beats by dre w/ cappy - Captivate Accessories

has ne one with a cappy tried the beats by dre studios with this phone... got a pair for christmas so don't know if i should return and buy another set

I'm a pretty big audiophile and to be honest, they sound good/decent but they are WAY over priced in my opinion. Bose are they same way, they do sound good but there are less expensive options that sound as good or better.

Bose, Bose = Buy Other Sound Equipment at headfi forums .....

I actually have a pair of the in-ear diddy beats (not sure wtf diddy had to do w/ them...but their pink which I like ) and I think they sound great! I get my hair done weekly and they are amazing when I'm sitting under the hairdryer. I mostly watch TV shows or movies with them and when I use that 5.1 audio option I can hear everything... The price is crazy ridiculous but the sound is pretty damned good. I can't imagine how the over the ear ones sound.
I say if they were a gift for christmas, keep them.. but that's me and I'm all about the free stuff

its nice that that you think the dr dre sound good, but im dead serious, take a pair of dr dre beats listen to them then plug in the denon d2000,s i listed, i will bet you a 100 bucks after hearing the denons you will blow up the dr dre beats out in the back yard with a M80 firecracker.......

The op never mentioned which pair they have, the entire line is called beats by dre. There's the over the head pro's and studio's, the in-ear tours, the diddy's, the gaga's, the bieber beats.
You kinda need to tell us which ones you received in order to make a proper suggestion.
I like nice high quality headphones myself, but our local audiophile here seems set on getting you to buy a giant set of expensive headphones that might not fit your needs. Giant studio phones are awesome, but do you like having to carry those around in public? Are you looking for a set of in ear buds? I'd rather not suggest something you don't need.

I've used my beats studio with the captivate a couple times, but I made sure to keep my iphone as an mp3 player because the captivate just can't compare. The 5.1 option is pure b.s. imo, they just tweak the eq to make the mids sound distant.

As for 5.1, it's to create a different sound stage not for eq.

Does it really matter which ones he has? They're all insanely overpriced, look and feel cheap and sound horrible... You can grab some headphones for about half the price which will blow them away in terms of audio quality, same thing for the Bose... Anyone who says the Beats (or Bose for that matter) sound decent is not an audiophile, not even close.

the captivate and all other SGS models have a very capable Wolfson WM8994 codec with excellent output capabilities. in fact, that's the reason that supercurio is working on voodoo sound, to better use the SGS full potential.

Beyerdynamic DT-770 80 ohm model. Far far superior sound quality with better quality bass for $200. Use the extra $100 for an amp.

Message toooooooooooooo short.

I got some white colored over the ear awsome looking and sounding wesc headphones for 50 bucks. They sound in my opinion, really crisp with really good bass and a big bang for your buck compared to my BOSE's Quiet comfort 3, which sound better but not 300 dollars better theres a difference but compared to many others out there, the wesc BEATS them out rite in price, value and quality even tho I prefer my BOSEES the name says it all- quiet comfort (but really loud)

You don't need to be an audiophile to appreciate good sound. The reason why people say Bose or Beats are good is because they don't have any experience with anything else. They have gone straight from stock earbuds from their phone/iPod/etc. to $150+ Beats, so yes, it would be an obvious improvement.
Are there better options? Of course, but how would you know if all you've ever heard are stock crap and Beats?
Anyway, we can't blindly say what he should get instead. We don't know which Beats he has (which determines price range) and what he wants (in-ear, over-the-ear, open, closed, etc).

yes. i do that all the time as well as use my truck speakers with the tape adapter as my speakerphone.
I use a pair of hd sound buds I got from 5 below for, you guessed it $5. They are the best I have seen. The sound is real good and if they break I just go get another pair. They have a mic for calls too. Everyone I call says I sound real good through this headset. Cant beat $5 for a good set of buds w/ a mic. I have paid a lot more for sets that were not as good. I keep a spare set around b/c I am hard on headsets.
I use audio technica's clip on earphones, really comfortable and portable. The cable is lined with cloth, so it is a lot more sturdy than plastic or rubber, and it is near impossible to get it to tangle up, even after being tossed around in a wadded-up mess for a few days. Best headphones I have ever bought. They are a little on the expensive side, and they don't have a mic, but I listen to a lot of music, and I definitely fee like I got my money out of them.

