Was anyone able to install google wallet on Galaxy Nexus yet? Preferably in a way that does not require root, wipe, or anything (excuse my terminology if it's incorrect, I'm not very familiar with inner working of the platform).
I'm running plain vanilla GNex, not rooted, and would like to use the wallet. Is there an easy way to install it on my phone?
Thanks guys!
P.S. Does google plan on officially releasing the app to GNex soon?
It's not possible to get this running without either being rooted, or an official release from Google. As far as I know nothing has been announced so far, so I'm afraid your out of luck for the time being.

There's a thread on how to do it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19750674
But it looks like it requires Clockwork and/or root.
Just root the phone and then throw a custom ROM on there. If you need help with this I will be glad to help you.
Just PM me and I can help you.

I'm seeing a lot of different threads regarding root pop up. I just want to know what's the easiest way to do it, while maintaining everything stock. Don't want clockwork or anything to interfere with OTA.
Also, is anyone having any weird issues after rooting? I want to keep this phone as close to the way Google intended as possible. In the past, I use to flash roms about once a day. Want to give that for stability.

Hello everyone,
I currently have an iphone 4s...and I plan on selling it and getting the galaxy nexus for sprint.
Will I be limited in my ability to root, etc since my computer is a Mac? From what I have read today, it doesn't seem like it, but I am just double checking. Thanks!
I have a GSM gnex & a Mac as well. Rooted it perfectly fine. Do you have adb set up?

Works just fine with a mac, just setup adb and fastboot.
No i do not. I would have to do that. Simple enough?
I used to root android phones, before my iphone, with my windows computer...but I mostly used prepacked all-in-one root tools.
Love you galaxy nexus? I was back and forth about it all day (I have a ipad 3 and mac)...but in the end I feel like the galaxy nexus will be the more capable device.
3.5 inch screen is way too small....at least for me.
Yes, it's quite simple. I'm a visual learner, so I youtubed tutorials on it. You'll be good to go in no time.

Not difficult at all. As mentioned by the previous user, you'll find lots of guide videos on YouTube.
And once you'll get hold on using Fastboot... you won't need any application or achieve what you want.
Good luck.
Besides, Nexus phones are easier to root because Google itself lets you unlock the bootloader with Android SDK. No "hack" needed or stuff and warranty won't be voided.

Well, it *does* void your warranty, it's just that you can always re-lock your bootloader and reverse whatever you've done. It's actually *quite hard* to brick the Galaxy Nexus to the point where you'll require a new phone.
OP: Go to this website and download the SDK Tools for Mac and then you'll only need to download the "platform-tools" in the SDK Tools to root, unlock bootloader etc. It's only if you intend to make apps will you be required to download the APIs and other things.
Hard to brick but be careful...
If you use Google Wallet at all, flashing ROMS can bork up the Secure Element that Google Wallet uses. If they get out of sync it's possible to permanently get them out of sync an you'll lose Google Wallet functionality. There are instructions in the forums on how to do it safely.
Hey guys, just got a gnex, and I'm liking it so far. I will root later tonight and I want to start with cm10. Problem is, the op probably isn't very up to date and there are 420 pages of discussion (on tapatalk). Can someone give me a quick run down of what to flash to get me started with cm10 on the gnex? I know I need the ROM and gapps, and maybe another kernel. I can handle those myself. Any other add ons that y'all recommend? Thank you in advance!

Honestly, for now I'd just install one of the available 4.2 ROMs instead. I switched from CM10 to Bigxie's 4.2 ROM and absolutely love it. It's definitely a bit snappier and more solid than CM10 was for me.
The only thing I miss is the DSP manager but really that's the only thing that is worth mentioning at this point. Even the notification toggles are a moot point now since the 2 finger swipe gets you to your quick toggles in 4.2 now anyway.
Thanks, I'll take a look at that ROM. Aldo, in currently stock, but I keep getting an error when trying to download apps. I've cleared market, play services, and frameworks, as well as removing and re adding my Google account. I have even completely wiped data and started over. All these fix the problem at first, but it soon starts happening again. Any way to permanently fix until I root and update? And do the custom ROMs suffer this issue?

If you want the best of every world download Paranoid Android 2.99 when it gets released tonight. You can switch from a phone, tablet, and phablet interface. Not to mention the normal hacks and goodies.

Someone I know has a GNEX stock 4.1 Android and they want me to put CM10.1 on it. Can I install CM10.1 on a stock android gnex without wiping it?
I know i can and that it is possible, but I guess my real question is if it is advisable or if I might run into issues, FCs, etc. from not wiping? I just want to avoid having to backup/restore apps and data....On going between any other ROMs i would wipe, but I'm thinking you may not have to if coming from stock Android...?
no.. ALWAYS do a clean flash when changing android versions and also post questions in the Q&A section
It's probably not advisable to proceed without wiping.
That said, TiBu and Carbon (app by Koush, not the ROM) should get your friend's data back on the phone after rooting it. I haven't used either option, but I wish they were available the first time I ever rooted a few years ago. With TiBu you make a backup through ADB before rooting and then use "Extract from ADB backup" in the app's Menu. And I know Carbon works without root and syncs to the cloud.
Probably not the answer you were looking for, but at least you have options. GL
Thanks for the answers. I am very familiar with backups including Carbon and TiBu, as I do all kinds of crazy stuff on my SCH-i535. I was just hoping I could skip a few steps since it'd be coming from stock android. I've just never had/used a gnex before.
I've had my gnex since it was released. I finally installed 10.1 recently and wish I would have done this a long time ago. Big battery life change and quite a bit faster. Not to mention I don't have top wait for Verizon to take their sweet ass time with software releases. Must clean install though, just back up everything not to difficult or painful.

The backup won't be a problem as I can do all that, but since the phone is for a friend, the biggest problem is they won't like having to redo shortcuts, homescreen, etc.
I'll just have to convince them it will be worth it.
thanks for the input!
Tell them to dl a launcher, then save that in the backup.

Huh... Remember, 4.2.x based roms have a different file tree because of multi user support.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I have stock 4.2.2. By wiping you mean Android only, or every single bit of data?
Odoslané z Galaxy Nexus cez Tapatalk 2
I am new to this type of work, I recently just followed a guide to unlock, root, and install 4.2.2 on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I used the WugFresh? tool and it seemed to go pretty smooth.
However, now my phone will crash several times a day. I get messages that bluetooth has stopped working, or the lockscreen has stopped working, and sometimes it just won't turn the screen on and I need to pull the battery.
Can someone recommend a good ROM that I can push to the device that is tried and tested? I don't know where to find ROMs, how to compare them, or what is best for me. I just want the latest version of stock Android on my almost 2 year old Galaxy Nexus.
I was looking at this page:
[Can't post link as I am a new user...]
and I think I would want the ROM under:
Factory Images "mysid" for Galaxy Nexus "toro" (Verizon CDMA/LTE)
called '4.2.2 (JDQ39)'
I have attached a couple images showing the 'About Phone' so you can see what I currently have.
Thanks in advance,
David
I recommend Shiny ROM. It's pretty much 4.4.2 without any modifications. For me, it's been the most stable of KitKat Roms.
