T-Mobile, Nokia tout 'something exciting' for next week

T-Mobile USA and Nokia have sent out invitations to an event that hypes up "something exciting in the works," likely the first Nokia Windows Phone to hit the United States.
The media event is scheduled for next Wednesday.
The event will likely mark Nokia's latest attempt to get back into the U.S. market. After years of languishing with phones on an aging operating system, Nokia is back with a bit more excitement around its Windows Phone-powered line of Lumia devices. While the phone has already launched elsewhere in the world, it has yet to find a home in the U.S.
T-Mobile, shut off from offering Apple's iPhone, struggling with regulators over a merger with AT&T and, as a result, in need of some positive buzz itself, is likely to take a chance on the Lumia.
Check back with CNET next week for the latest coverage.

Nokia already made its first handsets running under Windows Phone available for purchase in various markets around the world, and info on new devices from the company has just started to emerge.
Among these, we can mention Nokia Lumia 900, the high-end device that emerged on the web a few times before, along with another handset from the company, codenamed Champagne.
Both smartphones were spotted in the stats of a news reader available for the Windows Phone platform, namely Times Of India, which clearly indicates that they are powered by Microsoft’s mobile OS.
What the app stats show is that Nokia Lumia 900 users have accessed the software, indicating that the device might be in field testing at the moment.
If so, then we might see the mobile phone going official in early 2012, maybe in January at CES, or next month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Rumored specs for the device would include a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, along with a 1.4 GHz single-core application processor, an 8MP camera on the back 16GB of internal memory, and support for HSPA+ networks.
The handset was already rumored to be on its way to the market during the first quarter of the next year, and chances are that the rumor might actually pan out.
In Q1 2012, Microsoft also plans on making its Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 available in more markets around the world, and Latin America is a market that should receive them at that time.

Stephen Elop recently confirmed plans to have the two smartphones available in some of the South American markets in early 2012, including Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico or Puerto Rico.
Nokia released these devices only in a few markets this year, and should bring them to more countries soon, including the aforementioned ones, and some others more, as it kicks off mass production of these smartphones.
Nokia Lumia 710 Rumors Target US, UK Releases

While the Nokia Lumia 800 has been stealing the spotlight, the manufacturer recently turned its attention to promoting the 710, in anticipation of its wide release. Just when will the phone be available where? The Windows Phone handset had been marked as "coming soon" on Nokia's US site, and while it was initially supposed to have its UK debut in November, those plans have been put on-hold. A couple of new finds may just shed some light on the 710's story.
In the UK, retailer Digital-phone.co.uk has updated its page for the Lumia 710 to show the phone's availability as beginning on January 6. We don't know when the site plans to actually start shipping the phone out to customers, but according to this, it will receive its stocks during that first week of January. So far, no other UK retailers have confirmed a date for the Lumia 710's arrival.
Last we heard, the Lumia 710 may come to the US as the Sword on T-Mobile, again in early 2012. While we don't even have a rumored release date just yet, we may be about to find out. Invitations being distributed for an event to be jointly hosted by T-Mobile and Nokia, set to take place on December 14. There are no specific clues to what might be featured, but we'd be surprised not to learn more about the carrier's plans for the 710. Check back with us in a week to see what's revealed.
looks like Tmobile gets the 710
T-Mobile US Nokia Lumia 710 confirmed by manual at FCC

We still don’t know exactly what Nokia and T-Mobile US is announcing on the 14th, but it seems the Nokia Lumia 710 is very likely, with TMoNews uncovering this picture from the Lumia 710 manual at FCC.
Does this handset excite anyone on the US carrier, who have been denied a number of high-end devices now, such as the HTC Titan, Samsung Focus S and possibly the Nokia Lumia 800 also now.
More pages can be seen at TMoNews here.
not to impressed on the 710, im looking for a high-end device from Nokia on Tmobile or unlocked maybe even ATT
I'm not terribly excited about the 710 coming to the US, but if you're not interested in a FFC it might be a better buy than the Radar 4G. Also, the Radar 4G was the 3rd best selling device at T-Mobile in November, so maybe there is a big market there for value priced devices.
I've kinda veered away from HTC from the many problems and the lack of design that they Implement. I'm going to hold out a little longer to see what else they are going to give us before I upgrade. Can't wait for Apollo