Might wanna check out Amazon's selection of Sennheiser earbuds right now. I've always trusted in Sennheiser for great quality at a great price.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...nheiser+earbuds&rh=i:aps,k:sennheiser+earbuds
These ones:
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-MK...YMF4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323525004&sr=8-1
are marked down from 80 to 23! And some of the reviews say 70 was a great price for the quality. The next model up retails for 120 and is on sale for 30.
Or, go to Target and get a pair of Skull Candy ink'd earbuds. They are 17 or so, and sound comparable to much more expensive sets. Was really impressed by them for paying under 20. And the noise cancellation is great, too.
I just bought a pair of sony sweet little buds:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-EX33LP-BLU-Style-Headphones/dp/B001RB24KK
They were 20 or so, and the reviews on Amazon are pretty positive, but I don't think they sound as good as the Skull Candies at all. So they are going back to the store
I find that the urbanears bags works well with a mic for 30, or the klipsch s4a sound pretty amazing for 100. the klipsch app works pretty well for controlling headphones with one button.

Koss Porta Pro's. Sound great, nice sound balance, and pretty darn affordable. They have a lifetime warranty, and I believe I saw a version with a built-in mic.
I find the klipsch s4 to be reasonably balanced, but the bass is better tuned. they are squeezing a lot out of the high end.
I think that was a very complicated way to say "i agree."

What's Bluetooth phone for great quality at a great price...? Incredible 2.
I use the Skullcandy Titan model. For only $40 they're amazing. I see no reason to go above and beyond and pay $99 or $150 for Beats when these are awesome and compare to the same quality output. They're totally worth the 40 bucks.
For daily music enjoyment riding mass transit (buses/subways or trains) - a pair of in-ear, noise-cancelling headphone/mic is what I carry/use (picked up mine from a Brookstone sale 2 years ago, iphone compatible) and it is great.
The key is to install/enable/use DSP Manager on the ROM if not stock - I can fine tune the music/video settings as needed for various boost & equalization.
For the occassional oversea/long distance air travel, I take the full-sized Sony NC headset with the cups - I just don't feel the need to spend hundreds to buy into the Bose brand.
YMMV, of course.
I use the Beats by Dr Dre ear buds. They are around $75, but the difference between these and a $5 pair is I wont have to buy a new pair next week. These baby's last.

I like my cheap headphones. The sound is as good as I need it to be, they have lasted for two years now, and if I do lose them or break them I can replace them without breaking the bank. I use them on my motorcycle, in the sauna, while I work out, work in the yard, etc. I don't know that I would be comfortable abusing an expensive pair like I do these.
For me they are just like sunglasses, the cheaper they are the more I like them and the longer they last and the more expensive ones get lost, stolen, or broken right away. It's like they have an odd niche in the market for being backwards or contrary to what one would think.

I have a budget of around $350 to buy a really good headphones... I was looking at beats by dre pre or sennhizer (sp) for around 350. Any suggestions? I'm a audiophile and I enjoy traveling. My bode gave up on my about 2 weeks ago... And it's time for me to upgrade.

If you are an audiophile, you aren't going to be happy with the Beats by Dre unless you are more interested in making a fashion statement than listening to balanced sound.
In your price range, I would recommend:
- Grado Prestige Series SR325is
- AKG K701 or K702
If you need something more portable and/or noise blocking, I would go with the B&W P5. This is the pair of cans I carry with me while I am traveling.
+ 1 Grado has one of the best headphones.

