Don't get me wrong because I have a Galaxy nexus and I absolutely love it to death. I actually own all three of them and all are in mint condition. I have to say that the Nexus 1 is still better looking than the other two. It never functioned perfectly but I like to think of them as Super cars. They are pure in form but always have something wrong with them. The buttons on the Nexus one make me crazy. I sometimes have to push them multiple times to get them to work. The Nexus S looks all sexy and black but it crashes a lot and sometimes the screen does some very odd stuff. I have actually seen it sit cocked a quarter turn. The Galaxy Nexus is a great looking phone and mine so far has restarted itself, doesn't like my router, and drops volume yet I don't care its amazing. And I think its crap that Verizon is messing with the google pure experience that makes my gsm unlocked worth the $750 that I paid for it.
Damn I thought this was gonna be some speed tests with them all running ICS...

Thats a given that the n1 would be slower than the ns and that slower than the GN.
Yeah I also owned all three (don't have the nexus one anymore) and I think that the nexus one was the best built phone.
It felt good when holding it and the design was nice. It's was the perfect size except for the screen size ofcourse.
If I had to put them in order of "likeness" it would be
- Nexus One
- Galaxy Nexus
- Nexus S

I agree the N1 was so far ahead of anything else out as well.
Aside from the metal build of n1 and micro sd think the galaxy nexus trumps all aspects of both phones. The lack of micro SD is a big bummer.

I have only ever owned the latest out of the Nexus phones, so I can't say anything as far as performance or build quality is considered.
But in terms of industrial design, I think it goes Galaxy Nexus > Nexus S > Nexus One from best to worst looking.
I think the Galaxy Nexus is very mature and classy looking, one reason I decided to move from SGS2 to the SGN. The Nexus S looked okay but somehow looked like a bastardized Galaxy S phone. I thought the Nexus One looked really funky with the mismatched paintjob and overly rounded corners.
I have to say the Nexus One is probably the best built of them all though, I'm pretty unhappy with the rear cover on the SGN - I was happy with the rear cover on the SGS2 because even thought it feels cheap it actually wasn't... the SGN flexes in the center of the rear cover, and the Google logo on the back isn't entirely flush which makes it kind of weird to hold if your finger is rubbing on the logo.

HTC build > Samsung build
My Nexus One had poor radio performance and couldn't get a signal in my office.
I couldn't press directly on the capacitive buttons, I had to touch slightly above them for them to work.
I have no idea why, but it is still my favorite phone.
Just recently sold it to help pay for the new Nexus
Must say the nexus s is nicer to hold but that's probably due to the size difference between them I've owned lots of large phones desire HD and the sgs 2 and the galaxy nexus to me falls on the borderline of acceptable size ...still love it tho just harder to use single handed.
Must say I do miss my HTC legend and swype sometimes was a dream to text on

There's a bunch. Love the shape. Love the screen, faults and all. But for me, it's a Nexus and the flagship for the OS that puts Android--in my opinion--over the top.

The resolution by far.
Looking at any other phone looks silly in-comparison for the sheer lack-luster resolution alone.
being able to screen grab without needing to root the device. I guess that would be flagship ICS right?

It was a touch choice, but I picked ICS Flagship. I chose the Nexus because I liked that while my phone will fall behind hardware wise in a few months, the software will always stay current. After the T-Mobile/Vibrant fiasco, this was really important.
The screen is a very close second. I love AMOLED and the size of the screen. Also like the warm color tone. Reading with the Kindle app and in night mode is really easy on the eyes.

It isn't a 'plus' display. It's an HD Super AMOLED. 'Plus' displays have an RGB matrix, while our phone has a PenTile matrix.

Is it because it sticks out iff so i just keep mine in a pouch an dont put it in poket with keys just like any other device iv had. The handset other than that is awesome in my eyes

Personally i found the one x to have a MUCH better battery than the G Nexus, even with AOKP and Franco Kernels but hey....
1% drain over 8 hours idle.... My G Nexus couldnt manage that in a million years...
Thanks all
any regrets at all going to the one? All the stories of issues is making me wary

My Galaxy Nexus would drain 1-3% over night and last 2 days by average, One X currently drains much more, but lets wait for an update.
Apart from battery, there is no way I would go back to G Nexus. Just do screen comparison side by side and that's it
One X is faster, plays movies faster (it starts playing instantly), audio quality sounds the same to me, I tend to listen to musing for 6 hours a day by average.
WiFi is working as expected, not slower, not faster, no problems with 5GHz network.
One X is slimmer and fits in the same belt case I was using with G Nexus.
It took me just few hours with One X to know I'm keeping it, selling G Nexus in few days, it's powered off, I won't use it anymore.
Overall One X seems like huge improvement over G Nexus.

I was doing the same. I did cut my SIM but it was not compatible, it had too big contacts. If the metal part looks like a globe then you might have problems. Hopefully cut SIM worked in GNexus in an adapter, but didn't work in One X.
Went to O2 store and got replacement, can't get any easier that that, took literally 1 minute to get it.
Anyway, was using GNexus as hotspot for entire day before that sim replacement.
Now GNexus is bagged and there is no way I would go back to it. One X is that great.
Stuff I don't like about One X compared to Nexus: hardware button placements. Buttons should be in exact same positions as on G Nexus. I keep pressing Vol accidentally when plugging in usb cable. Power on top always requires me to reach out with second hand. Nexus had the buttons laid out perfectly.

