Ok i realize from my research that the stock kernel on the HTC incredible doesn't support wifi tethering in infrastructure mode, only ad-hoc.
I swear i had it working at one point, but now can't seem to get it to work with my ipad "unsupported network" as well as my work computer when at the airports because of an IT security policy put in place.
Lastly I also installed the latest skyraider rom without the leaked radio (2.x)
Questoins:
1. What kernel can i use to get wifi tethering working in "infrastructure mode"?
2. I thought the skyraider rom would do this?
3. Are kernel and Radio the same thing?
Thanks,
ej_424
1. It doesn't matter, download the 2.0.5-pre7 or higher release at http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
2. The ability to tether is not ROM-dependent
3. No
Seems to be working thanks. I went there before, and had the latest release with no luck. Is there a way to tell on the tether app if its in infrastructure mode vs ad-hoc?
thanks again,
ej_424
I recently rooted my Incredible and put the most recent stable version of Cyanogen mod on it. I've been trying to get my wireless tethering to work on my desktop PC but haven't been able too. I'm not sure what settings I am messing up and on which end.
I am currently running an intel PC with Windows 7 64-bit. I went into my device manager and enabled ad-hoc connections on my wireless adapter but still no luck.
Any ideas?
Android Version: 2.2
Kernel Version: 2.6.32-ga81a44f
Mod Version CyanogenMod-6.0.2
I use the wifi tether from here: code[dot]google[dot]com/p/android-wifi-tether/
It says it's for 2.1 but it works fine in 2.2. FWIW, I'm running stock 2.2 rooted with unrevoked3.
It also creates an infrastructure network rather than an ad-hoc network, so you can connect with more devices, such as other android phones.
I have searched XDA and SDX to no avail. I seem to have opposite problem of everyone else in that Wireless Tether (2.0.5-pre8) will only work on 4G, and not 3G. When I try to connect over 3G, the network appears on my PC and I’ll get notification that network is connected, but it doesn’t actually connect to the internet. After a few seconds an error will pop up over PC network icon reading “No Internet Access.” Tether works flawlessly over 4G however.
This is my current setup:
Latest Build: 3.30.651.3 rooted odexed
Kernel: [email protected] 18-2 #17
Latest Radio, WIMAX, PRL,PRI
I have tried almost all of the different versions of Wireless Tether with the same results. And I know WT used to work over 3G, but I have flashed so many different ROMS/kernels I don’t remember which setup allowed this.
Native Hotspot app shows 67 registration failure over both 3G and 4G
have you tried the pre13 release? pre8 is old
wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre13.apk,
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre13.apk&can=2&q=Evo
Yeah, that's one of the versions I already tried w/same results. I suspect problem lies not in tethering app, but somewhere in my phone.
when your computer is connected and showing no internet access does your phone have access at that time?
are you using juice defender?

Try Calkulin's USB tether fix. You can look it up here http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...ghlight=Calkulin's+USB+tether+fix#post8795414
post #356 or download it here
http://www.mediafire.com/file/4y1l9c6ydg7027r/Calkulin's_EVO_2.2_USB_Tethering_Fix.zip
I do run Juice Defender, but have disabled it with same result. As far as phone still having connection while PC does not, I haven't checked that part yet. I'll check that tonight after work.
I thought Calkulins Tether fix was for deodexed ROMs only? That was going to be my next step, d/ling deodexed version of my existing ROM and applying this fix.
Is it possible latest HTC kernel is culprit? And this raises another question: I thought a modified kernel (with ip and binary files?) was necessary to run WT? How is it I'm able to tether through 4G on supposedly stock HTC kernel?
Here is link to current build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836728
I just checked, and phone does still have 3G connection while PC does not,i.e., I can surf the net on native phone browser while PC cannot. It just shows "limited access" above PC wireless connection icon.
Thought I had it fixed; I was wrong.
You don't have user access control on blocking your pc?
Try the deodexed version wifi and then usb tether.
Have you tried custom roms or are purposely staying with 3.30.651.3 builds?
NOW I fixed it:
Restored Nandroid backup of earlier odexed 3.29.651.5 build with [email protected] #10 and WT works as it should on both 3G and 4G.
Hopefullly this thread will help anyone else experiencing similar with latest build and kernel.
Thanks to all who responded!
I have been having the exact same problems, so now im currently trying to find the 3.29.651.5 build with [email protected] #10 since i didn't do a backup.
It seems to be a problem with the stock 3.30.651.3 build.
(~-_-)~
I think this is the one I originally used
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819838
Disregard Earlier This is the One
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699847
This ROM incorporates the latest Software version 3.29.651.5 with some developer applications (root, busybox and flash_image).
Updated kernel to 2.6.32-15-g0f673ed ([email protected] #10)
FWIW, I am using Wireless Tether 2.0.5-pre8 and am getting d/l speeds of 4-5 mb/s and u/l speeds of 1-1.2 mb/s over 4G on my PC, so I see no need to try a later version of WT.
YMMV, but if it works this well, why f**k with it?
But see my related post

I haven't been in area w/o 4G since latest tweaks, so I don't know if above will still break my 4G connectivity as described in above post. Just be sure to have a Nandroid b/u through Amon Ra 1.8 so you can restore your 4G if above breaks it.
Epic 4g - running Froyo EC05 + SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1.1 (Hajime-taisho) by ACS.
I absent mindedly turned on my Wireless Tether while my 4G was on, Now when I try to turn on my wireless tether the error log says:
Enabling NAT rules...failed
Access Control...failed
And I dont see my SSID on my available wireless networks and cannot connect to wireless tether from my computer.
I flashed & restored from a back up I made in clockwork before this happened, but it is still coming up with errors. I tried using a different tethering app, also failed.
It probably has something to do with this:
POST 5 (click here)
Yes, I did read this before, but I completely forgot today and now I cant get it to work.
Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks.
I just got my Galaxy S2 SPH-D710. I rooted it with ODIN and the downloaded Rooted Stock Firmware. It is now 4.1.2.
I have been trying to get WiFi tether to work. I have tried the following with no luck;
1-Click WiFi tether
PDA net (FoxFi) - would get ip address from phone but no data connection to internet
and WiFi tether for root users - could not get a ip address from phone. Maybe I am using the wrong Device-Profile. (Itried a bunch of them)
What am I missing?
Thanks
Bill

I used WifiTether_TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012 as it was the latest build I could find. http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390195663897100312
Worked right out of box. No configuring needed. Now to do some testing with it.
