well i swapped my first phone becouse it had a transparant line running down centre of screen this phone appears much better in that respect ie no transparant lines however i have some crazy colour banding which i dont remember seeing on first hand set , i was hoping for some quick feedback as i suspect this handset is a dud.
Ive included pictures but the camera ive used isent the best (htc desire) but it does hightlight the banding well. Ive tryed lowering brightness in settings which helps but this has a knock on effect with greys ie grey is no longer grey but purple. If i up brightness over 40% then i get this heavy colour banding, so im buggered either way :/
Take it back. I don't have any of that on my screen.
appreciate reply thanks phone returned again fingers crossed for next one
I remember reading somewhere that supercurio said the less noticeable lines are software. But you definitely have something funny going on there.
Were you able to resolve this via an exchange?

Hello. Received my HTC Desire today (typing this post on this lovely device)
Unfortunately, I'm noticing a subtle pinkish display instead of white and wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?
This is my first AMOLED display and wondering if this is normal or have I got a faulty display and should get it replaced?
sounds like a faulty display, as you can see on many videos on youtube none of them are pinkish
if you have another camera (or phone with cam) try to take a pic of it and post it. ... it does sound strange never heard anyone complain about the display
The only pinkish thing on my phone is background in Google Mail app. But that's how it's supposed to be I guess.
If the screen brightness is turned to a minimum, there is a certainly visible pinkish tint to the screen. This isn't bothering me though as I don't ever plan to reduce the backlight to that level!

I think that pinkishness (now that's a word!) comes from overall theme colors. If you turn it down to the minimum and visit a while page on your browser it won't look pinkish. At least it doesn't to me.
Thanks everyone. Tried the suggestions and here's what happened.
If I turn down the brightness, the subtle pinkish display becomes very pinkish, definitely exaggerates the pink hue effect ...
If I turn up the brightness to full, the pinkish display disappears.
Here's the funny thing ... Google Mail definitely has a slight pink hue, regardless of what the brightness level is but in all other apps, it doesn't ...
So, fellow xda'ers ... should I replace it or not ...? I wish I could say the subtle pink hue doesn't bother me, but I can't help notice it in Google Mail (which also happens to be my number one, most used application).
Really, I need to know whether this is a fault (or the start of this display becoming 'more' faulty) or just something that AMOLED displays generally exhibit ...
Your thoughts are much appreciated, as always ...

I would still recommend you take a pic of the screen in "normal" brightness and post it, .. that way every one can see and compare it to their own device (preferably use stock wallpaper).
This happens on the Nexus One too. There is nothing to be concerned about.

Hi, will try to take a photo ... I'm out and about at the mo, but will be home later tonight ... Will use my HTC HD2 to take the photo and post it up ...
Think hue you see is probably due to a characteristic of the amoled used in the Desire (and Nexus One). Have a read here.
I get this too I just assumed it was due to the AMOLED screen.

No i think his issue is something different, .. as he is noticing it on the pictures also not only text, ... (text is mostly effected because usually the black and white intersects, thast where the problem appears). however in the pictures, there should not be a problem (unless if this picture is black/white ofcourse)
I have this too, and I have two Desires - it only appears on one of them, so not all machines are the same. See my post new post from this morning.

can anyone of you please post a pic, ... i would really like to know how serious it is
It's NOT serious. In fact you could say the pinkish one is slightly warmer (which many people prefer), leaving the other machine looking slightly blue and colder.
Unless the machines are side by side, you'd never notice. There is probably more difference between your desktop computer and your laptop.
i have a zune hd and that is amoled and there is not even a slight hint of pink, so this is not something to do with amoled as a technology in general.
Figured I'd post this, clearly pink hue in comparison to the iphone. However this is one of the only videos I've noticed it in
Hmm, cant post links as I'm new,
youtube.com/watch?v=Tbb1b3AXOGs
Yes, just wanted to post that one. I found another one.
Funny thing is that some devices have that effect, some of them hoesn 't (or effect is not visibile on video).
Hey guy,
So a friend of mine had a strange problem with his htc desire
Last night while reading some stuff his displayed color changed,
first thing i noticed was the rly pinkish tint, everything was slightly pink Oo
noticed this Thread but that wasnt the issue here
hope u guys can see sth, it seems its only 8bit color depth, 256 color
since some pictures are getting some rly ugly "blocks" in it
Well my question is, is the display broken? should he get a new one?
can a new rom fix this problem?
Thanks in advance
Kemo~
Try resetting brightness to auto.
we did that already, the pink tint increases with lower brightness
we also did a hardreset of the phone nothing changed
When i take a picture with ddms.bat it looks normal
its rly strange :/
Is it an LCD (slcd) or AMOLED Desire?
Its an amoled
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The AMOLED screen on the Desire has more red pixels (not quite right, but the easiest way to put it) then blue or green. What this means, is that the screen of the Desire is inherently tinted red. This is mainly more noticeable when the brightness is at low level as the color spectrum on a screen uses light to adjust the colors. With less light, the red has more of a bleed through effect and becomes noticeable. I really don't notice it unless it is at VERY low light or I have the screen with a white background and next to a device with another high end type of display such as the iPhone 4 or the Galaxy S which don't have the bleed through effect... well, with red anyways... they have the effect with blue.
Strange... I've seen oled displays look like that after only a year but that's in very rare cases. They wear out but not just like that if it happened almost insantly.
Did you look at the display just when it happened, did the other colors just sort of fade away or did they go in a snap?
it happend in an instant, an no i didnt have a look at it when it happend
but it seems the display is broken
well he gonna replace it, lucky he still has warranty =)
Thanks guys for the replies
Cheers

