I was going to show someone some pictures I took but when I went to Gallery and navigated to /DCIM/Camera, a chunk of pictures taken from within the last three weeks disappeared. I still had pictures from before that chunk and a few after though.
Luckily I sync to Dropbox (via DropSync)so I'm backing those up now as well. Even Google + (via Google+'s Instant Uplaod) shows some missing pictures on the site even though I know I saw them there a few days ago.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I have had my HTC Desire (stock 2.1-update1 ROM) for a couple of months now and I'm enjoying all it's features. Especially the integrated Picasa tool. Take a photo, select share, then select Picasa and off you go. Great. Until recently.
Cannot find anyone else with this problem, so hoping someone has some ideas.
When I select the Picasa option for sharing, it brings up the usual Picasa upload options page that I am used to only very briefly (talking 0.5 seconds here) then quickly jumps to a screen asking me to create a google account!!! This is despite my phone sync'd perfectly with my Google account. E-mails pushing though, videos upload to youtube just fine. No sync errors at all.
OK I thought, I'll just sign back in with my existing Google account. Except when I do this, it spends a couple of minutes "signing in" only to then fail telling me that I do not have a network connection! This is despite trying my phone connected to wi-fi both at home, in my office, and whilst using 3G in strong signal area.
I think this all started after I accepted an OTA update taking my software number to 1.21.405.2. but I can't be certain as it was a week or so after updating before I noticed the problem.
I have Picasa Tool app installed, but personally I think its an ugly, badly laid out mess even though it does seem to work. I would rather fix what has happened to stop my phone uploading to Picasa directly.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry, can't help you with this but very interested as I have exactly the same issue. Also, as a google engined phone, why on earth have they made flikr & fb instantly available but not picasa You're right about the picasa tool pro too, functional but aesthetically it leaves a lot to be desired...see what I did there...
I have never used Picasa. But like 2 hours ago, I said why not and wanted to use it. To be greeted with the same problem. The account is active (gmail syncs without problem), everything goes ok... but it doesn't work.
Factory reset fixed it. OK, but not sure what I did to break it in the first place! Oh well.
It didn't work for me either. Yesterday I went from MCR r18 to stock Sense > r17 > r19 > r17 > r18. Suddenly, it got fixed.
You should make sure you actually have a picasa web account, and that you've uploaded at least one photo to it.
I've tried a few different ROM's the past few days... went from Liquid to 2-3 other then back to Liquid and now on AKOP M5...
Ever since leaving Liquid the first time I've noticed that my Picasa Web upload/sync is no longer working automatically.
I can manually push/share pictures to my Picasa folders, but where it used to be automatically almost instant after taking a picture now it doesn't do anything at all.
Anyone else having this issue?
Strangely enough I have the exact same issue on my dad's SGS II, but with an added twist where it doesn't seem to be able to access any of the Albums at all (no manual upload even) and says cannot get account info or something.
Yes picasa sync is with some issues lately, and it is staying at the top of apps that spend my battery cause it keeps syncing for hours....
ive made another thread but got no answers about this...
supposedly it's the facebook sync hack that's the culprit. Check out the release notes for the latest aokp which references it.
get an AOSP rom without the FB hack and picasa sync will work again.
Never have I checked any box anywhere for my phone to auto upload anything, yet when I sent my co-worker an email, over on the right hand side it has a thing to view recent pictures from me...
*Edit* nevermind my co-worker is an idiot. Those are past pictures I've sent him and google sorted them into a little box for him to see pics from past emails along with the new ones. Scared the bejeezus out of me for a minute. I thought google+ had synched up with my DCIM folder or something.

google+ does have the instant upload function and IMO it's great. Automatic backup of all your phone pics, no limit. All uploaded pics are private unless you explicitly share them on google+.
Hi people.
I recently bought a 64gb MSD card from eBay, and I had set the photos to be storaged at the external storage. Besides that I'm running Android 6.01
The problem is, last night I attended a wedding where I shot some pictures, and during last night I could see in the gallery that when I started taking the pictures, the pictures in the gallery was in the beginning there, however, soon after the gallery would say the pictures format was unrecognizable (WTF?), and the pictures would go missing from the phone. I've tried using the storage handling, which is provided by android. And I'm not able to see the picture. I've tried downloading ASTRO, and get it to show the hidden files. No luck either. I've tried erasing the .nomedia file from the MSD, still nothing.
I've tried here, the morning after to take a new photo, and I can see it's supposed to be saved at storage/emulated/o/DCIM/100media, So I've gone there by the USB port on my desktop, and I still can't see the pictures. I've been through every bloody folder on the storage without any result (And yes, I've tried installing the HTC app for desktops )
If you people have any idea how to get a hold of the pictures (If they are still there?), it would greatly appreciated!

I noticed that sometimes Google Photos creates duplicates without any obvious reason. This applies only for some but not for all pictures. The dupes are only visible on my HTC 10 but not on the cloud gallery. The file infos of both copies differ: One shows the file name without path information, the other one shows the complete file system path (DCIM folder as supposed). Deleting the former one removes it from the cloud while deleting the latter one removes it from DCIM folder but keeps both the copy in the cloud and in the local gallery. Even when it is removed from DCIM folder, the copy still seems to be stored locally on the phone (maybe in the Google Photos cache). Where would this be?
I tried to clear Google Photos app cache and data, starting from scratch. A few minutes later, the dupes appeared again.
Why is this happening? Who can I prevent this? Has anybody also experienced this?
I was really hoping to find an answer in this thread, just to see nobody has responded. I have this exact same issue.
It wasn't always like this, but the issue started a couple days ago. Photos is now randomly duplicating new photos taken with my OnePlus 3.
The duplicated photos are, however, also visible when accessing Photos from my Chromebook.

The issue disappeared a few days ago as unexpected as it appeared. Maybe some of the last Google Photos updates fixed it.
It just happened again.
Lol it happens sporadically for me. Not as often as it used to though

Happening to me too... Changed phones thinking it would fix it and alas, the issue is still there... Both phones are made by oneplus never had this issue on other device...
Hello random reader from future. Previous post is from dec 2016. This one is from aug 2017.
You are reading this in 2018, or later. Do not hope that google will fix it.
It's not a bug, it's Google Photos, it will do it if you change the name of the photo, copy it, move it to a new folder, take the SD card out and put it in the new device, send them again, see It's wrong and a dozen other reasons. No duplicate check or even MD5 checksum check on photos. Everything about it is new. Wait until you try to export your photos with Takeout, there will be even more duplicates! Try Duplicate photo finder software to remove all of your duplicates in your system
