I have installed livewallpaper.apk but the livewallpaperpicker.apk gives an "Application not installed" error.
How to get em working?
P.S I am using Scoot's Cyanogen Mod 6.1
I don't think you can install it. It must be in the /system partition. IIRC
I'm not sure myself but how about put the apk into an androidupdate.tar inside the /system/app folder, and then apply it to your phone. You can create .tar using 7zip
or, maybe you have a bad file.. have you tried another livewallpaperpicker.apk from different source?

Is it even worth it to place live wallpapers on the screen? I assume that they must use some CPU power so you will probably experience general device slowdowns.

ok what I did,
1. Installed livewallpaper.apk
2. Installed Root Explorer
3. Copied livewallpaperspicker.apk to system/app directory using Root explorer
4. Installed my most favorite Live wallpaper
5. Rebooted
6. No option to chose livewallpaper in home utility menu
I even installed extra libraries I found out from a Galaxy Spica thread, still no luck.
Right now on Not So Super Froyo. Lets see if it works (I dont think so btw)
Edit: not working on NSS as well. Need that Menu enabled. Anyone can help?
I have gotten Live Wallpapers working on my device but I would generally not advise doing so..
Reason for it is there is an extreme slowdown on the device because the cpu is constantly at or near 100%. Also got a lot of FCs due to high memory usage of LWs.
Even tried overclocking CPU to 528MHz and had little to no effect.

yeah, they create quite a drag on this hardware, even so, the wow effect lasts only for few days, after that it's just boring

if i edit my build.prop with astro, on a reboot the changes are lost, the file is marked r-w, so something altering it on bootup, anybody know where the source comes from??
Download Root Explorer and use that. Trust.
tried that, it keeps getting overwritten with some king of backup.

If that's the case, then it's a problem specific to the ROM. I haven't tried it on my TP2 but it worked flawlessly on my G1.
Lemme take a look once I get a second.
why cant i find the directory /system/ ?!?! i cant find the build.prop from within windows or winmo?!

Because it does not excist in winmo. It only excists in android.
I tried Root Explorer and it workers . I use latest froyo build with lower incall volume kernel .
Can somebody tell me when I delete apps in system/apps folder I delete from data.img or from system.ext2 ?
Same here, I change my build.prop file or replace it and it gets overwritten.
Using the build.prop for protected apps but can't get it to stay.
I am using the latest BLAZEN build from PPCGEEKS/Reefer.
Being an Ext2 file instead of sqsh I figure this would have worked flawless.
I'd really like to download logmein, gbahours, paypal and a few other protected apps. I can't without fixing this build.prop file....

Find some way to get a working fingerprint Google has already approved.
Glad to see I'm not the only one looking into this I have the same problem in my android OS - different phone, but same custom OS. Hopefully this thread won't die - if I ever figure it out I'll be sure to post here as well
not really sure which forum to post this in (sorry if this is the wrong one), but all of the new roms that have been created seem to lack the xt9. i had really started to like it. i downlaoded the system dump and was wondering, if i copied the T9DB folder (from the dump) over to the system folder of whatever rom im going to flash, would that fix the problem.
Melvin's ROM: Beast MOD II has it. I'm pretty sure this is more a general question though. Also pretty sure copying and pasting is a no go.

the xt9 option is in all of them under keyboard, but doesnt work. open up sms and try to type something.
i just checked :\
You also need the lib, libXt9core.so. Melvin probably removed it. You should be able to drop that and the apk in their right places and it should work.

its very simple. first i downloaded this system dump. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300682 . then opened it up and dragged the folder T9DB over to my desktop. then plugged my phone in the computer and connect to usb storage. dragged the file over to my external sd card and unplugged my phone. then open up root explorer (or some file explorer that allows root access) and copied the file and navigated your main folder (just titled /) scrolled down to find system and pasted the folder in there. restart and it works
the lib is also required for it to work but that wasnt removed witht he rom im using. if you want to check to see if its still there go to the lib folder located within your system folder and scroll all the way to the bottom and their should be a file called libxt9core.so
i tried to go into as much detail as possible to make it as simple as possible for you :]
This is one of the few features of the SGH-T989 which I truly despise. I LOVED the auto-correct on the Nexus S, but XT9 frustrates me terribly because a) it assumes English and I do not always type in English and b) it will drop entire words into my sentences if I hit space or something, ending in some REALLY weird messages!! I turned it off, because it was taking me a lot longer trying to go back and edit my messages ex-post-facto than just make a spelling error here or there.
do you know where i can get the lib file at? im using bombaridier and it doesnt have it in the lib file.

