My previous phone was HTC Desire HD, now my first choice is Samsung Galaxy Note but it is very very very expensive, i can get arc S about 250 Pounds cheaper, what should i do?????
Hows it like to have Xperia arc S? or arc
if you're not that much of a power user and just uses a smartphone for daily handheld internet browsing, some casual gaming, wants to take really good pictures, watch and listen to music and videos from time to time, and wants to be cool and stylish...
the arc/s is more than enough...it's just too dang sexy!
december is also a month where gadgets are an all time low (at least here in my country afaik) so if you're looking to buy an arc/s, xmas season would be a good time...
otherwise, if you're that techy person who likes to try out different stuff with smartphones of all sorts, then uhm imho, i'd wait for a better model that rolls out next year...
*the only thing i dislike about my arc is that it doesn't have a front cam... =(
even if it ain't dual core, i can pretty much utilize the most of it anyways...
Yup. Better wait for 2012 lineup now. Dual core & some say quad processor is a must
If you in the market for Sony wait better handsets are coming

The Arc S is just an overclocked Arc. You can do that yourself if you root it.
via Sony Ericsson Xperia
I also came from desire hd. I use my arc more intensely than my desire hd. Stock rom rooted nothing more. Better battery life, better camera, better everyyhing. I play hd games for good hours experience once in a while lags.

I suggest you to wait and see the 2012 lineup, maybe the Nozomi is the one for you, or maybe the galaxy Note is not as expensive as it is right now.
In my case I'm very happy with my Arc, specially with the design (the most beautifull up to date to me) and it can run all the apps that i need without problem.
Regards
thanks All,
i have already ordered a Xperia Arc S, but unfortunately i am having issues with my mobile company over some previous address, well i will try to sort it out if not than i will push vodafone for Galaxy nexus.
My ARC is just arriving next week...
I am so eager to put my hands on it...

Cool. You'll love it.
Haha I'm also from desire hd too..end using a Arc.
Well I like the physical buttons below.no need to press the top button to wake up the phone.
But might wanna get arc s..since it's on a 1.4ghz processor.
Then again there be many models that coming out on at least 1.5ghz dual core etc phones.

Yes, I would also like to know how satisfied Arc owners are, if the rumors of the Arc HD (Nozomi) are true. It's a beautiful phone, and having owned three different iPhones, I can say that is the thing I miss the most since I switched in November to Android. I know that the SE Android phones have not exactly been spec kings, but has that been really noticeable with your current Arcs?

It's a quite satisfying phone to have, I love mine.
There are always phones that are better and phones that are worse though.
It's a never-ending process.
There is absolutely no difference between ARC or ARC S except Arc S has 1.4Ghz processor.
The only reason i upgraded to Arc S was for the 3D Multiangle, but SE never included that feature
If you get yourself an Arc S at least you won`t have the bother of unlocking bootloader to overclock
NB. I Still love my ARC, best phone i`ve ever had

Not true at all.
Arc S scores much better than Arc is every benchmark.
Plus is has double download/upload speed (from 7.2 to 14.4)
Anyway it's a great phone.
I'd say double core doesn't matter yet. Arc works like a charm.
Interesting. I'm guessing Sony has some optimization/HW acceleration that others don't have. I heard how smooth the SGSII (AT&T SGH-i777) was, but when I switched from the 4s, it still felt slower than either my 4 or 4s, and while it may have been better at surviving a fall, it just felt cheap. That's why I want to find out about the Sony devices before I waste any time (and $35) trying them out.

Hi all..
So im thinking of getting the Arc.. (have the x10). Whats the actual big difference in terms of the two phones ? From what i see online they are very similar.
X10 Weighs more and doesn't have a HDMI port lol
Arc looks better (my opinion of course)

Well I agree on that... Just trying to decide what phone to get my contracts due for a upgrade ...
Again my personal opinion but get the Arc it's a fantastic phone
First and foremost, the firmware. Android Gingerbread is way faster than Froyo. Much much more than stock x10 which is Eclair.
Second, the processor. Although at same speed of 1Ghz, arc processor is faster still. Much like an intel pentium 4 vs. Core at same clock speed. And with 45nm process, it should require less battery.
Ram. It has more so it should run pretty much more than x10.
Exmor camera, hdmi, bravia lcd, etc, etc..
If you have an x10 I would say wait for a dual core SE. The Arc is too similar to the X10 in terms of hardware. Ofcourse the camera and screen are way better, but the rest of it is more or less the same

