Since the Wildfire S hasn't got a really high screen resolution, it still can be improved with this Engine, The Bravia Engine from Sony Ericsson:
step-by-step tutorial:
Step 1
Download THIS package. Link is down for now, reuploading asap
Step 2
Extract both the files to /system/etc
Step 3
Open /system/build.prop and add these lines:
#DJPBX TWEAKZ
#Bravia Engine Service
ro.service.swiqi.supported=true
persist.service.swiqi.enable=1
Click to collapse
Don't forget to save the whole thing
Step 4
Download and open Terminal Emulator from the Market. You will need ROOT
Execute:
su
busybox chmod 0755 /system/etc/be_photo
busybox chmod 0755 /system/etc/be_movie
busybox chown 0.0 /system/etc/be_photo
busybox chown 0.0 /system/etc/be_movie
Click to collapse
Step 5
Reboot ;-)
Disclaimer
This will impove video/photo quality, but your device will give lower quadrant scores in 3D.
Don't want MBE anymore? Just remove be_movie and be_photo from /system/etc
You do this at your own risk.
You might say you see no difference, but there is a difference! Watch this: http://www.sonyericsson.com/product/xperiaarc/video/mbe/
You'll get better pictures and photos!
small question......it emulates the bravia engine a bit, right? And will it increase the resolution????Sorry can't test it.....S-ON
Nice, will test when S-OFF. But if you say we might not see a difference, then what's the point?
Well, the improvement isnt so big that you'll see it , unless you compare them next to each other.

I don't even have a Wildfire S (there came one with my Vodafone, but I sold it because I already have a Desire S)!
So Ill give it a shot pumping some stuff into this forum.
Thank you m8
Tried this a while back on my DHD and the difference is negligible. There's gotta be more to Sony's famed Bravia Engine than a few lines in the build.prop and a couple of other minor tweaks.
guys I'm a Samsung GalaxyGio user.
If I'll installthis on my phone,do I make a chance to brick anything?
Doyouthink it will work?
If none, could you help to port it to our phone?
Works but I find with DIVX movies the extra processing involved overwhelms the video.
Can I just install the photo part by chance?

Hi! I would like to try this SBE too. Would really appreciate your new upload.
Dropbox is great. It has a lot of interesting features to keep your files synchronized between PC, smartphone, tablet, etc.
It's also very easy to share a file there. I use it everyday.
Of course you can upload it where you want. That's up to you.
Thanks in advance for your trouble.

[MOD] Hacked Camera.APK for better audio quality, usage with any battery life & MORE!
Final Update-
Some people have been asking for sourcecode/instructions, so once more, this is the method I used, all credit to Rafalense.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10980448&postcount=268
Those of you wanting me to reupload the APK's, I'm sorry, I don't have them stored anymore, and I wouldn't put them up even if I did. They're based on ANCIENT firmware revisions, and whilst I can appreciate you still would like the functionality somehow, I'm not interested in taking on the project again at this time. Thank you very much for your continued use and desire for my work though, it's very flattering.
I won't be actively developing or supporting this anymore because of it's defunct nature. If you want something similar, I highly recommend the lgCamera app, which has a far better implementation of improved bitrates (select whatever bitrates you want in a menu.) You can get lgCamera on the market- I highly reccomend it.
Anyone who wants to pick up this project can feel free to discuss here or make a new thread, as you please. If you do, please include the link to the guide by Rafalense, as it was the basis for this mod and will doubtlessly be of use to someone.

Hey folks-
It's with great pleasure that I'm releasing a hacked Camera.apk for you all today! This is my first android mod, so be gentle
Info-
The apk replaces the stock Camera.Apk in the Galaxy S II (or Samsung Captivate!), and has the following features-
- Allows use of the camera & camcorder at any battery life
- Records Audio in 192kbps/44.1Khz quality (CD Quality) rather than stock (64kbps/16khz quality)
- Increased Video Bitrate in 1080 and 720p modes* (See 2nd post for info and download link for this version)
- Optional No Sounds versions (for Standard and Highbit versions!). All of the features, None of the noise! Yes, even the autofocus noise is gone!
- HyperX-'s SuperHighBit version now available (See 2nd post for info and download link for this version)
I have left the settings for the 320x240 and 176x144 resolution modes as stock, so they will be the same size and with the same audio. This is to ensure video messages are kept within the filesize limits
Before/After Comparison (thanks robbiekhan)-

