Want to buy a G2 But... - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to buy the G2 but the one I'm looking at comes with 2.3 unrooted. How could I downgrade the phone to root it from 2.2? Again, it comes UNrooted with 2.3

There are several how to's I recommend the wiki.

Aren't those only dealing with previously rooted phones?

Nope. I followed the wiki when I got my unrooted 2.3. Downgraded to 2.2 and everything was gravy after that

Could you link me to the page please? Thanks so much guys. I'm going to go pick it up tomorrow and the Guy said he'd throw in 15 bucks because its 2.3. I'm trading him a mytouch 4g

[Q] How to Root your HTC EVO device to download the cool stuff

Well, Im sure someone has already started a thread of this topic somewhere, but I dont have the time to search every thread for it.. Please forgive me since I am a new user to this site. I have recently switched from AT&T using the Iphone 3Gs to Sprint's HTC Evo, and Im really interested in tweaking my device to be able to make it my own super phone(with a longer lasting battery life.. would be very helpful). Obviously, it is a bit more complicated to tweak an HTC device from a blackberry(easy). With the talk of Rooted and unrooted device is a totally different language for me.. So Im just looking for a nice soul out there that wouldnt mind teaching me and showing me the ropes to have my own personal super phone..
Use unrevoked to root easiest way out there. Then download a Tom and flash it. Simple...

Do not use unrevoked 3 if it is a new one.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
if your hboot is .79, go for unrevoked. if it is 2.02, you have a challange. baisically if your software says 3.29 use unrevoked if it is 3.30 something than you are stuck. sorry. if you have 2.20, i would love a tester. pm me or email at [email protected]. when i say tester, dont worry i know what i am doing.
by the way, from now on i would definatelly scour the threads, google (evo xda [question]) and look in the dev section, before asking a much-asked question. most answers are there. i get that it is in greek pretty much, but it cant hurt (usually helps) to ask with a little knowledge.
once again, open for questions

I do suggest you become familiar with ADB, there are a lot of very useful things you can do with it. That being said, there is a program called Android Commander that installs on your computer and has a GUI which makes a lot of the ADB stuff much easier.

Sprint Lover's is the only one that'll work for you currently, though. I'm hoping they can get everything working with the new hboot soon. Got a replacement Evo with the new hboot and I miss my old Rom.

THAT is untrue. Sprint lovers is flashed through hboot, so it is one of the only roms you can use. It is much more difficult to flash any rom besides sprint lovers. Once again, I can help if you ask.
And then I read things like that that make me want to hold off rooting my evo....it was so much easier on the hero!
I don't say that to be disrespectful, I just mean I guess I will wait till there are more options

Why can't EVO. Get rooted?

Why is the newest EVO. So hard to root than other android phones? I had 3.3 and now upgraded to 3.7. Unrevoked doesn't work for it yet. Why is that?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
It's a process to find a security hole to achieve root.
That being said, weren't you rooted previously?
That's what you get for not paying attention. Don't ever run an RUU. And this doesn't belong in the development section But I guess that's another symptom of not paying attention

Google is your friend, my friend.
If you have a new Evo you need to use an alternative method to root your phone!! The old methods and UNREVOKED will brick your phone. Here is what you need to know first.
I'm sure there are instructions here at xda to achieve the same thing but I'm not going to search it out for you. This is the method we used for a co-worker's Evo v.003
I never rooted before. And yes I do know that unrevoked worked for the older EVO and not the newer. I was just wondering what would be the cause for it being so difficult to do since other phones seem to get it solved more quickly. But thank you for your responce.

$20 to walk me through rooting my phone.

I'll give $20 to someone who will walk me through rooting my phone, via paypal.
It's the holidays so I can't do it now, however, I'd like to do it within the next few days.
I'd like to do it via skype. I'll have my cam ready so you can see my phone and computer screen, if you need to.
I'm afraid I'll mess something up, I read through the final frontier post for rooting, and it was so confusing for me, so I'd rather have someone help me and I will reimburse them.
I have hboot 2.10, version 0003 and my computer is windows 7 64 bit. I don't know if that matters but hey.
Thanks!

Use unrevoked. Its as simple as installing a few drivers and following the menus.
