[Q] Unresponsive Touch Screen... please help. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So, the screen in my Epic 4G has completely stopped responding. I've lurked different forums, and threads... but, have yet to find a solution for this issue. I factory reset, and formatted... screen came back to life. Woke up this morning, back to square 1. Tried reset, didn't work this time. The capacitive touch buttons at the bottom work fine, but, the main touch screen itself refuses to respond. I'm hoping this isn't a hardware issue. If anyone has any insight, please, let me know.

Take it back to Sprint and have them repair it. Sounds like a hardware problem since you did a factory reset. And since you haven't modded (rooted) the device, you should have no trouble getting them to help you.
Sorry to hear of your misfortune, good luck on getting it fixed...

Just a quick bump, for anyone who might be able to help. I'm hoping with every ounce of my being that it's a software issue, but, fear it's actually the hardware.

Why?
Hardware problems would be covered under warranty.

HELP! Capacitive Back Button keeps activating on its own

I'm sure this is a common issue and I've already done a search, but did not see any resolution for this? Anyone know of a fix?
The capacitive back button keeps going off on its own, non-stop, and I'm not able to use the phone whatsoever.
I've done a nandroid restore and it's still happening. Also the fact that it is happening while in CWM makes me think it's hardware related.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

If it happens on stock then its hardware related... if you have insurance take it to sprint and they will fix/replace...

Unfortunately, I don't have insurance and it's already over a year old.
Even without going back to stock, I'm sure it's hardware related because right when I turn it on, the Samsung Screen and Capacitive lights come on, and the back button is blinking.
Mine rarely does this sometimes, if I have the keyboard out. I think its a connection issue somewhere, but its so rare, I just deal with it. Besides, I'm gonna get an upgrade in late June early July. Why bother?

One X Dead

hey guys,
so my friend got a One X, that's Dead...pretty cheap...and we're trying to revive it.
up till now, the phone only vibrates when pressing the power button, screen doesn't wake up. how to access the bootloader "if it's even accessible"?
any way to know if it's fixable?
Uhh, it doesn't sound too easily fixable. If the screen isn't even turning on, you're off to a bad start. Sounds like some kind of hardware fault, not something you'll be able to flash to fix.

if you look at the phone, it's very clean, i can tell it never had a smudge or any fall...also the screen is clean, no scratches. quite a catch! what could have made the flex cable go bad?!
in the boot animation the screen is quite good!
You say in the boot animation the screen is good, does it ever clear up entirely? You COULD get a display like that from software, but it's more than likely hardware. For example, running Gingerbread ROMs on the Infuse with Froyo bootloaders cause similar rainbow effects due to a change in coding, so you can POSSIBLY have a scrambled display without a hardware failure.
It may have just been a faulty phone and that's why it looks like it's in good shape. It's not necessarily something that someone broke. It could be a bad GPU chip, it could be a flex cable as mentioned, it could be a lot of things. If you (or rather your friend) got it for cheap, and you want to try opening it up to inspect the cables, you can find disassembly threads and videos to tell you how. You could be going on a wild goose chase though.

sometimes it boots up with that white messed up screen, sometimes it boots with the sense 4 lockscreen. lags a lot while trying to unlock the lockscreen, after that all hell breaks loose and screen becomes messed up pretty bad.
thanks for the tips man, i will try opening it up and having a look inside.
it could be a bad factory outlet as a friend suggested...

Well, hell, you can try reflashing the software if you can see enough in recovery mode (vol down and power at the same time). I can't see how it would hurt it any more. From the sound of it, you either have VERY messed up software, or more than likely, faulty hardware. Does it seem like the display works any better when it's been off for a while (cold)? If it gets worse the longer it's on, or if it had been on and you just rebooted, it would point more towards a faulty gpu chip to me and the heat causing the problem to come out.
Not sure about how warranties transfer or if they do at all (might depend country to country too), but you could see if it's still under warranty and can be sent in before you open it up.

Hmm... weird. Not sure what to say. Well, good luck. I hope it works out!
What honestly it looks like to me is that they tried to flash a american version of a rom on to the phone so you have the improper bootloaders and such. hopefully this works for you.