You are correct as far as hardware goes, but the camera and screen are not just improved, IMHO it is a big improvement.
The whole phone just seems better. My only gripe is the stupidly slippery battery cover, but I have a case on the way lol

If you've got and love your X10, you'll love the Arc even more! The Arcs battery cover is a tad slippery as LT has mentioned, but just buy one of THESE which has the same feel and texture as the X10's battery cover and your phone will be complete.
Moving from X10i to Arc was fantastic ... The performance & sleekness of the phone is beyond just hardware specs. It's just a big improvement from the X10i
Thanks for the replies i will probably get it then, end of the month.
Arc is a huge upgrade to the X10, but X10 is really easy to install custom stuff onto while Arc's bootloader still hasn't been unlocked

Personally, at this time, it's much better to look for a newer released phone. Probably a dual core with a bigger internal memory. But if camera is your main thing, then go for arc plus it's design is really a beauty. And for average usage, arc is enough.

I have used following phones:
HTC Desire, Samsung Galaxy S, iPhone 4, Xperia X10 & Arc
I can say that I was never satisfied with the ugliness of HTC & cheapness of Samsung.
HTC Desire was always short of Internal Memory, Samsung KIES sucks a big time, touch screen is aweful.
iPhone is good phone but not for me, nothing much to do
Xperia X10 was a good effort from SE but lacks proper updates.
Xperia Arc is complete package:
1. Awesome design (best of all android devices, even better than iFail)
2. Best Camera.
3. Decent video recording.
4. Great Sound (compared to HTC, Samsung)
5. Impressive UI & touch screen.
6. Regular updates from SE as well.
only RAM is 512 (not a major problem)
But again, its my opinion

Here is the Camera Test(Not by ME):
http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=1&idPhone1=3619&idPhone2=3621&idPhone3=3598
From the above you can see ARC have Good Quality.
In My Opinion:
Camera Quality is very good when compared to SG,Desire.
i was using the X10 since sept 2010 and i was holding out for a SE dual core phone, but the X10 was just too slow.
I just got an Xperia Arc used on Craigslist, so it price was good.
As for the camera quality, every thing looks good on the camera screen, but i haven't reviewed or taken enough pictures to make a good judgement about the Xperia Arc's camera.
However, from the few that I have reviewed, it does take better night pictures, but they are FILLED with noise. I have kept all the photos on my SD card. I used to have a K750 --> K800 --> X10 --> Arc and I just keep moving the pictures over from the memory sticks and you definitely see the improvement in camera quality, except from the X10 --> Arc.
If you can get it for a good price, I would just upgrade, sell the X10 for whatever you can get, and then wait it out for a dual core SE or have fun with it until you decide to drop the big bucks for a SGS2 or something that is WAY faster.
The Arc's speed is much better than the X10's but it's still a bit laggy, esp with a huge SMS history and Whatpapp logs...

Wow seriously? I hadn't heard that, on what grounds?
It was my second day owning an arc in the US. Of course I have been digging threads to find a way to easily root this US model. Also the new firmware update is not available for US. It makes me think, isn't the United States a big market for SE, why don't they have the US a little higher priority?