Additional info:
If you want to get rid of the shutter sound, create a file in /data called local.prop and add the line "ro.camera.sound.forced=0" and restart your phone. This removes both the shutter sound and the focus sound when your phone is on silent, but keeps the sound when it's not on silent. - llBlackenedll
Install Guide:
1) Root & install a file manager which lets you browse root
2) browse to /system/app, and rename your Camera.apk to Camera.apk.bak and your Camera.odex to Camera.odex.bak (for use as a backup to restore from)
3) Unrar my APK (password: [email protected]) and copy it over to /system/app.
4) Rename it Camera.apk
5) Close the file manager and run the Camera app from the main menu
6) IF the app fails to run, or the shortcut is missing, go back to the /system/app folder and try to install it (tap it in root explorer then "install"). This step is only a fallback, do NOT do this if it works already at step 5.
7) Enjoy!
ADB Install Guide- See 2nd post!
This mod was tested on my own Galaxy S II with KE2, KE7, KG1, VillainROM and CognitionROM firmwares.

Great work man!
Quesiton: does anyone think that there might be a little more video quality to squeeze out of the phone too, or is this already flat maxed out on 1080p at highest settings?
^^ The video quality is already very good. low light sensitivity is a lot better than iPhone 4, for example. I have tested side by side and the ip4 is blocky in low light and motion isn't as good.

Was your battery very low? I know if the battery is VERY low the brightness on the whole phone dims completely, but this isn't something I can fix. If not, it's an odd problem, I can't seem to replicate it... mine retains the brightness it is set to. Can you try enabling the "Auto Brightness" in settings (Display -> brightness -> automatic brightness) and see if it works better then? If not you may have to resort to enabling "outdoor visibility mode" in the camera settings to use it until I can replicate it to fix it.

Robbiekhan hit the nail on the head, increasing the bitrate doesnt necessarily increase the quality by a margin that is worth having... especially with the associated filesize increase. I managed to get it working at 32Mpbs bitrate, but the quality didnt warrant doubling the amount of space it used up.

As much as I'd like to, I'm not sure how to go about it. Did the camera app work before at those resolutions? I don't imagine it did, since I didn't change any of the graphics... which means its crashing because of something else. Probably needs a graphic redraw to suitable sizes for the resolutions, but that's quite time consuming and I can't really commit to something like that right now. Sorry.

Yeah but I did it first Mine was ready a few days ago, I just waited for a reply from soraxd as a courtesy before releasing publicly.
The method is the same for changing the video settings as it is audio, but I felt when testing that the difference in quality was not worth the difference in filesize. When I shot a video at 1080p with 36Mbps (that was the max I could use without the phone crashing) it looked virtually identical to the original one, but used up twice the space. If enough people really want it (though I don't see why) I will happily add the functionality to this apk, so you can enjoy the other features as well.
Hope this helped-

They only work on sony phones. What people are seeing is a placebo effect. Image rendering is part of the system as well deeply embedded in the linux kernel drivers. Placing two files with in system/etc with certain permissions does nothing. The build prop edit also does nothing. It is totally bypassed.
In no way were system files patched or hacked or anyway by this. You would have to hack the image process library and patch the required system files. As well hack and patch apk files that take advantage of this.

I can notice the audio different between with the bravia engine and not.
I used to have a sony walkman cell phone and listen at least 1 hour everyday during driving for 2 years. When I switched to the samsung s2 phone and i noticed the S2 audio is weaker then my sony.
I flashed the beastmod 4.0, i can hear the audio is very closed to the sony phone. I noticed the audio different before I've checked the change log, so this is not my mentally thinking. It's the fact.
1 thing I need to clarify, I do hear the big different if I am using my car audio speaker. But if I use the cell phone speaker or the earphone, honestly, I don't notice much. I believe the cell speaker or the earphone can't able to handle the best part. But the bravia engine does work on the samsung S2.
For the video or picture part, I don't know about it.

The bravia engine has nothing to do with the sound. Also it really has nothing to do xcloud. There are a whole bunch of kernel patches for the qualcomm processor online that boost the the volume you hear. By 20%. The qualcomm chip has dsp manager built in. A few tweaks would get the volume louder than what it is.
The bravia engine is image rendering. Which literally does not work. Samsung devices do not even have the correct system files or services which would activate it. This has been done on various devices the only devices its known to work on is xperia arc devices. Also bravia engine has not been open source. Either so you would need to do some serious hacking as well.