Hi, I have a Problem with Red Colour on my Gnex.
When I use Vodoo colour test patterns, When I switch to Red I have stripes int the red field. This only happens with Red color.
I never noticed that before, can be that this was there since i have this device (since release) or it is there since a few weeks.
Can somebody check if this is normal or if my device has a problem with display!?
I'm on Jelly bean already tried different kernels, also with color improvement. seems to be also with stock!
When I make a screenshot, and have a look on it on a normal PC screen, then the Red color is completely ok.
So iassume that something with my Gnex screen is wrong. Would be nice If somebody can give me feedback!
Are your stripes horizon all over the screen? Yes I have this too. They began at the top and spread down over the first month of usage. I think its normal for this phone.
---- moved, wrong forum, sorry------
Yes, they are horizon. But red is the only color where this happens, all other colors are without stripes.
Looking a little stupid in some apps licke kicker for example!
Anyone else experiencing theese problems?
I only would liekt to figure out if this is normal or if it is a defect!
I also have this issue, it happens in all colors but more obvious in red.its annoying as **** when you start noticing it.when i record videos its really obvious in dim light. Im just glad im not the only one.:/

I have also noticed this sh** , but my brother nexus does not have the same problem
any one knows why ?
My guess it's a side effect of the pentile matrix. AMOLED screens have a significantly lower life span than your traditional LCD screen and does degrade with time. This is also noticed in how the color balance gets very off with time (and does pretty dramatic changes over just the span of 1 month!), usually colors meant to be neutral looks very ugly green-tinted.
As for my screen? I noticed it in all the primary colors. Red was for sure had most visible "banding" but when I looked closely I noticed it as well in the green and blue as well (green being the least visible).
My Gnex is a year and a few months old as I've had it since February last year.
same thing happened to my screen in about 1_2 weeks when I got my phone. All colors were affected, but red is the most obvious. Pentile is ****

But why my brother's nexus is still ok ? although he bought his nexus before me ?
So are you saying that any pentile screen would face this ?

Do you really need someone to point out that not all screens are made equal? If it drives you to distraction, root and install Trinity Kernel or Franco's Kernel (which has Trinity's Contrast) they have a plethora of colour options.
I run a very icy-white colour on my Nexus.
HI, my display is darker on the right side if I put a gray color in fullscreen with low brightness. I'm using swift dark substratum. OnePlus told me that it is a defect of all amoled. Does it happen to you too? sorry for my English. See attachments. Thank you.
Mine is noticably darker in the lower part of the screen. I've read tons of reviews and stopped worrying about it -- the AMOLED displays can't show consistent color by nature.
I had this problem on my OP3 but I left it too long thinking I'd get used to it so I couldn't return for a refund or exchange. Don't leave it too long and get yourself a refund or exchange if possible. That's cleary a defective screen.
Fortunately my new 5T is so much better. And is pretty even with the screen uniformity.
I have this issue but only at certain brightness levels, fortunately it's very minor to the point where I can't notice it unless I'm actively looking for it
I've had 4. All the same uneven tints. But but different from left from right which is off putting when reading or looking at content with white or grey backgrounds. Sending it back trying something else
Well, this frustrates me a lot,I'm just uploading video so you can see and compare to some cheap other chinese phone.
I'm noticing yellow tone all over screen, kinda like there is a night filter on with very low bright nightlight settings.
I increased brightness all the way to 100 % didn't help.
I also removed plastic cover from phone, nothing, still present.
I even switched to Vivid display settings before that and reduced RGB (R channel all the way,G to middle and Blue increased all the way) and set tone color to cooler slider all the way,no difference.
So,since I purchased using phone,is this some software bug/issue or I got faulty screen (maybe some kind of damage from sunburn),or this is just how this display work?
I'm uploading video and will post link soon...
So anyone else having same issue, and what to do,be sure I can not RMA the phone since I purchased it used.
I'm also anxious that the screen might die on me soon.
But this yellow tone frustrates me a lot, colors are not accurate at all because of it.
does it show in safe mode? what happens after reboot, goes away and come back later or...?

Hmm,why would I want to access safe mode,I don't have issues with phone except bad wifi and this issue.Mostly it's noticeable while watching vids (youube),look here if you can see the difference...but maybe it is suppose to be like that.
I set color mode all the way to cool tone and no difference to my eye.
I called a friend on a drink which has N10+ too, then we put 4k Nature video on each of the phones at same time and same screen lightning intensity.
No diference,between them...so now I'm confused totally.
Are my eyes cheating on me,is it possible that there is slight yellow tint (like light night light filter) or something is wrong with my eyes?
Is it possible that maybe screen adapts it self based on ambient light so I'm seeing yellowish tone...who knows, but I do trust my eyes, though picture was the same color accuracy on both phones...
I'm totally confused now...
I have currently 2 note 10+ phones. One which still has the original display while on the 2nd I installed a new display with frame. Comparing both these phones now, the older display - about 1.5 years old with light screen burn on the bottom is more yellow than the new one. The new one is very white compared to the old one. Maybe your display is showing its age?
damn...it was a damn mask/cover with yellow tint over it,not display...how was I stupid.
Some weird posts here, didn't you say you removed the film earlier ?
