I have searched all similar Guides and questions. Downloaded the service manual.. but it is still unclear as to whether i can just replace my Cracked and unservicable Touch Digitizer or that it is glued to the lcd and i need to buy a whole unit (LCD and Digitizer) at a higher cost.. I am awaiting the torx screwdrivers otherwise i would have just dismantled this myskef to find out.
thanks in advance for any help
It's the same as the x10 i.e. they're glued. Some people have managed to separate them using a hairdryer or similar to melt the glue, but others haven't... A lot of time and patience required.

I have a new digitizer and lcd. My question is....how do you align them properly before attatching them together before install? Does the housing help align it? I have researched this with no luck, I have Verizon...so i have no choice but to repair myself i'm not paying more than i paid for the tp2 to have it repaired.
Also what width kapton tape do i need, i've seen as narrow as 5mm on ebay?
One more....does the kapton go on the back of the digitizer first to attatch it to the lcd?
Any help on how to do this would be great. The only thing i've seen on it is how to replace, not what to do to attatch them together or how to line them up.
Thanks, Eric
Hello, i had the misfortune to drop my Arc and having removed the factory fitted protector it shattered the glass and became unresponsive to touch commands. I am pretty certain the actual lcd is fine though. I have looked at a replacement digitizer but i am concerned that the LCD will be glued to it which will need a bit more expertise than i have. i have googled and found a video on an x10 dissasembly but even this is vague as to the build of the LCD/Digitizer..
anyone have any experience with this issue or any advice.
thanks in advance
They're glued together. Apparently you can use a hairdryer to melt the glue and separate the components, but needs patience, a steady hand, and a bit of luck...

That is so annoying, i have just bought a digitizer from formymobile . com and i really dont wanna attempt it if they are a whole unit. i got hold of a torx 6 and took it apart as by the service manual that was posted on here but to get the screen off they have a specialist clamp and suction pad contraption..
I could fudge it but i am heavy handed at the best of times..
looks like a 85 pound repair bill from my local repair shop.. Better than buying a new phone i suppose.
many thanks for your advice
hi 1st off sorry if this has been posted, i have had a quick look but could see anywhere.
i dropped my DHD and the screen smashed. i can still use the phone and have been for some months now. i have a screen protector on it or the glass would have fallen out. i am looking at getting it fixed but ive been quoted between £50 - £100. i have looked on ebay and can find a digitizer for £20 and found a video on youtube to follow.
before i buy the digitizer off ebay i just want to be sure that it is the digitizer that is smashed not the lcd but im not sure.
thanks in advance
It's the digitizer.

be very careful , i wouldn't recommend this operation to somebody without experience.
The lcd is glued to the frame and is very hard to remove it, you need a lot of patience, and after that you need to unglue the digitizer form the LCD, another risky operation.
If you succeed probably the bezel that surrounds the LCD will be bent and ugly and the digitizer won't be flush with the housing, you need to reapply glue so it will stick well to the LCD.
Talking from experience....
and btw the quotes your getting are ranged between £50 - £100 because they'll probably just replace the whole LCD+digitizer assembley

Hi everyone. I am in the process of repairing my phone and have a few questions. I have an almost brand new T989. Unfortunately the glass cracked, but it left the lcd and digitizer intact. I was able to successfully remove the glass. This was actually quite easy, contrary to what I was led to believe by some reading I did. I ended up leaving the lcd and digitizer still attached to the front housing during the process, the adhesive bond between the glass and digitizer was not nearly as strong as I would have thought. It came apart readily with only a small amount of heat applied. So, my questions are:
1) Where is the best source for purchasing replacement glass?
2) Is there in fact a need to somehow glue the new glass to the lcd assembly when replacing? I cannot find any replacement adhesive sheet.
3) The phone is gray, or "titanium" in color. I am also unable to find a replacement glass in this color.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Hey,
I cracked my digitizer last week and I am thinking about ordering the LCD/Digitizer combo to repair my nexus 7 2013. Although my LCD is fine I read that trying to separate the digitizer from the lcd is hit or miss.
How hard is it to replace the lcd/digitizer combo? Other than pry tools and screwdrivers do I need anything else like adhesive?
I am ordering the part from wholesale gadget parts inc (cant post the link because im a newb...)
Thanks!!!
Screwdrivers (philips I think), spudger or the plastic tool/guitar pick but use proper tools. You will need a heat gun or hair dryer (or leave in the sun for a bit which can be a tricky part to remove it if I remember correctly and a guide on the net will tell you how to strip them apart to make sure you take the right part off and if that does not work you'll need to apply a double sided adhesive tape to the bezel (just read it).
If you are not confident you can do it properly yourself then I suggest you find somewhere that can do it for you, might be cheaper if you provide the parts too.