I love all the "Beats by Dre are no good/overpriced/Your paying for the name, blah, blah, blah". Its BS. The Beats by Dre depending on model are fine. Its you who has to decide if there worth the cost. Just because Joe Blow who is not buying them does not like them does not mean you will not. For $400 before tax you can get the pro model. These are a high quality set that's metal and not plastic. The build quality reminds me of my MacBook Pro. They cost more than the Studio but I like the build quality way more. They sound good.
I had the QC-15 Bose Noise Cancellation set and spent about $300 I believe. I actually liked the Beats Studio better than the Bose. The Studio set cost about $300, some places may have them a little cheaper. You really should try hearing the sets if you can. For sure read reviews on those who actually have the sets and not those who just assume or tried them on at the store and think they know all about them now. Good luck.

The beats are over priced. What makes it so? It's really for a specific genre while not sounding bad but also because you will find much better headphones in the same price range that will sound well in all genres of music. Your definitely paying for the brand name/looks and nothing is wrong with that. If the damn thing sounds as good as it looks I'd have one too. My suggestion is to find a store that will let you audition headphones with your own source/phone. It's all about finding your preference in sound signature. We can say all this but it all comes down to you =]
My personal preference when it comes to portability
http://www.head-fi.org/gallery/image/view/id/497405/album/294058
Bottom line is if you are really anal about your audio and you are listen to mp3s then stick with what works best for you regardless of make. If you carry FLACs with you then Grado or Sennhiezer. Beats are overpriced for what sound they deliver (bass heavy). If $20 buds sound fine to you then get them. But the main thing is as long as your listening to a compressed format, don't expect perfect sound no matter what headphones you use.

For a phone, I always prefer to go with ear buds instead of full size headphones. I have a few sets of audiophile cans that I use at home, but they won't fit in my pocket and they're not practical for wearing outside or going on trips, and anything that can be billed as "sounds way better with an amp" is not going to do that dinky little phone DAC any favors.
I bought a set of Sennheiser IE8 buds two years ago and never had a complaint. They're nice and loud even when powered by a phone, and they include ten sets of foam/rubber inserts so that way you can adjust the fit without having to go on a second shopping trip. You'll have to do some shopping around first to find them in your price range, as they normally retail for $400. I managed to snag them from Amazon for $280 when they were on sale.
I bought some ath-m30's that have a VERY similar sound quality to the beats studios i used to own.
The difference? my ath m30's were 40 bucks.
That being said, with beats being sold left and right nowadays, you can pick up a pair of studios for about 130, and they definitely don't sound bad. A little bass heavy but I listen to hardcore mostly so they sounded good. The only thing i miss about the beats from the ath-m30s is the noise cancelling.
I took the beats to california (on a plane) and oh my god the noise cancelling was unreal. the low drone of the airplane is completely gone. when i got back from that vacation, i sold them for the ath's, and then went on another plane ride (to fl) and i was very unimpressed by the sound cancelling. I could hear the roar of the engines even over my loud music.
If you're going to get beats tho, they leak, and they leak bad. with my ath's I can virtually blast music sitting next to someone and they may hear a whisper. with the beats, they would be able to sing along.

Any reviews will tell you the same thing, Beats are not that good for how much they cost. Bose is the same. Saying Beats are good because there better than your overpriced Bose isn't a good review. Compare them to any real headphone brand in the same price range. Any real audiophile will tell you that. Just head over to Head-Fi to find out.
I didn't say they were bad for all types of music or compared to other not-so-good headphones.
The Bose Noise Cancelling headsets (Bose's entire line-up) are good for noise cancellation, but leave much to be desired in sound quality.
The OP clearly stated he is an "audiophile", and just "sounding good" for a $300 headphone doesn't cut it. The AKG, B&W and Grado models I listed sound much more neutral and conveys a lot more details in all ranges than the similarly priced Beats.
If you are happy with your Beats, that's great, but I would urge people to audition the other less known brands (to average consumers) and make a more informed decision. If the end result is that people still get the Beats, I have no issues; everyone's got a different taste in sound.

