Was having problems after install of faux kernel so I was gonna put the stock kernel back on. Only way of doing this was odin and the tar file. Plugged the phone in the pc and held power and vol up+down. Instead of going into download mode, the phone started to boot normally. I pulled the battery. Now when I go to turn the phone on it won't do anything. And if I try to connect it to the pc, it vibrates on and off continuously.
That's not how you go into download mode. Its volume up+down at the same time not power.

In bubbys thread he says "Hold the volume up/down and power button all at the same time."
Anyways. Is there a way to get it to work or did I brick?
What else have you tried to do. Yes it is holding just both volume buttons and then plugging to computer. The other combo is for recovery. And why Odin stock kernel when there is a cwm one?

Not bricked. Try removing the battery for a minute (let power dicipate) then put the battery back in. Hold vol up + down at the same time and plug in your usb cable (must be plugged into the computer first). This puts the phone into download mode.
***Got distracted and posted late. I see you got it to boot; excellent!
Cool. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1374868 after the first paragraph your find a link to the cwm stock kernel.

So I'm wondering if this is a safety feature, was your phone battery dead when you tried this? My phone completely died and I had the same problem. I plugged it into the usb and left it for 5 min and it booted itself up. I'm wondering if this is a sort of safety feature or ROM issue. Which ROM were you running and was your phone dead?

So I did a Root 101 No No... In a sleepy state I decided to flash my T-Mo galaxy S2 without doing a system wipe..... smh...smh. As a result I brick my phone. However, in a way I've never seen before. Is there anyone out there that can help???
Here the problem:
Phone does not turn on. (No sound, nothing on the screen)
Phone does not respond to 3 button press. (No vibrate and can't get into clockwork)
Phone does not connect to usb port. (it contently connects and disconnect)
As you can see this is a BIG problem and its left me stump. Before I declare this phone as a shiny paper weight I leave my hope in you guys.
Thanks for the help
What is the three button press? To get into recovery I hold power and volume down. Also check if you're in a boot loop
Edit: also what ROM did you flash

I meant the volume and power buttons. I don't think I'm in a loop because the phone give me no type of feedback. no light, sounds or vibration. When connected to power outlet there's no change. took out the battery for about an hour, no change. used a different usb cable, tried to load into Odin. Nothing.
The only thing the phone does to show that something is going on is when I plug it into my pc. At that point it shows a device has been connected but then disconnect right away. It keeps doing that as long as the phone is connected to the pc.
Also I was coming from CM 10.0.0 to aokp_d2tmo_jb-mr1_build-4

Probsbly you are trying to get in recovery mode in proper way, just to confirm, first you have to press vol low and up button, keep holding it and then press power button. few sec later it will vibrate, release power button but keep holding vol up/down. Samsung logo will come and then it'll enter in recovery mode.
Just wanted to make sure as sometime people get hard time to get screen shot by pressing keys.
Hi All,
I tried to flash Jedi Master 16 ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1958230 to my ATT unlocked E980 LGGP for T-Mobile. Now the phone is dead, i.e. not responding to anything. Please please help.
Rooting and installing recovering image, Optimus G Pro How to get ClockworkMod CWM and make a backup | LG Optimus Forums - Android Optimus Forums
were successful. Flashed the stock Jedi Master 16 ROM (no change to the zip) all seemed fine till the installer prompt me to reboot with successful installation message displayed. After confirming rebooting, the phone is no longer responsive. Battery is fully charged before I left it alone over night (~6hrs). Battery still had full voltage in the morning. Battery pulled/reinserted a couple times, volume down+home+power pressed many times. Phone still does not respond at all. Connected to the computer, and the computer said the device driver installation failed.
Searched everywhere and found mentioned "deep sleep" symptom. However, battery was not drained. The so called "bricked" seems to referring to looping in booting. Mine is simple not responding to anything at all with or without battery in, with or without wall charger connected, no matter what key/keys pressed.
I suspect that I should have put the right modem file into the Jedi Master 16 zip file.
Please help and thank you in advance.
I'm not even sure what to say.. Why the hell would you install a Samsung Note 2 ROM on your E980???
Can you at least get into recovery mode?
Pull battery then put back in
Hold vol-up+power+home until it passes the lg logo and goes black then release.
Are you in clockworkmod recovery?
My bad. Thought Jedi X is Note 2 specific and Jedi Master is somewhat generic.
Phone won't even boot. Screen is off, and no LED lights/sign of life anywhere with the battery trick and vol-up/down + power + home trick.
When the battery pulled and USB powered, the back and menu led flashed (white) once. Then no more sign of life no matter what key(s) + power buttons combo press.

I understand what I should do after the phone boots up. Thank a lot for the resources.
However, I am stuck with how to make the phone boot. Is there a hardware reset button?
Methods tried so far:
1. Pull and reinsert battery, then press power button.
2. Pull and reinsert battery, then press (vol-up/down) + (camera shutter) + (home) + (power button).
3. Left the phone alone for 6hr (no USB charging). Battery is at full voltage (4.12v). Then following step 1 or 2.