The only logical method would be to edit the standard media profiles, hack the camera, and change the way compression works in the gallery. Thats why on other roms its looks diffrent. Than on beastmod. I will also add that sony line only has LED-backlit LCD, capacitive touchscreen. Ours is a super amoled + not only would you have to reverse engineer to get the kernel drivers that make the bravia engine works sinces it is not open source. You would have to port them as well to make it work with super amoled drivers.

zeroprobe and me are are trying to improve camera quality, this mod/research apply for HTC One S but since libs and camera app should be really similar to One X, it shouldn't be hard to apply these mods to One X too

Interesting.
The One X and One S both use the same camera (I think), so it should be portable.
well, to see if this aspect of the camera start to go mod, I really surprised that nobody has yet put to work, the first attempt was unsuccessful and now appear to be applying a mod of the cam of sensation, hopefully that begins to be worked the issue seriously. A greeting and thanks.
Great news! Thanks :good:
Very interesting, I to feel that HTC dont use their camera full. Like Sony, great camera on paper but pics way to compressed, like a max of 2 mb and looks like rub* in full resolution...
Please keep on. I love t be a tester.

excellent!
FPS needs to be adressed big time....default outdoors is 24fps, indoor even less
never gets close to 30fps as advertised....
I'm getting indoors 22fps @ 19000kbps with cm9 18 not yet tested outdoors, I couldn't notice compression. When I was on sense with mod I got 29fps @ 11-12000kbps. 29fps @ 20 - 40 would be awesome.

I think CyanogenMod 9 -TripNRaVeR has the camera mod, because im getting 5mb pics and high bitrate video recording.
hi folks,
who tried it on the one x ?
Yeah, I have been using this same camera mod for a month or so now with out a single issue. Photo's between 2-6meg every time. Or in the Play Store there is a camera app that always gets me to 8mb limit. Its called Camera FV-5. There is a free version with very limited resolution, so what the point is I have not got a clue. The pay version is only about £2.50 if my memory serves me correctly. It has lots of features that I don't understand that are supposedly professional. But, if you are keen photographer and want to turn that brilliant 1X of ours in to a DSLR for the price of a coffee give it ago and spread the tips back to me once you have figured out how to use it. I NEED HELP.lol https://play.google.com/store/apps/...vbS5mbGF2aW9uZXQuYW5kcm9pZC5jYW1lcmEubGl0ZSJd
i have this app and works quite well.
so this camera mod, what is the jpg compression rate? can you also save as png?
I tried to install the hqcamera.zip in #6 but in clockwork recovery it just said installation aborted, and trying to manually copy and paste the files in Es File Explorer it would not work, said I was unable to delete the current files.
Any idea how to get it to install?

It would be awesome if this came to the OneX. Are you planning on taking that on yourselves or are you just saying that a OneX dev is allowed to use your work?

hi,
quick question, with this mode, do you still have all the functionalities of the stock camera like, shooting 5fps, panorama etc etc?
EDIT: sorry for the jittery video new one on its way! and added another link just to amuse you
hey guys!
today i was really curious as to how i could get a webcam to fully function, and to maybe permanently use one as a web cam. after hours of surfing, i found that their is a way to preview, but not to actually use one. so i wanted to fix this problem!
after hours of research, and a bit of testing, and have finally reached some success!
found a thread in the viewsonic g tablet section, that managed to do about the the same. since they were both tegra based, with similar enough soc's , i decided to experiment. with stock kernel and firmwares, the nexus 7 has drivers for plug and play webcams. what this mod does is gives permissions and makes the webcam show up as a rear camera feed. WITH THIS MOD ACTIVE YOU CANNOT USE YOUR FRONT CAM.
it was made for the g tab. if modifications are made, we may be able to bring it back.
WARNING: as usual, i am not responsible for any mishaps that may happen by you doing this mod, including nuclear monkeys taking over the world.
i am coating the writer at the g tab thread for the credits on who originaly made the base for this mod for the gtab : "Credit BELONGS to Borkata at "another site""
so first, u will need:
1. a UVC webcam. or simply, a plug and play camera. anything that didnt need anything extra to work, other than you plugging it in. some only need the extra cd to use its full potential, but may work without one. check here: http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/#devices
95% of webcams should work.
2. the attached file. (camera.tegra3.so)
3. nexus 7
4.OTG CABLE!
5.a camera app other than stock. (lgcamera or similar)
STEPS!
EXTRACT and COPY the camera.tegra3.so FILE INTO your tablet's /SYSTEM/LIB/HW folder, and reboot. BACK UP THE ORIGINAL camera.tegra3.so if u want to revert later.
plug in your camera.
open up terminal emulator. run this:
su
chown system.camera /dev/video0
chmod 660 /dev/video0
now go to your camera app and check it out!
taking pics works fine. video has bad fps though. response is a bit slow too. but i think these are software issues.
you will need to put those lines in the terminal everytime you plug in the camera. (or make some kind of a script, or ask someone to)
i am not improving this mod simply because i dont have the experience to. but i did want to share this with you.
here is a little demo i uploaded of it so u guys can get an idea of it-

