So i bought the galaxy nexus and have bad service and signal loss alot like many others im on rogers in canada i heard that google is making the fix im running 4.0.1 my phone says im up to date when will google release the update
I dont know they dont usually give us that much heads up to let us know when an update is going to be available before it comes out best thing to do is check for update under about phone and if you dont see it it's not yet available or you could always flash one of the ROMs that has been update
hey man, i think you bought a knock off phone, if you have goggle nexus return it and get a Google nexus

Carrier updates are almost ALWAYS (Can anyone even think of one that isn't...?) out of date by at least a few months...Reason being is that the carriers have to test it out among a select few before sending it on to their huge client base (In Rogers case, about 7.1 million wireless customers) They can't be seen to be releasing buggy updates which swamps their outsourced call centres for support, it would cost them too much money ^_^
The Google/Nexus series of phones are meant to "Freed" from that kind of crap imo, that's why if you check the Development sub section you'll see updated ROMS based on the newest 4.0.4 Android source code being patched/updated daily by random developers from all over the world in some cases...
You might run into some odd issues here and there, but if you do your research (And use that search tool!) you'll find that there's a reason this place is so popular
There seem to be two versions in the market, neither compatible with the S3. Though the slightly more expensive version is compatible with my S2.
Is it worth buying that one whilst it is on sale for 69 pence? Or is that one that will never be compatible with the S3?
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk.
MS infiltrator working fine on my S3.
Which version did you get? There seem to be two in the Market
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk.
unless you have a custom ROM which was built from a NON UK source the game will NOT work
This message shows on the app market page:
"This item cannot be installed in your device's country."
It sucks big time. Maybe a custom App DL'd elsewhere. But obviously that's a bit dodgy
Looks like EA list US and rest of world versions. Not yet compatible with the S3. But I have still bought it whilst on sale.
Sure it will get S3 compatibility in time?.
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk.
the game works fine, i finished it couple of days ago its brilliant.
I have a Tab 10.1 and an Acer A510 tied to my Google account. Using the 'rest of the world' version, I still can't buy it with either tablet. A shame really cause it's on sale and I want to give EA my money. I've already played the whole game, but since I got the apk without paying them...anyways seems like EA doesn't want my money.
I can't buy it either! Shame now that it was only 0.69€
I bought it pretending it is for my old S2 but cannot download it as of yet.
Anyone know if there is a market enabler for the S3 we can use?
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk.
I have also bought the game on sale for my Galaxy S II running CM9 and it downloaded fine plus the files also downloaded fine but after that, all i see is a black screen. Anyone else having such a problem?
I sent an E Mail to EA and they were no help.
I bought it for my old phone just 2 weeks before my SGS3 arrive from pre-order. Full price, just to find out this don't work on the new phone.
Now I'm in touch with EA to solve this.
Dead Space have the same problem.
On the other hand, Modern Combat 3, from Gameloft, that I bought on sale, just took me 5 days until them sent me the APK compatible with SGS3.
From the Bioware Community Manager:
"Attention Samsung Galaxy S3 owners: The device will be receiving an update in the next few weeks which will let you play ME: Infiltrator!"
Source.
So, good news
In the next few weeks... come on that cant be...

I managed to get my hands on the MEI APK from the Titanium Backup of my last device and with that I installed MEI and even downloaded the aditional data without any problem.
The game is already compatible with the SGS3, the problem is just to update the compatibility list on the download page.
I just checked the android market and it is now listed as compatible with my device. Might want to give it another look and see if it downloads.
I purchased this game on my Galaxy Note. I can see it there as purchased on my S3 but it says incompatible.
How can I get around this???