Hi all,
I am currently using an Xperia X10, with unlocked bootloader and a custom rom. Does almost everything i need from a phone, but it can always be faster and better right
Today i stumbled upon a nice offer with an Xperia Arc S. I can also choose a samsung galaxy s plus..
So i have a few questions for you guys:
Do you recommend the arc s? I really like SE for it's build quality and excellent camera. So the samsung is out i think . PLus the Arc S having Android 4.0.
Is the Arc S nicely build?
Battery life? (xperia x10 has 1500mah, but with custom rom it gets trough the day with ease)
I will almost certainly do the same with it as i did with my x10 : rooting the phone and tweak it. So is the arc S an easy phone to edit and root? Are there some nice ICS roms for it? (of course there are )
How about performance? i know it is not the best phone on the market, you could even call it an "older" model. Adreno 205 is a good GPU isn't it?
And is the camera really as good as Sony claims it is? Yeah i am not comparing it to my dslr (SonyD) Alpha A500), but can you make some nice pictures with it.
Or should i just pay a bit more and go for Xperia S
I have been using my x10 for 2 years now, don't know if i will do the same with the arc S. But the offer is so good that i could even sell the phone and still don't pay more than with my current Sim-Only.
I hope i get some answers from you guys. Information from users is much more valuable than everything i read on the net. Reviews are generally pretty positive.
Greets, and thanks in advance
I would go for the Xperia S personally, the arc is great but the lack of RAM and memory make it often frustrating to use. Multitasking is a pain because you'll find that you leave an app, come back to it and it will have closed most annoying on the browser. Also once you install a decent amount of apps on it you do start to notice it lag.
It is a great phone, as long as you're a light user. Going back to my arc from my Xperia S you do notice this more. That said it is a good update from the X10 which is very sluggish with 2.3, but if you want something much better and more future proof I would recommend at least a phone with 1GB RAM and a dualcore processor.
I don't have an arc s, I have an arc. I previously used an x10 though and the arc is worlds better (even with similar specs). The rom community for the arc is also very active so you'll likely find exactly what you need for your usage.
That said, adsada is right; if you can swing it I would get a newer xperia phone, but if the deal on the arc s really is a good one I can't see any reason not to grab it. Just expect to use your phone like a phone, not a computer
if u buy arc s you are going 10 months behind with u see the config..but the looks are still futuristic..one of the best looking phone. but only drawback is its RAM..if u want your phone to survive jelly beans load and want to stick to it atleast for 1-1.5 years then i think your btr go for xperia s..
i have 3 smartphones..i see my defy as a rough & tough man..i see my SGS2 as a big corporate man with suit blazers..but when i see my arc s i see her as a sexy victoria secret model ..
BTW this is general section...Questions should go into Q & A section..
The build quality is good.
The battery life...hmmmmm.. I am still waiting for the phone that last more than 1 day in heavy use. Still, with the right ROM and settings, it lasts about 10h (and by heavy duty I mean HEAVY DUTY, used at least 6h out of 10 - music, internet (data), gaming, etc)
Camera is good. I had nothing to complain about.
The RAM and internal memory is indeed a drawback. Still, some workarounds can be found with the right ROM and app configurations.
If you want it mainly for the design.. go for it, it is great!
If you are more interested in force than in beauty... go for Xperia S.
Thanks for the answers.
Yeah the offer is pretty nice, but i think i will wait a bit and buy something a bit more high performance.
Looks of the Art S are the best though, i really think there isn't a better looking phone on the market right now.
Lack of Ram is something the X10 has too. Really irritating sometimes, but after some modding you can run it pretty fast.
But i really like to tweak things, and i like technically advanced stuff. So it is probably better to buy something different.
Don't know if i stay with sony though.. Samsung galaxy S2 is getting a lot cheaper fast here. So that probably is a lot value for many. I hate touchwich, so that one will be modded for sure
i have an Arc S, to be honest i prefer the Galaxy. Arc S is good but when it comes to updates i think ICS will be the last update this phone will ever taste (porting will help but some stuff might not work)
maybe newer ver of android requires a bigger memory (RAM) ICS is kinda slow on this phone but Modding helps speed it up.
im an arc user also..
work in a mobile section been exploring all high end phones
just my own opinion and what ive experience
sony - camera / visual(your screen) / audio
those criteria sony will have great advantage towards other brands
but speed xperia s dual core old architecture cpu,
s4 dual core phones will swallow it alive
im planning also to change my phone maybe other brand
i used my arc for almost a year now and the ram just cant handle it
got an Samsung Galaxy S2 and an Sony Arc S. have to say, the RAM on the Arc is really a problem, but the camera is way better than on the Samsung :-D
currently I´m trying AOKP on my Arc S, just to see if it handles the RAM really better than Stock
so for you: get a device with more RAM and nice optics ;-) but you probably won´t be disappointed with the Arc S.
... If you want a upgrade from x10 go for sony S http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_s-4369.php, it is a bit expensive now, but if you wait a little it will be a good upgrade.
So, i'm usin Samsung Nexus S at the moment, but i'm thinking to swap it for Arc S, Anyone can tellme is it a good desicion? Is Arc S good phone?

