I noticed a horizontal line on the top of my screen (0.25in below top) while using it in the dark last night and the screen test app (by amberfog) confirmed it.
I was wondering if others had the same thing or if they could check, perhaps its normal. Seems to be more visible on the red and grey screens..
Thanks,
Pete
it looks like burn-in from the notification bar o_o
I got it on mine as well... but only with red and not as noticable as yours... Hmmm why red?
def notification bar. Happens on amoled. Experienced it with my nexus and its creeping up on my galaxy s2 as well.

I guess you guys are probably correct with it being burn-in, is this normal to happen so quickly ? I mean the phone isnt even that old...

There is this strange pale spot on my Evo's screen. It is not a stuck pixel, and I am not sure what it is really haha. It almost looks like there is a tiny pin hole in the screen or something that is letting the back light escape. I have never seen this in a screen and am having a hard time explaining it.
Anyone know what I am talking about?
Take a picture so we could see

I'm assuming its brighter than the rest of the screen? If so its probably damage from pressure. It didn't crack the screen but it did damage it. I had 3 of them before I got my replacement.
Im not sure I will be able to get it in a picture but I will try to take one tomorrow some time.

Actually it isn't brighter but it seems like the back light is shining through or something. Ill get a picture.

Yeah, it doesn't really bother me. I only really notice it when the screen is bright white. I was just mainly curious as to what it was. My camera is still in storage apparently as I just moved. When I dig it out I will post a pic.
Just wanted to post that the problem I mentioned has been brought up by several others in the following thread. No picture required!

I saw the other thread about it....I know it's normal, but is it eventually going to be a problem as far as like watching movies goes? It kind of seemed like the burn-ins were only visible when the background was all a solid color, via a pixel tested app....?

If it gets bad, you'll have a ghost image that you're going to notice all the time, especially since you're now paranoid about it. Basic preventative measures will keep you straight, though, it's not as though it's a recall worthy issue. Max out your brightness and full screen a solid white screen for a couple minutes now and then, hell I'm pretty sure there's actually an app that'll even invert your nav bar, and notification bar for safe measure. Nothing to sweat over, enjoy your phone
I777 gets it done, gnex just for fun

Screen burn ins do not go away over time. That is why it is called burn in. The image is "burned" onto the screen leaving a ghost of what was there.
Well the images could be burned in because they're still being displayed a lot, like the navbar or the keyboard. Like a sunburn, it stays if you stay in the sun, but goes away if you get out of the sun for a week or so.
That's where my reasoning came from... Ah well, millions of people have this "problem", I guess it's really not a big deal.
Thanks for the replies!
Here's the app that fixes it.

Some isn't you can fix some by displaying only white color or things like that
I got my GNex yesterday and am already seeing some minor screen burn in. It looks like a bunch of rectangles along the lower half of the phone. I have 14 days to return it for another one. Should I do it now or wait as long as I can before starting the process?
It's NOT technically the burn in of the lcd days where an image was truly burned in. It's kinda like reverse led fatigue. Take the navbar for example, the leds have much less less usage time on them. So when the full screen is used the leds that are part of the navbar will burn brighter giving the appearance of burn in.
good day.
I see, so the burn in spots are actually less worn than the rest of the display?

So if u don't already know pretty much all of our s3 phones have black ink spots on the screen when viewing a black background at night time or somewhere really dark. If u don't believe me download the LCD test, go to black color picture wait a few seconds for ur eyes to adjust and ur screen to auto dim in the dark.. and ull see a bunch of stains.
I'm just wondering how bad is too bad?
I have 2 curved lines down the length on the screen and a few other stains. I just want to have an idea if I should replace my screen with hope that I will get less spots or smaller spots than now.
Please post ur ink imperfections here..

Probably like 6-7 q-tip sized ones. Maybe a little smaller.
=D I only have one spot that looks like some one stroked it with a QTip. Dead center in the screen.
Personally I'd rather have 8 of these marks instead of just one, DEAD CENTER OF MY SCREEN. Brings out the OCD in me.

sounds like i got it pretty bad lol
i have about a shirt-button sized circle on the top center as well as a few other random little spots. Doesn't bother me though.

That couldn't be more true, but some of us paid a lot for this phone. It's not an issue at all when you think about it, but once you do notice it, it becomes a psychological issue and it upsets the user.

***t screens.
just saying.
colors are nice, but at what cost. i would trade an HTC LCD screen for this one any day

Hello, I have been having the same issue with my screen on my Galaxy SIII since I bought my first one last february, what is causing it and what is it?
Pictures below, it has just started to develop on this my 4th SIII that of which was a BNIB not one of those replacement ones which my last two replacements were.
Photos below..
The circles start out hardly visible and progress getting darker eventually I have a row of up to 5.

I don't see anything I wouldn't expect to see.
Edit: I see them now. It's like one of those pictures you have to stare at to see the image.
I see them, and yeah that would be pretty annoying. Are you using a particular background, or playing a certain game for an extended amount of time that could be causing those to "burn" into the display? Anything along that line of thought?
Is that only noticeable on light background colors or does it get darker with a darker background color?
------------------------------------
If it was easy you'd of hired the guy at Home Depot to to it.
It's definitely a game or something causing this. Or background as the above user mentioned. Only issue that's common throughout all of the s3 devices are the ink blots. That circling is really strange. I'm putting my money on it being caused by some sort of burn in from the same image being displayed for too long.

I don't see anything, even if there were something minor you returned 4 galaxy siii because of that?
I once heard a story about a boy after returning five phones for the same issue that was so minor, his mother took him to a psychologist about his perfectionism disorder. (Nothing to do with you, just a funny story)

It only starts getting darker and darker and more noticeable. It starts only being noticeable on white to gray screens then on all screens.
I do not use or have any backgrounds or games which have that design.
Would you pay the same amount for an SIII if you saw defects on the screen?
I pay for the warranty so I will make sure my phone is in prestine condition if ever I decide to sell it.

I am very careful with my phone, screen protector, case, never dropped. Pulled it out of my pocket this afternoon and noticed a small pink area just over the button and to the left lower corner of the screen. as the evening progressed the area is now larger, about the size of a quarter over the button and near the corner.
Not sure what the hell is causing this, i'll try and post some pictures.

The screen is bleeding from the lower mid to left of the screen, i can see the text and images under the colored area fine, To me it looks like the screen has separated. The touch screen is working fine. I have no idea how it happened, I do know that it was never dropped and never came in contact with water.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I'll have to send it out,its now 1/4 the way up the screen. I'll have to use my Iphone for a while till this guy comes back.. From preliminary talks with Bell, they sound like they will push the "You dropped it" card... it will be hard to prove for them cause the lack of any physical damage, but hey, they are douche bags after all.
So this is as of 2 mins ago.
It's crazy, by tomorrow it will be 1/2 the screen!.
Update - The screen is now completely Blue with a dark blue section near the bottom.
This morning image
the more i look at it, the more i think water got inside your phone 0_0
I've never seen water do that to a display.
It wasn't water, It's under warranty so it's being replaced, so i'm happy about that. Showed it to the "support Tech" and the response i got was "Holy Sh*t"
It was a screen defect where the AMOLED display actually separated .