MacBook Pro's have terrible sound quality. That comparison makes no sense.
Everybody who buys stuff at the Apple store is always so quick to point out the build quality of their equipment, as if there's no chance that you'll ever find an overpriced gimmicky piece of trash as long as the Apple logo is overseeing it.
In Apple's own online store the Beats get terrible reviews. You'd have to be living under a rock without any other product to compare these to in order to believe you've got your money's worth after taking home a set.

Build quality entails much more than just sound quality, believe it or not. His point was clearly not to compare the headphones utility to a MBP's utility (headphones vs laptop), he was talking about how high quality the actual device feels reminded him of how high quality the MBP feels. I cannot believe I have to explain that to another human being. I'm fairly certain you have trouble reading.

I have the Bose QC-15 and my brother has the beats studio. Both are $350 in Canada.
The Bose are definitely better. Ive done many tests and the Bose is hand down better spatially, in noise cancelling, in comfort, and IMO in sound.
first, i doubt that you're audiophile, because beats sucks, crapy sound, sound leak, bad instrumental sepration, if you wanna spent some 350$ on a pars of cans, i recommend to you, to specify what type of cans you're a wanna want, like full size, close, open etc, and what genres you listen, if you want a good all rounder i would say shure srh940+amp or a sennheiser hd 600+amp and they are totally differents cans (closed-open), but thats depends, if you are gonna use a source like gnex i doubt that you're a gonna hear differences between 50$-300$

+1 head-fi would be a better place to ask as well
I would go with the Grado 125/225 with an amp, or the Alessandro MS-2 with an amp. I've tried audio technicas, but the Grados are the most neutral sounding to me. Plus it looks cheap so it's not an attention seeker.
IMO, Sennheiser HD25-1-IIs are the best value in terms of price/performance for portable audio (IEMs notwithstanding, not my department). While I love my K701s, that's a pretty ridiculous suggestion for a phone.

i've read that the Beats Audio, which i'm not a fan of, is just EQ for more bass. i have Sennheiser IE8s and come from a Cowon player that was sold. i also just sold my Galaxy SII, and it did not have good music quality at all. that's extra sad because of the built-in FLAC support. the type of music i listen to is mostly bass/ukg/electronic/"dubstep" and i need good bass, but also want the rest of the sound to be good. my question is regarding the full audio quality, not just bass EQs, and if it will be good or should i keep a new Cowon player in my Amazon cart?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/13/htc-sensation-xe-with-beats-audio-review/
In my opinion, you're not going to beat cowon on sound quality, it's just not going to happen.
I listen to dnb, dub, hardcore etc and I love the extra bass I get with beats headphones and which a specialised eq in the one x will only enhance it further. But for clarity in your music you should stick with the cowon player.
When I get bored of the bass I use my sansa clip, flac support and ridiculously good sound for such a small and cheap device. I also recommend that one vs the cowon
Thanks for the Engadget link. It was just what I was looking for and confirmed that Beats is marketing hype and no magic. Thankfully the rest of the package is substantial and so I've preordered
All depends what music you listen to, ive owned really expensive earphones in the past & not all ranges of the music I personally listen to were great.
If you listen to, house, hardcore, dance, trance & R&B - beats offers fantastic sound quality.

the beats headset sounds pretty good when paired with the EQ built into the phone, but as a stand alone the headset sucks. Im not too sure how it would fare when u plug in a decent IEM into a phone with beats though
3 have been told that any headphones will take advantage of beats

I work at Carphone Warehouse and one of my colleagues got a hands on yesterday of a One X white, he said it was EPIC! But confirmed that they will NOT come with i/u beats in the box, just standard headphones.
As already said not the end of the world as it's built into the phone, so we can use our better quality headphones/earphones etc!
Beats is a huge marketing gimmick for HTC
Monster headphones are half-decent bass-driven headphones, and have been making them for years. They're regularly tipped for "budget" buys (with the likes of the Monster Turbine, etc)
Sticking the Beats logo onto their headphones turned them into a fashion statement, and meant they could follow the "fashion" pricing rules (a la Bose etc.)
If you want headphones with great bass, look at the audiophile websites either:
a) buy a pair of non-Beats branded Monster buds which will save you a wad of cash
b) buy something different (I settled on a pair of Shure SE215s and haven't looked back).
Amen - Gimmiky gimmick for people who care more about 'the brand' and its ostentatious crap than spending the 60 seconds it would take to find out how overpriced they are.
Same with the beats software/hardware. It's just an EQ. All this crap about 'music how it's meant to sound', 'as the artist intended' etc. So you really think beats audio is going to improve Chopin or Eric Whitacre? Or maybe it'll just unnecessarily boost the low/high frequencies so it sounds over-hyped and cack.
I got the Panasonic RP-HJE900 Zirconia earphones about a year ago, and they're great. Bullet-proof too.
In this video we can see headphones that comes in the box .

