[Q] dead phone after Jiedi Master 16 ROM flash - LG Optimus G Pro

Hi All,
I tried to flash Jedi Master 16 ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1958230 to my ATT unlocked E980 LGGP for T-Mobile. Now the phone is dead, i.e. not responding to anything. Please please help.
Rooting and installing recovering image, Optimus G Pro How to get ClockworkMod CWM and make a backup | LG Optimus Forums - Android Optimus Forums
were successful. Flashed the stock Jedi Master 16 ROM (no change to the zip) all seemed fine till the installer prompt me to reboot with successful installation message displayed. After confirming rebooting, the phone is no longer responsive. Battery is fully charged before I left it alone over night (~6hrs). Battery still had full voltage in the morning. Battery pulled/reinserted a couple times, volume down+home+power pressed many times. Phone still does not respond at all. Connected to the computer, and the computer said the device driver installation failed.
Searched everywhere and found mentioned "deep sleep" symptom. However, battery was not drained. The so called "bricked" seems to referring to looping in booting. Mine is simple not responding to anything at all with or without battery in, with or without wall charger connected, no matter what key/keys pressed.
I suspect that I should have put the right modem file into the Jedi Master 16 zip file.
Please help and thank you in advance.

I'm not even sure what to say.. Why the hell would you install a Samsung Note 2 ROM on your E980???
Can you at least get into recovery mode?
Pull battery then put back in
Hold vol-up+power+home until it passes the lg logo and goes black then release.
Are you in clockworkmod recovery?

My bad. Thought Jedi X is Note 2 specific and Jedi Master is somewhat generic.
Phone won't even boot. Screen is off, and no LED lights/sign of life anywhere with the battery trick and vol-up/down + power + home trick.
When the battery pulled and USB powered, the back and menu led flashed (white) once. Then no more sign of life no matter what key(s) + power buttons combo press.

The only forum you flash roms out of is this one and it must be for the E980. Your only hope is to try and flash back to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302660
if that works and you're back on stock then root and after that you have to use FreeGee to install a loki recovery..i suggest the cwm one. just make sure to select unlock security etc
good luck

I understand what I should do after the phone boots up. Thank a lot for the resources.
However, I am stuck with how to make the phone boot. Is there a hardware reset button?
Methods tried so far:
1. Pull and reinsert battery, then press power button.
2. Pull and reinsert battery, then press (vol-up/down) + (camera shutter) + (home) + (power button).
3. Left the phone alone for 6hr (no USB charging). Battery is at full voltage (4.12v). Then following step 1 or 2.

Dude you need to simply do this. Pull battery, put battery back in, hook to computer and while plugging in the cable to your phone, hold volume up and down. If you see the 'download mode' box in the middle of the screen, YOURE SAVED, IF NOT THEN YOURE ****ED!
Never flash anything unless you know what you're doing. I seriously advise you to do a serious amount of reading before ampting any flashing if anything!

Points are well taken! I was in a rush which I definitely did not have to.
Tried the vol-up+down combo tip. No response. I guess I need to resort to some JTAG repair.
Thanks a lot.

I dont think there is such thing as a Jtag repair for this phone, if there is no one knows yet.

Methinks the former. The OP took a "parts is parts" approach to Android and made an expensive mistake.

Unbricked
My phone is finally unbricked using JTAG thanks to this man!

Everything is bright and shine except the partition table is screwed up where all apps (like camera app) see there is no space in the internal sd card. Waiting on the external micro sd card to arrive. Hopefully that will make the phone usable (beyond just browsing and installing apps).
In this stage, I can't even root it since the rooter can't write onto the internal memory space. And Android Partition Manager Pro, who requires the phone to be rooted at first, won't help either.
Does any one know how to repartition without rooting? Thanks a lot.

