arc vs arc s - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This has to of been covered before... I tried a search but to no avail... What i want to know is can the arc be o/c to 1.4ghz like the arc s or better? and is it an easy process? Reason for my asking is i maybe in the possession of an arc form a friend who has defected to crapple.. I have looked at both specs on the cpu and the only difference i saw at the end of the scorpion processor is that the model number ends in a "T" so is it a different processor?
Or would it be in my best interests in getting a arc s? would both processors be able to be in creased beyond 1.4? safely?
Cheers guys.

if you follow the steps correctly, then its not a problem.
yes, you can OC the CPU speed of the both arc and arc S beyond 1.4Ghz. im with the regular arc with 2.0 Ghz OC cpu. using the DooMLorD kernel.

The first place you should have looked was in Development section.

Ok awesome!! I had no idea you could double the regular arc's cpu thats fantastic im gonna have to pull my mate up take it from him then go back to him and show him what he's missing lol! But clocked at 2ghz and its safe for daily use?

Of course not!
Maybe for Arc S but for normal Arc 1.4-1.5GHz are safe daily.
Very high oc is just for showing off and benchmarks, not for daily use.

Thats cool, thanks for clearing that up for me, at least the normal arc can be beefed up nicely. the thought of having ICS with o/c and if wolfbreak does rom tweaks like with the x10 with the 2.3.3 would be very interested in using this combo..

Has anybody converted his Arc to Arc S ??
Wotanserver says you can flash an Arc S firmware to and Arc phone, but I have not tested it yet. Has anybody had the guts to try ??
Also, and as long as I understand (please correct me if I'm wrong), the only difference between the Arc and Arc S is firmware (same chip, just overclocked)
Arc S has different processor.

I'm gonna dig deeper into that "T" difference
if im not mistaken the only difference are their clock speed.
Is that really a difference?
Just flash Arc firmware on Arc, oc to 1.4GHz and voila --> Arc @ Arc S

It just means that it's been "factory overclocked", tested extensively in higher frequencies.

hi
a lot's of people does not understand your question......
can The ARC-s bsband (Kernel , etc) flashed to an ARC to use (cheat) the ARC hardware for ARC S ?
i think this can be reality - BUt maybe nobody have flashed the arc S FW to and ARC to try it. ?!?!?
Arc with Arc S kernel will still boot @ 1GHz
Just use Doom's kernel and oc it, best and easiest way.
I know that the Arc S has the same CPU as Arc, just tested at higher frequencies, but why can almost every Arc S run stable @ 2GHz and just a few Arc?

Not really, but... ok!
they have different touchscreen and display drivers. the partitions of ROM are different. so you probably cannot flash ftf bundle for arc s on arc. get prerooted arc s stock rom zip and put it on arc. take oc kernel fron doom, patch up the baseband too if you want.

i think the "T" in the cpu name means that arc s cpu is an upgraded version of the arc cpu. they must have add something on the hardware, not just overclocked by software. that's why it's more stable at higher clock (2GHz).
besides the cpu, everything looks the same to me

Overclock kernel

Can someone make a kernel that can overclock higher than 1.2GHz please? I don't know how and I don't really have the time to learn right now. You can probably just modify Intersect's source to allow it to go higher or something like that.

Pretty sure it requires more then just that (ie Voltage scaling, etc).
Also, most people don't like releasing kernels that could potentially burn up your device.
I know for Nexus One, Wildmonk use to release only to some people the 1228 (I believe it was) kernel.
In short, too much risk and most people aren't willing.

Thanks for the reply. I doubt going up to 1.4GHz would be dangerous at all, considering my Kindle doesn't even get warm @ 1.2GHz.

All depends on the device. For instance, my g2 came stock at 800mhz and it has been successfully overclocked to 2ghz.
My Kindle fire do get quite hot. Not sure what I did tho. Now it doesnt but the main issue that it runs only 300 or 1000/1200. So whilenits in use, its burning up. Im trying conservative kernel now.and that seemsnto help quite a bit.

Damn!!! Sure it's not a typo

No typo. The G2/DesireZ can be overclocked to 2.0 GHz.
The G2 processor was designed to run at 1000Mhz from the get go but they underclocked it for the final release to save power since it runs more effencient then the traditional 1.0 at the time. Yea from stock underclocked 800MHz to 2000MHz it can go.
Yea I kno, off topic.

It shouldn't be that much of a risk. Our KFs have an OMAP 4430, the 4460 model is almost exactly the same and comes scaled at 1.2-1.5 stock. Granted, the 4460 was designed for slightly higher speeds, but the 4430 was designed for 1-1.2, so an extra 300MHz shouldn't cause much harm.
That said, I really don't see why we need it any higher than what it is. Alot of apps can't take full advantage of dual core processors yet and even if they are they're not so power hungry that they need 1.5GHz. I've been playing quite a few Gameloft games underclocked to 600 & 800MHz and i've experienced zero lag. I guess my point is that the only thing that would really be affected is battery life. That's why nobody is working on going higher, it really won't achieve much of anything for all the work it would take to get the kernel stable.
Just my thoughts, though I think it would be cool to be able to say "My KF is overclocked to 1.5GHz!"
WHY would you want to overclock the CPU? I think its rather bad that most kernels for the kindle are OC? I rather like to use my kindle for one day with some minor slowdown than have 1.2+ ghz for a few hours. So here is the call, can somebody UC the kernel, or is there an working app like vsel`? or moto overclock?

Overclocking Wildfire

Hi does anybody know of a kernal that will enable me to overclock my wildfire to about 800mhz, my wildfire runs smooth at 768 no problem. But i have seen people with wildfires overclocked more than 800mhz. Depending on what rom it may work on i would be more than happy to move to another one. I was using CM9 unofficial but got bored after a while tbh ever since it came out i had it so.... anyways it would be of great help if you could leave a link for download for the kernal(s)
I don't think they're are any atm, and the amount of people that can oc to 800mhz without a problem I think you can count on one hand.
I was like you able to run at 768 on both my wildfires but when I pushed it to 800mhz it was too much. 788mhz was fine but 800mhz and it just froze then rebooted. Also the battery drain was worse at 788 and they're really is no noticeable difference in speed.

Just a little correction: I might be wrong but our Willy has no GPU at all Everything else would be my suggestion, too, but I think OC in general should put up a warning sign - everytime - at least the lifetime of your CPU will be cut even if you try to do it responsible lol

You should try gingerbread kern>E<l called Lupus Kernel. It has a little bit different frequencies and I was able to overclock my phone even to 1,8GHz! 1,6/1,7GHz was unreachable for me too but with Lupus kernel I was able to achieve even better freqs.
But it's dangerous and NOT recommended!

1.4GHz is more than enough. Seriously. Although mine can go up to 1.9ghz but I'm telling you, don't ever try it. Stay on 1.4ghz max or else your phone can be used to fry eggs.

Agreed. Mine can go up to about 1.8, but that heat can't be good for the device.

the overclocking is based on kernals... bt 1ghz is not possible with our phone... even the max 824mhz is not recommended cuz you may get freezing and random restart problems...

If you wanna melt your phone, go ahead.
The overclocking depends on custom kernels. If our phone came with a 800MHz processor out of the box, then maybe we could go to 1GHz. But not with this.
