LG Nitro battery life? - LG Nitro HD

I've been researching this phone for the past couple days so far. From what I've read, the battery life is above average (12-15 hours on medium usage)
Here's the battery information that was listed for the AT&T Galaxy SII
Taken from Samsung.com on September 2nd
Samsung Galaxy SII AT&T Battery
Standby time: Up to 250 Hrs*
Continuous usage time: Up to 3 Hrs Talk*
Thoughts?

Above average my foot. Refer to "LG Nitro HD" thread in Android General.
Also I have no idea why you mentioned one phone and posted the specifications of another.

I posted the battery life of the Galaxy S2 for a reason.
The LG Nitro specs tell us that the battery life is only 3 hours for talk.
The OLD Galaxy S2 specs told us that the battery life was only 3 hours for talk as well.
But was it true? No.

I used the LG for a week and a half. At the beginning, battery drained 20% per hour. After a week, battery would drain 10% per hour. But this was by no means constant. I can tell you that I would get up sometimes, unplug my phone, leave, and in 5 minutes lose 5%. It was very unpredictable, and not even dependent on usage.

Was this after continuous use or like standby? Also, were you able to get through a typical day without recharging?

Well I have the phone right now so ill test the battery and see how it is. It seems fine so far, screen is amazing with a little banding but nothing terrible like the issue Skyrocket is going through . If it wasn't for this phone's screen it would have been in my trash bag.

All day Wifi on and LTE turned off, I got 13 hours at 15%.
Im rooted on setcpu min 192 max 1.5 ondemand with screen off 192 profile. (Medium usage)
Im going to try to turn on nothing but LTE tomorrow.
Starting to like this phone more and more, def need some custom roms asap.

I go about 14 hours before hitting 10%. That's with LTE, GPS, BT on at all times with low medium use.

Mine just died
18 hour up time
2 hour screen time
LTE all day in ATL (Hit 57/10 just now in Duluth, gA)
I'd say it lasts a full day with moderate use... maybe 12 hours with a heavier day.

Is there anyway to turn LTE off?
I'm in a HSPA+ area & LTE is not quite here yet.
I hear on lots of LTE devices that battery life problems are from when the phone is searching for the network all day and it's suggested to turn it off if not in the area.
However I can't find the setting to turn specifically LTE off and leave HSPA+ on the Nitro.
Sounds like my battery is dying a lot quicker than the rest of yours, and that's after I've rooted, reset to factory defaults, removed bloatware, and using SetCPU, Green Power, and Go Launcher.

I don't think the current stock Rom/kernel has that option. I tried to go into Phone info through the *#*# commands, and there is no option for switching radio bands.

if you "at work" and dont need your push emails, you can just disable data to save some battery.

Can't take credit for this but its pretty much the same setup used to shutoff LTE
Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Menu (Add new APN)
Name: HSPA+ (can name it whatever you want)
APN: phone
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username: leave blank
Password: leave blank
Server: leave blank
Mmsc: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Mms proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
Mms port: 80
Mcc: 310
Mnc: 410
Authentication type: none
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri (no spaces)
Then Menu and Save. This should let you have a new APN that will refuse to connect to LTE when it is not needed and has personally saved me tons of battery. You may have to put the phone in to airplane mode or sometimes reboot to get it to latch on to the new APN.

Not sure if I'm understanding this correctly, but will this just not look for LTE and save you battery even if LTE isn't available near you, or does it just deny LTE when it finds it so you'll only save batter if you have LTE?

if you use old apn: phone
it won't allow you to connect to lte network, so why would phone keep searching for LTE?

I don't think you understand me and I definitely don't understand you.

Ok, so it looks like the only difference between your settings and the preloaded ones are the "phone" instead of "pta" under the APN section.
Thanks a lot for the help, i'll give it a try over the next few days and see if it helps out my battery life.

did a full drain last night, recalibrated this morning, and i'm at 18hrs with 2 hour screen time, and still @ 36%, so definitely better than yesterday.

If any of you are on the grandfathered "unlimited" plan...keep this alternate APN setting in easy reach. It will become really handy when you get the dreaded "5%" SMS from the dark overlords ;-)

Bell LG Optimus LTE Disable LTE?

For those with a Bell Canada LG Optimus LTE, are you guys able to turn off/disable LTE on your phone through a setting or *#*#4636#*#*?
I'm trying to figure out a way to turn off LTE on the AT&T Nitro HD, which has the Network Mode setting blocked/removed.
Create a new APN and use it when you want to "switch off" lte:
Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Menu (Add new APN)
Name: HSPA+ (can name it whatever you want)
APN: phone
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username: leave blank
Password: leave blank
Server: leave blank
Mmsc: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Mms proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
Mms port: 80
Mcc: 310
Mnc: 410
Authentication type: none
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri (no spaces)
Save.
It should save battery.
Please let me know if it works.
The feature that you speak of is not on our phones as it is locked out. I can't change those settings.

It shouldn't be locked out. I thought so at first, but if you hit the menu button while viewing the "ATT PTA" APN it should let you add one. I've done exactly what was suggested and it works... all except picture messaging.

No, I wasn't asking about the APN. I'm aware of that trick.
I wanted to see if we can actually set our phones to WCDMA only or something like that. In most if not all previous Android phones I've owned, you can force the phone to 2G only, 3G preferred, 3G only, and so on using the *#*#4636#*#* menu. But in our case, AT&T/LG deliberately left out this option in the phone.

Oh I see. Man I would LOVE to have that feature.
Um I had a bell one and I remember just going into the settings there was a choice of WCDMA or WCDMA+LTE and I just picked WCDMA and I think it turned LTE off.
I get an FC in com.android.phone when I try to do that, so nope, not working.