Rumour: Nokia Ace coming to both Verizon and AT&T in Q1 2012
Rumour: Nokia Ace coming to both Verizon and AT&T in Q1 2012
December 9, 2011 | By Surur
We have just received a hot tip about the upcoming Nokia Ace, confirming the leaked specs and also adding LTE to the mix.
The phone will apparently Nokia’s first LTE device, and the first they will be marketing in USA – sorry Lumia 710.
According to our tipster the hardware is ready to go, and the device is just waiting for the Tango OS. Nokia is pushing for a late-January release, while a mid-March release is more likely.
AT&T is guaranteed the device, but apparently Verizon is also pushing hard to be a launch partner.
The specs is as leaked earlier – 4.3" screen, 8megapixel camera, 16gb storage, Windows Phone Tango OS , 1.4Ghz CPU, LTE support.
Is this the device our readers will be waiting for? Let us know below.

word on the street is that WM6 will be released on February 12th at the 3GSM conference in Barcelona, Spain.
there are commercialization adaptation kits being released to OEM's so in the time for OEMs to release their official products, then you can estimate that the first commercial release of WM6 will be around late March or early April

Street....is that like some secret street that no one knows about?
MS has already "official" stated that the OEM's have been given WM6. We should see devices coming very soon.
Street....more like it's already on the highway.
More like check out MSMobile.com here is a snippit and check out the last part about Dash owners. Go to the site to read the rest but I guess T-Mobile dash owners will also be able to upgrade not sure how or if it will cost but how sick!

Microsoft announces Windows Mobile 6.0
February 12, 2007 [General]
Now it is not just a mention on a blog of some Microsoft employee but official story from Microsoft! Interestingly some Windows Mobile phones powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6, including T-Mobile Dash (i.e. HTC Excalibur)!
... Another Snippit
By the second quarter of this year, the world will see the first Windows Mobile 6 powered devices available on the market. In Europe, Orange plans to deliver the SPV E650 smartphone from HTC, and in Japan, SoftBank Mobile Corp. will offer new devices from Toshiba and HTC. And in the United States, the popular T-Mobile Dash will be updated with Windows Mobile 6 and be available in the coming months. Current T-Mobile Dash owners will also be able to upgrade existing devices with Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6.
finally some pics for the 900 leaked. here is the link http://wmpoweruser.com/nokia-lumia-900-picture-leaked-by-microsoft-partner/
Looking good! Wouldn't mind buying one of these
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=PsfyxRxRYog
Does it look like Lumia 800? Yes, but with bigger display... Maybe 900?
I want that red Lumia 900, cant wait till March 18
It looks like the Nokia 800. Maybe with better specs ?
rumor mill said it will be AT&T LTE based model and Verizon wireless should be getting one....(crossing fingers on that, I would sign a 2 year today if Verizon had one)
Sucks that ATT doesnt have LTE in my area right now but I will have to pay for LTE service even though they dont offer it yet in my area. Verizon LTE towers are up and running in my area though
It look great. If Nikia release white lumnia 900. I will buy one.
pretty good, but i don't like the completely same design with 800 or N9. N9's design is creative, but 800 and 900's is not creative.
Looks great, I'd like a blue one
Apparently it may sport a 4.3 in screen, if so and someone unlocked this thing plus have decent optics like the HTC titan, then i may have to retire my HD2 back to Windows Mobile and send my Touch HD to where all good phones go to die, Africa apparently
Looks good, but I waiting for Lumia 1000.
this phone looks like it is coming to att for sure but verizon not so much.

We're expecting to fill in the final details in a few short days at CES, where Nokia has also been rumored to introduce another mid-range Windows Phone, the Lumia 719.

Interesting that it says it ships with Mango. I was under the impression they couldn't do LTE without Tango.

