HTC Hub: Such a measly selection. - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

I went there to get some more skins and whatnot. They only had 4 extra skins via HTC hub. What a joke.
Is there anyplace with more selection on theme-ing Rosie Launcher?

The android market has a lot more skins!

[Q] What is Rosie? Is it just a theme?

Sorry, newb question. What does Rosie mean and why would I want to try different versions? Droid INc, SR 3.3.2, 2.15 radio, stock kernel. I've looked at screenshots of different rosie versions, but it just looks like minor appearance and launcher changes. Isn't that sort of what I get with a new rom anyhow?
Rosie, in simplest terms, is the launcher that appears at the bottom of the screen, above the home/menu/back/search buttons - opinions vary on her extent, but nominally that's who she is.
So then what's the big deal with Rosie if launcher pro makes that so easy?

If you modify Rosie, you can tweak the default Sense launcher to look the way you want, AND stilll have access to the HTC widgets.

I guess I'm still confused, as you can still change the launcher and still have access to htc widgets without modifying rosie. Is it a theme? Is is a full Sense UI replacement? I'm just not grasping it.
From all I've gathered through this community, Rosie is like a theme on steroids - HTC uses it as a key piece of branding across nearly all their devices. In addition to being the main user interface in terms of widgets, buttons, launcher, etc it also includes an number of hooks and tweaks into core Android itself designed to make the experience more friendly for non-geek users (no insult implied!).
There are two main camps when it comes to Rosie - some dislike it since it adds bulk to the simplicity of vanilla Android, while some others love it for it's prettier user experience and all its widgets. I personally am in the former camp and have learned to love AOSP vanilla.

Actually, you can't. If you change the launcher to something like Launcher Pro (which I <3), you can't use the stock HTC Widgets for FriendStream, Mail or more popularly that beautiful 4x2 Weather+Clock. Granted, if you buy Launcher Pro Plus you can get very similar social widgets, and if want that clock Beautiful Widgets is the way to go if you ditch Rosie for LPP.
Rosie, in simplest terms, is the black bar at the bottom of your homescreen. She gives you access to your app drawer, dialer and settings - and if you take her away, she takes the HTC Widgets with her. However, all other HTC Sense UI elements, such as the lockscreen or the black status bar all stay in place.
Rosie is just the launcher. She is in charge of your homescreens.
As previously mentioned, the reason people modify her is they don't want to lose the HTC Widgets for whatever reason (too cheap for LPP + BW?), but they want to have a custom look or replace the settings option with say the browser.
That clear it up?

Absolutely. Thank you! The term Rosie didn't come up on any Android glossaries I found online. You should submit your description...
On a side note, I was a devout BB user for years and I feel like a kid again learning this whole new OS from scratch. I was as deep into BB as many of you are in Android, so just making the change was a huge leap. Some people close to me think I'm obsessed with technology, but for me it's what I find interesting and fun and challenging.

HTC sense clock/weather replacement

I like the default HTC Sense clock/weather but it is so large it takes up a lot of real estate on the home screen. Is there a smaller replacement that still maintains the same look and all the functionality? I found a "Sense Analog Small Clock 4x1" in the market and its fine, but the weather has to be a zipcode entry. It wont just use your "current location" like the native HTC sense widget does. This would be a nice function but it seems to be absent in 3rd party clock & weather apps.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Beautiful Widget allows for resizing and has multiple skins.

Checked them in the market. Their clock/weather widget does support geolocation apparently. So I guess it would autoupdate to wherever you were at like HTC's native sense widget. It looks fairly large though, at least 4x2. What I really need is 4x1 like the small sense app.
Update: I just saw some 1x4 shots in the android market site so it looked like it has this size. The only other problem is its not free but I can deal with that.
Beautiful widgets is exactly what your looking for. I run it often in 4x1 and it looks great. Plus there are over 100 different clock and weather skins. Really nice app and well worth it.

[Q] Fixed Widgets

Is it possible to change the fixed widgets on this phone (Menu - Phone - Settings) and their icons, WITHOUT having to change your launcher - I seem to like the basic launcher (having tried about 3 or 4 now) and they all allow you to customise the fixed widgets but is this possible in the standard non customised model and if so how..?
OR is there a Launcher that will allow you to access ALL of the basic HTC widget as I quite like some of them like the expanded message and agenda page.. cheers..
Is this on a Sense ROM?
This is on the standard (as it comes) ROM. I have changed nothing and telephone was purchased new approx 2 weeks ago so its on release 2.2.1
Thanks..
You mean the dock buttons, and no theres no way change them (although if you download skins on htc hub you can get a skin that has the dock with another color and the blackboard skin makes the dock squared)
Other choice that you have is getting the full version of launcher pro, and get the fancy widget from the market
The full version of launcher pro has a "friends" widget that kinda looks like the friend stream widget, also it has a contacts widget that looks like the people widget, the dont look as good as the htc original ones but it can be an alternative
And the fancy widget app is the weather clock widget from htc alternative except it doesnt have the weather animation

[q] can I get 3.0 widgets without 3d carousel?

...on Synergy or any Gingersense ROM for that matter...
sorry if I overlooked this somewhere...
I would have posted this in the Synergy rom thread, but I'm "too new" and don't have 10 posts yet :-\

... I'll take that as a no.

Well the answer is no. You can get rid of the carousel effect by pushing in a none carousel rosie.apk. But of course the widgets will also loose their 3D effect. You will still have the pullring lockscreen though.
...
I understand that you'd loose the 3d effect.
no 3d carousel = no 3d effect. I get that. i'm not that newb. haha...
the 3.0 widgets seem to have more features than the 2.1 ones. specifically the 3.0 mail widget. the 3.0 mail widget has an arrow in the top right corner that allows you to toggle between multiple accounts, or view all. you can only do this in the 2.1 mail widget by selecting the view of a specific account (or all accounts) when you first add the widget...
having 3 different email accounts, I much prefer the 3.0 mail widget. but I don't care about the 3d effect, and would rather keep the extra memory that the 3d carousel kills.
p.s. wildstang: I wasn't snapping at you. its just that I PMed JoelZ, and he said the same thing about loosing the 3d effect... lol

[Q] Can I have newer sense widgets?

specifically, I'm talking about the music widget that has previously played albums on the widget and the gallery widget that shows a tile of pictures from the gallery.Other sexy sense widgets would rock too, if I were able to get them on my EVO easily...
I have these two widgets on my Jetstream but not on my EVO (running synergy).
Are these widgets transferable to other roms like this? I wish HTC Hub had this covered...
nearly 100 views and no reply. Lol fail.