Use rootexplorer or a similar file manager to place the .apk in the correct folder - probably system/app. Make sure the permissions are set to rw-r--r--. Reboot.
I think I should use Yaffs Explorer as its free.
Root Explorer is not free right?
Can anyone tell me what is the "i-pocket detection"?
in pocket detection is a proximity sensor that will detect that the phone is in pocket and then turn off the display and lock the phone. It works if the phone is put on the vertical position inside the phone. Hence it uses the gravity sensor and the proximity sensors to do that job.
But I am unable to install it in CM 7.1.0.
Does any one know how to install it ?
I tried to change chmod 644 for that in the apps folder still no luck
tries the appinstaller to install, but still no luck. It says application not installed.
Howdy folks -
I started with the modified-to-be-expandable PopupBrowser.apk found here and added/modded it a bit further. I reset a number of the layout dimension xml stuffs back to stock UVALL4/UVALK8 values, edited some smali stuff so the expanding states "fit" a little better (so minimized doesn't cut off the title bar, mid-size state is about the same as the size when you first open the popup browser, and large-size state fills up a bit more of the screen), and set it up so that when wanting to "popout" the content in the popup browser into a "full" browser it will look for Chrome first - if Chrome isn't installed, it'll point to the stock (given similarity of package names this should be either stock TW or AOSP) browser. FWIW I originally put this together for inclusion in a rom I put together... just putting that out there
Anyhoo - here it is
md5: DBAB8033D6041B39D664F0A1F175DB02
Let me know if there are any problems
NOTE: If odexed the zip should move /system/app/PopupBrowser.odex to /system/app/PopupBrowser.odex.bak
This looks great! Can't wait to give it a try!
I keep getting application not installed. I used to have an error saying a file name as such already exists.
After deleting popupbrowser using tbup, it now gives me application not installed.
Any suggestions or easy guides?

I'm confused - when does it say application not installed? What are the errors exactly (the wording I mean)? After you deleted PopupBrowser.apk from /system/app did you reflash the zip from the OP? A possible issue could have been the popup browser already installed was slightly different in its name (if this was true it was likely a case issue) - what are you running? I can edit the updater-script to remove other similar-but-different-casing apks if this is what was going on.

I dl'ed the app straight from chrome browser on my phone. I opened it up using ES Zip viewer and it gives me two folders - Meta inf and system.
I open system folder and find popupbroswer.apk and click on it which brings me to the install page, once I click install it tells me "Application not installed"
Am I supposed to do anything else with the stuff that is in meta inf? I'd consider myself amateur with this stuff so bear with me, sorry!
Not sure what "casing" is but I'm stock rooted using Exynos Abuse on UVALK8. Hope that helps

Ah - I see. The zip is in a format so you can flash it in a custom recovery (CWM, TWRP, etc.). The apk itself cannot be installed via the package manager route (which is why you were having the problem), if you aren't going to use a recovery then you need to push/copy the apk itself into /system/app. Basically you need to set /system/app/ as rw so you can copy stuff into it, copy the apk into it, and (for good measure) set the permissions on PopupBrowser.apk to rw-r--r-- (or 644 if you use a terminal or something similar). Then you should be good to go. It's totally up to you on how you want to go about it. Lemme know (whether in this thread or via PM) if you have any questions.
I don't think this interested many, but I updated the OP - it should work for odexed folks now as well

I just found it and spent a while looking at pop-up browser options. It's awesome man...smaller title bar, shrinkable to view more of the background app.
I did have issues resizing it (bottom right corner of the pop-up window). It doesn't seem to allow me to resize. I can press the "expand" button or whatever it is in the title bar which will enlarge the window but only vertically.
I have the DPI of my phone set to 220 so maybe that's it?

Resizing in that sense is not supported unfortunately - it's just the ability for 3 stages of "height" more or less.

Here ya go.
Hi.. I've currently got my DHD rooted and running an Oxylite ROM, no problems with that it works beautifully, and i also have ROM toolbox pro installed to give me a bit more management and tweaks.. Now i'm new to bootanimations and have had a bit of a read before trying anything and it seems very straightforward to install, however, when i try to, it never works even though i'm following all the steps.
Now when i load one of the pre-installed boot animations within the toolbox pro, it works perfectly everytime.. However, when i try and install one of my own i have no luck at all..
So far i've made sure i do the following, is there anything i'm missing??
I make sure the folder is changed to R/W, i then put the bootanimation.zip file into the Data/Local directory, i know some say System/Media, but not mine because this is where the toolbox pro ones go, i've checked.. I've also tried installing into System/Media too, no joy there either..
Now when i delete the previous bootanimation (the one from toolbox pro) i've noticed it leaves a tmp directory behind as i'm only deleting the zip file, do i need to delete that too? Is it storing previous information and causing a conflict perhaps??
What could i be doing wrong if this isn't the case??

That IS how i've been doing it!! It still wont let me, it gives me some waffle about ROM toolbox not being able to open it and needing to open Clockwordmod in recovery.. Which i then do and it still won't acknowledge the zip.. Keeps throwing up installation aborted..
