I have an issue with photos taken in dark conditions, they are all messed up, or broken if you will, looking like corrupted JPG. In slightly better light conditions everything is fine. Reboot did not help. It happens now with default camera in sebaastian15's AIO 2.5 but I have also noticed it in AIO 2.2. Is there a way to upgrade/replace stock (sense 3.5) camera? Did anyone experienced such an issue?
I could insert image of screwed up photo but "noobs" like me have no access rights, so to look at it, make up and URL from this "img43.imageshack.us/img43/3977/imag0616d.jpg" or that one "img838.imageshack.us/img838/5885/imag0610g.jpg".
Also do not ask me to ask this question on the ROM thread... again, I am just a dumb "noob" so I cannot comment on super-duper-exclusive dev threads.

same here
the same happened with me too
but on older versions of runnymede and runnymedemod007
mine even used to restart the whole phone
i suggest using market apps like camera 360 or others if you prefer
I was trying to avoid non-sense (hehe) cameras, but I will give it a try to be able to take night picture despite low quality... what I have noticed (but have to prove tonight) is that after I changed preferred ISO to 800 the picture taken is ok, and even when I set it back to "auto" - this sounds like ISO property is not really set and may mess up when pixel brightness computation in low light conditions (just a theorem).
ckpv5, I copied&pasted address to URL bar of web browser and it works for me, maybe you do not have access to imageshack server. When I reach "10 mails level" I will just embed it here.

Yeah.. I guess it is no access as this is what I got http://imageshack.us/img/blocked_login.jpg
Anyway... your workaround on the problem is good.
Night test done... default camera screws up pictures unless you manually set ISO. Re-checking "auto" does not help, but setting 400 or 800 helped me to make couple souvenir pictures.

I don't have steady hands. I noticed that blurred pictures result from my hand moving while pushing the camera button.
In my Canon Camera, there is this feauture that delays for a second or two the actual clicking of the shutter so that actual picture taking will not be simultaneous with my finger pushing the camera button. This results to a better picture for people who dont have steady hands.
What you think guys.
hope this works on your unit. it's a direct application icon so simply copy and paste it on your unit...can be on the program's folder or start up menu, etc. it was made by a chap in this forum a while back; works well with xda2, xda2s, xda2i and the mini. should work for you as well. clicking on the icon will allow you to set a timer for your camera. there's also another app made by the same chap and it allows your unit to take rapid shots. let me know if you want that one as well.
cheers
Can you post the rapid shots file as well? I am interested in that, thanks!
here you go then. ahh, i remember it was "jwhitham" who made this app possible so kudos to him
what you do is you copy this file into whichever folder you want it to be in (e.g. programs, start menu, my documents, etc). you then go to your settings->personal->buttons and select "rapid shot" for button 3 (camera). i do remember making a copy of the app and pasting it in "my documents" to make sure the app can be remapped by the unit for buttons.
if you'll notice the icon is the SAME as the camera timer app so just be careul of which one you're pressing. clicking on the rapid app will allow you to make the settings you want.
exit; go back to your today screen and activate your cam. from there if you hold down on the camera button it'll start clicking away (up to a hundred pics if i remember)...just be careful you set the pics to jpeg format instead of bitmap...otherwise your unit's memory will be all used up!
cheers
oops, made a mistake previous post. clicking on the rapid shot icon will automatically make your cam take a pic; no other settings will come out. it'll be better if you simply paste the icon on your today screen. from there go to settings->personal->buttons and select "rapid shot" for button 3 (camera). exit and from there give it a shot.
cheers
wow these sure are great applications, by the way, would you know any camera enhancement program like this? thanks to the one who developed the applications
so far those are the only camera-related apps i've seen. i did read somewhere in the forum about camera patches or upgrades but they ended with screwing up the camera function. oh there was one somewhere about a webcam app...i previously asked if there was an app which allowed the camera to act as "real time". example; while in activesync you can use remote display to show the ppc screen on your laptop/pc montior. clicking on the camera function only gives you a black / empty field but when taking a picture that appears on the monitor. i was hoping there was an app which allows you to use the cam function sort of like a "security camera" which gives you real time. so far haven't been successful yet.
latest version?
hi robson... i did a search for jwhitham and found this URL: http://www.coderz.co.uk/cameratimer.html. it had a different UI. it had options for loop and delay before the next loop. happen to have that version? tnx!
sorry mate, the 2 files i posted on the web are the only versions i have. when those apps came out (not sure when...ages ago though) jwhithams mentioned that he did want to "clean up the apps" by combining the timer and the rapid shot into one icon into one exe file...but that never came up...not that i'm complaining mind you. so for later versions i'm afraid i never did come across them...maybe we can drop jwhitham a pm and see what happens.
cheers