Hi there,
there is any chance to exclude the input script every time connected the camera?
Is possible to make any permanent script so when camera connected, starts working on the go?
Regards.

my cam logitech quickcam xpress does not suppors(((( black screen in display.
At the beginning it takes some time, but after successful work, it has recognized my Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 and works fine with it.
Thanks again
hmm i wonder is there any chance getting photosphere to work with this mod

like with motion or mjpeg_streamer?

Could mean a few things. Either USB otg not working, or the tablet doesn't recognize the web cam as a webcam because it doesn't support plug and play, or incompatible ROM or kernel. Most probably the webcam's fault.
All of them was recognized by usb host controller... tried 4

try a different rom+kernel maybe? when you plug in the webcam, a folder should be created here: /dev/video0 .
did you put in su before the commands?

Wouldn't it be possible to take the stock camera app and to modify it so we can have access to the 2 cameras and photosphere? (This is assuming we do have the camera app source code available)

not to mention a bad cam itself will improve
According to the QUALCOMM: Snapdragon camera app is designed to make it easier than ever to capture, edit, and share the moments that make life so special, which works with Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 series processors.
We have a powerful processor in OnePlus X, so we can benefit from this great Camera application. For extended details on the Snapdragon Camera, features and some samples please visit the official blog post here
How to install
>> A flashable zip for automatic installation is here
Thanks to @Einstein67
Manually:
Step 1:
Download required files
- Snapdragon Camera v2.1
- Snapcamtinyplanet.so
- Snapcammosaic.so
Step 2:
» Download the camera apk and lib.files [Snapcammosaic.so , Snapcamtinyplanet.so] into your device.
» Open any root explorer app and navigate to device/internal storage>system>lib>place the two lib files downloaded above{cut/paste}. Also change permissions to each lib to 0644 (-rw-r--r--).
» Similarly, place the snapdragon camera app [apk.file] in device/internal storage>system>app and again change permissions to apk to 0644 (-rw-r--r--).
» Now, reboot your device to activate the changes and enjoy! :victory:

Excellent! Thanks! Camera is lightning fast! No more delay after taking a pic
Lots of options, but can't save to SD card. It will save to USB OTG though, I clicked on this even though I had no USB plugged in and it gave me a toast of couldn't locate SD card, which won't go away now. It works nicely though and some will find it useful.
@jackshot you've forgotten a very important point. The permissions have to be changed on both the libs and on the apk too.

Will that change the quality of the pics too? I know it sounds silly to ask, but I installed it yday, it worked but photos looked worse (much, much brighter) than on stock app. Also, after using this app the normal camera apk wouldn't boot.

Oh, my bad.. Actually a friend asked me to try it and I decided to share it with the community.. What permissions should we set on libs and apk? If you know, I will add it to instructions..

Right after trying this camera I tried the battery mod posted in the other sub-forum and unfortunately turned my phone into a brick. I solved it now but the photos are lost Not going to install it again, at the end of the day I realised that the oneplus app is the fastest and the google photo app will do the job too.

Well maybe it was battery mod's fault then?
I use Snapdragon Camera and I never had a problem or conflict with anything I flashed since then..

This camera worked, the only issue I had was that any other camera wouldn't open afterwards (had to fc the snapdragon camera), but maybe that's related to the missing permissions, that info came after I tried it.
Where's this app taken from? I also saw this post but they doesn't mention any source.
