[Q] Wifi question on ICS AOSP Port - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've installed latest 4r1 beta and see that many people in rom thread have wi-fi working via setting static ip against dhcp, but my phone can't even see any wi-fi networks. Other roms work well and just updated to Vision_Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19 but still no wi-fi. I wonder if anyone can help or atleast post this question to main thread as im new member and can't post in ad development topics.

Send the op of ROM thread a private message if you can't post in said thread.

Hi, I have the same problem. Available networks are not appear when turning on wifi. I am currently on ICS_AOSP_Vision_beta8r5 (BTW great rom).
I hope devs will help us with this issue.

I'm not running an ICS ROM at the moment, but I had the same problem and figured it out. If I remember correctly, at the top of the list (above the list of networks) there's a toggle you need to switch on. It wasn't obvious, just happened to find it by accident. Check it out.

[Q] Wireless issue with a few roms

first of all thank you for viewing,
i have a problem with any rom running CM or gingerbread when trying to join a wireless connection that has a hidden SSID at WPA2 security.
i have no problems connecting to any other wireless connection as long as they are not configure as mention above.
now i would claim that there is a problem with the wireless configuration and the phone trying to handshake with it but this is not the issues with most roms.
because it works fine with most roms but does not with a few other roms i am sure that this is not hardware related.
here is a few troubleshooting steps i have gone through in order to see what is the source of the problem.
1st) i have loaded and tested every radio for the Inc (including the EVO radio) but the problems persist.
2nd) i have loaded and tested a variations of kernels to see if this is a cause of the problem and no luck (i tend to leave the Dev's choice in kernel alone in most cases)
any advise will be grateful please as i am at a lost and with search for people in my same place i have not found any yet.
please someone help i love playing with the Roms but this is starting to kill my experience as being able to connect to hidden and secure wifi is a must for me.
thank you.

silverramsrt,
thank you for the search and post, so what i gather from the 2 other instances of the same problem there is no fix for this as of now other than to broadcast you SSID.
i just cant imagine why would the developer version of Gingerbread does not have this working and i hope some one finds a fix for it or that a fixed version is added to the full release.
i know, i know high hopes.
thank you
You're welcome. It won't be long before one of the incredible devs tackle this. (pun intended)

[Q] HTC Rhodium Hangs after FRX 07.1 Android Build

Hello All-
HTC Rhodium 400 running on the sprint network. Installed Android build FRX 07.1, everything works very nice and is great to have this on a WINMO phone! However 2 issues.
1) WIFI hotspot will turn on and is located by other devices, however cannot turn this off. The phone fights itself and then either reboots or locks up and i have to remove the battery and reboot into Android.
2) Every once in a great while the phone when left unattended will reboot itself back into windows.
Last night. 11/09/11, i installed the newest kernal, hoping this would possibly fix the problem. Still present, any help?
I have searched the threads but nothing this unique!
Thank you in advance!
YES I AM A NOOB, thank you for moving the post and Sorry for pissing off anyone, sometimes it gets overwhelming to move through all the posts. Thank you again for the 3rd party app that you stated and will just keep downloading the latest kernals. Thank you again moderator for answering the questions of mine.
Wrong section, moved to the right one.
1. The built-in wifi hotspot is broken, that's a well-known issue. Please search before posting a new thread (or even creating an account ). If you use a third-party tool like XDAndroid wifi tethering, should work just fine. The built in USB tethering works great too.
2. A part of running the port. Kernel isn't flawless.

You can update your kernel without losing any data. Just don't touch the data.img, update per Incremental Updates

I used the built-in wifi hotspot at the end of October, and didn't notice any problems. What was I doing wrong (or right)?

wifi tether issues?