Camera Timer ... here you go!
Hi after some seeeriuos searching, I found a mirrored copy of the more sofisticated version of the freeware cameratimer (i.e. the one with gui and timeouts)
Once again all tx should go to the developer.
I attach it to my msg.
Enjoy!
Dv3it
These are nice!.. I'll try them out tomorrow..
thanks man!
Hi!
I know that it is not exactly the same topic, but it is related because depends on a similar registry edit, and should enable a new camera mode.
I have an Artemis.
Following the kind of reasoning http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292560
post #7
(I posted a similar comment at the end of that old thread)
I found in my registry that profile 6 (P6) had also the entry
"enabled" set to 0.
I set it to 1... and the panoramic icon appeared in the sequence of modes of the camera.
I has also specific settings like "left to right", "number of stitches"...
Unfortunately I could not make it work. May be it was because I did not know how to operate this mode.
Any one had discovered / tampered with this or had it already activated?
Any ideas on how to make it work?
the recording part works fine work. after taking the 1st picture the display shows a small part of the pic i just took as an "overlay" so i can capture the correct area for the 2nd picture. (hell, i dont even know i would describe that in my native language...)
this way i can take 3 pictures (or whatever i chose in settings). when i have done that, i can see the full panorama for maybe 0.5s before it vanishes and the camera software closes. after that the picture is gone, i cant find it nowhere.
(all this is using B&B v4.0 beta)
Ditto. I get to the last picture and the camera application crashes. Maybe that's why it was disabled. I am using B&B 3.7 BTW.
As I take still pictures, if I save them into a message whether compressed or not they appear as a tetris game board. If I view them in the album, they appear as the picture was taken. I have reset all the defaults on the camera. The only difference is I am saving the pictures to a card, rather than the main memory. I have changed this setting to main memory, and the same occurs.
Any help or direction would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Welcome to forums
Lol!
I´m not laughing of your prob but of your tetris
Try doing a hard reset, instructions in the Wiki
And don´t forget to vote!
Possible to show us a screenshot of this "tetris" phenomenon? More curious than anything...
I think the real question here is how to get our pictures to always appear as tetris!
Here's a sample.
This was a picture of a knife block in the kitchen. I can view this picture as it is supposed to be seen in the album on the phone. However when inserted into a text or E-Mail (This one is from an E-Mail uncompressed) this is how the picture looks.
Thanks,

Are you on a stock ROM? or a cooked one?
Stock ROM.
The only mod has been to the registry regarding the tethering. The camera worked fine after that. Took video for the first time last week, and every since then, the camera has been acting like this for stills. Stock ROM on an AT&T Tilt 2 model.

I think the image/video is too big for the email/message, .. try taking a very small size picture and attach it and see what happens.
if same problem occur i would soft reset if were you, if it did not help, than hard-reset it is
Possible solution.
I had the same problem. I think it might have to do with having removed the delay in the Camera key captures. I had changed these settings in Advanced Config and my pictures started looking like yours.
I went back through Advanced Config and reset the delays to their defaults:
Capture Key Delay: Enabled (default)
Key Delay: Enabled (default)
Capture Key Delay Time: 1500
..and it seemed to fix the problem.
I hadn't changed anything else between the bad shots and the fixed shots, so it may be a solution.
Hope that helps.
Ron.
The HTC Evo front-facing camera will not take an image in standard left-right format. I can see the argument for providing a mirror image to the display when setting up a picture (self-portraits), but the result (the actual picture) should not be mirrored.
If using Skype through Fring to video chat (which is really cool, BTW if just a little choppy) the video feed I'm providing to the other party is again mirrored.
It's clear there is a deliberate manipulation of the images going on here, but I can't make out why they would do that. Is there some fix, upgrade, or setting that will clear the problem?
I have not yet rooted my phone, and honestly I'm new to Android (much more familiar with security unlocking and re-flashing WinMo phones up to this point) so I might need the less-than-expert explanation if that's what's needed. ;-)
Thanks!
Rich
I remember a few people talking about this right after google i/o, I think they found a way to fix it, ill look around a bit to try to find the thread. It could be a setting in the camera settings also..

Looked around, but couldn't find a solution, but a few people think its a software issue, and has to do with qik and fring. Im not sure though.
nvm, i was wrong
Hey,
If you open up picture hub and zoom into a picture you'll see that after about 0,5 sec the pictures gets sharper.
Means MS uses a preview pic with less pixels and plus compression in the standard view to ensure a smooth run time. The main the problem is that the preview picture is such visible blury and compressed, it hurts my eyes everytime I launch picturehub. So I did some research and found some interesting registry entries.
10$ via paypal goes to the first one fixing it.
Regards.
I see what your saying but mine look just fine after zooming in about a second or less on my Focus. If yours is that bad where its hurting your eyes (I know its a figure of speech), I would think there is something wrong with your phone itself. Like I said, the pics on my phone look good even after zooming in.

I guess I didn't pronounced it correctly: If I zoom into pictures, they are fine and sharp. It's just that the fullscreen picture (without zoom) looks blurred. It's not that distracting (mostly you do not notice it) if you do not know the picture well, but due the fact that I am a Designer/Photographer the slight blur at my pictures at no zoom is parasitic.
You just have to prevent the phone from doing compressed cache images.
Regards.

So, you are running the quiz? I mean are you already knew the corresponding registry values?..

mmhh, not really. I found some eventual responsible values, but I am not in the position to do further research. Just search for image or jpeg in a registry editor. There are too many keys to list them all.

Actually, all jpeg processing is done by native (arm) WP7 program called PhotoViewer. I don't think there is an option to change the jpeg loading mode. I'm afraid it's hardcoded in PhotoViewer.

I guess I have to at least try changing the keys.
I'll post if I find something.
So that's the keys I mentioned: (click to enlarge)
