For those with a Bell Canada LG Optimus LTE, are you guys able to turn off/disable LTE on your phone through a setting or *#*#4636#*#*?
I'm trying to figure out a way to turn off LTE on the AT&T Nitro HD, which has the Network Mode setting blocked/removed.
Create a new APN and use it when you want to "switch off" lte:
Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Menu (Add new APN)
Name: HSPA+ (can name it whatever you want)
APN: phone
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username: leave blank
Password: leave blank
Server: leave blank
Mmsc: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Mms proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
Mms port: 80
Mcc: 310
Mnc: 410
Authentication type: none
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri (no spaces)
Save.
It should save battery.
Please let me know if it works.
The feature that you speak of is not on our phones as it is locked out. I can't change those settings.

Thank you, that's what I wanted to know.

It shouldn't be locked out. I thought so at first, but if you hit the menu button while viewing the "ATT PTA" APN it should let you add one. I've done exactly what was suggested and it works... all except picture messaging.

No, I wasn't asking about the APN. I'm aware of that trick.
I wanted to see if we can actually set our phones to WCDMA only or something like that. In most if not all previous Android phones I've owned, you can force the phone to 2G only, 3G preferred, 3G only, and so on using the *#*#4636#*#* menu. But in our case, AT&T/LG deliberately left out this option in the phone.

Oh I see. Man I would LOVE to have that feature.
Um I had a bell one and I remember just going into the settings there was a choice of WCDMA or WCDMA+LTE and I just picked WCDMA and I think it turned LTE off.
I get an FC in com.android.phone when I try to do that, so nope, not working.

Yes, with Bell Canada, Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode -> WCDMA only
If I choose "GSM/WCDMA Auto" it does not stick but reverts to "GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto". But "WCDMA only" stays and everything works.
Now I will wait to see if the battery lasts longer. But as it was it lasts over 2 days of standby/light use (we don't have LTE serviceout here). As soon as I start using the display though the battery goes down quite fast - like in about 3 hours or less of continuous use.

I got a Samsung Galaxy SII T989 new, for free, off of my uncle who gets phones for promotional purposes. It's a T-mobile phone, and I'm on AT&T. I paid for an unlock code and successfully unlocked my phone for use on AT&T. I can text, call, and use WiFi, but can't get the data to work. (I also can't send or receive MMS messages, not sure if it's related. HELP!

couple things have you asked on the AT&T forum and have you done a google search on how to get your Tmobile phone to work on AT&T?
next is have you changed or rather added the new apn? if any of this is an issue for you I would say your best bet is to trade the phone on craigslist for someone with the skyrocket.
since the two phones are interchangeable as far as roms go I would suspect with a little more digging you will find your answer... check here

Thank you!

After flashing my phone it can't connect to the mobile data network. I re-flashed the phone back to stock and it still doesn't work. On wi-fi the phone works fine. The 4g symbol shows up with the upload download arrows flashing but I don't get any signal.
Can someone please help me? I'm really frustrated...
Flash a different modem?
Did you check maybe you lost the imei on the process of flashing
If 4g is displsyed its probably not imei, but check it anyway.
Also turn off wifi calling and see if thst hss any affect.

You'll be amazed at what a battery pull can fix.
I've tried multiple roms with different radios/modems but no luck.
The IMEI is still there. I don't know what the problem is... For example though, every time I try to go to a website, it gets automatically redirected to http://androidapi.t-mobile.com/apppack/mvno.html I doubt that means anything but just putting everything that I know.
I have the same issue and cant figure it out. Ill keep you posted if I figure something out.

Go to the the "acess tmobile" app and go to your plan and click upgrade. Done. Plan stays the same and everything works again.

