Does anyone else get a little screen burn in on their incredible? Or should I bring mine in under warranty? Never noticed it before, but it does it whether I am running stock unrooted or rooted with a different Rom. I have never overclocked or messed with voltages. It's not bad yet just noticeable at times. SLCD screen.

My AMOLED has slightly-yellowish bands across the screen when I'm looking at white screens or light-colored screens. I assume its screen burn-in. It doesn't bother me because it only shows up on light-colored screens. I run mostly dark wallpapers or black if I can just because I love the pitch black dark background that AMOLED makes as opposed to my brother's SLCD Incredible. Might buy a replacement screen later on down the road if I can find a replacement AMOLED screen for it. In the meantime, its all good.
I get it too sometimes, I have an SLCD. For some reason, it was only back when those 2.3.5 Sense 3.0 roms from the Desire were being ported. The icons at the very top on the status bar would get burned into it, and wouldn't go away for a while. Like, say I turned off Wifi, the prominent icon would go away, but then there would be a sort of dim replica of it, still in the exact spot where it was, and it would just linger there forever. Also got these on some Sense 2.1 roms, while messing with some skins for them. I have no idea what causes this.
Mine has burn in where the time is in the status bar. But since it is always there...no biggie

Yea I just usually leave the screen off for a while and it goes away. Like for example when I'm txting, and I go into the xda app, I can see my keyboard and message in the backround. Lol. It is just kind of funny.

This wasn't actually screen burn in. It had something to do with the skins/themes and having to be ported to the Incredible. Happened to everyone.
If you have a slcd then the correct term for what you are most likely seeing is image retention or image persistence. Just turn your screen off for a bit to relax the crystals.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Apparently my phone decided one day that it'd be a great idea to never turn off the screen, so after around 40 minutes I took my phone out of my pocket to see Google Voice sitting there. Turned it off and it was still bad, but it's gone away after a while.
You can't fix it. Unlike displays with a common light source, the brightness of each OLED pixel fades depending on the content displayed. The varied lifespan of the organic dyes can cause a discrepancy between red, green, and blue intensity. This leads to image persistence, also known as burn-in

Oh yeah...well it still happens on miui, and cm7, with the keyboard and stuff, if I have it open for a while, and it's a white keyboard, if I go to a black screen it'll still look like it's there...along with other objects and images on the phone

Well, I am sorry. That was the only situation that I have seen what appeared to be burn in. When I quite using those custom skins, the issue stopped, and it only happened with the status bar icons. And if you look back to my original reply, it was specifically responding to you about the status bar "burn in" issue you brought up on sense roms, not about issues you may have had with aosp or keyboards. I am using amoled screen.

Me neither. I've had my Inc since Sept 2010 and have no burn in. I do however have a dead pixel and a couple tiny scratches

Can I fix it by replacing a display?

what do u mean ?
I think he is talking about, for instance leaving a few pixels show the same thing for along time with the result being that those pixels "stick" to the showing the "thing".
Hope this helps...
BTW i havent had this problem yet.....

I have the white status bar on the top. I left my screen on for about 10-15mins. I rebooted my phone and on the white HTC logo boot screen, I can see some of the white status bar but its very faded. This was a big problem with plasma TV's also.

Brightness loss on AMOLED
I have found reduced brightness on my desire after trying to run the battery flat by setting the screen to fully white display, and at full brightness. It ran for hours before it went flat.
I have two friends with Desires, and when comparing my phone with theirs at full brightness, the lesser light emitted by mine is noticeable. All three phones were set to manual and full brightness for comparison.
Organic material degradation is one downside to OLED screens, but i always thought it took around >50,000 hours to reach half brightness.
Maybe the 'hours on'/'brightness loss' curve is not linear.....?
I was told that the reason the HTC Sense UI is black is to avoid such a problem
Use a black theme, it consumes less power and you won't get the burn-in effect.
I too hv noticed that. But they disappear in short, so i see no matter to complain.

this is sick. Now one say if this is really such an advantage. Bull****. I would much rather have the Iphone 4 then this crap from HTC!!!
so its not really Burn-In then more IR (Image Rentention), which disappears after the handset is switched off?
Not noticed anything so far on mine.

Yep. I only notice this when the device is rebooted, that's the only ever time I see the burn-in effect.

I am experiencing some burn in on my desire (amoled) most on white, blue background I see shadows of clock and signal status, is there some tool or something to repair that?
I didn't notice anything like that.
EDIT:
Well I did, and I found a solution, program name is jscreenfix for andorid I run it like a half an hour, and he fix it all, no shadows now everything is perfect.
I noticed my htc evo has an issue. I dont know if its a bug... software glitch or what. But yeres the isuue, ill go to lock my phone.... and a text comes in right after, i go to unlock it and nothing. The lcd and sense buttons at the bottom light up. But most of the time i relock it and try to wake it up again, and it does that. It only happens to. Me in the mornings though. And i usually uave to lock and unlock tthe screen several times before i actually see my. Lock screen. It did this to me too when running the htc stock 2. 1 rom. Any tips fellow xda members?
I would greatly appreciate if yu have any info.
Thanks.
are you underclocking your phone when the screen goes off? if so what settings?
also are yo running an auto task killer?
If you are to either of these i would turn them off and see if it continues.

no im not overclocking. nor am i running setcpu cause it drops my phone into a constant boot cycle. The only task killer ive ever used is Advanced Task Killer.
where am i going wrong???
I found out why the screen wouldn't turn on somethings, from dropping the evo, the LCD plugs became lose, and having a cracked screen doesn't fix any issues, so I got it replaced and it always works now.

