O2 ANNOUNCES PLANS TO FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF HIGHLY ACCLAIMED Xda® II
Press Release
Having secured over a third of the UK’s wireless handheld market* with the Xda II, O2 today announced its intention to introduce the Xda IIs. This new device will include new enhancements to the integrated PDA and mobile handset, whilst retaining the core functions of the original Xda II platform that have proved so popular with both consumer and business customers. The Xda IIs will be available in the UK and Ireland on 1st November 2004 and Germany by the end of the year.
Aimed primarily at the professional user, the Windows Mobile™ based Xda lls offers a number of new features over the original Xda II. The biggest addition is a 39-key, slide-out QWERTY keyboard for added usability. This user-friendly addition enables customers to use the device more easily for applications such as email, contacts, calendar, texting and editing using well known Microsoft® Office tools. The new device will also include BlackBerry® Connect™ from early 2005.
The Xda IIs also boasts a 25% increase in battery life over the original Xda II, as well as enhanced WLAN capabilities and quad band connectivity, all of which will be of particular benefit to those customers frequently out of the office or those that travel regularly. Laurence Alexander, Director of Products and Devices at O2 UK said, “The Xda series has been extremely successful and having gained top reviews across the industry, it is now recognised as a leader in its field.
By combining a high specification product, cutting-edge functionality, quality features, contemporary design and competitive pricing and packages, we have no doubt that this new device will continue to win new customers and ultimately market share. It demonstrates our commitment in leading in the mobile data space and offering the best customer experience through technological innovation.”
Early next year, O2 will also be launching the Xda IIi a Windows® Mobile based device that runs on the latest Windows 2003 2nd edition software and is faster than the Xda II due to its advanced Intel PXA270 processor, which runs at 520MHz. The device also upgrades from a 0.3Mp to 1.3 Mp camera, which gives significantly higher quality pictures. This makes it a preferable option for those who regularly use the camera function and want a device with a slightly faster performance.
Launched in November 2003, more than 100,000 Xda ll devices have been sold by O2 in the UK, Germany, Ireland and throughout Asia Pacific. Sales continue to show steady growth with the device gaining approximately 20% market share overall across the countries in which O2 operates in just six months since its launch.
The Xda II has proved a popular choice for both consumers and corporate customers alike. O2 recently announced that the Xda II achieved over a third of the wireless handheld market* in the UK and this is set to grow with the continued uptake of mobile technology from companies such as Cantor Index, London Borough of Lewisham and the Sadie Frost fashion label Frost French.

very good.
Hi All,
my upgrade is due at the end of this month, 28th October. im from the UK, Will HD3/7 be released by Tmobile end of this month or will i need to move to another phone provider?
wp7 launched in UK on 21st october if that's any help..
You're in luck, then! Windows Phone 7 appears to be coming to T-Mobile USA sometime in November, and it looks like the HD7 might be their premiere device:
http://windowsphone7central.com/pages/index.php/htchd7
Unless you're talking about T-Mobile UK, though. I'm not sure when they're getting WP7, but presumably soon.
The Device-Launch in Uk (Europe) ist the 21st october
I've heard next to nothing about who/where will be stocking Windows Phone handsets at launch tomorrow morning ... the only thing I've heard is the Orange store Oxford Street will be opening at 7am.
Anybody have news on who'll have SIM free HTC WP7 handsets tomorrow??
I've been trying to track down sim-free handsets myself and the best I've come up with is the Dell Venue Pro which is available to order from Clove, for delivery on the 8th November.
It's proving to be quite difficult to find sim-free phones, especially ones with a keyboard.
No news on high-street stores selling sim-free.
This is really annoying actually...
Big announcement from Microsoft 21st October lanuch in Europe !!! but no Carriers appear to be launching tomorrow... I called Orange the MAIN LAUNCH PARTNER and they say HTC Mozart next week and Samsung Omnia (Orange name will be Cetus) by the end of October... Their STAFF HAVE NO CLUE about WP7 and no details about 8gb or 16gb memory or prices or specific dates etc etc... They just said Nokia N8 confirmed for Friday and New HTC Androids also next week... F$%K knows whats going on!! ....... really good start Microsoft !!!!
I dont know about london but i know the Orange store in london is getting both omnia 7 and the mazart in tomorrow both are 8gb. The Fareham store (town nearer to me) said they will have stock arriving today for sale tomorrow but did not know what they where getting as it depends what there sent from main office.
I have seen some sim free deals around but cant remember off my head where as i will need a contract boo to being poor lol
O2UK have the HD7 in their "Coming Soon" list. Apparently expected 21st Oct

I called the Orange Store in Croydon they have no idea if WP7 handsets will be there tomorrow....
Thanks for all your replies - sadly it doesn't look like I've missed any launch day availability information then ... it certainly is frustrating.
I suspect pre-ordering online and waiting a few weeks for most of the handsets to ship will be the best option ... unfortunately.
Still hope to be surprised though!
hd7, surround and focus only.. no dell..