Yes, with Bell Canada, Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode -> WCDMA only
If I choose "GSM/WCDMA Auto" it does not stick but reverts to "GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto". But "WCDMA only" stays and everything works.
Now I will wait to see if the battery lasts longer. But as it was it lasts over 2 days of standby/light use (we don't have LTE serviceout here). As soon as I start using the display though the battery goes down quite fast - like in about 3 hours or less of continuous use.

[Q] Getting only Edge (2g) speeds any tips?

Just got the GN (GSM Unlocked) and was mainly getting to know it on WiFi. Recently I popped in a SIM (Tmobile on the 30$/month prepaid 100 min/Unlimited Text &Web). The problem that I'm facing however is that I am stuck with only 2g speeds.
Do I have 3g/4g coverage?
Yes. I somehow got it to work for all of ten minutes while messing around in the *#*#4636*#*# menu but ended up running into a bug where I couldn't switch out of the European Band and so I had to do a Factory Reset.
So now I'm unsure as to how to get those signals back. I am on a modified APN setting for Tmobile:
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: none
Password:blank
Server: blank
MMSC: (ht)tp://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 310
MNC:260
Authentication Type: Not set
APN Type: not set
Any help would be much appreciated. I am running the stock ROM (considering I had to do a factory reset). I have data enabled as well as roaming. I do not have the 2g box checked. Hopefully this provides enough information if not please let me know.

Worked for me automatically.
Problem Solves (no intervention needed)
So hopefully if anyone sees this post they will learn the art of patience like I did. Turns out it just takes a bit of time for Tmobile to recognize that you have actually paid them.
I went to sleep and when I woke up I received a text message from Tmobile saying, "Thanks for the 30 dollars" and I was getting H, and 3G speeds. Issues sometimes resolve themselves I guess. Thanks to everyone who replied.

Yeah if you're registering a new line or SIM, it can take up to 24hours for it to become fully active. Glad your problem fixed itself.

Unable to use AOSP based ROMs. Bad / Slow data

AT&T Note 2 and everything seems fine running roms based on stalk.
Every other ROM either I lose data connection for short periods of time or even when I do have an LTE connection its slow like 3g.
Been like this since I got the phone. Any ideas?
Check your APN's and Network Mode
On this current ROM the Network mode is LTE / GSM / WCDMA
AP is wap.cingular and there are several options.
Currently I'm downloading a game that has to do its own download and even if I change it to the PTA AP it just constantly flashes the reconnecting screen.
I'm starting to wonder if there isn't something wrong with my phone that the normal rom somehow "gets around" or makes less noticeable.
Either way there is SOME difference between the likes of STOCK and CleanROM SE that makes those work fine and data on anything not based on AT&T stock suck.
Well...
I can't argue that...
While I can't prove it....I feel it's related to the lack of having full RIL packages...
We've been pushed updates that include almost 1500 libraries to connect our network world wide...
And I'm sure that AOSP does not include the complete set...
You may be in an area that relies on these updated file's to achieve good service...
Just thinking out loud here...but it makes sense considering you are using the same radio and APN...but are likely missing the RIL package to run them...g

I turned it on after it stopped working. Will try disabling it again.
Nope, less than a minute after turning on wifi, it returns to (Searching). Interestingly enough, I'm able to browse at least the play store when it is searching(And wifi is off). It took a couple minutes for it to reconnect to services. I'm just not able to send or receive texts(Haven't checked calls yet)

Wouldn't really make sense why it is consistent with wifi being on, but working when its off.
This actually happened to me for the first time this entire morning. I didn't realize for hours till I wasn't receiving and couldn't send any texts. I use stock with root.
Now at least I know and will keep an eye out for it if it decides to happen again. However using wifi since than I have not had it happen again nor does it seem to disconnect anytime after either from the cell network.
This has been happening to me since I've had the phone when it was released. I always get dropped wifi when viewing twitch tv or something. I'm about to call T-Mobile to see what I can do because it's just to much of a inconvenience.

No AT&T LTE Speeds (Solved)

So I was poking around the OF7 forums and noticed that I wasn't the only person that despite the many combos of APNs I was using, the best I was getting was H+. Come to find out, your issue is 1 and/or 2 things.. I happened to have both issues.
1. I never had 4G capability until this phone (coming from SG2)
Since I had a standard size SIM, I had to go get an LTE enabled microSIM to fit this phone at the AT&T store.
2. I registered my IMEI with AT&T
DO NOT register your OF7a with AT&T, since it's an unrecognized phone, it will default to pretty much trash and you'll lose any chance of 4G until you do what I had to do.
Solution:
What I did was take my wife's phone (LTE enabled GSIII) and put my microSIM inside. Powered the phone on, let it recognize my SIM.. and then I contacted ATT via Messenger on their site. Told them that I was using my wife's phone and that I didn't have LTE on it, but she did whenever she used it.. Gave them the IMEI number for the GSIII and after he made his updates in his system, he had my power off my phone for 90 secs. After I powered the phone back on, and just like that, I had LTE on the SG3 with my SIM.. thanked the tech and popped my SIM back into the OF7a and viola! All good.. Now that I have confirmed 4G LTE on the OF7a, I've been playing around with different APNs... so far my favorite is as follows:
down: 30-45 up: 16+
Name: Anything you want, I called it OPPO PTA
APN: pta
Proxy: not set
Port: not set

Hope this helps.

well crud I called yesterday and registered my IMEI and I guess my phone as well. Still no LTE. I'll probably stop by ATT store again and see what they can do. While I rarely use the cell data, might as well get the fastest I can right? Thanks for the tips.