My Scullcandy headsets are a perfect combo with The Galaxy Nexus Legacy sound. IMO Beats are a gimmick, & I listen to Rap/Hip Hop.

Yep, as said before, gimmicky stuff it is. I've got mid-range Sennheisers and am very happy. They've been to the washing machine thrice already and still work great, lol. When plugged in standard htc buds I couldn't believe how awful the sound was...

Best Earphone For Music !!!

Hello Everyone,I'm looking for a good Earphone as i mostly use my Note for music. The Earphone came with my note is good but it's not that loud.So i'm thinking of buying a new one.I heard a lot abt Beats by Dre.So i was thinking of buying this Earphone - http://beatsbydre.com/earphones/beats-tour/beats-beatstour,default,pd.html.But in XDA i saw some bad user review abt it that's it's not good for android phones. So guys i need help to choose the best one.
Beats by dr dre pro 'nuff said the tours are way beter then sennheisers ie8 and that is their top of the line model but get the pros on amazon they are cheap
Klipsch S4/S4a

where are you from? if youre from a place in which there are a lot of imitation (fake) items and beats is one of them, dont bother buying it because half the price that you pay for it goes to the name.. not for the quality of that said earpiece...
If you really are a good ol' time audiophile in which sound quality comes first, go for sennheiser, bose, marshall.. (not in order)
I bought a sennheiser cx-300 II and boy i did not regret it a bit!

Sorry that will not help in any case to find some good Inears
Don't get me wrong your advice is just crap. Especially Bose sells overpriced models which are not worth it.
If you can catch up an Ultimate Ears Triple fi 10 I would recommend that. They are sometimes around 120Dollars at eBay or Amazon. The Beats are around 150 and look better, but the sound of Triple fi is just outstanding for that price. The other upside, I haven't seen any fake of them. UE announced a new replacement for them so try to get them. (Review: http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/ultimate-ears-triple-fi/4505-7877_7-32492509.html)
But as someone wrote before if you just need some Inears, the S4i from Klipsch is also no bad choice. The difference to the UE's is huge. But everyone has to decide how much sound and price matters. The S4i has a lot of bass, but is not as clear and sharp sounding.
Best regards from India,
Rotesmofa

yepp, be aware they are not as hip as the beats. They are big, but the sound is for me better than any 300 to 400 Dollar In Ear.
I have à pair of Shure SE215 and think they're great. They cost around 100 dollars, but I see them on sale allot (I bought them for 50 bucks).
It's not the absolute best, but reasonably priced and great for use on the go.
PS. the Note does not have great audio output anyways, so buying top quality JUST for the Note seems pointless to me.
PPS. I think they sound way better then the Beats by Dre
Just my 2 cents

Beats? Please no. Go over to head-fi.org and ask your question there. Tell them you're about to buy into the beats hype but decided to go do the sensible thing by asking people around you first. There's a lot more to the world of headphones than what gets advertised. And with that, go listen to a pair of beats (doesn't matter what kind, all of them sound muddy anyway) THEN listen to, say, a Beyerdynamic DT1350 (which is in roughly the same price bracket), then report back.

Yeah buy expensive ones, and use 'm to listen to mp3 files.....
Just take some decent senheisers and be done.