Galaxy S3 Won't Power On

Hi , I'm having problems with my Galaxy T999. I have rooted and have not yet installed any kernels/roms. The only thing i did was installed a couple apps from the play store . and wanted to check out the CWM recovery menu and was going to try to installed "hyperX camera mod". First thing i did was shut off the phone . Then pressed on the Volume up+Home+Power button . After doing that my phone didn't turn on or anything , no vibration or anything . I hooked it on with my computer and press the power button and it was able to connect and then disconnected. I am at lost now and can't seem to find any answer . Have looked every where not sure what to do now. Any solution will be much appreciated .
***
It seems to disconnect due to no driver found for QHUSUB_DLOAD .
Without any solutions I'll probably gonna get my phone replace . T_T
Does your phone disconnect immediately, or does it stay connected for a brief amount of time? If it stays connected briefly, try using adb during this period to boot into recovery. The command is "adb reboot recovery" (without the quotes).

Try to remove your battery then plug in charger. See if you can turn on. If you can turn it on, leave it 30 minutes. Then put in the battery.
By the looks of the result the computer gives you when you plug it in, seems it is hard bricked! Are you sure you didn't flash anything from the I9300 section like a rom?

The hyper x camera mod isnt entirely for our phone. I've read that it's flashable to our phone though, so I'm not sure what's going on here. Maybe the OP needs to link where he got the mod. Ih and stay away from the intl version all together.

Yup its a paperweight. The Intl version has the system partition in a different place. So you borked an important one.
Only thing that's throwing me off is that the OP suggests he didn't actually get around to flashing the mod.

SGS3 T999v wont start up.
My sgs3 t999v would turn off by itself every other time I hit the lock button.
like I would be txting and then if I hit the lock button it would turn off.
So I though a factory reset would fix the problem. (volume up + home).
after the reset it still kept turning off randomly.
and now I cant even get it to the normal interface. or get in to the manual reset mode.
Device was previously jail broken, however was returned back to stock and was working fine for 3 months.
I had my otterbox on for every fall my phone had, so I dont think it would be a hardware issue.
the phone was running 4.1.1 I believe.
stock rom.
help please! :C

Can you get download mode? (Volume down, HOME and power)
Even though you have a case on it, it sounds like it was probably damaged by one of the falls. Most cases as far as I'm aware mostly protect the display. The shock from impact can still damage internal components, even with a case built with this in mind.

Hey thanks for replying!
I drained the battery and got a new charge in it and managed to get it booted up
however now the problem of the lock button is still here.
like if i use it to lock my screen it just turns off on me, and it takes multiple times for me to get the phone up and running again.
you could see if you could find a widget or widgets that will basically put a button on your screen that can power off, enable lock screen, reboot recovery/download, etc.
Then just use the HOME button to turn the screen back on.
It sounds to me like a hardware problem, but if you can flash another Rom and do a full wipe/factory reset you'll know for sure.
I hope this helps. Not sure what else you can do besides getting it repaired or replaced unfortunately.
Maybe someone else will have a better idea though.

[Q] just want to confirm if this is hard bricked

So I bought 2 sgh-t989 at the same time... one for me and the other for my sister
she lives in another city but whenever we see each other, I've always tried to make sure that her phone is running the exact same setup as mine just so I can always provide "tech support" for her phone
anyway, she went on some trip and afterwards, she said her phone wouldn't boot up anymore
since she couldn't get a hold of me, she brought her phone to a store to try and get it fixed (bad bad mistake)
she left the phone at the store for a day to determine how much it would cost to fix it
after being quoted $100 for the fix, she decided it was too much to pay and just took her phone back
long story short... a week later, I finally have the phone in my hand... and this phone won't boots up, i've put in fully charged batteries and when I press (and hold) the power button, it does absolutely NOTHING... not even that initial vibration when it boots up
i've tried to plug it to the computer and it doesn't get recognize
its permanently off and i can't, for the life of me, figure out just how to even boot this thing into TWRP... just so I can attempt to recover her files
SO.... my question... is this truly bricked?
do I have to break the news to her that all the pictures she took on the trip is now unrecoverable?
plug it into the computer and see what it gets recognized as. if its qualcomm823830283203 some like that its hardbricked

Now that my phone is back to stock, can anyone help me to load TWRP again. I have odin, latest USB drivers, and TWRP for my phone...but cant seem to get to the ODIN restore screen on the phone.
Volume Up, down, left right, left right, A, B Start. Oh wait I think that was for contra.....
Please help to get me to the Odin load on phone.
I can then flash TWRP thru odin, get to TWRP and load my favorite ROM.
Any GURUS, Please confirm that this is right. I remember a complicated process when rooting initially, loading root file on SD card, similar process up down ect....
But since the rom I am flashing is already rooted, is it required to go thru the gyrations. cant I just flash TWRP and flash a rooted rom?

