I cannot mount usb storage or sdcard storage. At one point the nandriod backup worked. I even bought an external micro sdcard for the EpicTouch. I tried CWR version 5.0.2.6.
I flashed the Starburst 1.98r Rom but my CWR is back to version 5.0.2.3 and I still cannot mount and do a restore/backup
Andriod 2.3.4
kernel version 2.6.35.8-LoStKernelExp+
Build Number StarBurst11.13.11 v1.9.8r
Recovery v5.0.2.3
Current BASEBAND S710.10 W.EG30
How do I fix this? What Recovery version should I be running?
Version 5.0.2.7 will default a nandroid backup to external SD card. I know Chris has it in his kernels. I am not sure but I assume the newest Rogue does as well

Try loading ROM manager from the market and with it you can upgrade CWM to 5.0.2.7.

You cannot upgrade recovery via rom manager.. it fake flashes cwm... Only way to upgrade is with a new kernel

My bad. Sorry for the mis-information.
Hey Chris and the rest of you guys. Thanks for the information. I'll look for a compatible kernel to flash.
Cheers
installed the Rogue kernel through CWM update from zip, which is 2.6.35.14-rogue_ET-1.1.3+
CWM is now 5.0.2.7, but still cannot mount internal or external sdcard.

download mode, odin, ??????????, profit
well right now i have no files on my internal sd card cause i formatted that :S
i think one way i can fix it is if i can restore from external sd card which i can't find a cwm recovery version that supports it at the moment...
Have you tried using TeamWin recovery? I cant confirm if it reads external SD but others have reported that it does.

thanks infamous_cheez
i flashed twrp through odin and flashed a new rom from external sdcard since i only have a 1gb microsd on hand.
thank you so much!
External sdcard readers and a recovery that reads external (cwm touch 4.8.4.5) ftw. I'm pretty sure twrp does read ext also though.

Just noticed it will not use the external 64 gb SD card formatted as exfat. Are there any newer versions that will work with it,and still be able to restore older backups. Thanks.

well considering CWM 5.8... what ever is old... i would suggest trying the newest CWM. 6.0.1.2
Download Rom Manager from the market to install the newest CWM.
or move your backups off your external sd to your internal sd and restore them from there...
note: cwm 5.8.... if i remember correctly had the external and internal backwards, and cwm 6.0.1.2 has them correct..
for further information, cwm has their own website... clockworkmod.com

Didn't really answer my question.. intrrnal and external are not backwards in my version. And from what I've read 6.x still does not support xfat. And also if I upgrade I will not be able to restore my backups.

Connect your card to your computer directly and format it to fat32.

Doubt its going to happen. Try TWRP, it might support it but idk.

Did More digging apparently EXfat is not open source so even the latest recoveries ie 6.0.1.2 don't support it .

I read a while ago that becuase it would require a license from Micrsoft, CWM will never support exFat. I strongly suggest that you don't format your 64Gb card to FAT32. The performance of that card will degrade greatly. You should just get an 8Gb card to use with CWM.

I don't understand how that is possible, when exfat is significantly slower that fat32 by design...

I have a problem, I cannot restore my backups from my 32GB external SD card via TWRP or CWM
.
I am using my AT&T i747. I rooted this device using the following guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822308
I've installed TWRP 2.3.1 via GooManager, and I've installed CWM 6.0.1.4 via the guide listed above.
I am currently on the stock AT&T (Rooted) ROM 4.0.4.
Is it possible to backup/restore from the external SD card? I would appreciate the help.
I have a 32GB and use TWRP all the time with it. You must be doing something wrong. Not sure what tho

Same exact thing happened to me. I just went back to cwm and have no issues again. Was pretty ticked at the time though

I'm on a 4.1 .2 ROM and I'm using rom manager recovery what recovery do I need if I want to use 4.2 and what if I already have a recovery can I use two at the same time.or do I need to delet rom manager.
I have read that the newest ClockworkMod Recovery will not create the nested "/0" folders.
I recommend using the latest TWRP though.
You can update ClockworkMod from ROM Manager or you can install TWRP from the GooManager app.

Yes it will overwrite. You just need to flash it. And yes twrp works with 4.1.2

I was having no problems using and accessing my external sd card from within CWM. Than after some flashes and wipes trying out different roms, and even a complete reset to original rom through ODIN to try and fix it. I can no longer use my external sd card in CWM. It says something along the lines of E:/ cannot mount external sd. Does anyone know what could be causing this, and if there are any solutions?

If the card still reads on your PC I would try to take everything off it and re-format the card. Also maybe try TWRP.I don't have CWM right now but there is probably a selection in it to mount/unmount sd.I know in TWRP the option is there.
HaHa, I had the same problem last night and after spending 5 hrs +, I finally fix it...
After flashing some PA, Jellybam roms, both recovery and the rom can no longer see my mircoSDXC 64gb card. Flashing the latest cwm or twrp did't work. Doing numerous quick and full format on the card to fat32 and exfat didn't work. Restore the stock rom and finally the rom can see the card; however recovery still can't read it. Formatting the card with the rom didn't work. Went to the store and grab a brand new card and still no luck. FINALLY... odin a new cwm recovery fix the problem.... :banghead:

Did you use goo manager to flash? That just pushes the recovery img to the phone not flash it. Ive never had a problem with TWRP with any phone or tablet ive used. CWM on the other hand....thats a different story.

Here's my data point. I had the exact problem of clockworkmod unable to mount external sd card while making a nandroid backup. I tried it via the paid ROM manager plus app without any luck. I sent them a log file.
Then I tried goo manager + twrp and it worked. I donated to twrp.

GooManager/TWRP worked for me.
Sucks trying to use internal memory to flash with only 16GB total.
This is a limitation of driver support for ExFAT, you can force windows into formatting fat32 using a 3rd party utility like this one:
