Use rootexplorer or a similar file manager to place the .apk in the correct folder - probably system/app. Make sure the permissions are set to rw-r--r--. Reboot.

I think I should use Yaffs Explorer as its free.
Root Explorer is not free right?

Can anyone tell me what is the "i-pocket detection"?

in pocket detection is a proximity sensor that will detect that the phone is in pocket and then turn off the display and lock the phone. It works if the phone is put on the vertical position inside the phone. Hence it uses the gravity sensor and the proximity sensors to do that job.
But I am unable to install it in CM 7.1.0.
Does any one know how to install it ?
I tried to change chmod 644 for that in the apps folder still no luck
tries the appinstaller to install, but still no luck. It says application not installed.

Apps in /system/app dont show up nor do widgets

so i removed friendstream.apk because of forcecloses and htcfacebook for sense i got the apks from a stock rom and used root explorer to mount and paste the files into the /system/app folder so theyre there, but i dont see the apps or widgets but when i try to install them using the app manager on android it says its already installed, any ideas? thanks!
im using damage control 3.2.3 with a custom kernel for damage control 3.7.1, thanks!
Leave them on your sd card and then try installing them using your file explorer.

when pusing them to /system/app with root explorer you have to change the permissions of each app you copy over (hold select the app and choose change permissions) i just check off all of the permissions thingys
when pushing through adb it does that automatically
hope that helps
the default ones are all can read and user can write plus read
Thread moved to Q&A.
yea i checked all the permissions and used adb before and still not showing up, lol really frustrating
any ideas guys, really miss friendstream lol
An easy way to fix permissions is through ROM manager.
Download it in the market and select fix apk permissions.
That might do the trick..
Don't forget to reboot.
yea tried that doesnt work, really weird
Very strange, did you try an adb install? Rather than push..

[Q] How to get Live wallpapers working?

I have installed livewallpaper.apk but the livewallpaperpicker.apk gives an "Application not installed" error.
How to get em working?
P.S I am using Scoot's Cyanogen Mod 6.1
I don't think you can install it. It must be in the /system partition. IIRC
I'm not sure myself but how about put the apk into an androidupdate.tar inside the /system/app folder, and then apply it to your phone. You can create .tar using 7zip
or, maybe you have a bad file.. have you tried another livewallpaperpicker.apk from different source?

Is it even worth it to place live wallpapers on the screen? I assume that they must use some CPU power so you will probably experience general device slowdowns.

ok what I did,
1. Installed livewallpaper.apk
2. Installed Root Explorer
3. Copied livewallpaperspicker.apk to system/app directory using Root explorer
4. Installed my most favorite Live wallpaper
5. Rebooted
6. No option to chose livewallpaper in home utility menu
I even installed extra libraries I found out from a Galaxy Spica thread, still no luck.
Right now on Not So Super Froyo. Lets see if it works (I dont think so btw)
Edit: not working on NSS as well. Need that Menu enabled. Anyone can help?
I have gotten Live Wallpapers working on my device but I would generally not advise doing so..
Reason for it is there is an extreme slowdown on the device because the cpu is constantly at or near 100%. Also got a lot of FCs due to high memory usage of LWs.
Even tried overclocking CPU to 528MHz and had little to no effect.

yeah, they create quite a drag on this hardware, even so, the wow effect lasts only for few days, after that it's just boring

