Yeah, don't go out of your way to get it. I'm on the Virtuous Affinity ROM, and it has Beats. Just an equalizer tweak and maybe some noise reduction and speaker emulation. Mostly just marketing baloney.
If on a Honeycomb ROM, try Volume+, can be configured (unlike Beats), and installs simply as an APK. Paid app on the Market, or get it free from the developer's website:

Yup what he said!! DSP actually works a lot better than beats
what's your DSP settings like? do you adjust it while you listen to something and stop where it feels good/right?
Bass boost and compression on moderate
EQ set in a U shape.
Sounds quite nice actually.
Yeah beats audio it's not the last coke in the desert. The preset using beats audio sounds mehh. Keep messing with dsp instead, sounds by far better imho!
Tmo g2 flavored with cm7 7.1 stable and Tiamat kernel combo for my butterly experience
Beats audio enhancement is just a preset renamed as beats. Hi marketing lol! Its just like srs and dolby. Raised the bass slightly higher and renamed. And lastly it need the htc music's framework I think so you need sense UI. Not sure though
Dsp is far better or use equalizer app or poweramp

I do not believe the type of stupidity Beats Audio. They are like any other handset. Everything is just a marketing tool. But certainly not such as headphones from food shop for € 2.
I agree. even the fake beats that costs around $2.99 are better than the legit ones.

Screw the glam earbuds.
I'm down for only audiophilic earbuds from Klipsch or Bose of Seinnheiser.
I don't care if the earbuds look like crap, and other people judge me. What do I care about the opinions of people who spend $300 on beats headphones?
As long as it sounds good, then it's good.
EQ adjustments and other enhancements are designed to compensate for the quality of speakers. Buy good speakers/headphones and your ears will be happy. beats audio are crap all the way around. Beats are designed to attempt to sound good with limited power. ie from a cellphone or mp3 player.
klipsch is a step in a right direction. Bose is of course good. But i will say Shure is the best. IMHO. The problem is people attach headphones to a cellphone or mp3 player and expect them to perform as if they were attached to an amplified receiver. These devices plain and simple dont have alot of power. Skull Candy Inkd is a nice cheap headset. but for best sound think about this:
http://www.amazon.com/Upbeat-Audio-T613-BNC-Boostaroo-Application/dp/tech-data/B000EIWCFE
Runs on two AA batteries. Yeah its more **** to carry around but if you want good sound then you have to do what you have to do.
boostaroo and http://www.amazon.com/Shure-E2c-Sou...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1326096216&sr=1-1 and i can listen to music all day long without ear fatigue and i can't hear the forklift i'm sitting on at all nor can i hear the lawn mower i'm walking behind.
pay more for good sound and good fitment or pay less for less sound and sub par fitment.

Bose audiophilic? Ha, that's funny!
Try overpriced, cheap construction, and only popular due to marketing.
You know why you see so many people on airplane flights with Bose headphones? Because Delta gives them to their Platinum frequent fliers for free!

Amen, brother.
Bass boost sounds good to people who don't know anything about sound. Aside from the big bass drum, or symphony music, most forms of music doesn't have any instruments that fall into the real bass category, anyway. Its usually just low mids. So boosting bass just muddies up the sound.
The true offense is cramming a one-size-fits-all EQ curve down the throats of the public with marketing and a cool name/logo, and claiming it makes all forms of music sound better on all speakers and headphones. You're much better off tweaking the EQ manually, to your preference, with something like DSP Manager or Volume+. But that would require people thinking for themselves. And most people don't like to do that.
Beats sounds horrible. I won't claim to be an audiophile or anything close. But I know marketing crap when I hear it.
Being a serious audiophile, I don't really use much headphones on my phone as its not that good of a music player and can't drive those headphones I normally use so I just a Meelectronic M9 for like 10$ on amazon or a Samson SR850(Superlux 668b is identical). Both are cheap and are much better than beats. If you want to pay more, get Audio Technica AD700 or Beyerdynamics.

I wouldn't say I'm a complete audiophile, but I'm quite experienced with enthusiast-level music quality and I can assure you that anything associated with beats is only for marketing. The whole thing about making your music sound "like the artist intended" is just bull. The whole thing about beats is that they, on hardware level, tune the drivers to output way too overpowering bass, the mids and highs however sound muddy and low quality. The beats audio thing is basically a software equalizer preset that increases the bass, this isn't necessarily bad, but your stuck with their own preset which, especially on songs that aren't very bass heavy, does the opposite of the statement of making the music sound "like the artist intended".
I agree with previous comments, DSP manager is WAY better AND it lets you customize the sound for your liking rather than relying on an over-marketed brand to provide the best all-around preset.
I can also strongly recommend the PowerAMP music player app.