I want to know if my phone is bricked, its a Samsung glaxy sgh-T898 (but from telus) i am using a cynagenmod custom rom 10
i was using it then it went idle then when i went to unlock it back, it shut off and started to repeatedly vibrate like a pulse
so i then did a battery pull and then it vibrate and the "Samsung sgh-t898 logo appeared" for a sec or 2 and the phone shut back off and did the pulsing vibrating thing
i got the same result when i plug it into the charger and computer, even plug it in without the battery in it and pulsing vibrating happen again.
ps this had happen in the past but the phone came on like after 5 mins of, its now been hours it wont come on just keep vibrating

Thanks for replying so quickly , i think you might be right about sticky power button, because when put in the battery the vibrates begins
automatically and then i try turn on then hold the power and volume keys it entered into download menu but for 2 secs then shut off again and begin to start vibrating(pulsing again)
so i guess the download menu means its not brick, will try suggestion once i get a proper torque screw driver

Battery pull required to get some things to work?

Hi all. Flashing my g/f's G Pro. First time working with this phone, though I've done this numerous times with my own phones. Also, she wanted to do it, I explained all the caveats, etc. (and I made a nandroid of her stock but rooted firmware).
Anyway, I use the root method described in a thread here, and it worked fine. Then I got FreeGee from the Play Store and used it to install TWRP 2.6.1.0. I then powered off, did the 3-button thing (power-vol up-home) to get into recovery, but the on-screen buttons aren't responsive. Did a battery pull, repeated the process, and it worked fine. Later on, I can't get it to boot into recovery with the 3 buttons, so I fire up adb, boot into recovery from there, but again on-screen buttons no worky. Battery pull allows the 3-button method to work again.
Then this morning, I try to flash gapps. Power menu reboot options don't seem to appear in CM 10.2 despite being set that way in its settings. 3-button thing doesn't work (I always end up back in CM). Adb sees the phone but tells me it's "offline". Do a battery pull to fix again.
Along with all that, some odd behavior around power off/on occurred, which I didn't document in detail. It made me think that the phone never really powers off, but rather goes into some kind of deep sleep (this is what made me think to pull the battery in the first place).
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else had seen that kind of behavior. It's not a big deal, since I can pull the battery to work around it, but it's something I've not seen with my phones.
(I will say that I'm amazed at the progress that has been made with this phone. I think last time I checked these forums a month or so ago this phone had just been rooted and there were no roms other than slightly modified stock.)
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4
After some more searching, I'm thinking that FreeGee may not be fixing the recovery issue as I first inferred. I'll have to try flashing madmack's "loki-fied" TWRP to see if that fixes it.
Bro. Power on by holding volume up + power. Hold that until you see the led lights blink twice and then once you see "boot success" let go of the buttons. This method is fail proof. Also, freegee is currently the best way to flash recovery FYI.

[Q] My TMO S3 (T-999) will not turn on.

I didn't have luck finding an answer to this on the forums so I figured I'd make a new post. I have been running a version (not sure which) of Liquid Smooth for a few months. Yesterday, I noticed my phone was on a boot loop. It would vibrate, show the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen and then turn off. I pulled the battery and memory card and tried again. It still wouldn't come on. I pulled the battery and then rebooted to recovery mode. I went there to wipe and reboot. When I tried to do that it said something like, "what you are looking for can't be found". I pulled the battery again but this time when I tried to turn it back on it did nothing. I have no vibrations, I have nothing on my screen. I'm not sure what could have happened because I haven't made a change to my phone for quite some time. Any ideas?