Legend. :good:
So I got the game to download it's ~400mb of data and it loads the intro, but just cuts out to the home screen part way through.
I've tried restarts, uninstall, re-install, all the basic stuff.
Any ideas?
I bought it for my sgs2, and sent the apk to my sgs3
Works perfectly

Hi guys - currently have a Desire HD on a 24 month contract that will end at the end of August or so. Thinking of buying a Galaxy Nexus and getting a cheap SIM free contract when my current one ends. Just a couple of questions.
1. Would you suggest the above plan, or waiting until the the contract runs out and getting a new contract with the Nexus included? Thinking about potential upgrade to whatever the next nexus is.
2. How are updates in the UK? Direct from Google or Samsung? Better SIM free or with a carrier?
3. Is it worth flashing ROMs on the Nexus, or fine just sticking with stock? Kind of tired of reinstalling apps all the time etc, would be nice to be able to stick to OTA updates from now on!
Thanks guys
Sent from my Desire HD
1: If you want to save cash long term buying the phone outright and getting a cheap contract is the way to go.
2: Updates are from google
3: Stock ICS/Jellybean is great although lots of benefits with ROMs. The Nexus is designed to be rooted and its really simple to try lots of different ROMs
Nexus is great but has now been overtaken in the hardware stakes by the HTC OneX and SIII. For pure Google Android the Nexus is the way to go though as we will get the updates first.
Get your carrier to offer a good deal
My 24month deal finished as the gnex came out, I said cancel my existing contract i'm going elsewhere (after asking for a quote) .. about 7 days before the date they rang and offered a deal which was cheaper than a buy myself, sim only + data package.. The carrier was Vodafone i squeezed a gnex at £20 per month, free phone,500Mb, 600mins and 6k texts which I thought was good in that, all they would offer me a month before was £36 for 500Mb/300mins/unlimited txts/free phone.
My other thought was to buy a sim free version and go GiffGaff as their sims looked pretty good... as the gnex has dropped quit a bit now it might make a better price option..
Good luck..
PS Gr8 phone... first one that just does everything you need..
The phone is actually pretty awesome, if you can try and buy it outright, i bought mine for £280 new from ebay, flashed the Yakju build on it and it runs awesome, everything is stock and it makes a change coming from the Motorola Milestone and Atrix 4G.
Either way it's on Jelly Bean now just for messing around and checking out the new features, but honestly, buying the phone outright and go APE with GiffGaff internet (i used to tether to my tablet and download Torrents in college lol) it's pretty much the best combo.
Plus you're getting everything from Google pretty much When it's out OTA or from the updates page here.
* Btw im not even sure if GiffGaff has a data limit but if it does then it sure as hell ain't 3GB lol
Thanks for the feedback, could get one for about £260 atm, very tempting to go with the Nexus 7!
Still can't decide whether to stick with stock or use ROMs. Its the data wipe that winds me up (even more so with no external SD for music).

If your worried about losing music when. Wiping for a new ROM, don't panic. A wipe WILL NOT delete anything on the /sdcard directory but unlocking the bootloader will. I would unlock the bootloader anyway as soon as you get it, then whatever you decide in the future, your music and media are safe.
EDIT: Ballsed that quote/reply up

Yeah. A standard wipe of data in CWM will leave everything intact. Last thing you want to do is load your phone up with media then unlock the bootloader as you will lose the lot. I unlocked my bootloader, rooted and made a nandroid of stock within 15 mins of ripping the box open . That way I knew I was prepared for flashing in the future and keeping my data intact.

OK definitely going ahead with the plan now - been poking round the forums and not sure where to start really, looking forward to it though. Will try and flash the build to ensure google updates I guess and sort root, then just play around and wait for the JB update

Normally when I get a new phone I root it and copy over the TB folder and restore my apps. I have some games and a podcast app and I like to keep the progress(in the games) and my podcasts I have downloaded. Since there isn't root yet on the One, is there any way without root to transfer this info?
This guide is a tad bit dated but the methods still function.
http://lifehacker.com/5843206/how-to-upgrade-to-a-new-android-phone-and-take-everything-with-you
In addition I think Avast just released a back up app that ties into the Avast security platform that should also work however I haven't tried it out yet.
Almost forgot the new kid on the block Helium, its from the developer of ROM manger and does not require root. I have heard great things about it but haven't need it yet.

Helium Backup by Koushik Dutta (Koush of CWM fame) works on non rooted devices. It cannot allays restore the application itself (paid apps for example that block the restoration) - but once the app is downloaded from the PlayStore you should be able to restore data. I believe that the paid version even syncs data between devices.