what do you mean by xperia arc s is not outdated? I mean, is it a good phone?
Go for it...
Well, since you are posting in Xperia Arc/S subforum, I don't know how much "objective" answers you can get, but nevermind, here is my answer.
I bought my Arc S about month and 1/2 ago, and I'm ultra satisfied with this phone, design-wise and function-wise...
I was in love with this phone since it was announced, and now when I own one, I'm in love even more.
What you will get, is one of the most beautifully and originally designed phone on market, if not the most beautiful and original. I'm afraid that this is the last brave and risk-taking design in smartphone market, but only time will tell.
Hardware-wise, you will get a little bit outdated hardware (heh, who could imagine year ago that we will speak about 1.4GHz mobile processors as "outdated"), but capable enough to run Gingerbread ultra smoothly, and to run recent ICS updates tolerably fast. After all, you will have phone with official SONY branded ICS, and it will not feel outdated at all. I don't know how big your budget is, but my vote goes for Arc S, as it is killer design-wise, and to me it looks much better than new NXT Xperia 2012 line.
Its a nice phone
At the same price you can find a galaxy s 2...choose that, there is a really more active ROM development support...
Then I own an arc s...and for gaming is ****. The same games work flawlessly on the galaxy s 2...

Hey.. I also switched to SE from Nexus S.. And I can tell you, you wont be happy with Xperia 2011 family.. Its got the same hardware as Nexus S and is a bit outdated. Also the development is far less in these devices than we find in the Nexus Forum.. You'll better chose Galaxy Nexus which comes with the same price tag as the Arc/S..

Pros: The best designed phone out there. No manufacturer (not even Sony) can come up with such a beauty ever again.
Music is great, Sound output is terrific and in-call sound is audible even in noisy environments.
OS look and feel is terrific and it offers plenty of features (DLNA, HDMI, built in panaroma) that many phones lack.
Cons: Hardware. The OS is painfully slow. Even gingerbread is not upto the mark. many on this forum have completely forgotten that the contact/messaging hangups occured in 2.3 as well. After ICS update, the phone became terribly laggy that we started believing that GB worked well. Trust me, once you fill up your phone memory with apps, the phone will die from inside! Ever wonder why people run after custom ROMS even though Sony's official UI offers more features?
Camera: Still camera is decent but the phone is just not made to shoot HD videos. Give it a pass. With ICS update, camera performance has degraded.
Final words. Go get yourself a phone with latest hardware. Sony Xperia S/P may not look as pretty from outside but they do exceptionally well from inside. The UI is new and phone supports many other features (All 3.5mm headphones are supported/NFC etc etc).
If your budget allows, try HTC One X, Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S3.
Or wait for the 2012-13 series of Xperia phones with S4 processor.

Looks like Sony have answered your/our prayers! the new Xperia line has arc design and better build quality and the benchmarks are now showing them as better performers than most flagships out there. The Dual Core S4 has an upper hand over Quad Cores. Go get yourself an Xperia T/TX. Xperia V is overpriced.
No one can beat Sony in design!
+1 , Xperia TX has the same design as Arc S (well at least it is curved as the Arc S) and its processor looks to be promising !!
Will be my next phone by the way, just waiting for it to reach the market ^^
I agree totally with everything you said,it might not be the newest phone but it's so customizable!!, keeping it up to date.

i don't really play much
Then go for Arc S. Problem solved...
You won't find prettier phone.
I have a newest Ics update and i's not slow or laggy. Camera quality compared to gb is better ( sony resolved over compression problem ), video is the same, only audio is worse cause mono but i's not a big difference. I'm not a game player so for me it's a decent upgrade after htc desire...

Hello there,
I am a Sony Xperia S user for 11 months now and so far I have been largely satisfied with my device. I have always run on the Stock ROM, I have not unlocked my bootloader yet and I do not intend to do so.
However, in the light of recent events I find myself thinking of a switch to another phone with better characteristics and more recent hardware. The best deal seems to be Sony Xperia T - newer chip, better support from Sony; perhaps it would receive further JB updates (4.2, 4.3) as well. Still, its recent price is just above 300 euros - unlocked and without contract - in my country. In comparison, I still have to pay about 200 euros for my Xperia S to the end of my 2-year lease contract with my local mobile service provider. That's why I am considering paying off the remaining sum of the lease in advance and then selling my Xperia S for about the same amount of money.
There are several reasons why I am considering such a switch. For one, Sony does not seem too eager to support Xperia S any longer. Yes, the 4.1.2 JB update is on the way but it has been for several months now. The numerous delays, and I am not too interested in the respective reasons, have finally put me off this otherwise pretty good all-rounder phone. Second, we have to take into account that the Snapdragon S3 chip is already heavily outdated and it would most likely not receive any further software development. When considering the alternatives, Xperia T seems to be the best one, because of its price, hardware and software. I am very fond of Sony's interface, indeed.
So I wonder what is your opinion on the matter? Is Xperia T worth it to replace my Xperia S for the next couple of years?
This thread could provide a general discussion of Xperia S's future, too.
I think its time to move on. Im never going back to Sony unless they improve. Im keeping my phone for few months more. I just bought my Sony phone and Im pretty disappointed. HTC and Samsung have better phones than Sony why settle for Xperia T or V, if you can have better.
My friend got Xperia T, and i don't like that phone.
Move on something newer, keep in mind (snapdragon 600) will receive every update before S4 and S4pro