Have you tried booting into recovery or download mode?
Take battery out and put back in:
Recovery: volume up, home button, power
Download mode: volume down, home button and power

I tried all of this but did not have any luck. The phone doesn't do anything. It doesn't make any sense how it can just stop working out of nowhere like this. Wouldn't it mess up immediately after I rooted/added a custom ROM if I did something wrong rather than a few months later? I'm afraid that the phone may be done for. : (

I hate to say it, but usually when something like this happens it's most likely to be hardware related. If you don't have access to a spare, go to a T-Mobile store and ask to borrow a battery to see if it'll power up with a known good one. Batteries usually don't just die like that, but it can happen.
So you don't get a short vibe or anything out of it? What about when you hold the power button for about 10seconds? If you remove the battery and plug it in, do you get an led lit up? How about with the battery in?
If the battery turns out to be good, you could attempt the debrick method by KAsp3rd stickies in development. I don't see why it would be a brick, but at this point I'd try anything available just to be positive.
If you have insurance on it, it may be time to consider using it.
Sorry to hear this is happening to you man. These S3's are starting to get a little old though, and no matter how careful we are, they do suffer more abuse than any other electronics we may use. I'm seeing more and more posts like yours recently, I'm sorry to say.
Keep us updated on it, and good luck with it!

[HELP] Power off loop issue :(

So, lets cut to the chase here.
Was playing around with my CM10.1 powered Galaxy W when it shutsdown by itself when its on sleep mode.
I tried switching it back on and it just shows the "Samsung" brand name in verry short seconds and then repeats from the start. How to fix this manually? Am i suppose to go for SSC???

If you didn't install any custom kernel/mod/system tweak, then from CWM recovery, you could try the "wipe data/ factory reset" option. See if it helps in any way. Although...from what you're saying...looks like you've got some custom stuff in there. For this case, I'm afraid your only way out is by making a pristine install of that ROM.

I only flashed MonsterV15 ROM after i pristined everrything. Also, I can't go to CWM properly as my phone keeps rebooting. The boot sequence i guess is Samsung -> Model no. -> bootanime' but i can only go for the first step and then it reboots. Another thing i discovered is that my phone switches on by itself when i insert the battery

Well, both sound like ROM issues to me now. But apparently at least one of them (the reboot issue) should be fixed. So head over to the dev thread. Looks like there is some new stuff in there. Also if the auto-turn-on thing when inserting the battery is not fixed too, you might as well report this in that thread.

Uhm, actually, the auto-turn-on issue & reboot issue thing happens when i insert the battery as well. Also, i can assure you that this ain't ROM issue. Previously, when i used OneOfAKind ROM, i switched SIM cards and then the auto-turn-on issue & reboot issue happened from there. I left my phone and battery apart for a day and then tried putting it backand BOOM it came back to life. So from there, hoping tht THANG won't happen again in my whole life, i pristined installed MonsterV15 and all went well when the THANG happened once more and i ended up heree .___.

Standard battery? Could you try with another (maybe stock) battery. Also...does it happen with any CM version?
This ain't software related....it's hardware related.....guaranteed.
It's a faulty power button.
The power button is behaving as if it were being continuously held in.
If you continually hold the power button on a normally booting W I bet you could replicate these exact symptoms. The results would be the same on insertion of the battery too.....
I answered an identical question a few weeks ago in this forum....and having done some research on the issue, I can tell you the only way you're going to fix it is take it to a service centre where they'll replace the entire main board......the power button is soldered directly to it.....
I'm guessing you can't successfully enter download mode either? So flashing back to stock beforehand isn't an option either....that shouldn't be a problem though.....if you can't get the phone to boot, they won't be able to either.....so they won't be able to tell what OS you're running. Even if they can, there's NO WAY they can argue that running a cusROM caused the power button to fail. Don't forget that the warrantee on Samsung phones is 2 years........

yea... I totally agree with keithross39. it's hardware related... Me and @hurtsky have this problem before too~ what i did is, insert the battery (and it will power on automatically). then spam the power button while it's booting... and it successfully booted (because the power button is not 'holding' anymore), you will see the reboot dialog pop out or screen turning on and off automatically. If you are lucky (like me) i fixed it myself by spamming the power button add don't press the power button anymore.... For now, I use the notificationbar's widget as screenoff, use terminal emulator to reboot or reboot recovery. I know that's weird, But I don't want to send it samsung because my phone is not original, it's AP

UPDATE: guys, i took my phone to a repair shop to yeknow' gauge the amt of money to repair the phone. In SG, the galaxy w secondhand costs $135 ! I bought it firsthand at $330! So, i'm guessin' if the amt to replace the mainboard is too high, i'd just buy tht secondhand phone ... -.-