I might look into Helium and get away from Titanium if the phone doesn't have root.
I also have that phone problem, went from Gnex->S3->Note 2->Maxx HD->S3->DNA-> maybe One. In all the other cases there was a root out when I got the phone (even the Maxx HD, had root, BL unlock came later) so I could just move the TB folder around.

haha, i wish. I'm on a 5+ line family plan, but everyone wants their upgrade for their next iPhones. I went Gnex->DNA->S4->One and now probably Moto X since I'm having 4g issues on the one in my area
I'm really sad because I love the camera features of Sense 5 (ie. the highlight video it makes of each day's photos). Anybody know of a 3rd party alternative that makes cool video mock-ups like that?

Bought the Gnex full retail. All the others have been Swappa. With the One I might go back to full retail. Thier 12 month payment plan isn't too bad. I just have a family plan with 1 extra line for the wife. Thought about getting another line to do a dumbphone swap, but I don't have a dumb phone and seems like a hassle to deal with.
hey guys, hope you all are well and enjoying your devices.
I am about to buy a new phone to replace my samsung galaxy note and the mate 20 x 4g is the most attractive device for me right now, i do have quite a few options within the same budget range
the mate 20 x 128gb for 579 euro ( global ) or the 256gb chinese version for 666 euro which isnt so far above the global standard one or the samsung galaxy note 9 128 gb for 620 euro or one plus 7pro for 660 euro for the 256 gigs version.
my wife is currently in germany and i will be asking her to buy it from there since its not available here.
tbh the mate x is the one that makes me wanting to buy a new phone but anything else can wait so there for comes my question, which version of the mate x should i buy and why ?
i will be using the device between egypt and germany . the chinese version seems very appealing for the more ram and storage. i am not an intense gamer by any means and i dont need the 256 as i never have filled my note 64 gigs, the thing to me is more about long term usability and mostly the ram more than the storage and having my phone smooth for my usage .
i dont play games on my phone bc they kinda lag and lag annoys the heck out of me, i use uber most times am on the road and definitely google maps, google search/ now for my searching for whatever and nova launcher as my most loved launcher for years now and always went back to it, gmail as my default email ,social media ofc fb, whatsapp, instagram, twitter, youtube and definitely watching something on the go or viewing pics ( i always have lots of pics on my phone ) , music and for sure photography, rarely shoot videos. i also use swiftkey as my main keyboard with only arabic, english and german on it.
i have my note 5 rooted and debloated from every useless app that i never use or would ever need and it does help keeping my phone somehow fast and light
please if you can state clearly what problems have you ever had with the chinese model ? or what do you like about the chinese model that makes it worth buying ?
are the issues on the chinese version easy to ignore for the sake of more storage and ram and also the ota updates that seems similar ?
were you able to remove chinese bloatware and enjoy a similar experience to global ?
how good is the screen specially its only fhd+ ? and how is smooth is your experience with the 6gb ram ? specially if playing demanding new games .
i usually keep my phone for quite a long period of time, i have my note for 4 years now. I like the mate for the ginarmous 7.2, small bezels, flat screen (no useless side curves ) , am an architect with ocd so symmetry is a big freaking deal, the huge battery, small notch, physical fingerprint reader, somehow manageable price , it fits most of my design elements and also budget , so your answer will really matter, will definitely appreciate more clear direct details, thank you in advance guys and sorry for my long post
I love my EVRL29 version...this is by far the best phone I have used hands down.
I purchased mine from Amazon.com and have the protection of Amazon. I purchased the AL00 first as I had the EVRL29 previously (6 months ago but sold it to get the P30Pro) but I ended up missing my Mate 20X so much I had to sell my P30Pro and get back to my Mate 20X. The AL00 was easy to remove the bloat etc but I couldn’t get all Google to work including some of the Google back ups. I couldn’t get Google Pay to work but actually activating the Google apps was very easy. I had to return the AL00 though as I just didn’t want a fantastic phone that only half worked...maybe not half but you get the picture. I reordered from the Amazon.com dealer and the phone was shipped the following day Thursday and I had it in my hands Friday afternoon. The pick up time was Thurs at 3pm and delivered the next day by noon, from Hong Kong to Victoria, B.C literally overnight. Anyways I also have received 4 updates since I got the phone and I would 100% get the EVRL29 model as everything works including Google Pay, back ups, everything...I love this phone!