It is made very clear by the moderators that threads condemning Sony is not allowed. This thread is going to get locked soon. However, I noticed it is always those few monkeys tryin to be funny, not able to listen to simple English. Sony might not be good in updating Xperia S, but they didn't break any promises and my current ICS build is flawless.
Sony might not reach Samsung's level yet but it has suppressed HTC greatly already. Those who don't know, HTC abandons HTC Sensation, the phone with the exact same CPU as Xperia S.
So has sony, it had forgotten about xperia u when jellybean was announced

I own an Xperia U and it lags badly on ICS. They didnt abandon Xperia U. It is just not fit for JB. Anyways, Sony sales numbers have been steadily increasing YOY and already destroyed Motorola's and HTC's. Sony will continue to rise as 99% of customers dont give a damn about updates, fortunately.
Xperia go seems to have less hardware capabilities than xperia u, no??

LOL. Please don't play with me. Xperia Go have the exact same specification as Xperia U. Xperia Go have a lower screen resolution resulting better performance. Then you will ask Xperia J. Sigh, kids these days.
Excuse me then I'm sorry Mr lee
And lol I was not coming to xperia j

R: Finding myself on a crossroad - maybe it is time to move on
Pretty much of your same opinion... I'm totally satisfied until now for what I've done with my Xperia S, but I really cannot stand anymore the politics of software update that Sony is pursuing.
And ok, my phone is fully unlocked and I tried a lot of custom roms to get closer to what is a pure android system, but to me those all are still full of bugs.
And to be honest, stock remains the best deal.
I'd like to switch to a pure Google Phone like the Nexus 4 but his great fragility, the weakness of the camera and the max 16gb of storage are three points that still makes me doubtful.
I'm considering the upcoming Galaxy S4 Nexus Edition...
When the official Sony JB update comes, everything changes. We can run custom ROMs without a flaw with the help of 3rd party developers. There has been rumors that Android 4.3 is still going to be JB. Even if we cant upgrade our phones to Android 5. The problem is our ROMs are'nt stable enough.

Personally, the current ICS build is stable. Other than some Wifi drops, I dont see any major flaws in it.

The big problem about ICS is its very laggy, drains alot of battery and not smooth.

Yep, the Galaxy S phones are always a viable alternative, but I am not a big fan of Samsung. Too much plastic, and the user interface is somewhat dull and boring. Yes, the horsepower behind the back panel is immense but I am not a power user, not really. In fact, it turns out that Sony are the brand with the highest number of upper-mid-level devices at the moment (Xperia S, T; SP and ZR upcoming; not to mention all the derivatives like SL, TX, Ion, V, Acro S, etc., etc.) and I am rather leaning towards buying one such device. I am not too interested in the current flagship devices (Xperia Z, HTC One, Galaxy S4) since cheaper phones provide similar daily performance for some 2/3 of the price. Snapdragon S4 is one really capable platform and its wide availability makes it accessible to anyone.
To sum up, I am rather looking for a phone with a good manufacturer's support and expected updates till Android version 4.3, at least. The 16GB non-expandable storage of Nexus 4 is a deal-breaker for me as well. Maybe I will wait another couple of months, until SP and ZR get released and their prices decline to their true market values.
And guys, please stay on topic here. We are discussing Xperia S and its alternatives here, not Sony's customer policy in general. I know, there are many of you who are angry at the Japanese, I am somewhat dissatisfied myself. Anyway, please stop the rant because I believe this is a sensible topic and I do not want to see this thread closed. Thanks!
edit: nvm
I had similar thoughts too, until i realized that the hardware in my Xperia S is just fine for my needs for now. What is it you want to do with a newer chipset? And on the software side, I have my hopes on that things will improve somewhat once/if Sony releases the new kernel-sources.
This question has been as so many times, only you can decide what is best for you.
