to get the Silver MK16A?
Cheers,

I've played with both and decided to buy the MK16a. The keyboard felt a lot better to use and the bigger screen was definitely worth having. The phone is still pretty small for a full QWERTY inside and feels great in your hand. It's slightly curved on the back side, making it fit perfectly in your palm, both when talking on it as a normal phone, or in landscape mode to give you something to grip onto.
I got the black version and have to say it really is a beautiful device. The chrome buttons and side plating are beautiful compared to the black case. My only complaint about that is it's a fingerprint magnet, as you said. But really, it's JUST fingerprints.... it's not the end of the world. A quick rub of the sleeve will get them to disappear pretty fast.
If you want a cheap black version, the Canadian carrier Fido is selling them in Canada for $350 off contract. Unfortunately Fido locked down the bootloader, so you have to use SETools to unlock it. But that's easy enough to do - just costs a bit more money and some patience. PM me for more info if you're interested and I'll send you in the right direction.
Now, if anyone has any information on how to ROOT the MK16a (Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro) it would be GREATLY appreciated!! There are plenty of instructions for the rest of the family - the Arc, Neo, Play, but not the Pro.
lil size but awsome spec

No place for a wriststrap

Got my GN from Expansys a few days ago and really like the phone so far. As soon as I turned it on it got the update so all that is good. The only thing operationally that is a problem for me so far is the brightness, but there are already patches available for that issue. But what may be the dealbreaker for me is no ability to attach a wriststrap. I always use a wriststrap on my phones and since my current Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant) supports that (and the S2) I expected that the GN would, as well. Probably not a big deal for most but it is for me as they have always helped me from dropping phones in the past and I certainly don't want that to happen with the GN. Really dissapointed at this point that I can't use a wriststrap and will have to give a lot of thought about keeping it or not.
You mean a lanyard loop? You could probably find a hardcase that has one integrated I guess...
Don't most phones not have a lanyard loop nowadays (outside of Asia)?

Guys, you can be sarcastic all you want, but I agree with ts big time - having little netsuke-toy on my ol' good SE W902 save it from falling to the asphalt a billion times. I could juggle it with my fingers using strap as handy safety-grip-extension-device and I still consider it a much beter solution than aluminum casing/rubber bumper/gorilla glass (well, certanly it's better to combine a few ). I definetely miss such a strap on my RAZR and, obviously, will miss it on N4.
P.S.: After W902 I've had HTC Legend - it had a strap, gorilla glass, aluminum case, and a shape preventing glass contact with ground on fall. Talk about safety . A shame it was such a weak device capability-wise.

【Y phone】 Y phone wins over i-phone: proof is here

guYs,
it's official. the Apple ifone is a piece of crap
in Finnland, Europe, many ifones were destroyed because ifones go broken in temperatures below 0° Celsius.
android-user.de magazine reported that ifones were bricked for good just because it got a bit chill outside.
Y phone of course, was never reported to be destroyed by cold weather.

The editors of the Finnish PC magazine MikroPC wanted to know exactly which phone by holding for which temparatures and sent about 25 devices in a refrigeration chamber.