I know right, one thing I still have a hard time understanding is that Apple still bundle any better earbuds with either the iPods or iPhones, given the price of at least the phones and their standards for quality on everything else. Honestly I've heard those leak the sound nearly louder than the actual listener hears it across rather big rooms.
Myself I've, despite the lack of hardware to really make a big difference on my phone, I've abandoned MP3 to instead update (nearly) my entire digital music collection with CD rips in the flac format.
But well, here in Sweden where I live, it seems like it's rare to find someone that actually knows what good music sounds like

Because most people just swallow what is shoved down their throats by marketers. Just give some feature a fancy name, and even better a logo and celebrity (or former celebrity, really) to back it, and people will flock to it.
I was shocked (and a bit disgusted) to find out that Beats headphones constitute 2/3 of the headphones market. Despite the fact that most reviews done by serious, experienced sources conclude that they are vastly overpriced, and far inferior in sound quality to most all the competition.

its nice that that you think the dr dre sound good, but im dead serious, take a pair of dr dre beats listen to them then plug in the denon d2000,s i listed, i will bet you a 100 bucks after hearing the denons you will blow up the dr dre beats out in the back yard with a M80 firecracker.......
The op never mentioned which pair they have, the entire line is called beats by dre. There's the over the head pro's and studio's, the in-ear tours, the diddy's, the gaga's, the bieber beats.
You kinda need to tell us which ones you received in order to make a proper suggestion.
I like nice high quality headphones myself, but our local audiophile here seems set on getting you to buy a giant set of expensive headphones that might not fit your needs. the captivate and all other SGS models have a very capable Wolfson WM8994 codec with excellent output capabilities. in fact, that's the reason that supercurio is working on voodoo sound, to better use the SGS full potential.

I got some white colored over the ear awsome looking and sounding wesc headphones for 50 bucks. They sound in my opinion, really crisp with really good bass and a big bang for your buck compared to my BOSE's Quiet comfort 3, which sound better but not 300 dollars better theres a difference but compared to many others out there, the wesc BEATS them out rite in price, value and quality even tho I prefer my BOSEES the name says it all- quiet comfort (but really loud)

You don't need to be an audiophile to appreciate good sound. The reason why people say Bose or Beats are good is because they don't have any experience with anything else. They have gone straight from stock earbuds from their phone/iPod/etc. to $150+ Beats, so yes, it would be an obvious improvement.
Are there better options? Of course, but how would you know if all you've ever heard are stock crap and Beats?
Anyway, we can't blindly say what he should get instead. We don't know which Beats he has (which determines price range) and what he wants (in-ear, over-the-ear, open, closed, etc).

Word up, love me some cowon. That being said their **** is more wack that Samsung when it comes to proper firmware updates, hah.
I really really love my O2, but I probably won't buy another cowon product again, they let the ball drop too many times, but damn if it doesn't sound fantastic.
i've read that the Beats Audio, which i'm not a fan of, is just EQ for more bass. i have Sennheiser IE8s and come from a Cowon player that was sold. i also just sold my Galaxy SII, and it did not have good music quality at all. that's extra sad because of the built-in FLAC support. the type of music i listen to is mostly bass/ukg/electronic/"dubstep" and i need good bass, but also want the rest of the sound to be good. my question is regarding the full audio quality, not just bass EQs, and if it will be good or should i keep a new Cowon player in my Amazon cart?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/13/htc-sensation-xe-with-beats-audio-review/
In my opinion, you're not going to beat cowon on sound quality, it's just not going to happen.
I listen to dnb, dub, hardcore etc and I love the extra bass I get with beats headphones and which a specialised eq in the one x will only enhance it further. But for clarity in your music you should stick with the cowon player.
When I get bored of the bass I use my sansa clip, flac support and ridiculously good sound for such a small and cheap device. I also recommend that one vs the cowon
Thanks for the Engadget link. It was just what I was looking for and confirmed that Beats is marketing hype and no magic. Thankfully the rest of the package is substantial and so I've preordered
All depends what music you listen to, ive owned really expensive earphones in the past & not all ranges of the music I personally listen to were great.
If you listen to, house, hardcore, dance, trance & R&B - beats offers fantastic sound quality.