You didn't think mentioning that the phone has physical damage is important for the first post?
hmm.
Well along with cracked screen....I think that means physical damage from start. Doesn't matter now, I repaired my evolution. new screen and LCD for $40. So its all good now

Where did you get a new glass and lcd for $40!?! I was looking for a replacement whole top half of the phone, just in case,I have a white Evo and I'm pretty sure that if I break it they will give me a black one :-( Anyways, I have been shopping around and the cheapest I saw was $70, link please

No link, just got the hookup at sprint. Sprints new policy changed and they replace the outter screen (digitizer) for 35$ flat rate. They inspect to see if it has physical damage inside, if not, they fix for 35 bucks.

My phone has really, really severe burn in. Basically I leave it on the clock app for like 20 minutes and the screen is burned in for maybe 5 minutes after i do something else. Also, sometimes I have it set to "Never turn display off while charging" when I test out my apps, but forget it and let it sit on the lockscreen for maybe 2 hours, and the residue remains for maybe 20 minutes. Is this abnormal, or does everyone have this? My phone is SLCD.
What is the residual effect that you're experiencing? Is it noticeable when you turn the screen off or when you navigate away from the burned in screen? I haven't heard of that but I suppose if the screen is left on for the whole time it's charging I could see that happening. Hasn't ever happened to me but I don't leave my screen on for that long. I wonder if the screen type makes a difference..

Sounds like an SLCD problem. I leave my AMOLED on desk clock over night, no burning.

Well, once I left it overnight, and it stuck there even on the lock screen. For example, I got a new notification, moving everything else to the right, and there was burn in of the previous icon. Also, the time was blurred (it was like 7:58, and you could see the digits 1 - 7 on the right number).

I read somewhere that only AMOLEDs could burn in. Weird, maybe that's wrong.

I've never heard of OLED's having burn in :-/
I can use mine outdoors >_> just gotta turn the brightness on max
I leave mine on the clock app overnight every night and never had a problem, but then again, the clock bounces around like a screen saver, I'm assuming for exactly that reason.

AMOLED Incredible owner here, and I've left it on desk clock when I sleep, no burn in. I also use it on my desk at work as a clock, and I've been doing this for almost a year...
LCD does burn in. This is a problem in TV's where you can see channel logos getting burned in. Also, I can use my phone outside too Just gotta crank the brightness, that's all.
I can confirm that amoleds are able to burn in. The last replacement I got from vzw had the time burned in at the top and it was the first thing I noticed when I powered it on to the white "incredible" screen.

Searched and found this. Wanted to bring this up because I too now have screen burns. Specifically the notification bar and a little bit from the dock. I just started noticing it maybe the past month or two. Not sure if it will get worse. But to describe it, it's a light blueish tint, more noticeable on white. Really noticeable when the brightness is turned down, hardly noticeable when the brightness is cranked up. I got my phone in the middle of April of 2012.
Kinda sucks, but I've gotten used to it and come to terms that it will probably happen again if I replace it. Never replaced a phone before, but I just don't want to end up getting a refurbished phone if that's the case. Phone works great and I can deal with the screen unless it becomes super dark blue.
Just wanting to know if any of yall have any indications of screen burn or at least heard any other stories. Thanks!
To all this happen to a previous vibrant I owned and its from you charging your phone often with the display on to high and not in sleep mode while charging make sure your screen is off on phone because the hotter the phone gets the more likely u get the burn

For those who have the issue, can you try the Display Tester app on the Play store and let us know if it works? Apparently, it can repair burn in... it would be good to find out if it's a possible fix in the event someone else were to get screen burn.
I guess flickering is the best way to describe it. On certain gradients and colors, the screen will flicker and have some distortion. Is this normal with the phone or is there an issue with the screen?

Even at low brightness it still kinda looks like this. I feel like there's something messed up with the screen...
Are you using a kernel with voodoo color support? If you are, that could be the culprit. I'd install the Voodoo color/sound app and try changing a few of the settings to see if that changes anything

I may have a similar issue on my Epic, though much worse... Check and see if you get the same effects in download mode or nandroid whatever...
My screen started with a blueish flicker and then got worse and worse over the past month, now the whole screen is covered by a translucent blue, I can barely make out whats going on behind it. Though the phone still functions, the display is trashed. Perhaps a loose connection or broken flex cable.

Have you checked your battery? My mom has this phone and had the same problem... I took her battery out and spun it on a table and you could see how warped and swollen it was. These batteries can warp and explode, causing damage to the phone and bodily harm. If your battery is misshapen, take it into Sprint- they will have to swap it out! I got my mom a new battery from them, and her screen is fine now- no flicker. Because it was intermittent (occurring seemingly at random), I was able to rule out being a screen problem. Her screen is fine, it was the battery.
I'm not saying the battery is definitely your problem here, but it is a known problem with the design of the battery/phone, and can cause a lot of damage if your battery IS bad and it is not replaced. Check your battery, it very well may resolve this issue you're having with screen flicker. Otherwise, I don't know
Thanks, I was wondering why my screen had random blotches of yellow flickering, so I swapped my battery, and voilĂ it's gone. All I need to do now is replace both of them.