Hi Zorachus
Vodafone UK sim cut and installed ok, no problems there though it looked close
So far I love it as the screen doesn't have that amoled grubbyness on some colours esp grey.
I don't know if there is some uneven areas but you can find faults on anything if you look hard enough lol
Only one charge 18 hours on battery WiFi on, 1 hour 40 on screen, 60% batttery left
Seen a couple of what was like screen brightness flickers but went away, it was very subtle and I didn't have auto brightness on, weird!
Have grey one and so far very pleased and I prefer the button layout as it is, I'm old school I guess
Bought from carphone warehouse and they have a 14 day return policy should something go wrong, the guy in the shop said they sell out pretty quick and had had no returns

The nexus has better screen size (4.65"), resolution (720p) and development.
The One S has better processor (dual-core s4) and custom hardware (image sense).
So it depends on what you want.
nexus vs one x i would understand. but why go one s unless you really want a smaller form factor.
honestly... i like most high end androids. but its always the nexus for me. stock android is the best... in my opinion at least.
id still take my galaxy nexus over the galaxy s3 or the one x. heck.. i never got tempted to replace my nexus one until the nexus s came out. but i finally jumped when the galaxy nexus got released.
if you like sense.. go for the one x. if you like smaller phones then go for the one s. go get the galaxy s3 if you can wait for that. but look at it this way... would you want the next iteration of android the soonest? if you wanna get jelly bean this year then there is no other choice but the galaxy nexus.

Not being biased when I was mainly comparing it to my old sensation. Nexus aside. If I were going straight to tmobile for a phone I wouldn't see the advantage in getting the one s over the sensation. To me the sensation screen looks better feels better in your hand and the one s cones in silver/grey with panzy blue trim on it. It was snappy but not an improvement over previous HTC models. Just disappointed with the one series is all. Nothing but hype

I just got mine yesterday and I have mad ghosting (usually from the keyboard). I was at the at&t store yesterday and the screen in the display GS3 looked nicer. I don't have any banding issues. The color temperature is closer to that of my Lumia 800 (slightly yellow whites, very vibrant blues) than my finally retired Nexus One (first gen AMOLED, very high K whites, almost blue, washed out reds).
Where can I check the serial number?

Hard to draw a conclusion
We have 4 Gnexes, and two of them have gone back to Samsung for new screens, so I guess we've had 6 screens all told. I don't think I can draw a conclusion based on build date...
My son has the oldest of the 4, and his screen is nice.
Mine is the next oldest, and the screen was good from day-1, and the newly installed (dropped it) screen is really good.
My daughter's is 2nd newest, and her screen is OK, but not as good as mine. Hers got a new screen before my wife got her phone, and that one is OK, too.
My wife's phone is the newest (march or April?) (with the exception of my replaced screen), and has looked dreadful the whole time, but she doesn't seem to mind it.
My phone is 3 weeks old now. I have no 'grainy' things going on. I do have banding with the color 'grey'. I tested it with the app called 'LCD TEST' free from Google Play. I tested every color and I only got banding with the color 'grey'. The rest looks ridicilously good!
I do have to say that my Old Omnia II with an Amoled screen was good. I could see the pixels easily. (3.7", 800x480)
I can also see the pixels on my Galaxy NEXUS with ease. But these pixels are way smaller but still noticeable. Because of that the screen does not look as sharp as I thought it'd be. But still it looks WAY better than my Omnia II's Amoled screen. Also blows the Galaxy S' screen away (which I've compared my Galaxy NEXUS to)
So it seems the screens issues are really just a hit and miss. I wish they would use the same screen tech they use in the S3 :/ I'm missing jelly bean but I don't want to go from a better screen to one with problems ...decisions decisions lol

I received my Nexus on July 6th from the playstore. The screen looks fantastic to me. Blacks are black, as for whites I'm not sure what grainy is really supposed to mean. I don't think there's any graininess.
It's as if the colors and the screen pops more up while ours looks great but not as popped up and more in depth and concave sort of way. As if there is a grainy screen that's all like gauss covering the screen. Why did they opt for a cheaper crappier screen on the GNex?

Yes, the SGS3's screen is also pentile, note the lack of plus at the end of Super AMOLED HD.
Different colour profile, different Q/A requirements (Have you noticed that there is very little black in touchwizz UX, maybe to avoid the low brightness blacks become purple issue).
Tweaks made to the panels and manufacturing process after doing them in blunk for the gnexus?
All of the above?
Your guess is as good as mine

Anyway, I have had my phone next to my friends S3 and with the color tweaks on the GNEX I did not notice any difference. Stock GNEX screen, sure it looks horrible. My GNEX looks 10x better then any stock GNEX screen as well.
I would say quality control. Samsung took the time to perfect the S3's colors. I love my screen and it's vibrant and all that. Granted I've never compared the two.

It's as if the colors and the screen pops more up while ours looks great but not as popped up and more in depth and concave sort of way. As if there is a grainy screen that's all like gauss covering the screen. Why did they opt for a cheaper crappier screen on the GNex?

Trinity colors FTW!
Try it. Screen of GNex looks way better than SGS3!
SGS screens are poorly calibrated. Over saturated, over sharpened, etc.
Some people apparently like that.

Agreed.
Believe it or not there is a point where too much saturation is bad. It starts to look entirely unnatural. I'm happy where the saturation levels are at with my Nexus currently, still more vibrant than any LCD screen, but not to the point where everything looks like someone took the saturation dial and cranked it to max.

Stock, I've had no reason to mess with the colors.
To me, they both have the same Nasty blue tint