I know I don't own an one x, but I do have a HTC Rezound, and I cracked the screen in it, and mine did the something while watching YouTube videos, but then it just went back to normal, this happened twice to me. I thought my screen was going out, but if yours is doing it and there's no physical damage, had to be something in the phone, or maybe software is that even possible? Lol.
Just thought I'd share what happened to me..
ICS Rezound.

yes it could be a software issue. so your phone had that issue after changing your digitizer/screen? and then became normally by itself later on...?
thanks for the insight

[Q] Dead screen

Screen has gone black. Sometimes i can see everything fine for a second and then it just goes black. I know the phone is still on because I can feel the haptic feedback of the buttons even when its black. My question is how do I unroot my phone so I can return it through verizon without the use of the screen? Any help would be appreciated I am at a loss on this.

Have you tried a battery pull? Can you still access your recovery?

I have done a battery pull and it did nothing. I have not tried recovery but I dont think that will help, I believe it is a hardware issue with the screen.

Like david_hume suggested I would try getting into boot loader first.
My guess is that its hardware failure. If you no longer have warranty/insurance on your phone you could try taking your phone apart. It could be as simple as the connection for the LCD came loose. My other guesses would be the LCD could have went bad or the connection on the PCB failed. You might want to start looking for a donor phone if you can find one cheap. Or if you aren't up for the DIY challenge it could be time for a new phone. If you decide to try fixing it I highly recommend looking for a good tear down video on YouTube.

The phone is still under the htc 1 year warranty so I could have it replaced under that. My only question is will they be able to tell its rooted by hooking it up to a computer or will they just give me a new one since the screen went dead.

I'm not sure about that. I've never done an exchange through them. I have heard of people getting warranty replacements while their phone is rooted but not sure if that is through VZW or HTC.

[HELP]Part touch screen not working

So until day before yesterday, My phone had been working fine, no issues at all. Then suddenly I started getting ghost touches. I thought i twas due to the some smudges on screen. Tried cleaning it, but the touches would remain. Turned screen on and off used to make it go for sometime. Rebooted, the issue seemed sorted. Then yesterday, I started to notice that the part where ghost touches were occurring, touch is not working. Rest part works absolutely fine though. Tried the screen touch test in service test in service menu, it showed that much part to be unresponsive. So is there any chance I can recover by testing with some software or replacing digitizer(which comes with screen I think) is the only option? I have attached the a screenshot of the touch test. The black rectangle in center is the one where touch is not working. I have removed the screenguard, so that was not causing the issue.
I'm on stock, rooted and xposed. Also tried reverting back to a clean PRF(rooted and recovery), but same results were obtained. Once or twice I was able to get a single line of touch across, but that's it.
for a week or two my phone also started getting ghost/phantom touches in roughly the same area. I haven't taught much of it until now, your post has made me concerned that my screen too will stop working.
keep the thread updated if there's any new development

Tried a few apps, none are able to register touch in the specified region. Will most probably have to replace digitizer. How is Your phone fairing?

I wasn't able to solve the problem, and I'm using as it is for now as I can't spend much on the phone. One user had said that even replacing the digitizer might not work, not sure why though. Were You also rooted and/or exposed?

welcome to the club
my situation is the same as with @Mirhawk. I'm using the phone as it is until I can put aside enough money to buy some other phone.

Nope, neither rooted nor xposed.
I sadly can't anymore really use the phone, it started from one day to the other. Luckily I already ordered a new phone a week ago, it just needs to be delivered....

Half the Screen Freezes

Last night I got a weird problem, half of the screen stops. Hard to explain but made a video.
Rebooting doesn't help, even the razer boot screen does it too during boot up.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you. I had trouble finding the page cos half the screen had frozen again.
Looks like I might be in luck as I went into 3 store and they will exchange it tomorrow when they get more in stock.
Is there anything that triggers this issue or is it just random?

Not really sure. Someone said that if you press on each end of the screen it fixes it for a couple seconds or triggers it. seems to be a hardware defect.
Yeah, just get it swapped out.