I am seemimgly having an issue wit wifi tether. After a period of time it seems to time and and drops all connections. I hear them reconnect (vibrate) and then moments later they are not connect. It happens with the touchpad so i decided to try an incredible and had the same issue. any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all this is the Galaxy Nexus subforum. Your post is regarding HP Touchpads and HTC Droid Incredibles. Try posting in those areas.
Second, this is the development subforum. It is a place for posting ROMs and kernels that you developed. This post is more suited for the general subforum (in the Incredible or Touchpad area).
Finally, get the latest version of wifi tether from here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ and make sure you use the settings to set the correct profile.
Are there 3g touchpads that you can use wifi tether with?
I believe the problem is with the nexus since that is what i am running wifi tether on. So i believe this is in the correct forum unless this is just for roms and kernals. I thought sine this it's part of the development of the device i would have the correct form. I used the incredible and touchpads as examples of what i tried to connect with.

Wifi tether isn't working for me? I tried beta 9 & beta 10 and no computers see the wireless network. I even tried to manually add it and no luck. Also my phone keeps rebooting after 10 mins or so after I launch the app?
Anyone else having similar problems or have any suggestions?

AOKP WiFi Issue ATT 9/5 ??

Has anyone had issues with WiFi not picking up? I have three phones one skyrocket and two art s3 running all different builds and none will connect to WiFi they see the WiFi but won't obtain IP even if I disable data packets. The s3's are running KT kernel so thinking maybe keep that off and reflash?

if all 3 of your phones are not connecting, it only makes me think its an issue with your router.
Agree. Test the phones on other networks, and bring another device to the network you're having issues with to verify. If three different wi-fi enabled devices are having trouble connecting, it's probably the router. This is what I do at work all day >_<

Your right it was the router it supports WPS but the handshake was not compatible 802.11n+m I changed the router to 801.11b it works on all of the phones. I seen other issues regarding this on various threads it may be a default setting via one of the kernels the 802.11b mixed with something else or that it does not auto detect as I did assume.
My bad, jumped the gun due to other posts related to AOSP and AOKP builds after 4.0.4.
Thanks,
JK

Thats not really true .. I experienced the same issue in regards to my S3 running anything that was AOKP/CM10 etc etc .. I started a thread about my issue under the Q&A section in which we found a resolution .. and it had nothing to do with a+b+g+n !!!
I have a LinkSys E4200 router .. on stock/leak builds, my phone connected instantly .. anytime I flashed AOKP, CM10 variations .. my phone saw the router, saw the SSID's .. but refused to connect via DHCP .. it would connect however by static !! This was driving a few people nuts .. and for some real strange reason, it had to do with the naming of the SSID that was causing the problem !!
My old SSID was "lordgeek_24" and "lordgeek_5" .. for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands .. everything set to mixed connectivity. All I did was renamed my SSID's to "LordG33K24" and "LordG33K5" .. kept everything else the same (WPA2) .. and WHAMMM .. my phone connected instantly .. I'm running the Nightly CM10 .. since renaming my SSID's .. NO PROBLEMS :victory:
And my and a few others issue is slow download speeds on wifi.

I have really bad download speeds on AOKP Task and Ktoonsez and running KT kernel. I do not have LTE yet but H+ is faster than my WiFi which is 5Gbit/sec. I can only get about 1550 of 5 whereas my girlfriend gets 5 on her Atrix I've searched for hours for an answer and this thread is what I've finally found. Can anyone help me fix this before I go to the ROM or kernel thread? Thanks.

No just this router. Its a Net gear WNR2000. I updated the firmware and have reset the modem and still only half the data speed I should be getting. I am going to change the SSID and change channels when I get home and check the results. Any other suggestions I should try?

WiFi problem on any JB or ICS Roms

Hey guys. I'm really angry about this problem so I decided to create a topic, although I posted several times in some threads and no answer so far.
I have problem with wifi in ANY ICS or JB rom. It can't recognize any wifi network, sometimes, it even freezes in wifi section in setting. I am sure that I'm doing all of install steps correctly; as I said, I have no problems with roms based on older versions of android. the strange case is that my friends have the same problem. Is it possible that it relates to internet providers in my country? (I'm living in Iran).
Thanks for your help.
anyone?
Not even one person?!!!