Some of the rumors have mentioned a modified Mango to support LTE but wont necessarily be rolled out to all devices. Guess we'll see.
Unfortunately, Nokia's Windows Phone almost kicked out from South Korea.
Korea's operator KT sold Nokia's Lumia 710 by subscription from Dec 22(local time), but it took about a week to sell 710 devices. not 710,000. just 710 devices.
i think that Korean people is waiting for "bus" phone(in Korea, it means phone that can buy with intra-city bus fee; of course with contract. bus fee is about 1$ in South Korea.). Because all of Nokia symbian smartphone became "bus" phone in 2 month in Korea.
well, 710 released on Dec 26, but it is approached to bus phone. very sad news

Not sure about how Phones work at South Korea but the titles of this thread made me think that South Korea reject Windows Phone from MS somehow... lol.
"bus" phone
Sounds to me like NFC needs to be enabled. They must have an app that allows them to pay for bus ride(?). That sounds pretty cool if thats the case. Hopefully Tango will address NFC.

Yes, this is also my main concern about the post, since i have no idea what bus phone is.
But if that the case, pay the bus fee by phone and it goes directly to the phone account would be cool. I don't have to worry about forgetting my wallet at home whenever i don't have my car.
So far there are no signs at all that the Lumia is coming to the UK, which so far means that there is no true 2nd gen device coming from nokia. I dont count the Lumia 800 as a 2nd gen device, it dosnt even have a front facing camera!!! I suspect that the HTC Titan 2 wont be coming to the UK either..... thanks for leaving your most loyal countries out nokia.
There was a map on the nokia website detailing what phones were goign where. Basically in the UK we are only getting the 710 and 800.
It is disappointing as I am due an upgrade in April and whilst the 800 seems the most likely upgrade prospect there is nothing that really stands head and shoulders above my Omnia (considering there is an 18 month time period between there is no massive advancement).
I'm torn about what to do. I need to upgrade as the Omnia hasn't worked right since Mango with data connection problems. No carriers in the UK even offer the HTC Titan... the only choices on Orange currently are the 800, radar or mozart.
It is frustrating that there is such a high end Nokia handset out there, but we are only offered the mid and low range.
its not high end. tegra 3 is high end...

Too bad Android takes the high out of high-end.
This is exactly the kind of complaining you heard in the US last fall when the 800 was released to Europe, but not to the States.
Don't worry! Nokia is steadily designing and releasing phones - Europe will get its 900 level flagship phone. Keep in mind that Nokia just released the N9 last September. It has a lot of holes in it's lineup to refresh before it gets back to addressing the top. When it does, and Europe has the bright, shiny new Super Lumia, you will once again here the whining masses from the US curse their fate and complain that they "only" have a Lumia 900.

That's the phone Elop meant when he spoke about the Lumia 1000 not launching in the US - only Europe in March. Mmmmm - 64GB of goodness....

My Lumia 900 Was meant to be sent off tomorrow, Received this email today, What a shocker
Dear Customer ,
Thank you for your order for the amazing new Nokia Lumia 900 Windows phone from Phones4U, you are going to be one of the first people in the UK to experience the phone that has taken North America by storm since its launch earlier this month. When you placed your order with us, neither Nokia nor Phones4U were fully aware of how successful the Lumia 900 launch would be. Due to the current level of demand for the Nokia Lumia 900, we will not now be able to send you your device on the 27th April.
In the UK, the Nokia Lumia 900 will be available exclusively from Phones4U from the 14th of May. We apologise for what will be a short delay and we expect to be able to send you your new Nokia Lumia 900 on the 14th May.
We understand that you will be disappointed so, in addition to receiving your free Nokia Play 360 wireless speaker, we would like to inform you that, as you were among the first people in the UK to order your Lumia 900, you will also now receive a set of Nokia Purity by Monster in ear headphones (RRP £99.99). We know that this will not make your Lumia appear any faster, but we hope it will make the wait a little more bearable.
Kind regards
Phones4U & Nokia
There is too much demand for this phone in the US right now that's why it is delayed. They want to have enough stocks for AT&T.
Always amazes me how across the pond get everything first eh we normally get left with ****ty colour options and barrel scrapings, Then again at least it wont have AT&T branding