[Q] Installing MIUI camera in CM7

I have the MIUI camera installed functionally in CM7 but not in what seems like a very "clean" way. Why did it work one way but not another? Is there is a better, cleaner way to do it? Maybe using ADB?
I first tried placing the apk in the /system/app folder and installing with "root explorer" and it didn't work. Then I placed the apk in the backup folder on my sd card for "root manager" and restored it with "root manager" and it works.
This is a cut and paste from alogcat when trying to install with root explorer:
W/PackageParser( 196): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123)
W/PackageParser( 196): at android.os.HandlerThread.run(HandlerThread.java:60)
E/PackageParser( 196): Package com.miui.camera has no certificates at entry classes.dex; ignoring!
What does that mean?
Actually scratch that... I had MIUI camera installed in cm7 rc4 using root manager. In the stable/official cm7 release that trick isn't working boo. Really like that camera!
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
you need to rename the apk to 'Camera.apk' then place it in the /system/app folder then change the permissions of the apk once it has been replaced...just press and hold Camera.apk and hit the permissions option in the list..then make sure "read" is checked for user, group and other....should work then...i like the MIUI camera better too,,,hope this helps
I agree, rename to Camera.apk and place in system/app folder. I can confirm working as I just flashed to CM7 a couple of days ago, and also like the MIUI camera app better. It is working fine over here!
Does anyone have a download link to the miui camera? I searched and googled without success.

I don't have a link to post it, but I just opened my MIUI zip and extracted it from system/app
I was trying to do this also... smh I'm gonna try again in the near future
Is there somewhere I can read up on the MIUI camera? I bought this phone for the enormous camera and was sorely dissapointed with it's implementation in CM6. It failed me big time during a day at the zoo...so I am back to sense right now.

Thanks guys for the help! I tried doing as you suggested but it still did not work that way either. Looking at alogcat I see the same error.
However, I just got my new class 10 sd card and so I did a fresh install of CM7 and I was able to rename the MIUI camera apk to just camera and use "root manager" restore to install it and it works!
(In dalvik cache I found the directory classes.dex and in it was a ton of files/certificates. I installed MIUI then coppied the certificate from the dalvik cache, then installed CM7 and pasted the certificate from MIUI in there but I still got the same error in alogcat. It seemed like a good fix theoretically. I'd like to understand why things work like they do if anyone has any explanation I'd like to hear it.
If not I'll just be happy it works!)

any idea if we could remove compression or enable settings in a menu like stated in the custom rom below?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834439
miui is compressing the pictures pretty heavily it seems.
I followed the above instructions for installing the camera, but now no camera shows up in the app drawer at all. I can see it was replaced in the /system/app folder. but I cannot find it with my other apps. Anybody know hoe to fix this?

[Q] How to recovery the original Text Messaging app?

I have just installed the Pays-ROM Defy v6.0 Froyo with Ginger feeling in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943258.
I don't want to use the mms.apk(I cann't remember its name accurately) and delete it, but now I donn't have a text messaging app. So could you please tell me how to recovery it?
Thanks a lot!
BTW, I cann't find a file manager in the ROM.
if you deleted it, youll have to get it from someone else, or you could do a nandroid backup, re install pays ROM and copy the app to your memory card using root explorer or similar, then restore your old backup and install the apk from your memory card

I have got the app folder from CG39.smg, but I don't know which app is for the Text Messagings.
I tried copy Conversations.apk and Conversations.odex to "SystemAppBackup" folder (I have SystemApp Remover installed), and then used SystemApp Remover' recovery function but it didn't work.
Try with Messaging.apk and Messaging.odex. (you can copy those files in your /system/app folder also using adb if you have Android SDK installed on your computer)
Currently I am at work and I don't have the usb cable with me, but when I'll get home I'll send you those files (if you don't get them by then)
Im pretty sure the app needed for sending sms' and settings is something like mms.apk, ill have a look in my system folder for ya
EDIT: yeah im pretty sure its mms.apk, id post mine up for you, but im on cyanogen so itd be a different app.

I tried in this way but the yaffs explorer I used cann't access the root under the Pays-ROM Defy v6.0, which works well under other stock rom. And before I found Root Explorer I have flashed another stock rom because I couldn't wait to stay with a rom cann't send and receive text message. Maybe the mms.apk is also OK.
Sorry for my poor English.