Dude you need to simply do this. Pull battery, put battery back in, hook to computer and while plugging in the cable to your phone, hold volume up and down. If you see the 'download mode' box in the middle of the screen, YOURE SAVED, IF NOT THEN YOURE ****ED!
Never flash anything unless you know what you're doing. I seriously advise you to do a serious amount of reading before ampting any flashing if anything!

Everything is bright and shine except the partition table is screwed up where all apps (like camera app) see there is no space in the internal sd card. Waiting on the external micro sd card to arrive. Hopefully that will make the phone usable (beyond just browsing and installing apps).
In this stage, I can't even root it since the rooter can't write onto the internal memory space. And Android Partition Manager Pro, who requires the phone to be rooted at first, won't help either.
Does any one know how to repartition without rooting? Thanks a lot.

Well by formatting system you removed the android os from the device, of course it can't boot anything after this. Put the device into bootloader and flash a rom or factory image. This should bring it back into working condition, that is if you haven't erased the bootloader too.

If you are lucky, you may just be out of battery. Just plug it in and let it charge. Once it's charged, press vol down + power both at the same time and hold both until the bootloader comes up. If you get to the bootloader, then you can just put the factory image back on there.
If you are unlucky and you somehow blew away the bootloader, then you are SOL. You will know the bootloader is gone if holding the vol down + power does not boot you into the bootloader (assuming you have charged the device and are sure it is not out of battery).

Did you hold the vol down + power button for a minute or more (now that you've charged and are sure battery is not out of juice)? Sometimes takes awhile for it to boot.
If the device doesn't have a bootloader, there's not much you can do that I am aware of. On most devices, you'd have to JTAG to get anything back on the device if the bootloader gets wiped.
Hello,
I'm currently downloading all the files necessary to restore my phone. I ran the stock ROM but was rooted. I chose to NOT apply to update as I'd no wish to brick my phone. However, I awoke this morning to find my phone in CWM recovery with no way out. Apparently LG forced it through. My phone won't enter 'download mode' to apply the drivers. I've tried power and volume up, power and both volume buttons pressed. Nothing - it just applies whatever menu button my phone was on within CWM.
Regardless of what happens, I'm sick at heart - I"m going to lose hundreds of photos that I hadn't backed up.
Well, it won't be so bad because of the google photo backups, I suppose. I suppose that will be okay after all!
Still, I'm tempted to take T-Mobile's offer of paying off what I owe AT&T with the remainder of my contract and jump ship. After all, the only reason I'd rooted was to take off the tracking service which was reducing my battery life by 40%.
Is there anything I can do to get my phone back to stock at least? Then re-root and then apply the damned update? Again, my only issue is not being able to enter 'download mode' to apply the drivers. Thanks very much!

I'm beginning to wonder if the battery is drained. The CWM recovery screen was on when I woke up this morning, and goodness only knows how long it had been running for and when LG forced the update. I've plugged it into a fast charger so I'll try again in about twenty minutes. Otherwise I have no idea.

We may be out of luck. My only recourse, since I'm several months away from an upgrade with ATT, is to switch to T-Mobile and let them pay off my penalty... I'm sorry you're in the same boat I am. It's awful! Good luck to you....
Take the battery out for 3 minutes. Re-Insert the battery, then hold the power button for 5-10 seconds. If you can get into CWM recovery, take the following steps.
1. Ensure the micro-usb cable is plugged into a power source, and Unplugged from the phone.
2. At the cwm recovery screen choose reboot. Not "reboot recovery".
3. As soon as you see the 1st sign the phone is powering back on, insert the micro usb cable into the phone and hold Both volume buttons.
If you don't have cwm try something similar to the above steps without using cwm.
Good luck, I just went through the same problem.
I had the update forced on me as well. First off charge your phone, second follow this thread

and you should get you pone back up and running. These are the steps that I took. I didn't lose much as I have a external sd card where save my pics and music too.

If you don't have cwm try something similar to the above steps without using cwm.
Good luck, I just went through the same problem.

Okay, I was able to get into TWRP Recovery by pulling the battery out for 3 minutes. That seemed to do the trick.
Now I just have to get it back to stock E988 somehow. Putting CM 10.2 was a mistake. That's when everything went downhill..
Glad we made it out alive! I had my doubts for a while there....
so i accidentally went into download mode and had no clue how to get out of it, so i just left it. AFTER ABOUT A DAY, THE BATTERY RAN OUT AND DOWNLOAD MODE STOPPED. I THEN PLUGGED THE CHARGER IN AND TO MY SURPRISE IT BOOTED LIKE A NORMAL TABLET.

Yes, that strategy works, but it is not good for the battery. No battery should ever be discharged 100%. Even modern batteries could have issues when completely discharged. Batteries that are completely discharged could leak and cause damage to your device.
If you get stuck in download mode and cannot get out, then try and find out WHY you cannot get out. Something went terribly wrong like possibly the application is not compatible with your device.

Yes...I too accidently went into download mode and I discovered that long pressing the power button worked. I think holding volumn up plus power button will help as well. Or plug up to computer and run recovery using odin.

Really strange - got out from download mode several times by just holding power button for >10 sec.