i get it, am just intrigued by the more ram and storage which is always good to have, can you use nova launcher ? am not planning to root at all thats aside for the mostly locked bootloader etc and seems on the chinese one cant use nova and gotta stick to huawie, am planning to change the dpi if possible like on my note to get more of the screen etc.
what are the issues you have ran into from the chinese model ? aside from what you mentioned ofcourse
I am pretty sure you can run Nova on it, I seem to recall having it on my old mate 20 x.
The AL00 had issues such as getting the updates I would have to have Hicare set up and set to China as the region then click on updates to 'request' the download then have to go to system updates to see if it actually was there. With the EVR-L29 it just shows up in the updates OTA with no effort. The notifications never fully worked as you wouldn't get the ability to expand the notification, you would just click on it and it would take you to the app for example and you couldn't delete the notification.
Like I said for me anyways, it only ever half worked.

so , am leaning towards the international version now after the research i made , but do you think this phone or worth getting ? i dont have a chance to experience it in person and only seen it in videos ...
have you noticed pixels in the screen ? and what about gaming , can it handle anything ? honestly i have always wanted such a ginormous phone with tiny bezels and nothing on the market comes close specially at this price point but the screen does kinda worry me
Get the China Version. More RAM and Storage. The screen is FANTASTIC. It's one of the best things about the phone. Plus it gets updates way faster. Updates are OTA. U don't need Hi Care. After researching a lot about the differences, am convinced with the Chinese version despite the fact that I don't need the extra storage. My only issue right now is if buying it is the right decision at the moment specially with the huawie ban and I don't know how things will go in the soon future. This is the only phone on the market that makes me feel am getting more than the typical.
Honestly if the phone never got another update. It would still be a keeper. It's that good. I've had this phone almost a year and even loaded with apps and music. It's as fast has the day I got it. No other phone I've owned( Sammy, LG, Google) did that. They all slowed down. Pull the trigger. U won't regret it.

Thanks for this info, though I am 2 months late in seeing this.
I'm also contemplating if were to go for the China version due to the 256GB storage. However after much research on XDA and in fact everywhere on the net, I saw there are several challengers for me to overcome with the china version. A summary of my findings as follows. Appreciate if you have further insight.
China version and Global version bands are exactly the same. This is a plus point.
China version no playstore but can be easily installed. Another plus point.
China version bootloader can be unlock => but no use as huawei stopped providing unlock code since last year(?). Even paid unlock code no longer work or are for sales. While L29 don't even have any function for OEM unlock. Therefore this point is a tie between China vs global.
China version "access to voice match" doesn't work and no solution found on XDA to-date. Its okay for me since voice unlock in not necessary but a good to have. So I'm leaving this as a tie.
china version widevine L3 no HD netflix. Not a showstopper for me as I can just stop watching netflix on mobile and turn to downloading and playing tv series via VLC.
China version does not allow replacing launcher. For me, changing to Nova prime is a must have. And this is a likely show-stopper. Although there are method on XDA to use ADB to uninstall the huawei launcher but along with that the stock full navigation gesture is lost. Got to separately install fluid gesture, full screen gesture, etc. app but those aren't as smooth as original huawei gesture.
China version problem with google pay or adding international visa/mastercard even though NFC is working. Can't find any other info around this if it is really a problem.
China version hivoice and hiboard even though can be uninstall via ADB but needs to be uninstall each time after every update. Further problem - after replacing hivoice with google voice assistance, android will keep asking for default assistance prompt once google voice assistance auto closed. Currently no way to make google voice assistance persistent. Not even pinning in recent menu cause it to stay open.

Oh yes I know the temptation about the storage and ram but man I just love nova even tho after dealing with the stock launcher I would have been fine with it, I also had a note 5 64 gigs that I never used it all so I now have like 70 gigs free on my phone [emoji16].
Also I didn't want to have to go through lots of workaround for somethings specially soon I will move to Germany and want everything to work with no hassle especially banking stuff.
Also if I wanted to get the cn version I would have to get it from China which to me is a risk I do t see no point in taking.
And after seeing the bundle offer on Amazon UK, I was all decided.
So after having the phone, the extra ram and storage would have been useless to me.