As already said not the end of the world as it's built into the phone, so we can use our better quality headphones/earphones etc!
Beats is a huge marketing gimmick for HTC
Monster headphones are half-decent bass-driven headphones, and have been making them for years. They're regularly tipped for "budget" buys (with the likes of the Monster Turbine, etc)
Sticking the Beats logo onto their headphones turned them into a fashion statement, and meant they could follow the "fashion" pricing rules (a la Bose etc.)
If you want headphones with great bass, look at the audiophile websites either:
a) buy a pair of non-Beats branded Monster buds which will save you a wad of cash
b) buy something different (I settled on a pair of Shure SE215s and haven't looked back).
Amen - Gimmiky gimmick for people who care more about 'the brand' and its ostentatious crap than spending the 60 seconds it would take to find out how overpriced they are.
Same with the beats software/hardware. It's just an EQ. All this crap about 'music how it's meant to sound', 'as the artist intended' etc. So you really think beats audio is going to improve Chopin or Eric Whitacre? Or maybe it'll just unnecessarily boost the low/high frequencies so it sounds over-hyped and cack.
I got the Panasonic RP-HJE900 Zirconia earphones about a year ago, and they're great. Bullet-proof too.

I tested some earphones on my dad's Galaxy Note. (UE triple fi 10 and Super.Fi 4vi)
For mp3 format songs, a middle class earphone is okay...
In my opinion, HTC machines have better sound quailty
You can achieve a reasonable quality with the Note. Definitely not on par with other audio sources but this is what I do. Rip music at 320 bit rate.
Headphones. Try and make sure the ohms is under 32. Most portable are, but 16 ohms is better for the Note as it doesn't go naturally as loud as I would like. Then look at the sound pressure level. You preferably need a score of over 108db.
The top end sennheiser IE8 have incredible measurements. And consequently go loud and dynamic and punchy bass with ease. But they are very expensive.
I don't think the Note needs expensive cans, but don't buy inefficient headphones. They won't go loud and will lack dynamics.
I've got some mid range sennheiser in ears, and I'm extremely happy with the quality.

Instead of rushing out to buy headphones, I would suggest upgrading the music player to Neutron MP, first.
The UI is not very good, but the sound quality is fantastic! Volume is increased to a point that will hurt your ears, if you want. I have compared it side by side on my Note and previously, on my Dell Streak 5. Neutron MP wins every time. The difference in sound quality is quite noticeable.

Depends on what kind of music you listen... Beats are a piece of crap for the price. I use a pair of Westone 4R, and even though I have an ipod video which is better for music than the note, the note is good enough, specially with playerpro.
The Monster Turbine are better than the Beats, for a similar price and same manufacturer. Otherwise, you can check Shure 840 for a full size can and medium prized or the ATH M50 for the best bang for the buck headphone out there.

beats is good
I've bought HTC One X three weeks ago and im very happy with it. Now I'm looking for a good headset to improve music quality. I've been thinking about getting a Beats Audio Solo HD, because I thought they would give me the best experience considering HTC One X comes with Beats Audio chipset and they look very stylish and smaller/lighter comparing to other Beats Audio models. Is there anyone confirm that my choice is correct, considering price/performance ratio? I've read many reviews but im confused now as everyone have different expectations (some say sound is muddy, bass is overpowered which causes mid's and hi's to be lost, some say they're not comfortable after 10 minutes of wearing and of course overpriced for such a headset and there are better alternatives in the market). What I look forward in a good headset after good audio quality and looks is noise isolation. I take a lot of bus rides so don't want to make everyone listen to my music Thanks in advance!
Beats = way too much bass and overpriced
Warning ! The Beats solo HD is totally overpriced !
I am quite an audiophile, play some instruments and listen to a LOT of different styles of music (electro, hip-hop, rock, etc.)
The only and unique reason you would like to buy a Beats solo HD is for the look (if you like shiny and cheap plastic)
If you're looking to improve music quality, forget about Beats headphones and try some sony, sennheiser, akg, beyerdynamic, audio technica..
My actual headphones headphones are AIAIAI TMA-1 and they are just AWESOME, a lot of bass with crispy end clear high and decent mid, removable jack cable, great design (personal) for around 200$ here in Switzerland. They were hard to find, but I love the fact that nobody wears the same in the streets (people all have iPhone 4s + Beats studio here )
Anyway if you want to keep it simple just grab a 70-100$ Sony bass headset and you will have a much better headset as the solo HD for half the price. :good:
I have Solo HD and they are just awsome ! And with music MOD's are even louder and have more bass ! I know the price is big but I highly recommendate them !
I also have the Beats Solo HD. They´re sounds excellent! Not so expensive I think.....in Germany 159€ only.
I wouldn't go anywhere near Beats products. Bass is overpowering to the point that the mids and highs are distorted (in my experience with a few of them), so if you're looking for clean audio or even discernible mids or highs, stay far far away from Beats.
in what genre of music Beats Audio fails to at? this "distortion" seems to be changing from person to person... everyone has different taste of music after all
lol at the hypes over the beats headphones. From most music professionals point of view, beats is clearly overpriced for its price range, as there are plenty of better ones available. You should shop around and see what your ear is most comfortable with, not following the sheep. And no, the beats audio on HOX is merely just another marketing hype. Having a pair of beats headphone around will not make your headphone sound better.
I bought the Beats Solo HD (for three days). what a bad sound.
Now I have the Beyerdynamic DT 501 p
If you looking for a headset see "Beyerdynamic, AKG, Senheiser, Bowers & Wilkins, ...."
there are many good manufactories .. for a less price then the beats and a better quality
I prefer in-ear headphones, they sound more natural. Anyway, I have a Beats Tour and a Sennheiser IE60. The second is much better! I know it is more expensive but it is just another level of quality. If you like in-ear and wanna spend 250 bucks, just get it, you won't be disappointed.

