I'm thinking of posting my ics theme which has many subtle differences compared to the one already available ; need to know if any of the files listed in the jpeg store personal information or are agianst xda rules to post - thanks.
None are against the rules, and apk's don't store any data, all personal data is stored in /data/data/

I love all the ringer options that are in the CM9 releases but I am too stupid to know where they are stored ( I looked in /sdcard/ringtones) and tried a search and came up with a fail (might be user fail.)
any help on the path of those files on the phone would be greatly appreciated.
Ringtones stored on your phone are in system\media\audio. Also there is a Q&A thread for CM9 where there are lots of helpful people.

In my gallery there are a bunch of pictures, drawable-hdpi etc.
Is it safe to delete these? I don't have external storage...so I only have ~ 1GB on my phone. I need more, so any suggestions what I can delete?
You can delete them... The rom your running is flashing those images in there due to not correctly recompiling... They are safe to delete..

I know there are apps like quickpic that do it, but the the new gallery is much better, so I hope there its a way around to hide folders in the new gallery

There's a QA forum separately, for future questions.
To answer to your question, place a ".nomedia" file on a desired folder containing the photos you want to hide using a file manager. It will hide photos from being indexed to phone thus making them unvisible in gallery.

Thnks fhilv....
Yeah but it's not practical to always do that,I was asking for some mod from a dev to enable such feature, also the share option in the new gallery is limited to certain apps, is there a way around to edit pictures from gallery with different apps like Photoshop touch

I am using this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tonado.boli.hermit.hider&feature=search_result
It remembers path, so hiding/un hiding quite easy
I'm using Hide It Pro its free on Play Store works flawlessly

Well I am starting this post because Samsung obviously doesn't know the difference between a system application and bloat... This thread will change over time while every app is listed in the location it should be in.
My goal is to create a reference for developers to follow the same standard in all custom JB ROMs so that developer's like Tdunham don't have to worry about where something like SystemUI should be flashed because with this standard, every ROM will have the same file structure.
System apps...
SystemUI - The name says it all...
Facelock - Part of the lock screen, it will load faster in the system.
Phonesky - Google Play store. This has always been a system app.
Google apps (framework, login service, tts) - should be part of the system.
Velvet - Google search... Has always been a system app.
Preload apps...
Any app that can be downloaded from the Play store. Books, Gmail, Maps, Magazines, Movies, Music, Street...
Widgets - They really don't need to take up space in the system partition.
Sprint bloat that is not system related or is unnecessary - Nova, NASCAR, Sprint TV, etc...
Any other suggestions? Please post with the app and the reason it should or should not be placed in the system.

Thanks for making the thread
If everyone sticks to the same structure it'll save a lot of headaches.

I don't think it makes the apk any faster in system/app over preload/system/app/. I say we move it all to preload.

Lol. There isn't enough room in /preload/ for that.
Since the /system/ partition is about 503MB and /preload/ is ~300MB give or take... The important apps should be in /system/app/ and the rest should be in /preload/symlink/system/app/
And as little difference as it makes, having apps in the system is faster because when it is being launched the system does not have to follow a symlink to another partition. We're talking hundredths if not thousandths of a second difference.

I hear you. Every second counts
But it is really nice to have uniformity so we can flash mods without worry and td has less headaches.

I'll get the list updated tonight with what I think should be in the system and preloaded partitions with the space that we have available.
I'll even put the file sizes and try to add everything up... If anyone has suggestions, please feel free to contribute.

Not sure why you'd want to find them but if you're trying to get it for free (or something like that), you're in the wrong place.
If that's not the case, mind clarifying why you're looking for them?

I paid for root explorer so that I can explore the files and folders on my phone. I noticed that half of the apps I have installed are not in the same location as I usually would see them....not sure what you mean by get them for free when they are paid apps already on my phone. Do I need to forward you google receipts...not everyone is trying to get everything for free. This is not my first post and if you were to check my previous posts you would see that I'm always taking time to help others in the pasts. Thanks anyways.
Btw Im looking for them because I like to theme some of my apps. You'll see I made a tutorial over a year ago on how to use 7zip to theme your phone or apps.

Slow down for a sec... I'm sorry you took this in the wrong way. There just isn't any reason to be looking for a app with root explorer unless you wanna extract it (I won't explain the process of stealing paid apps), which is why I was asking your reasons for it.
Either way, as you probably noticed, not all apps install in the same folders (often games). Some of them are installed under system/app, others in data/data and of course, data/app (there might be other folders).
You could also use TiBu to backup the apk, pull it from your phone (in the TiBu folder) and do your magic from there.
P.S.: Reading with a smile helps to avoid confusion and taking things the wrong way
I too pull the apps and theme them for myself. For Root Explorer and probably other paid apps I too am not sure where they are now. Root Explorer was always under data/apps but after its update I have not found it. It has a built in theme kind of where you can choose some of the images seen (text file, picture file, etc.) but I was just wanting to theme them color wise but I haven't found it yet. I will let you know if I find it, please do the same. I will do a complete search of all files to see if I can locate where it is hidden.
I also know some of the apps stuff is located in data/data but when you find speed software there it doesn't have the files I am looking for.
EDIT: I FOUND IT. It is called pkg.apk or red.zip and is located in mnt/asec/com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer-1/pkg.apk