Yeah, sadly I think it's only available in Microsoft's actual stores until the 15th when it releases on Dell.com.
Dell and Microsoft should be selling that phone in their own stores when its been released in a few days.

T-Mobile, Nokia tout 'something exciting' for next week

T-Mobile USA and Nokia have sent out invitations to an event that hypes up "something exciting in the works," likely the first Nokia Windows Phone to hit the United States.
The media event is scheduled for next Wednesday.
The event will likely mark Nokia's latest attempt to get back into the U.S. market. After years of languishing with phones on an aging operating system, Nokia is back with a bit more excitement around its Windows Phone-powered line of Lumia devices. While the phone has already launched elsewhere in the world, it has yet to find a home in the U.S.
T-Mobile, shut off from offering Apple's iPhone, struggling with regulators over a merger with AT&T and, as a result, in need of some positive buzz itself, is likely to take a chance on the Lumia.
Check back with CNET next week for the latest coverage.

Nokia already made its first handsets running under Windows Phone available for purchase in various markets around the world, and info on new devices from the company has just started to emerge.
Among these, we can mention Nokia Lumia 900, the high-end device that emerged on the web a few times before, along with another handset from the company, codenamed Champagne.
Both smartphones were spotted in the stats of a news reader available for the Windows Phone platform, namely Times Of India, which clearly indicates that they are powered by Microsoft’s mobile OS.
What the app stats show is that Nokia Lumia 900 users have accessed the software, indicating that the device might be in field testing at the moment.
If so, then we might see the mobile phone going official in early 2012, maybe in January at CES, or next month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Rumored specs for the device would include a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, along with a 1.4 GHz single-core application processor, an 8MP camera on the back 16GB of internal memory, and support for HSPA+ networks.
The handset was already rumored to be on its way to the market during the first quarter of the next year, and chances are that the rumor might actually pan out.
In Q1 2012, Microsoft also plans on making its Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 available in more markets around the world, and Latin America is a market that should receive them at that time.

Stephen Elop recently confirmed plans to have the two smartphones available in some of the South American markets in early 2012, including Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico or Puerto Rico.
Nokia released these devices only in a few markets this year, and should bring them to more countries soon, including the aforementioned ones, and some others more, as it kicks off mass production of these smartphones.
Nokia Lumia 710 Rumors Target US, UK Releases

While the Nokia Lumia 800 has been stealing the spotlight, the manufacturer recently turned its attention to promoting the 710, in anticipation of its wide release. Just when will the phone be available where? The Windows Phone handset had been marked as "coming soon" on Nokia's US site, and while it was initially supposed to have its UK debut in November, those plans have been put on-hold. A couple of new finds may just shed some light on the 710's story.
In the UK, retailer Digital-phone.co.uk has updated its page for the Lumia 710 to show the phone's availability as beginning on January 6. We don't know when the site plans to actually start shipping the phone out to customers, but according to this, it will receive its stocks during that first week of January. So far, no other UK retailers have confirmed a date for the Lumia 710's arrival.
Last we heard, the Lumia 710 may come to the US as the Sword on T-Mobile, again in early 2012. While we don't even have a rumored release date just yet, we may be about to find out. Invitations being distributed for an event to be jointly hosted by T-Mobile and Nokia, set to take place on December 14. There are no specific clues to what might be featured, but we'd be surprised not to learn more about the carrier's plans for the 710. Check back with us in a week to see what's revealed.
looks like Tmobile gets the 710
T-Mobile US Nokia Lumia 710 confirmed by manual at FCC

We still don’t know exactly what Nokia and T-Mobile US is announcing on the 14th, but it seems the Nokia Lumia 710 is very likely, with TMoNews uncovering this picture from the Lumia 710 manual at FCC.
Does this handset excite anyone on the US carrier, who have been denied a number of high-end devices now, such as the HTC Titan, Samsung Focus S and possibly the Nokia Lumia 800 also now.
More pages can be seen at TMoNews here.
not to impressed on the 710, im looking for a high-end device from Nokia on Tmobile or unlocked maybe even ATT
I'm not terribly excited about the 710 coming to the US, but if you're not interested in a FFC it might be a better buy than the Radar 4G. Also, the Radar 4G was the 3rd best selling device at T-Mobile in November, so maybe there is a big market there for value priced devices.
I've kinda veered away from HTC from the many problems and the lack of design that they Implement. I'm going to hold out a little longer to see what else they are going to give us before I upgrade. Can't wait for Apollo

The phone will apparently Nokia’s first LTE device, and the first they will be marketing in USA – sorry Lumia 710.
According to our tipster the hardware is ready to go, and the device is just waiting for the Tango OS. Nokia is pushing for a late-January release, while a mid-March release is more likely.
AT&T is guaranteed the device, but apparently Verizon is also pushing hard to be a launch partner.
The specs is as leaked earlier – 4.3" screen, 8megapixel camera, 16gb storage, Windows Phone Tango OS , 1.4Ghz CPU, LTE support.