[Q] help needed modifying Rosie.APK for Landscape support

I really like Sense but i hate the fact that it doesn't support Landscape mode. Today i found this thread and i managed to decompile the Rosie.apk with APK manager
I found the code what needs to be changed and changed it in Notepad++ following the turorial. Then i recompiled it again with APK manager without signing it and pushed the newly created Rosie.apk on my phone with Root Explorer to System/Apps(did the R/W remount offcourse)
BUT! when i restarted the phone it is stuck at bootanimation for about 10 minutes. Then i got my "homescreen". however it was a black screen with the notification bar...
Now my question. Could someone try to follow that tutorial and make a Rosie.apk wat won't give a black homescreen.
The notification bar was turned over in landscape mode by sensor!!
So could someone give me a working Rosie.APK or explain me what i did wrong and the method to fix it...
I would appreciated! + it will be awesome to have landscape in froyo sense
help..... anybody!?
Try using adb/apk manager to push it back to your phone.
Root explorer always gives me problems pushing files to /system, I don't quite understand the whole permissions thing yet but did you change them?
I'm on cm7 though so can't try to do it for you without reflashing.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
thank you! i did'nt try by adb push and ik think if i find the time tomorrow i will try this. could it be that it is a recompile issue?
I used root explorer to push my systemui.apk and framework-Res.apk to my system folder last night and managed to get it to work first time, the way I did it was like this:-
My new file was named newsystemui.apk which let me copy it into the same folder as systemui.apk without overwriting the original.
Then check the permissions on the original file, rename the new one to the same as the original (which should vanish at this point leaving the new one) change the permissions to what they should be and reboot. Same method with the framework, if that doesn't work then it must be something you've edited. Did you save a copy of the original? If not I presume you would be able to extract one from a sense rom or an ruu.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
I dont really get wat you mean. Where did you find the systemui and framework.apk or do you have another launcher? or also sense?
can you please be a bit more specific? thanks for the help though!
Sorry I was just using that as an example as there the files I was playing with last night. In your case it would be Rosie.apk instead of systemui.apk. I'm on cm7 nightlies btw.
Rename your new file to something other than Rosie.apk, then copy with root explorer into whichever folder Rosie.apk is in.
Rename it back to Rosie.apk and then change the permissions.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
aaaaaaaaah in that way...
lets try...
You get me now, I think apk manager should've renamed it on compiling anyway to unsignedrosie.apk
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
unfortanatly that didn't work
I had Adw launcher installed so i dont have the blackscreen anymore. But everytime i try to copy and paste Rosie.apk tot system app wit R/W remount, using root explorer Rosie shutsdown and ADW takes over the homescreen.
So, i installed home switcher for froyo to see if Rosie is seen as a homelauncher but it doesn't
in short, after i changed Rosie.apk Sense won't recognize Rosie.apk as a launcher.
Could this be my problem? and how can i fix it? Do i need to sign it and how can i do that?
I used the following code:
adb pull /system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk
adb pull /system/app/Rosie.apk
apktool if com.htc.resources.apk
apktool d Rosie.apk
-- edited Androidmanifest.xml (nosensor replaced by sensor)
apktool build Rosie
Put Rosie.apk from the Dist-folder on my sd card
Copy and paste it to System/app with R/W on using root explorer
Sorry mate, only other thing I can think of is to push it back with adb/apk manager see if that works, try signing it see if that works, play around a bit. I'm not too sure now as I haven't used sense for a while.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
thank you! i already tried to push with adb and apkmanager, no luck either. The only thing i can do within my knowledge is signing after i figured out how...
thanks!
Maybe somebody else can help me?
Landcape Rosie doesn't work for Sense 1.0. It was developed for 2.1+ with the release of the Evo Shift 4G. The Thunderbolt is also Sense 2.1. If you want landscape rosie, I would suggest using a sense 2.1/3.0 rom. If your device has none, I would suggest asking a developer for porting help. I might be able to port it, but I don't have very much experience porting...
Thanks.. soon we will have sense 2.1 with gb 2,3,3. User vigidroid and nrk1983 is fixing this.. (senseonfire) as an extra feature vigidroid will try landscape support. Perhaps you can helo them for some fixes?