Klipsch S4A
+1 on the Klipsch S4A. Integrates well with Android if you install the app. Bass is pretty good, especially if you use the Beats app.
you can even go for jabra they are also nice
Aiaiai track headphones are great. That's my daily commute headphones. Retro, not for everyone but sound is great ~80us. I have the ATH-50M which are awesome studio level headphones. ~120us these are for work when need to drown out the office noise. Just order Sony xba-bt75. Suppose to be one of the best bluetooth earphones. Kinda expensive. But amazon has them on sale now. Should be getting them this week.
The audio dac on the note is very bad. I do envy my iphone ownimg friends when im listening to music. However i have found that brainwavz beta headphones are pretty good when used on the note. Others have mentioned the klipsch s4 which are also very good but i have no experience with how they sound on the note. My rec is for the brainwavz

If it does not have to be in-ear there's a decent headset from Philips: SHL9705A/00
There might be better headphones around, but there's only few Android headsets
(with microphone and control button and even an corresponding app) out there...
Been using it some now, and they're ok...

I recommend you read this article first.
First, Beats is just an over priced brand with so-so sound characteristics.
If you are really looking for best sound you should always pair your phone with a DAC & External Amplifier (DAC only if the phone is compatible, at this moment iphone and samsing galaxy S3; I am waiting for Note 2 to show up so I can test if it works with my FiiO E17)
If you listen OUTSIDE / OFFICE look for CLOSED headphones. If you listen in your HOME look for OPEN headphones.
Most of top end headphones require an amplifier. Check FiiO (they are very good and a good bang for your money)
If you just want a great pair of cans with GREAT sound and very good value look for Audio Technica ATH-M50 ($159) video here
WAY WAY BETTER THAN Beats. And cheaper.
For In Ear Monitors I prefer the Westone 4R. The sound is simply amazing without the need for an amplifier.
Hope it helped. Best

Im sorry man but Skullcandy is one of the worst headphone brands. They buy noname crummy chinese headphones slap their branding on them and sell them for a profit. I have tried 4 different versions and they all sound terrible and the build quality sucks. Dont waste your money.

That is your opinion, I've compared beats to skull candy side by side and personally for the price and the customer support I get from skullcandy I would take them over beats any day. Now to your comment on them buying knock off headphones and putting their logo on it, do you have any proof of this? If you have only used there 20$ head phones yes, they are cheap, built cheap, and not meant to last 10 years. I personally got the SkullCandy Titans and adore them. The speakers can handle any type of music I push through them and, being that the buds are made of metal they last a very long time. The best part is, if anything happens to them, like one side stops working, skullcandy will replace your headset for free. It is a very easy process to get them replaced too.

Dude you compare skullcandy to beats both of which are overpriced and not nearly as good as other brands. I'm sorry but I am an audiophile, have been for years. I have extensive audio systems at home and in my car, so I know what I am talking about.
http://www.head-fi.org/t/470384/skullcandy
This is THE forum for sound quality, so if they say they suck then they suck. Sorry man, but it's great that you are pleased by their headphones, keep buying them. Also I have owned a set of Titans, I friend gave them to me last year and they are terrible. One of the headphones has lower volume than the other and compared to even my low end set of Sony's they are trash.
With Beats and Skullcandy you are paying for the name and nothing more. Anyone who knows anything about audio will not buy either of these brands. I personally have studio grado headphones and they trounce anything else I have tried. Sure they might not look as good as the others, but they sound immensely better.
I'm sorry but you shouldn't have to replace your headphones. The only time I have ever had my earbuds break is when I tear the cord, the brands I buy have never had one of them go out. That is a sign of shoddy construction.

Shures are great for sound quality but not for bass, so if that is what you are looking for then you might want to try Sennheiser or Ultimate Ears (though they are owned by Logitech now and may not be built as well) or Sony. FIIO amps are good, but be careful where you buy it from because there are crummy knockoffs out there being sold as the real deal.
Klipsch is good too, just check out the Head-fi forums and look for what you want in the sound. Many headphones sound good, but don't have enough bass for people's taste.
