Yes. Sim unlocked and Security Off flag are two different things.

You would still have 2.1 this is how i started;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
and then i just jumped to a cooked ROM
as for over the air im not actually too sure about that might be a matter of jkust flashing to the 2.2 when it eventually drops in like 2weeks - 2months
Thanks, DanTehManUK.
That was is a very useful link, thanks for being so helpful...
Its what we do
could you help me pleez! i am on a branded htc desire 2.2 with hboot 0.93.

have you been able to unlock your phone by rooting it?
Rooting doesn't SIM unlock the phone, you still need to get a code for that
I unlocked my phone in five minutes by ringing the phone company the phone was locked to.
You can use the app in the general forum to sim unlock the phone - no codes, no cost.

Use the desire sim unlock utility in the development thread. I've used it numerous times and it always works and it's free.

[Q] Root HTC Wildfire S ?

I read somehow on XDA.cn bout rooting. But i am not sure what to do! is there any easy way so i can root my wildfire s and start using custom roms?
Q) Can I root my phone?
A- Yes, only if you have S-OFF
Q) How do I get S-OFF on my phone?
A- Currently there is only one method and that's by using XClip.
Q) Will HTC Wildfire S get S-OFF later?
A- Maybe. HTC has recently released HTCdev.com where they'll be unlocking bootloaders of devices. There are chances that our device may also be in the list but it won't be anywhere soon.

Help for a friend, in need of rooting tutorials

A friend of mine has a wildfire S and is sick of the constant lack of memory messages so he's considering rooting his device. I'm looking for every tutorial you need to root the phone as well as how to "s-off" for one tutorial in the dev section that didn't have this, that's why I'm asking so I can get him started.
Can anyone help me out with this please? I'm assuming its not possible to follow the standard HTC Wildfire rooting guides.
Thanks,
Dave

Look at the general section, there is a index thread
Swyped from my desire s running damn sweet ice cream
I note that in most of them you need an XTC clip, is there an easy way around this? the ones that don't use it are CDMA models, without any more info on the phone in question I can't understand much more myself, so which method of rooting have you guys used?
Rooting tutorial is in a stick in this forum...
Yes you need an XTC-Clip to S-OFF the phone for permanent root.
GSM - XTC Clip
CDMW - Software S-Off
The end!!!
Sorry but you are just another spamer who does not wat to read...
Please stop opening such threads, first searcu for it...

Unfortunately not yet, if you got no cdma version (without Sim slot) you need an xtc-clip to gain s-off.
You can get one at e-bay or go to a second hand seller that also does repairs, I unlocked my gf wfs at one of those shops for €20, but I can't guaranty that all of them got one.

In what world am I just another spammer? I'm simply looking for some help on these forms on a phone I have no experience with before I go off and tell my mate to do something incorrectly. If it bothers you that much don't read the thread. As much as people like me bother people like Tectas, they still help even if it pisses them off which I thank them for.
Tectas, thanks for that, if you don't get the s-off can you still root the phone or what happens then? I recall not getting s-off on my sisters desire and managed to root it using superoneclick. The only thing was lots of ROMs wouldn't work.

[Q] Is there any way to gain temporary-root without unlock/S-OFF ?

Hi, Im planning to modify /etc/hosts,
Is there any way to do this without S-OFF / HTCDev ?
Thanks,
S-off it is not possible in HOX for now.

Yeah...follow any one of the many guides on rooting the One X. We don't have S-OFF. Did you read anything before asking this question?

It's not possible at the moment.
How about TacoRoot ? Anyone try ?
I know this works on my oldie stock/factory desire,
and TacoRoot claims to be "HTC Universal Root Exploit 12-30-2011"
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/unlock-virtually-any-htc-bootloader-without-voiding-warranty/
i found this but haven't tried it just read the post
If they worked on the One X we would know by now. The One X has been around for a few weeks and to date there is no way to get S-OFF.

the OP isn't after s-off, just root/unlock without going though HTCdev site.

He's welcome to try any tool he sees but I am not game especially if there's a risk of bricking the phone.
PS:
The utility is for a wildfire S CDMA, makes me more cautious using it.

Please help me in getting S-OFF on Nougat?

If you don't use Sunshine, the only option is a Java card/clip. They're fairly expensive, although there are some users who are willing to share their hardware to help other users who live nearby.

Ye, the only way without sunshine would be with an xtc clip or Java card, and they are expensive.
On nougat, unlock your bootloader, flash twrp and follow these instructions https://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/guide-htc-one-m9-nougat-downgrade-s-off-t3554665
to downgrade to marshmallow and run sunshine. Then, you would be s-off.
That's the only accessible way unfortunately, unless you know someone with a Java card or something?
Hope this helps,
Jev
Thanks for all your answers!
I've already rooted my phone succesfully on S-ON, I just want to have S-OFF in case I want to install custom roms on my mobile.
I'm just a bit mean that I'm not willing to pay 25$ for just making my phone S-OFF..
But as I'm reading your comments it seems like there's no other way getting S-OFF.
You are aware of the fact that S-OFF has nothing to do with the capability of installing custom roms, aren't you?