Well I ended up buying the AKG Q460 Quincy Jones on ear head phones for $200 au dollars. Yes they are designed for apple however I purchased the headset button controller app and it works. FF, RWD, customisable button functions. Only the centre button works. But the sound quality is awesome.

The beats are the apple products of the headphone world. Overpriced, status symbol.
I bought a pair of Dr. Dre Beats in-earphones and its the best quality music I've heard through earphones on the one x. Having the double Beats experience FTW
Also got em for $50 off eBay

You obviously havent tried other earpieces from better brands

Yeah, I really don't get why people buy Beats earphones when £30 Sennys or Ajays... or even Sonys sound better! If you really want to spend £150 on headphones, try a brand who depend on the quality of their product rather than hype and a celebrity endorsement... Shure or Etymotics, or something like that... everybody has different taste and perceptions, but the fact remains that Beats are a terrible value proposition. There's a world of choice out there
Hey, how's it going. :silly:
The Nexus 7 2013 plays music accurately and the highs sound very matured, but even with Beats with Xlouder the bass is to low.
I have tried all the mods i can find, Like viper4android that's great but the Nexus 7 still lacks hard bass, can someone help me please?
Thanks. The bass sounds low, and at time sounds like it's farting as supposed to my Ascend Y201 that runs rings around the Nexus's bass. Please help

It's really not intended to have bass, being a mobile device. Plug it into some speakers with a subwoofer.

Because tiny speakers are useless at putting out low frequencies.

i meny using headphones, it's terrible but great clarity no bass it's sad
Only thing you could do is use DSP manager and set a bass EQ.

I use a cheap and cheerful pair of senheisser ear buds, my htc one ear buds, and some cheap and chearful senheisser cans, all play music with great bass (i say great, as in great for the price paid for the headphones, but it's still plenty enough for a good d&b rave while doing the dishes)
Yeah..

The bass through the headphone jack is very poor, even with Viper and sound mod's. Comparing it to the Galaxy Nexus and it sounds a ton better. Cheap DAC probably? Wouldn't mind a developer to develop a mod that will really push the nexus 7's bass to the limit lol.
Don't use expensive high impedance headphones?
My nexus drives cheap ear buds bass retarded loud I had to eq it

Man their HD 201's, 24OHM lol
Lol at people driving big cans without amps. (Yes there is even bigger)
Try a 8ohm phone and listen how much better it sounds.
Besides 201's aren't known for their bass. Set up to 202s. Or at least properly drive them.
Used my device with my Grado SR80i's (32Ohm), Sennheiser HD-25 II (70 OHM) and with a professional concert PA system. The bass is fine on all 3 platforms. Make sure you turn off any EQs or DSPs in the phone, those are usually ****.
I can't say I use my Nexus 7 for music that much as I tend to listen via my phone, but I didn't think the sound output was particularly bad to say it is a tablet, even with a generic pair of cheap earphones. Perhaps if you want super bass and unrivalled fidelity you should consider maybe a hi-fi? Just saying...
Most probably, if you want more bass, it's unnaturally much bass anyway. Just like people who want (and are used to) totally oversaturated AMOLED displays and find accurate displays "pale"...

anyways, maybe your phone jack is broken and you cant plug in your headphones correctly? you may check it with other earphones/plugs...
I anyway want only more of one thing:
COWBELL!

Compared both my N7 2013 and S4.
The S4 has better quality on the same HiFi earphone (SM E10s).
But still N7 2013 delivers good sound though