I can't even go to any websites on my phone without wifi. When I tried to open that app it wouldn't let me because it said that I can't use wi-fi with it.
And I did "check" my APN, I don't really know if there's anything wrong with it. I'm actually doing this for a friend and I have a Sprint SG3 that I rooted with absolutely no problems. This t-mobile phone though is really trying my patience.
try it again. turn wifi off and run the app. It should take you to your account.
Just go return it then get another phone.
The phone will literally not connect to ANYTHING data related unless on a wifi network. Unfortunately this t-mobile app will not work over wifi so I'm still stuck on what I can do.

I've made some progress. My coworker has a t-mobile gs3 so I switched out the sim cards and it works. So I guess it's something with the sim card...
The past couple days, my phone keeps losing cell service within a minute or two of connecting to wifi. Sometimes it will connect back up for a few minutes if I search for an available network, but it will always disconnect again. I have tried restarting as well as running this app.
I have one APN

I turned it on after it stopped working. Will try disabling it again.
Nope, less than a minute after turning on wifi, it returns to (Searching). Interestingly enough, I'm able to browse at least the play store when it is searching(And wifi is off). It took a couple minutes for it to reconnect to services. I'm just not able to send or receive texts(Haven't checked calls yet)

Wouldn't really make sense why it is consistent with wifi being on, but working when its off.
This actually happened to me for the first time this entire morning. I didn't realize for hours till I wasn't receiving and couldn't send any texts. I use stock with root.
Now at least I know and will keep an eye out for it if it decides to happen again. However using wifi since than I have not had it happen again nor does it seem to disconnect anytime after either from the cell network.
This has been happening to me since I've had the phone when it was released. I always get dropped wifi when viewing twitch tv or something. I'm about to call T-Mobile to see what I can do because it's just to much of a inconvenience.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem or can help with a solution. I just got my Oppo 7 (love this thing) but it seems the network doesn't work properly. The network seems to be picked up just fine, full bars, under network settings it automatically acquires the APN settings and everything, but I can't do anything over the air without WiFi. As soon as the WiFi is gone, I can't browse the internet, send or receive text messages, etc. What do?
Will this help? Won't be LTE, but H+ (my phone doesn't have LTE)

That's odd. There's one thing wrong with this device on stock - its APN database for AT&T is 3-4 years out of date. It was still using the wap.cingular APN when I turned mine on.
You need to manually put in the AT&T LTE APN (pta). ALSO if you've never owned an LTE device before you'll need to talk to AT&T to have your account updated. (Using the pta APN with a Nexus 5 resulted in no data for me too until I had my plan/account updated. You can do this without an actual contract change - for example I'm still grandfathered in to "unlimited data"). In general I would recommend doing this in-person at an AT&T-owned store, not at the phone and not at a franchisee (like most small mall kiosks).
Thanks for the reply everyone, I entered in the new ATT HSPA+ APN and it works like a charm now.

Just putting in the pta APN with no other info was enough for me.
(MMS is probably borked for me until I fill in the right settings for it but I use MMS maybe once every 3 years at most.)

I went to the ATT store, but they weren't any help. They confirmed that the SIM they gave me was lte compatible, but I assumed that's the same thing as having an LTE data package. I'll give them a call tonight and let you all know. (btw, just re-applied your settings and still no luck)
edit: called.. and they claim that all accounts have lte compatibility now and of course she had never heard of the OF7a
The settings entropy posted were the exact settings my N5 had which I copied over and worked fine. One thing to be aware of is that mine says 4G on LTE and then either H or H+ for those, not sure if this applies only to my service area or what and another might show differently. At any rate if you're getting 4G showing you might wanna run speedtest and see if you are getting LTE.

AT&T's SIMs have been LTE compatible for years, even before AT&T had an LTE network. I need to check to be sure, but I'm fairly certain my SIM is still the original "cut down SIM" that I've had since 2011 at least.
It's your account that needs to be LTE-enabled.
Don't call. Phone support is awful. Go to a corporate-owned AT&T physical store. That's where the competent staff are.
(In my case, I originally did the LTE upgrade on a Nexus 5 - if you put a SIM into a Nexus 5 that doesn't have LTE on the account, you'll get a text message saying to call AT&T.)
